Review Dragonfly - Wellington

This place is always super busy. This Japanese Asian fusion restaurant is absolutely packed during the weekends. Even though today is Monday, most seats were taken. Their food and service never disappoint us. All the people I know always say good things about this place. Tonight was no exception. We had their Coconut Squid to start with. Their preparation is unique, and their squid is so tender and delicious. We also shared Sticky Pork Belly, Salmon 2 Ways, and Sesame Noodle Salad from the main course to share. They were absolutely divine! This place offers some unique seasonings and presentations compared to many places that offer similar tastes or food. We shared their Star Anise Panna Cotta and Korean Twisted Donuts for dessert. They were both really tasty. We were so full and happy with all the food and friendly service. Thank you for the great food and time! We loved our evening there tonight. We totally recommend this place.

Food and service were great. The beef short ribs were out of this world, as were the potatoes.

It is just on the Courney Place street, but don't believe Google map - it took us the long way around in a rainy day... What we liked the most are the China flower mocktail, Taiwanese chicken, tofu dumplings, red duck curry and egg fried rice.

Really lovely Welly restaurant in Courtney place. The cocktails were yum, half price for the classics. Service was great we had a two hour slot allocated and food was delicious. The mains are really generous.

Such a successful night for a big group of people! The banquet menu was customised and those with dietary requirements were taken care of very thoughtfully. It was a great way to try a bit of everything on the menu and staff were very attentive to us at the table. Food and drinks were served quickly and it felt private enough but still quite central within the dining area. Thank you so much to the staff for a wonderful and memorable dinner! ❤️❤️

What an amazing experience, who knew that this amazing place with the most beautiful scenery’s and the most relaxing vibe, could be tucked away behind such a busy street. The food was outstanding and customer service was top notch. Look forward to dinning here again.

Great atmosphere and service with really tasty food. Would recommend the popcorn chicken and yellow fin tuna as starters. The duck curry and beef short rib mains were incredible. Went on a Wednesday which was their mystery wine night and got a glass of red for £8.

Awesome Asian fusion cuisine, in an awesome restaurant in central Wellington. Food was quick to our table of 10, beautifully cooked and presented. A great array of cocktails, alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Busy place with amazing food. Even though the place was full on a Friday night, exceptional food and excellent service. Was really impressed, would definitely recommend for an Asian infusion of flavors.

Dragonfly in Wellington is an absolute hidden gem! The seating area is inviting, and the bar exudes tranquility. Their creative cocktail menu is a real treat. While there could be a bit more variety for vegetarians, the options they have are delicious. The ambience is top-notch, and the friendly service enhances the experience.

Asian fusion, but not as you know it. Dragonfly offers a diverse menu, with tempting mains and share plates. I opted for some small dishes, as I didn't have a large appetite. Potatoes in a coconut sauce was new for me, and surprisingly it worked very well. Excellent cocktails. Professional and prompt service throughout the night.

Saturday night dinner with my partner. We didn’t book but got a nice table. Friendly & attentive service. <br/>Really tasty food - we had a few dishes to share : mushroom bao’s, okonomiyaki, seared tuna, duck spring rolls and jasmine rice. Plus a couple of yummy cocktails followed by a glass of white wine & beer.

First time here today and omg the food is just so<br/>Amazing and delicious, everything is so fresh and wakes up your tastebuds! We were greeted and showed to our table as soon as we walked in and our orders were taken pronto. Love the ambiance and the feel of the place, it’s just so lovely, the drinks we ordered were refreshing and the entree followed not long after that which was just wow..delicious !!!!!!! I absolutely loved the perking mushroom Bao’s, it’s a must try, the buns are so soft and every bite is full of deliciousness! The ginger chicken dumplings are so very delicious And so was the 3 cheese parcels, don’t think I’ve ever had such great dumplings before!!! Our mains were super yummy as well and so was the dessert, the plum and tamarind tart which my boy ordered was so delicious that I regret not ordering one for myself. I have used the word “delicious” so many times because it just is !!!! some of the best food I’ve have had in ages, it’s just mouthwatering. I really can’t wait to go back and try more. It’s a 10/10 for me overall.

Came here for Wellington On A Plate, tried the Bangkok Burger, paired with Garage Project DFA and it was amazing. The various elements of the dish went together so well. To give you an idea I normally NEVER even touch coriander, but with this dish so perfectly balanced, I actually ate the raw coriander along with the Clareville Pandan bun, Thai Green Curry crumbed deep fried free range chicken chicken, shallots, green papaya, coconut and lime relish, pickled green pepper, spiced eggplant. Imo this burger beat the competition by a country mile. Served with shoestring fries sprinkled with Nahm Jim salt. Absolutely delish! Wanna try the other mains now. Very impressed

Went here last night with my partner for dinner, the restaurant was all full so we were told to go down to the bar area which was WAY better than the restaurant anyway with the same menu.<br/><br/>Service was impeccable, we were seated with menus and water straight away. Orders taken and the server kept coming back with water and asking if we needed more drinks etc plus cleared away anything we were done with.<br/><br/>The food was beyond amazing! We had the twice cooked pork belly, edamame beans, Asian greens, fried rice, chicken dumplings and prawn shumai. Everything was delicious!<br/><br/>Every cocktail we had was delicious too! China Girl was my favorite of the evening!<br/><br/>Will definitely be coming back here, I dont give 5 stars often because not many places blow me away but this one sure did!!

Dragonfly is such a nice restaurant to go to with a group of people, you can try lots of different things from the menu. I would recommend the pork and chive dumplings, pork bao, pork and prawns and the Asian greens

Take out after too many martinins. Korean fried chicken is good. Pork bao i wouldnt bother with. Three cheese parcels are insane! Must have if you like sharp cheeses. Dumplings were ok nothing crazy. Egg fried rice also very good. Would probably eat at the venue when i get back to wellington.

Good service, friendly and quick. Nice setting in the courtyard at the back. Food was all good but the Beef short Ribs and and Bao buns were amazing!

Delicious food. Served in a timely manner, no long waits. Atmosphere was great, low lighting and not too loud. Neat art on the walls too! Def recommend this place, and we will be back. $140 for 3 of us, 2 entrees for the table, drinks each and mains. No room for dessert sadly.

“Ching Ching Bing Bong”. Enough said. Yes, let’s perpetuate racial slurs in the 21st century and wave it off as having a sense of humour. Funny how people get all up in arms over blackface and the swastika yet it’s funny to be racist to Asians. I’m sure people will tell me to get over it because “the food is so good.” Says more about Wellingtonians than anything. Wake the f up, capital city.

Loved this place! Food is delicious and well presented. Service is great too. A bit pricey for the amount you get but definitely worth it. Cocktails are a must-try!

