Review Wharf Street Bistro - Warkworth

Soo Woo
Came to Warkworth from West Auckland just to have lunch at Bam Boo and WOW!! what a great move! First of all, loving the decor! Service was top knotch! Our server knew about each dish we asked about! Drinks arrived fast, and food followed not too far behind. We started with duck pancakes...delicious! Then came the pork belly, prawns & squid. Seriously, it all was full of flavour combo's that were banging!! If I had to choose, prawns were my favourite! We were second table to arrive at 12pm, we got a window seat looking out to the board walk & river. There is a carpark right outside. I highly recommend Bam Boo! Thank you!😊

Taste sensation; lovely range of delicious dishes; interesting decor that reflects the menu; peaceful water and bush views; awesome, attentive and friendly staff. Portions and wine servings were generous. Definitely our new favourite restaurant! Would recommend to those who enjoy authentic flavours and as in some dishes, a bit of heat. Desserts, which weren't your stock standard, were thoughtful and delicious too.

Bam Boo is such a neat little place. This is my first time here and it was a vibe. The food was great, the ambience is great. I love the decorations and attention to detail. I'd definitely come back here for dinner and a few drinks.

Bam Boo Canteen is a must-visit spot for a celebration of Asian cuisine! The inviting ambiance, friendly staff, and flavorful Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken) left me impressed. Generous portions and a delightful menu make it a hidden culinary gem. Highly recommended

A great place to try after a day at the beach. The service was amazing, super friendly staff that really looked after us. The meals were large and delicious. For two of us, we had two large and one small plate. The kids had the kids meals and devoured it. I couldn't take some photos of the food as everyone had their hands in it cleaning it out 😂

Ordered everything vegetarian and the food hit the spot. The vegetarian roll was insanely good and was so hard to top but the noodles and the wasabi dessert definitely did. Service was 💯. Charlene was our host and she made sure we had the best time! Complimentary mochis were cherry on top! Thanks team!

Love the new decor and ambiance each area creates. We chose 4 small plates between 2 of us which may not have allowed us to apprieciate their full menu. I think we may need to go back to try some large plates. The smaller sharing plates were good I would recommend the wok tossed greens they were delish. A plate of those to yourself would be a great side. The Green Rice Prawns are also a treat. To keep them crispy we didn't use the dipping sauce too much. All in all this is a great new choice for eating out in Warkworth and great service.

Cozy and beautiful environment, and very friendly staff with great customer service. Food was delicious. We tried Mongolian Shaking Beef (which tastes like a homemade dish in China. Like it!), Korean Fried Chicken (large portion and delicious, but felt a bit too sweet afterwards), and Kamikaze Fries (yum! It includes Kimchi, mayo, dashi and seaweed). Free carpark outside.

This place is a gem. Lovely old building great staff and service and most importantly the food is fantastic. I forgot to take a photo of my starter bit it was nice. The main meals were lovely and I finished with a stout over ice cream. Who would have thought. Jamie Robert's invention he tells me.

Would recommend this place to everyone and look forward to going again soon.

What an amazing hidden gem in Warkworth. This is a place you must eat, and eat a lot! There are so many delicious meals here and don’t forget about the stunning and tasty cocktails! The squid was cooked to perfection and the slow cooked lamb melted in you mouth. Meals were full of flavour and and served in a beautiful way. The espresso martini is now my new favourite drink.Try and save some room for dessert, as you do not wanna miss out on one! This is a beautiful and stylish restaurant located by the river. Atmosphere is cozy and there is a good vibe in the air. Staff is extremely friendly and very tentative. Only regret I have is not going here sooner but I cannot not wait to come back!

Thursday night went out to dinner at Wharf Street Bistro friendly staff, quaint and cosy interior, unfortunately the food was a let down, not sure if chef having bad night ? I had pork belly meal, usually a winner when going out for dinner, pear sitting on top was hard, potato mash unseasoned, jus taste overpowering and watery , crackle was hard and tasteless, very disappointing meal, all meals purchased at my table were average, and ended up purchasing Chinese on way home as others eating at my table meals were hardly touched.

We staggered up there after being on our feet all day at the Kowhai Festival and it was so lovely to be greeted like old friends. We sat outside and had Pita bread and hummus which was very tasty, we both had a cocktail both of which were spot on. We had the pork belly as a main and all I can say is "WOW" with a Riesling to go with it, it was beautiful. This is a great place to go to, we would highly recommend it to anyone who wants great service and amazing food.

I had waffle chips and the broccoli/beetroot salad last time I visited the bistro. Dragged my friend back this time for him to try the waffle chips. He had the pork belly and I had the steak. Best meal we had in a while. Thanks and we will be back to try some more awesome options on your menu. Great food, good vibes and very friendly service!

