Review Siem Reap Restaurant - Wellington

Sang Hyun Kim
The food was quite alright, the noodles were ok. Although the beef curry is worth trying. A little pricey for the portions, but still a decent experience. It offered a nice atmosphere, but its probably more ideal for a more intimate or small group setting. (Rating: 7/10)

Warm ambience, welcoming and friendly staff, incredible dishes at reasonable prices, authentically Cambodian, couldn’t ask for more! Would recommend to anyone.

Someone recommended to me this restaurant few times. Finally. I visited two times. Love the food here absolutely. I feel very comfortable to have dinner in here. The food is great. I also like the environment here. Very upscale Asian style.

Amazing restaurant! We had the shrimp mango salad and it was oh so good! Also our main dish was absolutely perfect! The staff was super friendly and helpful! Would highly recommend! Great value!

Have to say this may be the first time to visit Khmer food and I have to say "very impressive". Food are very delicious, staff are very friendly and take time to explain what to order and how many dishes are good for 2 people if we like to share food. The scallops dish are super delicious, can't tell you why, perhaps you need to try...😃

Delicious food. I definitely enjoyed our meal. The amok was flavorful and the ban chow was really good too.

So beautiful and tasty I had the beef Saraman, Coconut Mojitto and Prawn Dumplings and everything was faultless. Can’t wait to go again.

Most amazing restaurant in all of Wellington. 10/10 must eat. This will be my regular.
Steve Hawkins
Impeccable service. Food is very fresh and tasty. Main course portion size was surprisingly large. But overall a really good experience. Had a lot of Asian food over the years but somehow this was fresh and different.

Would not recommend. On trying to use a voucher we were told to prove we were eligible to use it, the women proceed to read through the terms and conditions in front of us to prove we weren't eligible. We were made to feel like idiots. The only reason we weren't eligible was because we simply didn't sit down. To make matters worse I was over charged for my meal, after they claimed takeaway meals were 'discounted anyway'. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone overpriced and terrible service

Lovely meal and great service

Really like the Amok! Taste great. But I think could be abit more spicy for hot. Loved the Babong dish aswel :)
This is one amazing restaurant. It is important to make a booking as it is a very busy restaurant and you cannot get a table by just walking in. The service is amazing and very quick. The food is delicious. Also the price is reasonable as for two people we had four drinks, an entree, two mains, and a bowl of rice and it cost $114. We will be back.

Although I eat asian food heavily for more than 20 years and travelled most asian countries it was my first time for cambodia food. Some dishes were similar to thai but a lot of new dishes for me. We had the lamb rack and the pork belly. Both very nice. I‘m very pleased to went to this place for my first time as it definitely made me interested in more.

very nice food, i love the bbq pork and the mi goreng seafood. we were served by a lovely waitress who made us feel welcome and the food there was huge, one could have probably fed the two of us
Tina
Amazing service and food. The food portions are a very good size and they also have healthy food options. I have been there many times and definitely recommend it.
10/10 for food, service and price. Been here multiple times and I have never been disappointed. Highly recommend this place for any occasion.

fabulous food with great service. we were in a group of 8, 1 of our Meal's were missed they were really good about it brought a cocktail and had the meal ready within 5 minutes

We were a group of six and it was on the recommendation of one of our group we dined here.

The menu is quite long, so to save time we asked our waitress for recommendations, she was very knowledgeable so we went with her choices. She was spot on with her selection for us. The serving sizes are generous so there was plenty to go round (our one vegetarian ordered her own meal which looked very tasty as well). The food, fresh and flavorsome, and to cater for those who like their food a bit hotter there was extra chilies on the side.

Definitely on our list to revisit on our next trip to Wellington

Nice restaurant, not spectacular, but not a disappointment. Thought the spring rolls were excellent. Mains were good, but nothing special. Possibly didn't order the right things to get the full value from the restaurant. Certainly no complaints, but only solid, without bringing anything inspirational.

A group of us went there for a Saturday dinner. The highlight was the entree platter a great selection of items to get your taste buds going. In comparison the main dishes were average- not that they were bad but they didn't stand out for me. Especially the price was quite expensive. The wine selection is rather limited too.