What an outstanding place. Bit of a weird setup restaurant wise... but closed off which looses some potential atmosphere but no problem. Started with Tuna Tataki which was some of the freshest you will have. We asked for the food to come out slowly as we were in no hurry however everything came out all at once from then on. Chicken and ginger dumplings were great as were the pork buns but the highlight was the beef short rib. Unbelievably tender fall of the bone stuff great flavours and no fat. Potatoes in a coconut cream sort of sauce were the best Asian potatoes I’ve ever had... nice on the outside but soft like mash potato on the inside. Great joint.
Hannah.milne11
I went here for a 21st dinner and it was the perfect place for it, there was a food banquet where my friend picked a set menu and the food all came out, amazing variety and delicious flavours! It was a great setting and we had our own section of the restaurant so it didn’t interfere with other customers. Great service.
Intendingtoburn
Wellington's most racist bar and restaurant.<br/><br/>Even if the food was Michelin star-worthy (which it certainly was not - the spring rolls and dumplings tasted pre-made), you simply do not operate a Pan-Asian restaurant (or any restaurant for that matter) in 2018 with a cocktail on the menu named 'Ching Chong Bing Bong'.<br/><br/>Everyone who either works at or supports this establishment should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

Good one to visit once a while. Dumplings and beef dishes are the ones to try. Salad with every dish is yum with an unusual addition of raw banana. Suitable for a date night.

Absolutely everything about this place is wonderful! Rocked up a little early, so headed to the bar for drinks while waiting - not disappointed! And the food was even better! The red curry duck was amazing!

Beautiful culinary experience at dragonfly. The Asian fusion cuisine was beautifully portrayed in all the dishes we tried this evening. The pork buns were tasty although would have loved some more sauce. Papaya salad was on point as far as flavours go. Such a lovely refresher between bites of other dishes. Chicken and ginger dumplings were a lovely texture and doused in a very yummy vinergary sauce. Yum yum yum. Cocktails were also mentionable. The waitress happily took our order for a bespoke cocktail which was also nice. Lovely staff and attentive service. Decor also a treat. Great experience.

4 of us went to dinner on Friday night. We did book and were advised we would be in the courtyard. After being a little apprehensive about were we would be placed we were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the courtyard is. The entire place was full. It appears to be a great place to go to after work for wonderful food. <br/><br/>The service was great, very attentive and helpful. The menu selection was awesome. When the food arrived we were all over the moon with the quality and flavours<br/><br/>Highly recommend this as a place to eat

I have came here quite a few times when I was back in welly and the staff are really friendly also the restaurant had a really calm and relaxing vibe, the salt and pepper chicken are to die for they might not be the best chicken wings I've had as I've had many, but it was still really good the slat and pepper seasoning with dipped in the chilli sauce they provide is amazing. overall one of the best sorta asian fusion type of restaurant in welly definitely recommend you give it a visit if in welly.

Oct, 2018: One of the best Pan-Asian restaurants in Wellington, and what sets it apart is the professional and friendly service, and the bloody awesome flavours popping out of every dish! Thanks to our hosts, who apparently are perennial fans of Dragonfly, they rate this place for consistently great food. Definitely a food sharing type of place, and you’d be mad not to try as many dishes as possible on your visit. For us, that included starters of a burger bao special, Korean wings, salt and pepper squid, spring rolls, and the best edamame ever! Larger plates of pork belly, duck curry, beef rib, chicken ? and Asian greens were smashed. Along with 3 bowls of rice (jasmine and coconut), there was nothing left between 6 of us, and we were all pretty full, but eyeing up the last morsels on the plates till they were gone! A most enjoyable dining experience, and special mention to the cocktail staff who put together a very pleasing Mojito for my wife, with a whiskey base instead of gin as per the menu. Very highly recommended!<br/><br/>May, 2017: First stop for the night out, and we struck it lucky here, with half price cocktails on a Tuesday night. Definitely worth a visit for yummy cocktails, a cool vibe, young, friendly staff and competent cocktail bar staff. The decor is very eye catching, and the food on other diners' tables looked extremely inviting. Too bad we weren't booked in for dinner here, but will definitely head back for a meal when we visit again.

If you like gingernuts, the ginger kiss cocktail is a must. It is something you've never tasted before. It is incredible! The service is good, and the wine list is pretty good.

The atmosphere walking in was very zen. It was like all of us were about to walk through a calm hallway into a tranquil spa treatment, except for food of course! <br/><br/>We only ordered starters and desserts because we weren't very hungry to start with. <br/><br/>Most of the food was absolutely delightful. I enjoyed the octopus takoyaki, it was crunchy on the outside and soft and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. The bao buns were absolutely incredible and soft! The pork had the texture of butter. We also ordered the nori squid and we devoured that in minutes. It was succulent and juicy. <br/><br/>We ordered a sampler dessert and enjoyed most of it. The berry panacotta however had that funny fridge after-taste to it. Perhaps storing some baking soda in the fridge might improve that? Apart from that, the rest of the dessert was pretty impeccable. <br/><br/>We also ordered drinks like cocktails, wellington hot chocolate and tea. All was absolutely fantastic. <br/><br/>The service overall was really great and they showed a lot of initiative without us asking for more food/drinks/service. <br/><br/>Overall, would recommend 10/10 would do it again.

The food here is amazing. I especially love the salmon two ways and the beef short rib. Also loved the lychee cocktail. The dumplings aren't anything special.

This place has my absolute favourite cocktail (China Girl) - a rich plummy concoction - and fabulous dumplings and other small sharing plates. The garden bar down the back is fantastic on warmer nights - if you can get a seat!

I think the owners sister was ex english teacher of Jackie Chan. The owner used to have another restaurant near Niwa. This place offers oriental fusion dishes. Dumpling is great and other dishes are nice. You need to book a table in advance as it is a full house every night. I seen many couples there as the lighting is cozy and wonderful place for couples. I took foreign guests there several times. It was a success. It can be a bit pricy but you will not make a mistake. Highly recommended!

After dinner tonight me and my friend wandered in because we'd always walked passed it but had never been inside. Restaurant was fully booked but thankfully we didn't have an appetite this time. <br/><br/>As for a few local bars like Bodega, Fat Angel's and Monsoon Poon I'm always surprised how deep bars can be. As for Dragonfly, the bar was located all the way at the back and featured a nice outdoor space with a large projector screen and a small army of waitstaff. <br/><br/>We were seated with water and a few menu's one with bar meals, wine & beers as well as a cocktail list. We agreed on getting the cocktail taster set which came with three concoctions: Amondo, Samuri Sake and a ginger creme. My friend and I both favored different drinks with my choice being the Sake because of its sweet sugary cheeriliscious reverb towards the end and right at the start. There was something about its balanced nodes and blunt sake rivalry that made the drink pretty dynamic. After this we brought two more of each the Samuri Sake and the Amondo. The Amondo was a bit lemony and basic for my tasting but after sipping the last few drops the drink is uplifted by a huge sugary syrup that kicks it to another place. <br/><br/><br/>Overall left feeling tipsy which was great, waitstaff were rather attractive and worked effectively as a team. The bar menu foldout was a cool party trick and the deep, dark and loomy bar was pretty good but of course was left light walleted. Will return to check out the dinner menu very shortly, stay tuned. <br/>

Quite unhappy with the fact they don't serve dragonflys. Shan't be returning. Although, in hindsight, I opened up their cleaning closet and miss krebopel and principal Seymour skinner were in there making a baby and I saw it and it winked at me.. Great experience, as I'm a Virgin.

