Review Charley Noble Eatery & Bar - Wellington

TheKidfoodie
Everything bout that place is awesome friendly waiters to constantly check on us and superb food. The lamb is a literal must try it’s one of the best lamb I had. The fat and meat has a perfect balance along the flavour simply divine. Beef flavour was a little smoky but the taste was not too bad. Fish n chips were very nice. Fish was very flavourful and the chips were crispy Lastly the pork belly. It is huge bigger than my hand lol. The apple and raspberry balances out the pork fat. It was also very tender.

Delicious and memorable meal! The lamb and beef were devine. Tasty dessert as well. A well executed dining experience on all fronts - food, cocktails, wines and friendly and helpful service. Would definitely make a return visit.

First time in a real restaurant for years, forgot how loud they are! Came here because my mate Celine recommended their steaks and we both forgot it was Friday night so even tho there was a 45m wait I enjoyed watching the food get made. I think it was worth it. Got the sirloin and some chips.

Excellent service , head straight from airport and the staff offer to store my luggage. The best lamb dish i ever had and i am not the lamb go to person .

Charley Noble is always an exquisite delight to visit, from the beautiful interior to the well informed wait staff. This was the Wild Venison and Kiwismash mocktail. The venison was devine, buttery and the accompaniment of the puree beetroot and chocolate sauce was like a slow perfectly timed waltz in my mouth.

We had a lovely time at Charley Noble, great food and a nice relaxing vibe. I would definitely come back for another steak! 🥩

We ate and had drinks here tonight and everything was wonderful we arrived early so had a drink at the bar before heading to our table the bartender, Jack was making lime juice and was enthusiastic to tell us his process as well as giving us a taste and even brought over some lemon juice for us to try at the table later in the night! (It was delicious and sustainable btw) our server was Ben and he was absolutely wonderful throughout the night very attentive, professional but kind and friendly. The food was beautiful and the drinks were too especially the negroni I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a lovely night out!

Wow, I can't believe how good the Scotch Fillet (medium rare with peppercorn sauce) at Charley Noble's was. Not only that, the tempura oysters too. Everything his is soooo good. the service, the buzz, the setting, it all just works. Stella and Cathy totally looked after us so no doubt we will be back!

We had a lovely dinner, both had the eye fillet and it was delicious, melt in your mouth type of delicious. The peas had bacon and parmesan through them, they were crunchy, a little salty but just yummy. James was our server for the evening and he was the best, kept us laughing, made a great pitch for the menu (had answers for majority of the things we asked) and bonus he introduced me to a really good Pinot Noir. Shout out to burn cottage, i am your newest fan! We finished the night with the Tarte Tartin to share and it was the perfect size to share for two. It was the perfect temperature no resistance when sliced so cooked through really well and not too sweet, just yummy! We really enjoyed our evening the atmosphere was vibrant a great mix of a crowd, the food spectacular and the service was excellent!

Excellent food and atmosphere. Open kitchen and unique experience.

Didn't make dinner reservation, but the staff was really nice. We came back after an hour and viola!!.. Ordered the steak and fries and it was beautifully done. Staff were also very nice and was attentive to our needs. Definitely must try if you are in Wellington

Dinner was exceptional. Every morsel a delight. Atmosphere was fun and energetic. Stella, our server, was pleasant and attentive, everyone on staff helped each other out. It was a great experience and a fun place.

Perfect! The waiter was amazing! Ambers service was top notch. We were well looked after, she got our orders correct and even remembered who ordered what. The food was incredible, so flavoursome and cooked to perfection. My only complaint was it was really hot in the restaurant. But definitely will be going back again!!

Amazing food! Great ambience! Lovely presentation skills of the food! Just for the service part - piece of advise - no matter how busy, stressful, annoying and exhausting this job can get, some staff need to keep their cool with their colleagues, they also need to keep showing their superb warm smiles and not showcase their snobbish attitude just because it’s a restaurant in the heart of the city, heavily priced and is visited by the usual crowd from the five star hotels, prime customers from the parliament and so on.
Mia
Just amazing! Located in town, this restaurant is an institution in Wellington. Service is great, place is big and beautiful (a bit noisy, but I guess its part of the atmosphere) and the food is AMAZING! Kids loved their meals as much as the adults. It's great for just 1 person o big groups. Highly recommended!
Sarah Thomas
The food is delicious. It’s so much more than just a steakhouse. Every bite of food was sensational, the flavours were melt in your mouth good. The service was amazing, friendly, attentive and added to the wonderful atmosphere. I also thought the prices were very reasonable for what you got. Big fan, will definitely be back
Jarrod Van Berkel
Very decent 'casual fine dining' I'd call it. Prices fair for the quality of what you get and the service from wait staff was great, special shout out to Ben who ran us through the specials and looked after us for the night. There are only a handful of cocktails on the menu but it says 'Classics always available' so we ordered Mojito, Spicy Margs and Moscow Mules which was no issue. Charly Noble burger is nice but comes with a very sweet bun, almost like a muffin flavour if that's your thing you'll love it. For dessert highly recommend the chocolate torte 🤌
Josie Cochrane
My favourite restaurant ever! Amazing food, flawless service, and always such a beautiful vibe. The artichoke bruschetta and apple tart cannot be missed!
Adam Gootkin
Lovely meal here, restaurant is in a beautiful building, lovely staff and great service. Food was great. Union Pacific cocktail was lovey but the baldwin cocktail was quite unbearably strong. Maybe it’s just an acquired taste but I would not order it again.