Lovely place, beautiful decorated and great service. We went for our Xmas lunch and everything was delicious. Crispy vegetarian spring rolls and I choose the seafood fried rice. Full of flavour, fresh and yummy

Tried something new for my birthday weekend and I pretty impressed with the food and service here. In addition to accommodating and friendly staff, the food was really good. Pretty pricey but then again, it was worth every cent. Would recommend the satay as starters/appetisers (not in picture). Portion was smaller than I expected (probably because of the price) but it was really nice. Definitely would return.

Wow, I am not easily impressed with Asian food as we eat it a lot and have our favourites. Siam Reap impressed me big time.
I went as part of a works team dinner (5 of us) and we had pre-ordered the food to make life easy. As soon as we arrived we were asked if we were ready for our missed platter starter. It arrived promptly and was devoured. It was so good, the stuffed chicken wings were outstanding.
As we are all eaters we ordered 7 mains, yes, 7. We ate all of them. Each dish tasted different and all were amazing.
Our stand out dish was - Flame Grilled Duck u $ 30.00
Juicy duck breasts marinated using our home made recipe, topped with
stir-fried vegetables served on a hot plate.
I am not a big duck fan but I made sure I got my share of this dish.

Fantastic food. There is a separate vegan and gf menu. Lovely classy ambiance with mood lighting and soft music. Good service. I have dined here many times, including once with a group of 25. The staff cope well with large groups and picky guests. Top notch.

Slightly more pricey than most Wellington restaurants, but the atmosphere and good service are worth it for a special night out.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I went with a group of 6 and we were lucky to get a table without a booking - it was packed for the entire time we were there! With a dark colour scheme, slick furniture and a brightly lit bar, this restaurant can feel a bit cramped but I guess it adds to the charm.

FOOD: A big menu with lots of options, I had the beef brisket served in a tomato based sauce and served with roti and rice. The meat was tasty but some of the pieces were a tad dry. The sauce was plentiful so thankfully the roti was the perfect compliment. I truly enjoyed my ginger mocktail too - the undertones of banana and mango were sublime.

SERVICE: Erratic. The waitresses were friendly but appeared disorganised. We had to follow up on our dishes as the wait time was long.

Would've given a higher rating had the service been assured and timely.

Ate dinner here with a party of 5 2 nights ago - a freezing, bitterly cold night, but a well-heated, comfortable eatery!
The menu is huge - plenty to choose from; the food was great and very generous portions (doggie bags went home with us). My partner thought his Amok a bit tasteless, but the rest of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
The service was fabulous - thank you Sonya, from Germany, for your friendly service, sense of humour, and picture-taking skills.
While its not on the menu, their Cambodian coffee (like Vietnamese) is also great although they don't have the metal drip contraption for each cup - fine coffee nevertheless.

I told them I'd write a review - gold star to Siem Reap - I'll be back!

A large group of us dined at Siem Reap this week. I was a little nervous recommending a restaurant that I'd usually only dined at previously in small groups to a group of 18 colleagues with varying food preferences and palettes, but Siem Reap managed to please everybody, including vegetarians. We arrived in two stages due to delayed flights and the staff were able to accommodate us with a selection of nibbles for those there at the start: chicken spring rolls, deep fried king prawns and deep fried potato balls. The prawns were especially good and the potato balls were also popular with the group. I ordered a medium-hot beef curry saraman with roti for my main course. I loved the combination of peanut, lime and coconut cream with coriander. Although I had to ask for my roti several times (and it arrived towards the end of my meal), it was great dipped into the remaining sauce and I was too full for dessert. We'd ordered rice for the table but barely made a dent in the huge bowl as most of the meals didn't require anything other than what was on the plate. The food was well presented and the restaurant environment pleasant. We enjoyed good service with reasonable wait times considering how large our group was. Highly recommended.

Went here last night with a group of 6. Were warmly greeted. Started with fresh spring rolls ($13). They were very good. Ordered a few dishes. My fiancé had the best dish on the table. She ordered beef with traditional spices, chilli, and asian basil ($25). It was delicious! I ordered the sizzling duck ($30). It was fine - but texture wash't what I'm use to. The meat was a bit dry and lacking flavour. Strange for duck. Others on the table had a prawns, scallops, and pork. All dishes these were good. The decor and atmosphere is nice and beautiful. The wine list decent. They do allow BYO on Mondays and Tuesdays. Prices were a bit high but portions were very large. I would have liked more vegetables and rice included instead of an extra $3. I would go back for my fiancé's dish.

