Review The Cow - Wanaka

Laura Alice
Delicious food! I could easily see why the garlic bread is famous as it comes as a whole loaf. There was plenty of garlic on top too, so don’t be discouraged by the other reviews on here. The side salad was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten - the house dressing was divine. As for the pasta, I wish the menu said there would be cheese on top because I would have ordered it without, but I guess I should have asked? Overall, the atmosphere was lovely. A real vintage tavern vibe and the food was sooo good.

Not as good as it once was. The garlic loaf was huge but lacked garlic. The pizzas were extremely disappointing. Lacked cheese and way too much of the topping was onion. The famous bolognese was embarrassingly bad as was their other very confused pasta option. The staff throwing rubbish into the fire did not help the smoke. This was one our favourites in town. So sad.

Amazing atmosphere, roaring fire. Wait staff were quick and efficient. Bolognaise was delicious as was the tomato soup. Great night. Kids loved there pizzas as well

We decided to ignore the negative reviews as a local had recommended to us. The bread part of the garlic bread was amazing but we would have liked more garlic. Our pizza was decent - we chose a plain one so there isn't much you can do with that but the crust was good and it was well balanced. Decent food for the price and superb atmosphere

Fabulous home style cooking at its best! Character filled gorgeous little restaurant, so cozy with an old fire place and rustic tables. Super friendly staff. Generous portions. Get there early!! It’s so popular, recommend at 5pm. We ordered the home baked garlic bread, pasta and Soup of the day. All delicious.

Pizza was lovely, ordered Her Majesty pizza with pineapple to take-away, it's full of flavour and we would order this again.

Not bad, have to try the pizza. Store attendants were generally nice. Didn’t enjoy the soup of the day as it was really thin and just full of curry powder. Crowd got heavier after 6pm and seating area is quite limited, so go earlier!

Came in at 9:20 when they closed at 9:30 and they took care of me with loads of kindness and incredible atmosphere and pizza! They even have real candles burning, which is rare nowadays. Carol and Billy took care of me!!

Do not even hesitate. This is the absolute best, incredible, atmospheric, gorgeous place in the entire south island.... I kid you not. Thomas recommended the famous garlic bread. Was he right? Yes. Yes he was right!!!! Everything about this awesome place is fantastic. I know. I rave... but seriously people, this is extremely great. Delicious. Great pizza. Great atmosphere ..... and did I mention that garlic bread. Do not hesitate. Do not pass go. Go directly to The Cow.... don't let the substandard name fool you... this is an awesome place 😁 ps... the hottie in the photo is single 😁❤

Large Veggie pizza, bottle of wine - d-lish! Great atmosphere, cozy, wood burning fireplace. Great service and the pizza was remarkably good. Nice wine list too, something for everyone!

Got a half portion of seafood pasta with a pizza to share. Flavors were good and we felt full afterwards. Everything was freshly prepared.

Great location in a somewhat hidden lane way. Good menu offering with great tasting pizzas. Candle lit tables and stone walls are a fantastic atmosphere.

A+. Excellent pizza (got the pepperoni), and everyone there was super friendly, helpful, and all around lovely people. Best place we’ve eaten in Wanaka so far!

Great good, authentic flavours. No kid's menu though. Need to make sure kids enjoy pasta and pizza before you check-in this restaurant

Great spot, atmosphere is epic, dark and cozy stable with huge fireplace (but I won’t expect fire on during the summer lol) Great quality carb load place (Runners, riders, hikers take a note) Good balanced food, had to taste few different pastas (liver, seafood and mushroom) and enjoyed pepperoni pizza. Pizza was great but just add few drops of Kaitaia and get a glass of Pinot Noir to turn that to banquet! Really liked the use of liver in pasta, I would just add a splash of brandy to sauce but that’s just my palette.

Have been coming here for years, nice place, nice food but gotta say stoking the fire as hot as the sun made us want to leave prematurely...otherwise all good.