Amazing <br/>Service was unquestionably the best we've experienced for a long time <br/>The flavours of the food was excellent <br/>The portions just right. <br/>Must experience
Kate.mcpherson123
Had the bruschetta to start which was delicious and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a light entre. The pork for a main was disappointing and not as expected and was very sweet.

It was my first time in Wellington and I found the place on Zomato. Decided to try it and as soon as I got in, the manager (i think) greeted me. The servers were nice and I loved that I could see the kitchen. Decided on mushroom risotto and seafood chowder. I loved them both just less potatoes on the chowder. Will definitely recommend the place to everyone I know.

Exceptional food, service and wine! Every dish ordered was met with food envy from our table of 6! All photos taken on old phone that died unfortunately but I had the house hot pie with a side of fries and truffle aioli to die for and it was very tasty! Presentation of all meals superb. <br/>Must go back to have breakfast next time I’m in Wellington.
Ian Soong
Over priced and too small portion. Recommended by a friend to come here, ordered a small Rabbit Ravioli on the menu for lunch, price was $22, only comes with 2 small pices of ravioli. Disappointed with the price and portion.

Charley Noble has been recommended as an out of towner by quite a few people. Food was top notch and the service too. Drinks menu is pretty extensive. Fries, Arancini, Venison rump, Beef cheek, Petits fours. All very good. Would love to come back
Kate Williamson
Had a good business lunch here. Arancini balls were a highlight. Good beer and wine selection. No chicken on the menu which a few of us thought was weird. Very little choice if you don't fancy steak or fish. Ended up with blue cheese ravioli which unfortunately was a bit thick and chewy. Coffee was good served with homemade marshmallow.
FOOD Wars
I had the duck and it was delish! Great atmosphere, eventhough it was quite busy it was quieter than most busy restaurants. My dessert; while nice....just was weird. It had funny textures and flavours. Some sort of trifle.
Amit Tuteja
My daughter and I had an excellent meal. Oysters were fresh and juicy. The bruschetta with goats cheese was different but tasty. The star of the evening though was the Lamb shoulder, tender and juicy. Would have given them 5 stars if I had got my pre dinner drinks on time (they arrived after my mains had been served). The manager did offer us a hefty discount to make up for it. But I’d have really enjoyed a nice glass of NZ wine with my meal.
Yue Zhang
They have the BEST TRUFFLE FRIES!crunchy but light, sauces are also delicious! aged steak also great, medium is just right with no blood! Will revisit for sure
Seamus
Lovely spot. Didn’t know it was there to be honest but after having a lovely brekky, with attentive and friendly service will absolutely be back. Can’t wait to try the sinner menu!!! <br/>

Lovely dinner in Wellington, see they have won awards for the last few years, nice building and atmosphere loved the grilled tuna, might go for breakfast this am

Very popular eatery/bar based in a lovely old building near the wharf. Happy to prop at the bar until table was ready (quick at 10 mins considering how busy it was). Delicious pasta had by both of us & a great choice of wines. Helpful & friendly waitress (with green hair) who gave further tips on places to see.
Luke Thomson
Great food and a warm group of happy inviting wait staff, even if the waiter was a little preoccupied at first.<br/>The pot pie I had tasted well seasoned and mix flavours that were superb. <br/>Atmosphere was sublime with such a vibe for a Monday evening <br/>Excellent wine selection, throughly enjoyed the evening <br/>

This is one of our favourite restaurants in Wellington. Been here a number of times and food is consistently good except one time the oysters were not as fresh as we would’ve liked. The service is always friendly and helpful.
Christine Olson
Great ambiance and space. We ordered a burger and beer for WOAP. The food came out and was good, but we never got our beers. They started clearing our plates when we still had food on them and were eating.

My last meal in Wellington was with my son here for lunch. The staff were very friendly and didn’t have any problems answering my questions regarding the best pasta dish to try.<br/><br/>The lovely staff recommended their spaghetti with clams, chilli oil, chorizo and my request for the broccoli cooked well done for my son was not a problem. My son had the spaghetti bolognese from their children’s menu which came with a salad of greens and dessert of vanilla bean ice cream which he really enjoyed ($20 for 2 courses).<br/><br/>The pastas were cooked perfectly and I really enjoyed my lunch here with the wonderful staff and lively atmosphere.
Jess
The menu is huge. We didn’t order much starters. Instead I ordered two mains for myself, loved both spaghetti and ravioli. I am a pasta person and their house made pasta were delicious! You could tell the chef has put in so much thoughts into these dishes. Mum had the whole lemon sole and it was cooked to perfection. Our wait person was very professional, he returned a couple of times to check how everything was and if we need more drinks. Next time I am in town I am going to try their signature burger.