Although intending to go to a nearby Vietnamese restaurant last night, it turned out that this was closed. The weather was bad and Siem reap was open. We entered into the bustling Cambodian restaurant and was immediately captured by the warmth and good smells.

We ordered a glass of Pinot Gris for $9, and I thought the wine prices and the list were reasonable. Wines were about $38-40 for the bottle and $8-9 by the glass.

The menu is interesting - showing Cambodia's influence from vietnam, thailand, India (curry), France (the filled baguette) and China. Because of that it seemed very easy to find something of interest. We ordered seafood soup and the grilled duck. The soup was pleasant - like a Tom yam without the chillis - three prawns. a few bits of squid and some vegetables. The sweet/sour/salt balance leaned toward sweet maybe because the spice heat wasn't there to balance it. The duck came on a sizzling hot plate under a bed of vegetables. The duck was very tender and perfectly cooked. The vegetables were ok but the sauce again leant towards the sweet. Maybe this simply reflects "kiwi sweet" akin to Indian restaurants "kiwi hot" . Whatever, cutting back on the sugar wouldn't harm the flavour of both dishes. Rice comes separately - that seemed odd given that rice is a Cambodian staple - maybe it's to cater to the Lo-carb dieters but then that wouldn't make sense given the sweetness of the other dishes. Service was pleasant but not overly brilliant - when we ordered seafood soup we didn't realise there was another seafood soup on the menu as well - and of course we got the other one. No matter, it was partly our fault and she was pleasant and seemed to be genuinely interested.

Other than that we thought it a good Asian restaurant, kid friendly, quite noisy, but cosy. It was at least one notch up from the average CBD Asian eat it-and-beat it.

Went here a while back, about 6 months ago but remembered my experience. Thought I'd go to a nice place for an anniversary but what I thought was wrong. We were given 2 of the most awkward seats near a a room divider and place under a lamp WITH NO LIGHTBULB even when seats were empty. I thought I'd brush it off so we just moved seats as the waitress did not pay any attention as i was politely trying to get her attention. Very bad service. Food wasn't amazing, was just food when it came to me, luke warm after a 30 min wait. .. The expensive price for a meal that could not full you didn't make it any better. The meals for me and my partner arrived separately and were warm. I ordered some coconut curry that lacked flavour. Rice is not complementary and even when ordered the amount given is still not enough for one person. And I'm a small person! I was so displeased. I didn't even bother showing my misery as I wanted to keep everything in good tone for my anniversary. So we just paid and left. The place was not busy on that night either. This restaurant is what made me create this account lol. Or maybe it was just an unlucky experience. Either way, it was my honest experience. No real bang for buck either, about 40 bucks a head

Went for dinner here a few nights ago with my partner. The atmosphere and the service was very good. The beef brisket curry was beautiful. We also had the spicy stir fry on the menu. This was full of beautiful vegetables but did not have much flavour. This was fine as the curry more than made up for it.

Excellent food and a lovely dining experience. The restaurant was warm and nicely presented. The salmon with tamarind sauce is heavenly. It is a favourite restaurant for us.

Me and my partner went for dinner last week. The food here is just outstanding. Lots of options with vegetables included which was perfect for us. We enjoyed it so much that we will be back very soon. The decoration of the place is also very nice, it reminds me of Thailand. I'd say one of the nicest meals I have had for a while :)
Molly
Excellent service, meals, cocktails and excellent value.
We were a table of four and dined banquet style. All our dishes had their own distinctive flavour. Lots of fresh vegetables were included. Serving sizes generous. Combo platter for starters was great variety of tastes and textures. The cocktails original and delicious. It was a busy Saturday night and the service was knowledgeable and charming.

I had my daughter's 20th birthday on 24/10/2013 at Siem Reap. There were 13 of us. My daughter and her friends loved everything about this place, especially the food. Her friends said they will definitely return.

