Review Shinaburo Korean Eating House - Wanaka

Karmen long
Was unsure about this place initially and was worried that it is another tourist trap, but we are looking for some hot soup noodles on a cold day hence giving it a try and we were surprised by the authenticity and hospitality of the food. It is a very small Korean restaurant that is homey, a little tight in space in the corner we were seating. They have vegetarian options for the soups and they are all very good. The side dishes were small in portion but they tasted good ! The lady owner was very friendly and welcoming. There is no minimum spending in the restaurant (unlike the other Korean restaurant in Wanaka). Highly recommended for anyone looking for some authentic Korean/Asian cuisine !

Omg. The best best Korean we have ever had! We asked the owner if she could open a place in Sydney for us. Everything was delicious and great value for money. We can't wait to come back one day.

Very heartwarming homecooked style Korean food. We love what we ordered and really good for the price we pay. The owner and staff were very friendly despite the busy floor and we really had a great time.

My wife and I had been looking for somewhere to dine on our wedding anniversary, and Shinaburo came highly recommended, and quite rightly too! We came early and there was plenty of seating available, but the restaurant started to fill out quickly. We first ordered our drinks, and they were served to us quickly. We had a korean peach schnapps - it was yummy and left a nice glow! We ordered a couple of Entrees - Yum Yum Dak (chicken nibbles). Goon Mandu (pork dumplings) and some pickled vegetables. All very nice and well presented. I then ordered the Champong, and my goodness, what an experience! A delicious broth with delectable pieces of pork and fresh seafood, all sitting atop thick noodles. I highly recommend this dish if you can handle a little heat. My wife ordered a seafood platter, and it looked and smelled good. Good food, good experience. Recommended.

Great little Korean restaurant in Wanaka! My partner and I and our friend came here and decided to share food amongst us to enjoy it all. We got Beef Bulgogi, Don Kasu, Dak Galbi, Yum Yum Dak, Saewoo Jogae and of course Kimchi - it was all delicious and freshly made. Monica was phenomenal and always checked up us, making sure everything was good. She had fantastic customer service and we had good yarns with her whilst we had Soju shots (not including her), she is definitely a big part of why this dining experience was fantastic. She even allowed us to stay a little past closing time of 9:30pm so we could finish our soju. Highly recommend!

Tasty tteokbokki and tofu dish. Delicious fried chicken. Friendly service. Only negative was the lack of variety of side dishes. Overall a great homely dinner experience. Recommend the Korean Dessert Coffee!

Great service, the lady here is super friendly and talkative. Amazing food; it's the best Korean food I've eaten so far. Loved the chicken soup, and the fried rice was nice as well.

Lively atmosphere with BYO parties, food was authentic Korean with flavourful heat (rather than just being spicy) Staff were very friendly, and they had Korean beers stocked in the fridge!

We walked in at 6:15pm on Tuesday night and found that lots of tables were available. But people started to turn up after 6:30pm and the restaurant was full then. Only 2 staffs looking after the customers and busy walking in and out of the kitchen. Another two staff were cooking in the kitchen. It took some time to take your order and wait for the food. The chicken soup is yummy.

I really enjoyed the food! It’s not often you can find somewhere that does a satisfying vegetarian option, so this place was a very exciting find. We ate there twice in a row and I would’ve gone again if they weren’t closed for new years. I’m only writing this now because it’s been 3 months and I can’t stop craving their Curry Noodles. It might not be as authentic as some people would like, but it was GOOD FOOD. Would love to go back ❤️

A very busy and small restaurant, please call in to reserve or come in early for waiting time. The food was amazing. A korean restaurant run by koreans. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We ordered kimchi pancake (not too bad) the crust could be crispier, bibimbap with shrimp ,pork and tofu, also ordered Champong/Jjampong with tonkotsu pork soup base, with pork as the topping. The food was so flavourful that I was so surprised 😲! Highly recommend if you are craving for some asian food in Wanaka, instead of going for the usual Thai or Chinese.

Warm greetings from the staffs, quite full restaurant... only open in the evening.

Great food, service and atmosphere. I'd recommend sharing a main and two or three sides between two people.

Tasty and authentic Korean spot in Wanaka! The staff were awesome and recommended the samgyetang (chicken soup) and stir fried pork which were both delicious. We also really enjoyed the bibimbap and jjamppong. The food and service warmed us all up on a cold Autumn’s night :)

Such delicious food and amazing service here! Very good value compared to a lot of the dining around here with all starters including fried chicken less then $10. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Yummy. Owner came out to check with her guest if food and service are alright. Tasty food, right atmosphere...

Love dining here when we visit Wanaka. Food is tasty and you don’t have to wait too long. Recommend making a booking, as there is often big groups dining here.

Worst Korean ever. Overrated, overpriced and understaffed
Very poor service for Japanese owners, would recommend eating here to anyone, we had to constantly hound the wait staff and owner for basic things like glasses (the correct number) entrées and drinks
The meal took so long I lost my appetite, would have been a better night without stopping here