Nice warm cozy place ! Always busy which u always have to book a table ! U can drink at the back! However small portion but good food and quite expensive !

Love this place. Had a meal in the main restaurant which was nice but was loud. We now much prefer going out the back to the outside bar area and having a quiet wine & a few dishes from the snack menu. Feels like your in the back blocks of China, it's very cool. Only complaint is the smokers as the outside area is technically the smoking area. Shame as is the best place to sit.

Tuesday's are two for one cocktails and they're really good. Highly recommend this place to all cocktail lovers. Deco is great and service is ok. For my main I had the wok tossed noddles, the meal was delicious but unfortunately they only served me 3 prawns for a $29 dish. Was a bit disappointed. My friends had the salt and pepper chicken, pork dumplings, squid and lemongrass chicken which they stated were all delicious too. Overall great restaurant to dine at.

Do you have a place, you could've been there yesterday and the day before and you would still eat there again today? Dragonfly is that place for me. I used to live here, often coming twice in one evening, especially on two for one cocktail night (Tuesday's) or mystery wine night (Wednesday). All of the food is delicious. One note: they haven't changed there menu much since opening. Which doesn't bother me- as I like to be able to be sure that my favourites are going to always be there but it does mean there's no elements of surprise when it comes to the mains. My suggestion? The duck spring rolls, pork shu mai, salmon two way, beef rib or the lemongrass chicken.

Excellent place<br/>Went there with a group of work colleagues including some overseas visitors<br/>I must say great food and service with a good selection of both<br/>We were all impressed and I've recommended the place to many others

Our group of 5 had a fantastic meal on a Saturday night. Arriving late-ish with no reservation, we were seated out the back in the funky courtyard. The food was terrific, a fantastic range of fresh Asian flavours. We enjoyed every dish. Good drinks menu too, including some great cocktails. And all this at a very reasonable price!

What a lovely experience. Was brought to this place by a friend and we shared a variety of dishes - the duck curry, pork belly, angus beef curry, seared yellow fin tuna, takoyaki balls. Very tasty, food was fresh, timely prepared (you didn't have to wait long) and the service was just excellent. For desserts, we shared the deconstructed chocolate mousse (can't remember its exact name) - yum yum! We also went for the 'wine roulette' and ended up with some pretty fine selection of red and white from the Marlborough and Otago regions.<br/><br/>We prolly over-ordered for 2 ppl, so there was still some leftover food for takeaway - hence nothing was wasted! Ambience was really lovely too. Highly recommended.

It was my birthday and I chose Dragonfly to celebrate the occassion as it is somewhere I had been keen to try for a while.<br/><br/>It was a Saturday, so we made a booking beforehand. On the day we arrived at 6pm, and were seated at by the window. I asked to move to one of the booths, as they looked nicer, and they did this for us.<br/><br/>We started with a carafe of the Plum Punch ($28.00). Really tasty, fruity and with just enough kick. Very enjoyable.<br/><br/>As we were seated at the front, I took a walk around to check out the decor. Throughout its dark with dim lighting. Nice ambience but a little too dark for me.<br/><br/>The decor is Asian inspired with colonial touches, such as the wooden bar at the rear. There is also a really cool courtyard bar where you can go just for drinks. It's a great spot.<br/><br/>Back at the table we ordered a mix of small and large plates:<br/>* Spring rolls $16.00<br/>* Honey Comb Squid $15.00<br/>* Green Papaya Salad $23.00<br/>* Pork & Prawn $29.00<br/><br/>Dished arrived quickly and each was very satisfying. Spring rolls were crisp and had the right amount of filling. The Squid was very good, cooked perfectly. Very soft and light with a lovely coating. The Papaya was another triumph. This was a  <br/>favourite dish of mine when I travelled through SE Asia. Western versions don't really compare, but this one did. Fresh, crisp salad and the dressing had a serious kick. Perfect.<br/><br/>The Pork & Prawn was a nice surprise too. Plenty of succulent pork, plus crackling and three large gambas with vegetables in XO sauce. Delicious. <br/><br/>These dishes were plenty for both of us.<br/><br/>For dessert we ordered the Dessert Tasting platter ($22.00) which consisted of:<br/>* Plum sorbet<br/>* Chocolate and chili mouse<br/>* Banana vanilla ice-cream<br/>* Banana teacake<br/><br/>Each of these were quite decadent. The mouse was particularly rich with a chili aftertaste. The sorbet was my least favourite - it was a bit too icy for a sorbet.<br/><br/>I liken Dragonfly to Chow, same idea but a little more sophisticated. <br/><br/>All up we paid $133.00, which was very reasonable for everything we ordered.<br/><br/>I will definitely return, even if its just to have a drink in the bar.

A dark rabbit warren / bordello of a place - constructed by a dyslexic architect with agrophobia - in other words unexpected little cosy spaces that are warm and delicious in themselves. <br/><br/>Thursday night dinner for five, and fortunately we booked as they were turning people away. Clearly it's popular. <br/><br/>Our group had drinks at the bar first - beer (reasonable list), methode (choice of two) and a sake - all reasonably priced. <br/><br/>Staff were lovely - attentive friendly and helpful.<br/><br/>A very cute origami menu - clever / good idea.<br/><br/>Food: we chose five different entrees, five mains and five desserts. <br/><br/>Stand out interesting dishes were the main duck and the entree cheese parcels. I struggle to differentiate the rest as being in any way exceptional. I thought accompanying dips were rather crude and fell well short of the complex liquids presented at restaurant 88 round the corner.<br/><br/>I use a simple criteria to decide whether a dish is ordinary or worthwhile - basically can I use the word "delicious" in its true sense to describe the dish? If not - and that applies to most dishes at most restaurants, so please don't overuse the word - then I regard it as ordinary and may feel slightly irritated that I've paid money for it. "Luscious" is one notch up and is very rare in my vocabulary. <br/><br/>Anyway two dishes were clearly "delicious" - the duck and the cheese parcels - you may disagree. That's a low proportion but I have to say everything else was at least pleasant and therefore worth trying.<br/><br/>Two white wines were good - Maude Pinot Gris and an Alsatian Giselbrecht Pinot Gris. I especially liked the second, it had a bit more of an edge with the Maude seeming a bit flabby as we approached the bottom of the bottle. <br/><br/>Would I go back? I'm not sure what it would be for though - there is so much good competition in the Asian fusion scene that for food I'd probably go elsewhere. But I did like (I loved) the ambience and for a group it is great, good company, hunger, conversation and laughter inject an otherwise ordinary meal with a degree of artificial deliciousness. <br/><br/>Kids - yes, especially teenagers<br/>Groups: definitely<br/>Date night: yes<br/>Foodies: yes at least once<br/>Take your parents: yes<br/>Take out of towners: yes<br/>The elderly : hmmm it's pretty noisy at the back of the restaurant, front by the entrance isn't so bad
Carina Chang
nice&warm place. Tried both woap and dinner menu. We shared all dishes. Prefer the pork hock in Wuxi sauce, salmon in 2ways, and wok tossed squid. The king prawn with pork belly was too oily. Every dish came in a pretty presentation. Service are great too. Great place, will come next time.