Really good food, atmosphere and friendly attentive service. I can't believe I haven't gone before! I will be back. And they had Ata Rangi summer rosé, a perfect match with spicy Cambodian food. Good Veggie & Fish options. And if you like spicy, you'll get it if you ask.

GREAT food!! Fresh ingredients, its so good! I always go for the same dish because it is just soo good but should really try some other dishes too. The portions are big. I have been here about 8 times now. I take everybody there who is never been, everybody always LOVES it! Definitely highly recommend this place
Casey
Very nice Cambodian food. Nice attention put into the food. When it comes out, the effort and choice of produce is evident. (its not chucked together in a wok like asian food) Very nice flavours.

Nice atmosphere, but the place is a bit low in lighting for my liking.

Walked out nice & full.

We went there on Thursday night and it was packed. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. My first love is Indian food but this food is gorgeous because of the spices and lovely Malaysian flavours. Tasty food and good service are hard to find but for the third time they have delivered. Only criticism would be that they rush you through the order as the food appears so quick. We solved that by ordering our entree and mains at separate times and it was perfect.

A friend recommended that we go here for a meal. It's a really nice place good atmosphere. We had entree's which were really lovely - spring rolls, prawns and one other. Very nice, well presented but we still opted to go elsewhere for our mains. We will try next time to have a main and post a fuller review

Great Food, Great Service, GREAT Prices! Mains are very generous, Alcohol is cheap as chips
by far one of my favorite places to eat in Wellington
were catered to very well at my last visit, turning up unannounced with 6 people and got a table straight away, looked after very well, i cant fault these guys, the place was quite busy too, whatever your doing keep doing it because like charlie sheen, you are WINNING!

Reviewer007, complaining about greasy spring rolls... what do you expect its deep fried nastys... you call yourself a reviewer, you mention nothing about the fantastic range of food they offer that would cater to the most fussy of appetite, its not there fault you cant understand their menu or order something deepfried and complain its greasy?

My first visit to Siam Reap last night, for a dinner with friends. What a meal.
The ambience was fantastic, with exquisite decor and mood lighting (that wasn't too dim).
We received great service, and ordered from a tempting selection. I can't remember the names of the dishes, but we shared 4 between us, and they arrived within about 10-15 minutes, and pretty much at the same time. The flavours were truly out of this world, absolutely fresh, unique and delicious.

Was a Monday night so the place was quiet, I expect it may be a more bustling experience on weekend nights, but in any case, highly recommended!

Disappointing. We had booked a large table for 7 people online and when we got there, they didn't have our booking.

It wasnt full for a Saturday night and we were able to get another table.

The waitress was nice and polite but inattentive. When we finished our meal, she was quick to take our plates away and we felt rushed and there wasn't anyone else waiting??

The food was greasy and not enjoyable. I had spring rolls as on on-tray and they were filled with potato. Not very tasty.

The menu was difficult to understand with so many different options available.

The environment was nice but oddly quiet for a Saturday night.

Not recommended: Disappointing

Been here for lunch and dinner many times. Always great food and service. No complaints at all - keep up the good work.
Good menu to choose from.

My absolute favourite Wellington restaurant. Consistently great food, great service and great atmosphere. I eat here regularly (you have to book!). I take out of town visitors here, and regularly recommend this restaurant to others. One of those hidden treasures which unfortunately everyone is beginning to realise exists.

Went in on Friday night with the family, I had the sweet & sour Fish (I forget what it was called but it was Menu item E6...). It was lovely - quite gingery, a combination of delicious battered fish with fresh vegetables, and a beautiful sweet & sour sauce. My fussy 8 yr old had the chicken nuggets (not at all McDonald like, but actually chicken!) with a side of rice, and devoured it! My husband and son had the Satay chicken kebabs followed by Chicken Me goring, which they both absolutely loved! We finished the meal off with ice cream - lovely! The service was efficient, and the food came out promptly. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and we love the large Cambodian paintings and wooden statues. Always a wonderful experience.

I've been there twice already and am going back again tonight! The food, atmosphere and service is top-notch. I would recommend this excellent restaurant to anyone!

YUMMO food and quantity too!

Cheers,

Janet

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times and enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere there. Their salads and grilled dishes were very delicious.
