Review Coene's Bar & Eatery - Wellington

Love this cafe!! The best cafe outlook over the harbour! Inside is awesome decor and very comfortable. On a summers day there is a balcony you can sit outside. Last time we went the tables outside were a bit rickerty but still comfortable and loved having a cup of coffee in the morning ☀️

Loved this yacht club ⛵ Drink choices for the happy hours were very limited. Food was lovely and so was the service and the gorgeous views. Loved the seating arrangements - booths, tables, outside etc. Very comfortable surroundings, not too badly priced

The burger special was excellent, the seafood chowder was great and it is a very deceptive dish. It doesn't look like much, but it is very filling.

Had a wonderful dinner here! We ordered fish (one friend and one sautéed with risotto) and both were excellent. We also had some local wine and beer which also were delicious. Staff were also friendly and accommodating. Would recommend!

We went on a wednesday for Lunch. The view, service and food were excellent. I had waffles and added sausages. The iced mocha was good too

Great service. Fairly generous portions. One of the best place to admire the harbour when enjoying a nice wine, or a cocktail, or a beer with some great dishes from the menu.

Lovely restaurant at the waterfront, with hearty meals and fast service. Great for families with kids. Located at the start of Oriental Parade, this is a great location to look out over the marina before or after a nice walk along the waterfront.

Had a fantastic brunch here. Super service and the presentation of the food was beautiful. Will definitely return.

An unexpected walk in gem. Will be a regular every Wellington visit now. Gorgeous food and perfect location.

The view & atmosphere were great. Our waitress did everything in her power to make us feel so welcomed. I'm visiting here from Texas, and I'd definitely recommend anyone to try out this location. As the food was very tasty.

Eggs Montreal with Salmon is great. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Open till 4pm a lot of options . Coffee is great as well. This is a very busy place which says it all

Delicious food! Worth every cent. I had the calamari and loved it, and also shared a bite of my husband's waffles, which were delicious too. A lovely view of the waterfront, and friendly professional service. What more could you want? :)

We were on a Lord of the Rings tour and this is where our guide took us for lunch. I had some excellent fish and chips, my wife had the crispy pork belly tacos and plena chips. Everything was very good! Highly recommend this place that is right on the water overlooking a marina with sailboats!

Good place to have brunch, lunch or anything else in oriental bay

Great food. It was lovely to sit outside.

I was the only person in there for breakfast which is always a worry…….the food was great, coffee was hot and staff were friendly and polite & it was all topped off with a great view of the Harbour. I would definitely recommend and will eat here again. Happy Travels!

We had a lovely lunch, a bonus was sitting at the open windows with a gorgeous view of the sunny marina. I was impressed with the Beef burger with double pattie, with a whiskey glaze. Served with a generous portion of chips. My other friends both had the Sirloin with salad, which they enjoyed. But one friend felt the meal needed some chips, or even a couple of small potatoes. Very nice, cheers 🙃

Quite disappointed with the food selection. They had endangered fish (whitebait) on the menu. All the fish was unsustainable actually. They also had very limited options for our vegetarian friends.
Ian De Terte
The service and the food was great. There were three items that were not available on the menu. Also the bread/toast that was served with the poached eggs was too hard. However everything else was great and we will go there again. I must say the view was amazing.

5 star food, drink, service and view at this awesome restaurant! It has one of the best views across oriental bag of the city and the decor inside is funky! Service was great from end to end and the food was delicious! We had the charcoal chicken burger and the fish and chips of the day, both were beautiful and the charcoal twist on the chicken burger was a unique touch. We also tried the mermaid and beetroot/turmeric latte, both which were delicious and left us wondering where we could buy the powders to remake at home. Wish we were in town longer to try out more of the menu and hang around for the $5 mimosas on saturdays!

Best waterfront restaurant in Wellington. Live the view from outside sitting area. Don’t remember the name of the fish I had but it was just amazing. A little bit expensive if you compare with other restaurants in the town but totally worth it.

I had the baked cauliflower and chicken dish minus the chilli. Great staff, great service and delicious food.
Nice setting over looking the water.