The decor of Dragonfly is moody and sophisticated – the courtyard area is something not to the missed. I love ambience outside with the lanterns, bamboo wall and garden, definitely a good date night location. The cocktail list is immense, but I would suggest the Ginger Kiss shot in a heartbeat! It’s delicious, and they now have it as a full size cocktail, but I feel it's just a bit too overpowering as a full drink – shot size all the way! They also have an incredible wine list where you can get a carafe of wine – a perfect size for one!<br/> <br/>Their food is outstanding Asian fusion – full of flavour and so fresh. My favourite dish here is their entree Yellow Fin Tuna – it’s refreshing and seared to perfection, the flavours compliment the tuna without overpowering it! Other dishes not to miss are the eggplant salad, lemongrass chicken and salmon 2 ways.<br/> <br/>I was really impressed when I came with a large group and had a set menu. They made changes to the shared dishes so the ones placed around me were made to be gluten free.<br/> <br/>Now onto something sweet – the dark chocolate mousse. This is my go-to dessert, as it is the perfect balance with a subtle kick of chilli. The coconut sticky rice pudding is a great refreshing way to finish off you meal.<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge

All of the food here is so full of flavor and delicious. Staff have always been great too. The outside garden courtyard has a great atmosphere, suitable for drinks and nibbles, even dinner, the heating makes it great all year round. Likewise the inside atmosphere is great too, only negative point is that it gets very hot and stuffy inside when they are busy. I recommend pre booking a table as they get very busy and take bookings for small numbers.
Kklovestoeat
What's not to love about this place?  The ambiance is on point, and the food, my goodness, it's like literal foodgasms.<br/>I love the Tuna starter, delicious - the dressing is sweet and savory, beautifully covered in black and white sesame.  The curry pot, is thick, luscious and melt in your mouth meat.  <br/>However, my favorite was the lychee creme brulee... we were supposed to share, but something this amazing, it's just not the type of thing you share without accidentally letting out a growl or two.  It's so delicious it'll turn the most sophisticated woman feral, if asked to share.<br/>Vodka sours were amazing too -  honestly, I would just go and experience a small slice of Asian nirvana.

Favourite place for asian fusion food. Always busy. Good drinks menu. Food is always amazing. Garlic chives dumplings are to die for. Little pricey but always a good experience

Business dinner last night . 😁. Awesome place. Perfect service. Good food. The beef curry is epic. Special mention for the smart wait staff who suggested adding extra entres as we were 4 and the dish as 3 peices. I am surprised how many good spots miss such minor detail that goes a long way.
Joel Heath
Went to enjoy a nice drink here from a decent range. Found the waitstaff to be quite hostile and unprofessional with one of them even wiping the top of our wine bottle with his hands after spilling it on the table.
Food Adventures With AnnaJ
I dined here with a group of ten and we had such a great night. The service was 10/10, our waiter Connor was attentive without being intrusive. Our water glasses were always full and he remembered ten drink orders without writing anything down. He made sound recommendations for cocktails too! All I can say is give this man a raise!! As for the food, again everything was great. We ordered everything on the entree menu and it was all so yummy. My personal fave was the tuna, the sauce was so tasty. Everything was well portioned too. We shared a few of the mains, the beef curry being the unanimous favourite. Great flavours although my meat tasted a little fatty. The pork and prawns were really tasty but we only had two prawns which was disappointing. <br/>The interior was awesome, and the decor went so well with the theme of the menu.
Brianna Huddleston
Really cool restaurant and bar area at the back. The cocktails are delicious, especially the ginger kiss , it truly tastes just like a ginger kiss biscuit!! The squid is delicious and so is the salmon two ways. Dumplings look good but sadly are not vegetarian so haven't tried them!
Iain
Delicious food and attentive waiting staff. Very nice combinations of flavours, and Asian cooking closer to what you can get in China than you normally get here as far as flavours and ingredients go. They were also happy to make changes to dishes to suit the two vegetarians in our group.
Hamish.rutherford
Great modern Asian. Bookings are taken for tables inside but I've only eaten in the courtyard at the back, and I wouldn't want to sit inside anyway. Be prepared to share. Very good cocktails and good atmosphere. Although the courtyard is mostly covered I don't remember being bothered by ciggy smoke.
Angela Liu
Dragonfly has an extensive cocktail list and is perfect for a night out. The food cannot be faulted and my favourite dish is the Salmon 2 ways. The staff were polite and friendly and were happy to meet dietary restrictions.

For exotic Asian fusion cuisine that's a refreshing mix of traditional and contemporary influences, I absolutely love Dragonfly. A restaurant, bar & courtyard, Dragonfly features gorgeous and elegant decor throughout all three spacious venues. I recently dined here for the first time in a year and absolutely loved it!<br/><br/>Having previously dined in the main restaurant, which features dim, romantic lighting, this time my friends and I dined in the courtyard - a bright, refreshing outdoor space featuring wooden furniture, a garden and pretty fairy lights. The atmosphere was lively, energetic but relaxed - I loved the ambience! It was Tuesday and I was delighted that it just so happened to be 2 for 1 cocktail night. I ordered Coconut Berry Colada and Beijing Bellini, and my friends ordered Gingerboy. For our mains, we ordered the Salmon 2 Ways, Lemongrass Chicken, and Pork & Prawn, with two bowls of jasmine rice for the table.<br/><br/>I personally loved my Coconut Berry Colada as it was a delightfully sweet blend of malibu, lychee, raspberry & cream, and while tasting subtly sweet and creamy, was not too strong at all. The Beijing Bellini is a unique take on wine, with lychee liqueur and methode champenoise, but it was little strong for my liking that night. However, I'd recommend it to someone who wants the taste and strength of white wine with an added fruity lychee twist. Gingerboy, like Coconut Berry Colada, wasn't too strong and tasted mostly like a blend of fruit juice.<br/><br/>Our mains were absolutely delicious and were also of huge portion sizes! I enjoyed my Salmon 2 Ways; the meaty salmon fillet with the very fresh taste salad reminded me of Chow's salad dishes. However my favourite was my partner's lemongrass chicken, which was juicy, succulent and well flavoured. <br/><br/>For dessert, I ordered coconut sticky rice pudding. After loving Chow's coconut sticky rice dessert, I was curious to compare. I loved this more - it was a delicious, not too sweet dessert that blended together the coconut, pineapple & caramel flavours flawlessly. <br/><br/>Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Dragonfly, and would highly recommend it for the decor, service, and quality of food & drinks. On top of that, everything was very beautifully presented. However, while the cocktail menu has a large variety, the food menu also features variety but has not changed in the past year, which was a little disappointing - they have hardly introduced any new dishes at all. So while delicious, it'd be exciting to see Dragonfly release some new dishes and be more inventive with its food menu! :)

Went here for dinner last night, Asian tapas style! Awesome food! Particularly the pork bao's, Angus beef curry (which was melt in the mouth tender) and the green papaya salad. Stunning!