A group of 6 of us had a great meal last night, for a 60th birthday party. We all thought the food was lovely. I had the souffle, which was really light and cheesy, and the pork, which was melt in the mouth and the pear worked really well with it. Great decor and the service was amazing - it's refreshing to have front of house staff that are so welcoming, charming and knowledgeable. Well done guys, we will be back :-)

The team at Wharf Street Bistro were amazing, and the food was fantastic! Great flavor combos and just the right portion sizes. It was also great to see some real food options for our 7 yr old daughter. No wonder the locals are raving about this place. Thank-you we will be back.

Love this place. The setting is intimate and provides a place to truely relax, eat, and chat. The food is delicious (can’t recommend the pork belly enough) & the staff are attentive and friendly 👌🏼

We had a lovely time at the wharf street Bistro. I had the steak which was a generous size but maybe slightly closer to Medium then Medium rear. We had the best table in the house right in front of the open window looking out at the river. My wife had the pulled lamb which was delicious. We had my elderly Father in law with us (who paid for the meals, thank you Pierre) and he had no trouble hearing us, which has been a problem in louder restaurants. The staff were lovely and if anything tried too hard to be helpful. I will definitely go back. To make it perfect, check that the tide is in.

Been here many times and meals been great. Cocktails are a real hit & miss though. Went back last week and we didn't enjoy the meals. The prawn & chorizo dish should be removed from the menu it was so bad

Been there for a friend's birthday. Great atmosphere, staff was welcoming and caring. I ordered the steak and it was amazing. My friends loved the pulled lamb and the fish dish as well. Good choice of local beers and wine. Money wise, it was well worth it considering the quality of the dishes presented. Will definitely come back.

I love this place, the food is delicious and the ambience is always a warm and dimly lit romantic feel and the decor of this place is right up my alley. However it's unfortunate how many pretentious people visit it, I mean come on...its Warkworth not the viaduct? So beware of that little town feel disappearing instantly on entry, I am not bothered by this but other guests I have dined with were a little bit taken back. One thing I do dislike is sitting so close to the other table if you're dining with two people, I had to sit across from an awkward tinder date last night and could hear every single conversation they had, other than cringing through my first drink (not the drinks fault of course) when the three cheese soufflé arrived which takes 15 minutes but is well worth the wait I could focus on something else and just talked louder so my partner could hear what I was saying, then we ordered a char grilled hollumi and broccoli salad I ordered a steak meal which were both beautifully done my steak was medium rare to the t! With an amazing mushroom sauce on top. For dessert we got the baked NYC cheesecake which had maple blueberries on top which was a perfect end to a very lovely meal. Staff are very accommodating and pleasant I will be back for sure.

Came here for an anniversary dinner.

Perfect little secluded spot with a nice outlook over river with some old boats. The interior has a cosy atmosphere, with subtle throwbacks to the 70's and 80's. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

We had the Beef Tacos, Beef Empanadas and the Cheese Soufflé, followed by the Lamb and the Pork Belly. Everything was delicious, full of flavour, and was devoured rather quickly! The only thing I could fault was that the pork belly wasn't as tender as a few other places I've been too. However, the Ju with this dish was extremely delicious. I was trying to mop up as much of it as I could.

Will be coming here again soon to try more dishes off the menu. An absolute must if you're in Warkworth and want to treat yourself to something special.

Popped in here on our way home from Mangawhai. We were greeted with big friendly smiles. Restaurant has a lovely warm vibe I always love dining with candle light. Food was equally delightful. We had beef tacos, delicious lamb salad and a well priced tasty Ozzy Shiraz. Great portions, super tasty food. Service was perfect. Lots of GF options. Would definitely return next time I'm passing through. Highly recommended.

Visited on a busy Friday evening in early March 2016 with friends. The restaurant is kitted out well decor wise and upon arriving we were seated by a very friendly waitress/maitreD at a table over looking the river.
The specials were explained and drinks promptly bought to us, including a little corn chip/salsa starter which was a really nice touch.
Entrees arrived and we highly recommend the squid! (Finally a chef who isn't scared to use chilli!) Mains arrived in good time, they were beautifully presented and of the choices we made, all were great! Beef soft taco/wraps, steak, and two pork bellies. The only comment would be the pork belly meals needed more sauce, or a sauce, the pear wasn't poached that well, and was quite difficult to cut into - flavours were great though. The portions were great too... good value for money, no one left hungry and there wasn't leftovers!
It was very busy and we could have done with a bit quicker service, drinks topped up, etc, but considering the pure amount of work people were doing to hold it all together, overall... we left wondering when was the next earliest opportunity to go back!! Thanks "Wharf Street Bistro"... we'll be back!

Discovered this place by chance. Very impressed by the location, ambience, staff and last but not least the food!!! this place has a great ambience and is set in an idyllic location overlooking the boardwalk and jetty.
The staff were all very professional and friendly. We treated like we were special and appreciated. Both my wife and I had meals that were divine. Yum Yum !!! Thanks to the Chef and kitchen staff. Having been in the industry we know how hard it is to deliver quality food on a healthy serving of customer service. Thank you for making our unexpected stop into a very delightful and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon/evening. We will be back for a romantic dinner for 2 very soon.
Jess and Antionette ( 2 happy customers from the Bay of Islands)