We went for dinner and the lamb burger and fish and fish and chips were good but a little disappointing. Unfortunately we found some of the beer on the menu was unavailable. The service was good. Overall it was just ok.

This place is stunning, loved the location and parking is very convenient.

I came to Coene’s to try their Mermaid Latte and Tumeric Latte! and I swear their Tumeric Latte is probably one of the best Tumeric lattes I have ever tried!
Top spot for brunch or dinner in town for the views it has to offer. I have been here for both dinner and brunch and I enjoyed it both times. I love the pasta dinner and the roasted cauliflower salad. I like the great range of choices of food especially for vegetarian options.
Epicurusfoodie
Beautiful view. Coffee was good - came with a milk bottle lolly - cute. I had the ham eggs benedict - thick ham which was delicious and potato rosti instead of a bun. Very good

My partner & I stumbled upon Coene’s recently while wandering around Oriental Parade & we were very impressed! In an ideal location over looking the marina & Wellington Harbour, Coene’s is the perfect place for a Saturday morning brunch while on holiday. Gorgeous, laid back, “boat shed” type decor, reasonably priced, delicious food, plus the breakfast martini is a must! Most of the staff were quite friendly. Overall, very impressed - would definitely recommend.

Lovely restaurant to dine in. Nice view from outside. We came for brunch and service was very welcoming. Partner ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered the poached eggs on toast with a few sides, every thing was cooked well. We were very happy with our meals and we look forward to trying out the dinner menu.

We had high hopes for this place when we arrived. The setting was great. Great views, high tables, booths, all nice. The food however was very average. Chowder was think and gluggy. Skirt steak was cold and tough. Tuatuas were over cooked and sauce was v salty. Service was good, but a bit inconsistent.

What a surprise! Just spotted this place driving around the harbour and we were treated to the tastiest share plates and delicious, inventive deserts. I mean...apple ice-cream...who knew how good that could be. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Highly recommend this place for an evening meal.

Used to not like but have really picked up their standard! Beautiful food and great service. The share deals are to die for! Good mix of flavours and heaps for everyone's different taste buds

We celebrated a very special birthday for my mum (80) on Saturday here. The service was excellent all the wait staff were absolutely lovely, efficient, friendly the food was devine, and the views ove rthe harbour spectacular. Thank you for making this celebration even more special.

Great bay view from the restaurant, very attentive and considerate staff members, and generally good food.
Tried this place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the customer experience has been consistently good. My friend (accurately speaking, his kid) broke his glass on one of my visits, and the staff even offered to cook newly just-delivered fish and chips for him, as glass debris might have gone in the dish. This simply shows these staff members are "trained" to take actions for customers. She didn't have to ask her superior for such offer, and I really liked the place's customer-first stand.

For the mood we were in was really awesome, great, fresh food, steak & fish'nchips a treat.staff friendly and knowledgeable. Def recommended

My family, friends and I recently celebrated my 60th birthday at Coene's. The management and staff were very accommodating with regards to the menu and pricing of food and drinks. The atmosphere was pleasant and staff was very welcoming. Our party included 20 adults and 6 children, with all members' food preferences catered for. I am very grateful for the care and attention given to us and would highly recommend them to anyone who is considering going somewhere for a special occasion.

Great coffee. Great service. View over the Harbour is excellent. Their cakes (any cakes) are yummmmm. As an aussie I reckon Wellington does have the best tasting coffee in the worls. I'lll be back.

Came here for lunch and got the Herb and Parmesan crumbed Chicken. It was decent, nothing to hype about. The portion for the dish was not large compared to price. The view, however, is beautiful especially on a sunny day. Very friendly service. Would return for brunch as a friend had recommended their brunch menu was better.

Coenes is a good restaurant, upmarket food styled nicely and quality flavours. However the interior doesn't reflect the price I find, it looks more like a cafe than fancy restaurant. I ordered the salmon which was delicious although satiating, not overly filling which was again nice however then it leads you to not passing on dessert (strategy? Who knows). Adam had fish and chips which he found to be good - not the best fish or chips but good, kiwi food and others all commented they enjoyed their meals however there was confusion as the waiter had said the fish was one kind and it turned out to be another. A bit misleading. The dessert again the orders were confused but they were good - the chocolate fix and Fogg was far better than the custard based dessert I had ordered which had a weird flavour integrated into it.