We went here recently for the share plates. And my god. Yum! The Asian-style finger food is just to die for at Dragonfly. Well worth a try if your contemplating a booking!

I wanted to try Dragonfly since their deep fried soft shell crab burger that they put on for Wellington On A Plate, and I was very happy after walking out the door stuffed. <br/><br/>When we first got there our table wasn't ready so we went for a drink at the bar. After about 10minutes our waitress came over very apologetic and told us she had asked the people to leave but they weren't moving on. We didn't care too much but it was nice to know she was trying, and the service for the rest of the night was spot on.<br/><br/>The food - wow - every dish was so full of flavour and different. Between 5 of us we got 3 starters and 4 mains, after seeing the chicken wings turn up at our table next door we had to order some as well, and they were so good. The Bao buns are awesome, the papaya salad is authentic and great, the duck curry is very good...it was just all very good. <br/><br/>Cool environment and the bar is a nice place for just a casual drink as well. Will certainly be back.

Attentive staff, lovely cocktails and the food is divine. I've been here numerous times and am always extremely happy with the food and service. We recommend this restaurant to our overseas colleagues when visiting us in Wellington and constantly receive very positive feedback.

Second visit - second time blown away with the amazing food and great service.<br/><br/>Has a great atmosphere in the restaurant and very attentive staff - love the garden bar for a drink before dinner.<br/><br/>The food is what I rate the most! - always so good! portion sizes are great, interesting ingredients and not an overly expensive night even with several courses. <br/><br/>Will continue to return with pleasure for both meals and drinks out in the bar.<br/><br/>Great! Love it.

Our favourite restaurant in Wellington. Love the atmosphere, the outdoor bar, the staff, the wide array of delicious cocktails and of course the delicious food. We come here about once a month and my favourites are the China Girl, the dumplings and the delicious Eggplant salad. We have eaten everything on the menu and recommend it all! Best restaurant in Wellington.

I picked my wife up from airport, then decided to give this place a try. It is a very different experience. both entrees and main courses are nice, especially the slow cooked beef short ribs. After dinner, we had a drink at its backyard, a nice place. We will be back.

Busy Friday night, every single dish was simply delicious and many were outstanding. The food arrived 6 minutes after we ordered it! Service was lovely too. Fantastic experience. Also we all noted the lighting is very kind if you happened to take a romantic date!

Group of 5 on 5 April. table booked and available at 6.30p<br/>m Excellent service. Food was superb and a true learning experience. I will return and recommend to others. The oyster &amp; squid, and tofa dishes stood out. Not cheap but worth it. Will be taking my special people.

Took business colleagues from Melbourne hoping for a repeat of the great experience previously and also aware of the high standards Melbourne has in modern asian dining.<br/>Started in the bar while we waited for a table and had a perfectly mixed martini and a couple of their signature cocktails. Great start.<br/>Shown to our table and given a great rundown of food and specials by very knowledgable waiter.<br/>Food was every bit as good as previous experience if not better. Flavours were clean and authentic and each dish was a delight.<br/>My guests declared the experience equally as good as any they had back home.<br/>Wellington should be very proud of this restaurant and it will remain my first pick when entertaining visitors.

Really good service-so nice to see. Delicious and tasty food, great ambience.

Went to Dragonfly last night with a group of 12. Great ambience with pretty quick service considering the place was busy and we were a larger group. Food devine (even for a fussy non-fish eater like myself). Well presented and mouth watering. Just can't fault the food or the service. <br/><br/>Special mention to our waiter Kieran who was professional but friendly - attentive but not intrusive. Remembered what everyone was drinking even though he was very busy. Give this guy a bonus!
Angele Toomey
The food was amazing (the group I was with had a selection of small plates to share...the seared tuna was divine!)<br/>The drinks list impressive, even the mocktails (which are usually boring as) were inspiring. Try the black doris plum concoction - very yummy indeed!<br/>The ambience in the courtyard was lovely - relaxed and easy. The restaurant is a little more sophisticated and warmly inviting.<br/>Next time I want to have dinner so I can sample some of the mains.<br/>I would highly recommend Dragonfly for ambience, food and drinks...oh wait, I forgot to mention the service - it was excellent - attentive but not intrusive and helpful when a question or special need arose.

Went to Dragonfly on Friday night with a friend. Have heard good things from many people. The food was delicious, but the service was shocking. My glass had lipstick on it, and when I asked the waiter to remove it he gave me a bit of lip. I wanted my order altered (allergies) and the waiter suggested I get something else. It was a straight forward change (just needed a different type of sauce), I told him to check with the kitchen and he said he would but never got back to me. The dessert was delicious. I would come again, but was very disappointed in the service especially because of the price.

Went there about a month ago as part of a big group of friends for drinks at the back. Nice place but extremely terrible service. I initially ordered a rum cocktail and it was terrible, I then opted to get a Tequila Sunrise as I am a big fan of Tequila. When I enquired about the price of it I was told it was $8.50 so I had about three of them, after the third one the waitress wanted to charge me $14.50 for it, which I refused to pay as I was under the impression that they were $8.50. She went inside to double check and apologized for the confusion, great!! As I was ordering my last Tequila Sunrise for the night the original bartender that told me that they were $8.50 wanted to charge me $14.50 and insisted that is how much I paid for the last one!!!!!! my reply was that I was told they were $8.50 and that is how much I was going to pay at this stage the bartender seemed extremely arrogant and insisted once to again that I should pay $14.50 for it, at that stage I just very calmly told him that I was told they were $8.50 and that is how much I was going to pay. He then charged me right amount and was unapologetic and even nasty about it. Now I wasn't going to write a review but one of my friends went there a week ago and out of curiosity enquired about the price of a Tequila sunrise. Answer, $8.50!!!!!Shocking!!!!!!

Another great night dining in a quality establishment. The friendly staff, speedy service and fine preparation of the meals was up to the highest standard. The spring Rolls, Tuna, Salmon, Curry duck and the Nase Göring were first rate and all washed down with an iced Rose wine were all well on target. The after dinner cocktails, at the back bar, to cap off the evening just hit the spot. Highly recommended on all counts with a return visit again clearly on our agenda.

Easily my favourite restaurant in Wellington! Love the food especially the fried chicken nibbles; best in town! Great atmosphere, service and food of course! It's always busy and there is no reason for it not to be. I've been working in hospitality my whole life and am very critical wherever I dine and I can't seem to fault Dragonfly. I recommend it to everyone!
Rebecca Strang
Gorgeous food and nice waiting staff, although a little slow to bring our drinks out. It was a busy Saturday night though so will cut them a bit of slack!

