Review White House Wanaka - Wanaka

Unfortunately there's no 6 stars which I would've gladly given to this amazing restaurant. We called it the weirdest restaurant in Wanaka from the first look. But it appeared to be a real hidden gem! First of all, the ambience is just lovely in a peculiar way which I can't really find words to explain. Second of all, the food is just outstandingly delicious!!! On my humble opinion, it's the best restaurant in Wanaka. And one of the best I've been to. One of a kind which doesn't require any advertisement. Btw, service is an inadvertently good too.

Wanaka won’t be the same without this place! If you get a chance before they close - go! The food is amazing no matter what you order.

Really good food - everything we ate was delicious. The pesto was amazing and it was clear each item served was fresh. The menu is a bit limited which is the only downside. There are only a few mains, including a steak and several dishes of egg plant. That said, the food was all delicious. One of the best meals we had on the South Island!

Fantastic, saw their post on Instagram with incredible looking steaks and heard it was closing so had to go check it out. Was not disappointed. My partner has pretty complex dietary requirements and the waitress was very accommodating and helpful. My only regret is not going to Whitehouse sooner. Also the negative reviews I read about it made me WANT to go. Thank you for a delicious meal

Probably the best food in Wanaka. Have been twice now and the dishes are amazing. Very European atmosphere with regularly updated chalk board menus. Always a selection of bruschetta to start and always taste great. Mains are inspired by Italy with a few twists and on both occasions the whole party has loved everything. The steak options are exceptional. Will be going whenever we have an excuse but always book! It's a small restaurant.

Seeing such praise of The White House from prior reviews, my wife and I got in early and enjoyed the best meal of our NZ trip. The slow cooked lamb special of the night was one of my top meals in the last year+. My wife enjoyed a fantastic orecchiette pasta main, which I was allowed to sample. Service was extremely personal we felt like the only ones at the restaurant. Perfect ending to a fantastic day!

The White House is by far our favourite restaurant in Wanaka. It's cosy, quirky and full of old charm. The dishes are brilliant. They cleverly combine good quality, simple ingredients to make meals that are packed with flavour. If you haven't been there, you're missing out.

Can't speak highly enough of this place. Rustic charm at its finest. Really great for kids and adults alike. Food was fantastic, small but varied menu, great wine list, good range of beers and excellent whiskey list. Open fire and cozy environment. Just what you want in the snow!

Best meal I've ever tasted in New Zealand (I moved here 6 months ago). The general ambiance of the place is really nice, I could happily spend many a long evening here, and the prices are very reasonable. Most importantly is the food though, which is took my breath away. Highly recommended!

Great food and amazing ambiance. This small eclectic restaurant has an excellent local wine, beer and spirits list. The Mediterranean food tasty and interesting in addition to being expertly prepared and plated

The food was great, service was also good. A strange comment for me to make; it was pretty cold. They had the fire running but could do with some additional heating. The ambient temperature outside was 0. Otherwise very happy.

Lovely service and yummy food. We all ended up having the lamb rump and will try to recreate at home. Low key and relaxed atmosphere...went 20 years ago...and absolutely no changes.

Absolutely wonderful - the food, the building, the atmosphere, the wine and the staff have made this my favourite place in New Zealand. Great selection of vegetarian options too. Definitely recommend.

Went here for dinner, loved everything. Amazing food that you wouldn’t usually see on a menu, delish wine and the IPA on tap is primo. The service was perfect, friendly but not pushy. It’s a little pricy but it’s beautiful food worth paying for! I can’t wait to try there desert

We booked a late dinner at the White House on a Friday night. It's very cosy and intimate but there's not a lot of room, we came here in a group of 6 and were crowded around one small round table - could have split the group up but didn't want to do that. Staff were polite and attentive. Food was good overall. The steaks were delicious and cooked perfectly. The bruschetta's were nice but the chutney on the tomato and haloumi one was very overwhelming - I really just wanted something fresh and simple, but nothing on the menu really gave that option. The menus are only written on chalkboards in various locations around the room which I thought was pretty cool, gives it that authentic touch and I'm guessing the menu changes all the time. They have a cute outdoor area which would be nice during the day.

On a good day, a great place. The owner can be kind of ascerbic, but persevere with a conversation worth having and you'll be drinking the best wine with him in no time at all.

We save this a an 'occasion' restaurant. Great venue, really cool.
