Review Cafe Sandspit - Warkworth

What a great place to have lunch. We've had fish and chips (big serve) "make good Chip's here" (Mum) and the fish excellent too, BLT, and mushroom stack with eggs - all delicious. Nice ginger desert. View fantastic and the bay an ever-changing feast for the eyes. Good service and just downright good!

Have enjoyed many flat white coffees here. Also poached eggs on toast. Great views over the bay. The restaurant extends out over the bay.

The best lunch I have had in all my 16 yrs living in Auckland. They still do scrambled eggs. The simple meals are the hardest to cook well. I can appreciate his skills. I could drive a hour from Auckland just to have lunch here again.

Great little café. Becoming a regular breakfast spot on the weekends.

Beautiful outlook. Friendly and efficient service. 3 happy patrons. We'll be back.

Fabulous cafe! Nestled into one of the most beautiful parts of NZ, the coffee is delicious and strong and the staff are awesome and friendly. I told them I needed to buy my coffee that morning as I usually use my stovetop, brought my stovetop camping but not my coffee....., they gave me a bag of ground coffee to take away for FREE!

This is absolutely a very lovely spot for a cafe. The cafe could be described as old school - the kind of places I remember from my childhood. Not fancy but uncomplicated. Plain but simple. I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the coffee & food was. I will be back.

Lovely friendly cafe on the water, one of the best eggs Benedict we've ever eaten. All element's on plate just right and plenty of yummy hollandaise sauce. Loaded wedges were very good too

We had a lovely lunch here last week, staff were friendly great view and the food and coffee were very nice. My bacon was so nice and my friend had the sweetcorn fritters she said they were the best she had had in along time. Well done guys.

Best cappuccino I've had in Auckland. Love this place, breakfast and a "show". *Not technically a show, but the guy working there is like a stand up comedian.

Jolly nice outlook over the water, excellent coffee and the seafood chowder was delightful, staff were brilliant and attentive. Well worth the trip out. Thank you.

Just had lunch there with my wife and my niece, who is gluten-intolerant. Great range of options for all including gluten and dairy free. All of our meals were nicely presented, tasty and filling. The spectacular view is the icing on the cake. Highly recommended!

The new management is great, friendly, helpful. Wonderful view, peaceful surroundings, good food and lots to watch as ferries and watercraft come into the nearby wharf. My meal was generous and handsomely presented. Tasty to. I'll be back. So glad the ownership has changed as the location is a great one for me. I don't drink coffee but my friends all were impressed with theirs.

I don't thinks words can even describe the terrible service we got from Sandspit Café. The owner is the rudest person I ever came across in my life. Long story sort, because we as his customers went to ask them after about 35 min if they remember our order of two toasted sandwiches ( there was just a few minutes left before the had to board the ferry) he made a huge scene at our table and insulted me in front of other costumers.I really don't mind waiting my turn sir but to wait that long for a simple toasted sandwich and the way you treated me was really uncalled for, that is no way to treat your costumers.Definitely will not recommend this place.I will definitely not recommend anyone to go to this café.

Lovely lunch today at the SSC, a first time for me. Fabulous views, are a highlight. Great service, and two great meals. My partner had the burger, & I had the bacon & egg pie with salad, and when I say salad I mean salad, no measly limp lettuce with a bit of tomato here. Would recommend.

Good food and a stunning view. Good for either a snack or a meal, and the coffee was good and hot. However the man serving was rather rude without any reason which was a shame..

Great views of the Sandspit inlet and a captured market of punters catching the ferry. Cold weak coffee severed in what feels like a 1970's tea rooms. The service is average and lack luster. Take a thermos.

We were so looking forward to having dinner at this cafe in February while on holiday in the area, so phoned before midday as stated on the website to make the booking for 3 people. The young man who answered the phone was very unhelpful, and I was unable to make a booking as he did not have any other bookings for that night??? He needed time to organise food and staff as they had a life too apparently. So I couldn't even book for the following evening as he still had no other bookings! This is just unbelievable! This cafe certainly knows how to chase away customers, as there are plenty of other places in the area and much nicer as we found out. Will not be bothering to go to this establishment in the future.

Visited Sandspit Cafe on the weekend with my partner. Really pleasant view out over the water. The service lacked somewhat, with the waiter seeming rushed and also forgetting our drinks order (drink never arrived), despite the cafe being quiet that morning. What the service lacked, the food made up for and our brunches were served to us in a "ok" time-frame, by another waiter with personality - yay, and the food was good, not flash or different, standard brunch fare, and we were happy with our meals. I mentioned the lack of drink arriving, and our new drinks order arrived in 2 seconds flat, so clearly the team was keen to make up for the wee mistaken order. Overall, not sure we will go back for brunch, as we've ticked that box; but I have to say the dinner menu I read over interested me greatly and the cafe has many local wines on board, so I am keen to try it out one evening and will make a point of doing so this Summer.

On Monday 18 Feb 2013 a friend and I took an overseas guest to SSC. We arrived at 11.15am and tried to order from the breakfast menu which was available until 11.30. Unfortunately it took them until 11.35 to come and take our order at which time we were advised that we were too late for breakfast. We then tried to order quiche off the lunch menu - only to be told that the "chef" hadn't yet prepared any. We tried to look at offerings in the chilled cabinet - but there was so much condensation it was like looking through an opaque shower curtain and we couldn't see anything. We were then accosted at our table by a scruffy-looking individual with uncombed hair and grubby shorts. This chap (?owner) saw our disappointment in not being able to order from the breakfast menu. Rather than apologise for the lack of prompt and friendly service, he proceeded to deliver a lengthy, condescending lecture as to why we couldn't have breakfast (because "chef" had put away the pan in which he cooks the eggs! -and, presumably, had yet to find the tins in which he cooks the quiche). How odd given that an All Day Breakfast is offered. In desperation we ordered toasted sandwiches - they were quite disgusting and took 35 minutes to arrive. Service was by way of a young chap who was obviously last in the queue when smiles were given out. The cafe was dirty in places, the ?owner appallingly rude, the service non-existent, the decor was lacklustre and, worst of all, you apparently can't have anything off the menu unless you happen to strike it lucky and hope that the "chef" has the correct pan/dish to hand. Trying too hard to be something other than a seaside café. Overpriced and extremely underwhelming - which is such a shame because one would be hard pushed to find a more beautiful location.

Had dinner here Wednesday evening - great steak and wonderful snapper with the best couscous ever!

The view is special and the service was friendly and efficient. The maitre'd made sure that the meal time from order to delivery gave the chef the best chance to prepare lovely meals that - no rushed preparation here with wonderful results.

Thanks!!

Haven't been up to Sandspit for awhile, but the change in the Cafe is excellent. Love the New Menu and the changes they have made inside and out. Amazing quality meals at great prices, would highly recommend to anyone. Especially sitting out in the Beer Garden, can't beat that view!

This restaurant has recently changed hands. The new owner is a chef and the food is wonderful. My wife and I each had different meals.. They were well presented, delightfully cooked and reasonably priced. The service was great and the views marvellous. We can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