20/4/13 Initially the dark and narrow Restaurant layout confused us, but we settled at a table out the back by the bar where we received excellent drinks service. <br/>Six of us chose a wide range of dishes for starters then mains with knowledgeable help from our waiter. They arrived promptly, as did our drinks. Service was very efficient. Food delicious. <br/>Saturday night Dragonfly was full and quite noisy, and we could not hear what others at the far end of the table were saying without raising our voices. Some attention to acoustics would help..carpet, covered wall panels? The tables are very close, visiting the loo involved squeezing past other diners to get there.<br/>It's a thriving and busy place that would benefit from making their dining experience a little more comfortable.
Anna Long
Food that makes your heart sing! We made a spur of the moment decision to go out to dinner, and managed to get a table in the bar/restaurant. Best service ever, including an offer of a blanket (in case it got cold), the menu and wine list fabulous. Did I mention the food? Excellent, divine, delicious all seem to be inadequate to describe the taste explosion. And the service was awesome - right from our booking via email, walking in the door, giving us blankets, taking our order, giving us food (my fav part). Will I be back again - absolutely!
Al Niven
Great combination of bar/restaurant we had drinks first then went thru to our table, great wine selection with the food, there were 12 of us and we enjoyed a full range of the menu no complaints anywhere, the kitchen are really quick so order carefully <br/>Be carefull as they only take one bill per table which is a pain with today's technology, but it is Wellington ....
Rebecca Boyack
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Dragonfly. All the dishes we selected were tasty and interesting and very well presented. The service from the waitresses was also excellent.<br/><br/>We have been before and will be back.<br/><br/>Thanks to the team who work there and do a great job.
Tracy
Loved it! Great little bar with excellent selection of drinks and nibbles . We decided to stay for dinner and enjoyed the outdoor courtyard. The salmon and the duck were excellent! Fresh healthy food that still feels like an indulgence. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for :D so it's worth it! The service was great, we were served/interacted with about 5 or 6 staff and all were friendly, professional &amp; efficient. The bathrooms were good too. The only thing is that when I'm back I'll get the edamame with just salt :P
Natasha Frewin
Fantastic food and a great atmosphere! Restaurant was a little warm for our liking but was a minor inconvenience in what was otherwise a fantastic night. The salmon was fantastic, not to mention the Asian greens which were a resounding hit. We'll definitely be back :)

Went on Valentine's Day which is a pretty busy night for restaurants generally, so I appreciate that the staff were probably slammed. Still, it took about 20 minutes for my partner to get a drink, and we had to go searching for staff to order dessert after our mains. Aside from the service hiccups, the staff were super friendly. The meal was very tasty, and the coconut rice was by far the best I've ever had. The lychee creme brûlée is a show stopper, elegant and sophisticated, but not really sure what the breadstick that came with it was for, as it was more savoury than sweet and didn't really fit the dish. Overall a lovely night out, but would try it again on a non-holiday to get the full experience.
Letia Brown
Fantastic food.. love the dumplings and crispy chicken starters.. and can never go past either the beef or duck curry although everything is beautiful.. great ambience.. great staff.. I recommend it to anyone..

I have never written a review before but this place deserves excellent feedback. We took our 2 adult children and partners to Dragonfly (a party of 6) and between us ordered most of the items on the menu to share. Dragonfly was excellent in all aspects; even an embarrassing moment when a request to pull the crackling into smaller pieces for sharing resulted in two glasses flying off the table was handled with efficiency, discretion, and pleasantness by the staff (we are so sorry). Dragonfly (along with Boulcott Bistro) gets our vote as best in Wellington for flavour, presentation and service. Can't wait to come back.

I went here a while ago with my partner and thought that it was excellent! It is a little pricier than we normally go for, but we did not feel disappointed at all because the food and service was all fantastic.<br/><br/>To start, we ordered the soft shell crab, the seared tuna and the calamari. It was all excellent, but the seared tuna dish really stood out for me - I will definitely order this again when we return! For my main I got the salmon two ways which was delicious and really different from anything I have ever had before which I loved! My partner got the prawn and pork dish which I was told was wonderful too. For dessert we got the shared platter which was all fantastic too - lots of little things to try that all complimented each other and beautifully presented.<br/><br/>I also want to mention the drinks menu - extensive and it was fun choosing a cocktail! The outdoor area looked lovely too, but we sat inside.
Stephen Wilson
Excellent food best I've had in Wellington for some time friendly and accommodating staff good atmosphere a little brought (as in noisy) when full and only bad mark was for unattentive staff when we first arrived and wanted to order brinks - despite this my favorite resturant at present

Just confidently booked a table for ten out-of-towners that is how much I love this place. (so thought it was about time I wrote a review)<br/>Great ambiance, friendly service, delish menu and I adore the China Girl cocktails. (They are my new favourite thing). If only they served fries they would be perfect! (LOL)<br/>I consistently take friends here (both local and from out-of-town) and have never been let down, quite the opposite - I am always satiated and happy, plus my friends always rave about their experience. <br/>If you need a tip - simply order lots of plates and share - the flavour combinations are heavenly. You really can't go wrong!
Nicole Jackson
Amazing food, great service and I love the back<br/>Yard great for smokers! Would visit often.

My favorite place to dine when I visit Wellington!! The food and service is always outstanding and the flavours are fabulous. My favorites are the cheese wontons the chicken, the beans, the spring rolls and the china girl cocktails...yum yum yum!!!<br/><br/>Always the highlight of my trips to the capital and I know that it is not expensive, a great atmosphere and a great place to meet up with my girlfriends for a night out.

We fought through the crowds on the night of The Hobbit premiere, and it was totally worth it. We worked through the menu - tuna, blue cheese wontons, edamame beans, octopus balls (my favourites, delicious) prawn toasts. For mains we had the eggplant which which was ever so slightly undercooked but still good, salmon, duck and more tuna. No room for dessert but will return asap. Our server was lovely; so accommodating and friendly, she really contributed to our enjoyment of the evening. The wine was an Alsace pinot gris - I wish I could remember the label as I'd love to buy it. It was a work dinner and the atmosphere was just right after an intense day. Recommended.

We had a set menu dinner for 8 people last night before we went a show. <br/>It was the first time 7 of us had eaten here and the food and service was excellent. <br/>I would recommend dragonfly to anyone for a great dining experience.

We visited Dragon fly on a Friday, since we couldn't get a reservation sat at the back side garden bar. Thank God for not booking a table in advance. Loved the ambience @ the garden bar. Cocktails are OSM and I ordered "Crouching Tiger" twice.. which was yummilicious! Each n every entree and mains that we ordered were simply divine. All in all a superb experience- Good food and great service. Will definitely go there again.