Probably wouldn't go back unless to try a brunch/lunch menu out as I don't think the food reflects the price - no matter how styled it is.

We had a family function for 21st Birthday here on Saturday night, very happy with this place. Everything was very organised, staff were friendly, food was yummy ~ nothing to complain about. Happy to recommend to others.

Great food best enjoyed sitting on the sunny balcony overlooking the marina. Have only been for brunch but intend to go back for dinner and cocktails.
Sally
Really nice place with amazing views and a lovely atmosphere. Very tastefully decorated with the funky entree plates matching the decor. Both the wait staff on our night were very helpful and friendly, and did that extra bit to make our night enjoyable. We shared the Crab and Crayfish Saigon rolls and each had a main of Coene's Fish and Chips and the Goat Cheese Souffle. There were 6 Crab and Crayfish Saigon rolls, which were a good mix of greens and meat. The Fish and chips were a good mix of taste without being greasy and the Goat Cheese Souffle was recommended by our Waitress. This was well worth the recommendation, and would be happy to eat again.

Great venue with amazing views and trendy décor. Decided on mains then the waitress asked if we wanted anything to nibble on as there wouold be a bit of a wait. The restaurant wasn’t crowded (I think she just said that to get us to spend more!). However we did order some flatbread with olives and chips to nibble while we waited. The chips were a bit oily but the flatbread was great with some cumin flavouring. My steak requested medium was served 1 medium and 1 medium rare but it was delicious anyway with nice veges to go with it. My friend enjoyed her salmon dish. Would definitely recommend coming here for dinner as the prices are great for a place with such great views. Will come back next time to try their brunch/lunch menu.

Amazing food and service. How do you make the chips so crunchy?? Tried the jerk chicken burger which was Devine. Will definitely come back.

Fabulous location!!! Our first visit a long time ago we had to wait a very long time for our food, however it was due to an oven breakdown and we were given complimentary mains to compensate. Since then it's been excellent across many visits, both menu, presentation and service wise. Outside hats and colourful sunglasses are provided, and the view is just fabulous.

Wellington on a plate menu. Truly disappointing day one of the festival. . Had run out of one of the mains and one of the desert options. Won't be back in a hurry.

A great location that looks out over the marina and city The space is modern and provides little tucked away places for privacy. Service is excellent. Coene's does sharing plates small and large, we had about a half dozen of the smaller ones.

The food is very rich and full of taste. I'm keen to go back and try the larger plates.

My food was wonderful, good service! Nice view and decoration, free wifi, good selection of wines and beers and friendly staff... Definitely I'll be back!

They have done out the place really well. It's great that finally there's a decent place along Oriental Bay you can go and just have a drink. We went there last week for dinner however and I was really disappointed. The food is done in sharing plate types meals so we ordered a fair few between the two of us but still left hungry. I initially ordered a flat bread to have first which was delicious and was the best thing we had. The waitress however did not seem to understand the concept of wanting something to start and everything was brought out way too quickly especially seen as I'd ordered everything else later. It was all so very rushed, we had our food before we even got to take a sip of our drinks. The place wasn't even very busy. For the sharing plates we got the cheese fondue which was fine. We also had the chicken skewers which my partner enjoyed but I thought were really bland and boring. My biggest disappointment with this place however was the bucket of prawns. We received 5 shelled medium sized prawns with 2 dips. When paying $15 for a "bucket" of prawns I expect more than 5 extremely average cold prawns which I could get a whole bag of at the supermarket for less than this price. It was just laughable. All in all I would most certainly return for a drink and recommend everyone go check out the setting for a drink and maybe a flat bread but I wouldn't bother with dinner.

Absolutely fantastic balcony and view! Food is fairly good, although vegetarian options for my friend a bit limited, and a bit lacking in flavour. Staff could use a little polishing up service wise, but they are pretty new, and hey they're nice. All up a brilliant spot to have a drink in the evening looking out over the boats.