We visited Dragonfly on a Friday with a deal voucher - in our case the voucher was passed on from a good friend who managed to book his holiday before he could use the voucher - fantastic for us as we were keen to try.<br/>We turned up about 6:50 (voucher needed to be used by 7) and after getting past the entry point where there were apologies being made to the people in front of us for booking mix ups - we were told to go to the back into the bar area. Walking through the restaurant was pleasant - I did not realise it was so long!, and it was pretty busy. We were greeted by one of the bar staff, who did a fantastic job of explaining what was covered by the voucher - he found us a table in the bar area - he was great. It was a busy night, and there is a lot of noise in the bar area - but that's OK, its a bar.<br/>Part of the deal we had was 4 drinks (which sav / pinot was fine, but no chardonnay or other choices for wine available) and a "platter" of snack foods. Up to this point we were happy, but this is where is started to go downhill.<br/>Our drinks arrived, all 4 at once ... but thats OK (it was a platter for 4) and the platter arrived, a selection of food in a large steaming basket. We don't know what it was, it was just dumped there, no explanation ..... we can figure out edamame beans, some dumplings, some other balls with mayo, some chicken (I think - it is dark) things and some prawn crackers. I have no idea what we were eating in some cases, it was best guess. The balls with Mayo .. who knows, the dumplings were burnt and there was a large gristle/bone piece in one, the chicken (I think it was chicken) was coated in a batter/breadcrumb but it was badly burnt. The prawn crackers and edamame beans were fine, but overall the food was very disappointing. <br/>The whole aim of the voucher system is to get people in without having to shed a wallet full of cash and convince them to comeback ! This failed so badly.<br/>I can't comment on the main dining area and I don't want this to just be a complaint session - I am sure (as judged by there many happy people) they can do well, perhaps this was the wrong time and place for us.
Jennifer Gittings
Seven of us dined at Dragonfly on Saturday night it was outstanding food the flavours were just delicious every single entree and main that we ordered was shared and eaten entirely and everyone commented on the outstanding use and blends of the spices . We had great service and the beverage menu was very very good. We had nothing to fault the place on the atmosphere in the restaurant was very enjoyable and then out the back is a real surprise with a really great bar where I am sure some fun nights could be had. We will be back and cant wait.
Allanah Barr
Great venue, great atmosphere.<br/>Service was great - very attentive.<br/>The food was amazing... salmon two ways with the green banana slices- delicious. <br/>I rate this place very highly and will be back soon!<br/><br/>Thank you for the great evening.
Gavin Knight
the food was excellent, and so was the ambience<br/><br/>it was great see variety in a drinks menu including some interesting wines and some craft beers<br/><br/>always pleasant to receive good service too<br/><br/>and nice to be able to book via menumania

Came to dragonfly for a work function - the interior decor is absolutely stunning and makes for a great atmosphere. Was very impressed and could not help admiring my surroundings for the entire night.<br/><br/>The Beijing Bellini was quite delightful with a touch of lychee - very nice south east asian feel to it. Food was pretty average - nothing to shout about. Can be made easily at home. The price you pay i guess is mainly for the decor and atmosphere which is great!<br/><br/>Overall great place for a work function!

We had a delicious meal at Dragonfly on Saturday night. Chris the maitre d' was professional, attentive and friendly and ensured that we were well looked after. After some delicious cocktails in the bar we were taken to our table. The three of us started with the yellow fin tuna, which was 'to die for', tasty and melted in your mouth. I love my sauces so I ordered a couple of side sauces which added an extra zing to the dish flavours. We then had the calamari which was cooked to perfection and the steamed prawn shumai - the flavours were just exquisite. And the asian greens were fresh and tasty. Our waitress was also lovely and friendly and nothing was too much! The atmosphere is warm, vibrant and funky! I highly recommend dragonfly for it's delicious food, friendly staff and funky atmosphere - I can't wait to go back!
Michelle Veisaku
The restaurant is lovely and the staff friendly. I had the tofu as a main which I didn't enjoy at all - it was a very strange flavour and very buttery. My friend enjoyed her pork and prawn dish as well as her chicken ribs entree. It is very noisy so not a place to go if you are after a quiet bite to eat or a romantic meal. Overall disappointing- especially since I had heard such good things!
Bridget Marchant
Dragonfly was a bad experience for us, quite unbelievably bad. No one was there to greet us on arrival, even though there is a gorgeous reception area fit for a full time matradee there was no matradee to be seen. The staff were incompetent, the serving bowls were cold, the drinks were half an hour to arrive &amp; half an hour to be taken as orders, one of our mains was luke warm &amp; was sent back, when it arrived back we were dumbfounded to discover under the one piece of beef were bones, bones, mainly bones. Unbelievable. The fish on the menu wasn't available so chicken was ordered as a substitute, the chicken couldn't have been more unappealing on arrival, one piece of tough chicken cut up into 3 pieces with 5 green salad leaves and carrot sticks (they reminded me of quick carrot pieces I cut up for the children's lunches when I'm desperate, worse, worse that that.) The chicken was inedible. We were all wanting to salvage the situation &amp; try to have a positive dining experience, I played up my eggplant &amp; we all agreed the sauce in the beef curry was tasty but the price of the mains, for what they were, defied belief. We could not have got out of there fast enough, the highest point of our evening was telling some incoming customers looking for a good time &amp; asking for our opinion of Dragonfly to turn around &amp; go somewhere else as fast as possible. I would expect that once all the hooha of Dragonfly has simmered down it will die a slow death, I think it is flying on the coat tails of Ancestral over the road &amp; I think we all secretly wished we had spent our much treasured night off together somewhere else.<br/><br/>UPDATE:<br/>Thank you for your reply Brent, I appreciate your explanation. I can assure you there is no agenda other than giving the public a review of our night out &amp; me having a need to vent as we were feeling very disappointed when we left on Saturday night. We were visitors from Nelson &amp; it was quite a treat for us to be going out for a meal. I am pleased to see almost everybody else who has reviewed Dragonfly has had a positive experience, I don't want to do any harm to your business and I would encourage people to experience it for themselves. <br/>I really don't want to discuss this any further Brent &amp; I genuinely wish you well for the future.

Came in expecting a fusion food menu but it was dominated by curry influences.<br/><br/>We ordered a bunch of starters including carpaccio, soft shell crab, dumplings, octopus balls, squid and spring rolls. The crab was excellent and the squid and octopus tasty but the carpaccio was smothered with salad with little meat.<br/><br/>The main course selection was very limited. We ordered the special fish (salmon), duck, beef ribs and pork and prawns. Most of the flavours were dominated by curry flavours and tended to blend into one. Of the mains the beef was clearly the best while the salmon was disappointing being cold and overcooked.<br/><br/>The meal cost nearly $300 which I didn't think was good value. We will not be returning.
Vicki Jackways
Very yummy and well cooked food - great flavours. Good wine list and the service is friendly and efficient - especially the guy at the front desk. Bar is cool and the outside area is most condusve to a great night.

food was great, only thing that slightly let it down was our waitress, don't know if it was a mid week thing, but I felt we were kind of annoying to her.<br/>Loved how we could thank the chefs on the way out. atmosphere was grand.
Tracy Logan
Had a great night @ Dragonfly - cool cocktail in the rear bar and sampled some interesting dishes recommended by the staff - look forward to next time soon.<br/>Tracy

Have eaten at Dragonfly before and had fantastic experience, meal delicious staff great. Returned because we had enjoyed it so much and took an out of town guest - sadly however this time felt let down, delayed service, long wait for meal staff not quite so on-to-it
Dale
I went to Dragonfly last night for the first time. Wow so enjoyed it. I didn't dine but sat outside in the area off the bar and the staff were very attentive and constantly asking us if we needed anything. We had some of the starters and they were delicious. The squid and the three cheese wontons were yummy. Will have to go back to try the restaurant. Loved the decor and ambience.
Mark Siladi
Those of you looking for a new spin on contemporary Asian need to go to Dragonfly. Service was very attentive, the dining room is style plus and the food will keep you coming back for more. We had the fish of the day (salmon), tofu (fabulous!), chicken for the kids. The wine list has single vineyard stuff so you just don't end up with Roaring Meg.<br/><br/>The bar and lounge out the back look quite cool but we weren't there to toast all night but looks like you could!
Marie Olvido
Me and my friends were visiting Wellington for just three days and happen to drop by Dragonfly. We ordered three mains, The Yellow Fin, Tofu, Pork and some desserts. All taste really great! Cooked perfectly. They were well presented and reasonably priced. Staff are very friendly from the start until you leave. Place is very clean and tidy. Nice ambiance. Great place for dinner dates!
Rhoda
My friends and I had dinner here last Tuesday, and all we can say is WE LOVE THIS PLACE - the food were just so amazing- yellow fin, tofu (this is one dish that we would like to have some more, this dish is just perfect!!), prawn and pork (awesome combination!!!), market fish (very clever for including slices of bananas, love it!!) <br/>Thank you for the staff who are accommodating and always smiling :-)<br/>The place is just wonderful. <br/>We will definitely go back.
BrendenH
Dined there early Saturday night. Place was busy and greeting was ok, we were seated without reservation, told we only had an hour, which was fine. Food is average, sauces were very sweet, chicken rib starter looked and tasted like it was from a supermarket freezer. Crab was ok. Chicken breast main was again very sweet but served with fresh salad, which was a relief. My partners eggplant was average.<br/>There is potential there, but it has not been realised as yet.
David B
We were extremely impressed by this restaurant. It looks cool - a lot of thought has gone into the design - and the service was excellent. There is a good range of wines by the glass and a much more impressive list by the bottle. And the food was outstanding - we started with yellow fin tuna and three cheese parcels, followed by snapper and eggplant dishes. The flavours are fresh and each dish was perfectly cooked. The tasting plate we shared for dessert - four different desserts in one - had really interesting flavours and was a perfect finish to the meal. We'll definitely be going back.
Paula
I had the same sort of experience as Crystal. Friends and I were in the bar on a Friday night, from about 4.30 onwards. Staff were not attentive at all, they would pick up your empty glass but not ask if you needed more. I had a tab though so didn't get asked to pay first which was good. The decor would be great - if they got rid of that dirty green tarp as a shelter! one of the staff had to keep emptying it of water as it pooled in one corner. And the bamboo on the back wall needs to be thicker, seeing the dirty wall behind it just wrecks the whole image.<br/>The place certainly needs some improvement and I can't say I'm itching to go back there.
Maggie Paul
Went here for dinner and had a great experience the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. We had for our first sharing experience the soft crab - this is truely divine a taste delight, along with the yellow fin tuna which was superb, dumplings - magnificant and the spring rolls all of these were simply divine. I opted for the clams for my main which is not a dish I would usually have but would definetly have this again, very nice. The angus curry, yep that was delightful also accompanied by the asian greens which were tasty and succulent. <br/>Now, if you want to have a fabulous experience where the hospitality is spot on look no further not to mention the food is of top quality - only downfall will be that this place will become so popluar you won't be able to get a table!!
Fiona Matthews
Crab absolutely gorgeous! Son in law eggs -a taste of Asia. Salmon main beautifully cooked and the duck was to die for! Sticky rice was the best we had tasted. A great addition to Wellington's restaurants. Perfect.
Crystal
One of the worst restaurants I have ever been to.<br/><br/>Went at around 9 on a Saturday night so it was quite busy and the girl sent us down the back to the bar. The decor was nice but we had to find out own table. Had to get back up to get drinks and get our own menus. <br/><br/>Quite possibly the most insulting thing was 15 minutes after making our order the waiter comes over and tells us we have to pay for our food before it would come out... Wtf??<br/><br/>That aside, the crab wasn't fresh, the carpaccio was sliced so thickly it was chewy in your mouth, the clams were half cooked and the spring rolls were over done. We were given no cutlery or napkins and the food was dumped on our table so fast we had to get up again and ask for some. They forgot water until the end of the meal as well.<br/><br/>When we left nobody said thanks for coming or goodbye either. While the fit out is amazing and beautiful I will definitely not be coming back here. It was really expensive and not worth it.
Helen Neni Dobson
Fantastic. Service, atmosphere and food were all fantastic. <br/>I had the clams which were delicious and super fresh with subtle flavours that complemented the shellfish. My friends had the pork and prawns, which was also wonderful and then the chick, again - fantastic. I cant wait to go back again
Lisa K
Popped in for an early meal.....very lovely decor, I had the eggplant main. STUNNNNING! will def. go again.
Andrea Jones
I went there for dinner last week. The interior is beautiful and intimate. I had the yellow fin tuna as an entree. It was fresh and cooked to perfection. <br/>I then had the chicken as a main which was nice but tasted my friends Eggplant salad and that was totally amazing. I have no idea what the flavours were but it reminded me of Asia so much.<br/>I had sticky rice pudding for dessert. Its so good I went back a few nights later just for dessert to have it again.<br/><br/>The bar out the back is a surprise as from the front you have no idea it is there. The garden by the bar seems to be quite sheltered from the Wellington wind. I'll be going back there again that's for sure.

I dinned here with my family while visiting my brother in Wellington. His friends had recommended this place so we thought we'd try it out. It was very busy when we arrived so it was a good thing we booked beforehand. The atmosphere inside was cozy & bustling, topped off with great interiors and dim lighting. The service was excellent; the waitresses were all very helpful, polite and professional, and our water glasses were never empty.<br/><br/>The design of the menus were so unique; they were simply square pieces of paper folder into an origami shape (see picture). I thought it was such a clever idea. We ordered the Spring Rolls to start, and also two glasses of their 'mystery wine', which were only $6 each. For mains, we ordered the octopus and squid, pork and prawn, red duck curry and salmon 2 ways; all to share. Finally for dessert, we got the Dragon Fly mini tasting dessert, which consisted of mini servings of ice-cream, creme brulee, a tart and custard. I must say, I really enjoyed every dish; the flavours complemented each other so well, and I loved the added fruit (such as pineapples and grapes) in some of the mains which added a nice sweet twist. My favourite dishes would probably have to be the spring rolls and duck curry (and dessert of course!).<br/><br/>Overall, it was a fabulous dining experience with great food and friendly service; highly recommended if you're ever in Wellington!