We’ve been a few times and this restaurant has become our benchmark. Nowhere else measures up to the incredible food, professional but not fussy service and the cool, metropolitan atmosphere. Outstanding, highly recommended.
Bruce Mackintosh
Very popular place. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Very good food and great presentation. All four of us were impressed. Keep up the great service.
Bonnie Emma
Had dinner here last Friday and it was a great experience. Staff were very polite and accommodating. The restaurant was full but they seated us at the raw bar which looks into the kitchen. This was a buzz of activity. Being a big foodie it was such an awesome experience to have front row seats. Price was great for what we got. Only downside was the cabbage served with my duck main was very strong and overpowering, having less on the plate or toning the intensity down would have been perfect. <br/><br/>Overall a great experience. Would give a 4.5 if I could.

My friend and I landed in Wellington super late after a super rocky flight and we just wanted to find a restaurant that was still open that did decent food and that’s how we stumbled across this place! I got the risotto and he got the fish and chips. My risotto was very good! The flavours and textures were perfect, however I did find it a bit salty. Nevertheless, it was creamy and yummy and just perfect after a long day :) the restaurant itself was very nice and had a good feeling to it. The staff were also very accomodating!

Had dinner with family at this restaurant last night.  The food was divine.  Ravioli was to die for, sirloin and eye fillet steaks beautifully cooked, fish and chips exceptional, pavlova perfect with the plum compote divine (could have eaten a bowl of the plum compote by itself). Staff were awesome and friendly and not intrusive.  Price for 5 people was very reasonable.  Would definitely eat here again and highly recommend Charley Noble to all Wellingtonians and visitors.

If you’re looking to enjoy world-class dining with quality New Zealand produce while you’re in the Land of the Long White Cloud, then you’re in luck. Charley Noble in Wellington has long held a reputation for being one of the best restaurants around and if my dining experience was anything to go by, it certainly holds up to its name.
Sally
One of the best meals out I've had in a while. The wait staff were all friendly, helpful and good at their job, even the people out the back seemed to be enjoying their night. The place was busy, but our meals came out to us a lot faster than I anticipated and were beautifully presented. We shared the House Smoked potted Salmon and were given the option of having it as a starter or as a side with our mains, which was a nice touch and appreciated. We also chose the Ravioli and Charley Noble burger for Mains. The Ravioli was one of the nicest I have eaten, and the burger didn't stay long on the plate either. The burger was served medium rare (the best way) but it was double checked with us that we were ok with this. We also ordered the strawberry and Rhubarb Tart, and the Yoghurt Panna Cotta. Both I would recommend. Really good meal.

Wonderful dinner with fantastic food and an even better waitress. Too full to try dessert but the pork belly was delicious! Excellent fries as well.

This restaurant already on my "Wellington must go list." I wish I can try all the drinks and foods that on the menu. The ambience of the restaurant is excellent; I can stay there and chat with my friend for a whole night.

We both had options from the create your own selection for breakfast and the food was excellent and quick to come. We will definitely remember this for the next trip

I wanted to like Charlie Noble! Visited for WOAP and was unimpressed with the burger. Service was great! I Will try again, but unfortunately I am not in a rush.

Good for you (ladies) if you are looking for posh ambience to have your dinner. Opened the door and you will be greeted by waiters who unbuttoned the top button of their shirt.....this completely sent my female colleagues into "awwww-he's-so-hot" reaction. Doesn't work for guys like me though 😁 Foodwise was average. Fettucine was normal, nothing especially stands out. The truffle bread was average too..... recommended for ladies who wanna see waiter with one top button undone....😜 sssh don't tell your partner or husband.

Lunch here today. Wine selection was great, gluten free options were plentiful and the service was faultless. The food was super tasty. I wouldn't usually opt for a vege option but after today's meal I would highly recommend the cauliflower steak. Smoked salmon pot was delicious too. Next time we'll have to save room for dessert as the sweets on the surrounding tables looked flipping fantastic. Cheers!

Friday lunch, the amount of people that swarm this place is amazing, the rate in which tables are turned over exceeds expectations yet every table is taken care of with equal or greater importance. My only let down with Charley's is with the portion sizes and the price in which is being charged. But hey its delicious and I can't complain, keepin doing the goods.

We went for a family birthday recwntly.<br/>Oysters and steak was delish! Love their watermelon juice. So refeeshing!<br/>Casual dining and the staff was friendly and helpful. <br/>Entrees were quite filling itself and main meals were shared. It qas quite a huge meal.<br/>We ordered bluff oysters but unfortunately were sold out so the chef did a special deal with waiheke oysters which were so delicious!

Have been here for several times and every each time was so amazing. The service here is friendly and the dishes are really good. Ordered the Charley Noble burger and it's quite juicy. The bacon provides some smokey taste, but not oily at all. Definitely recommend and definitely will come back.
Jimon007
Went there several times and tried its signature burger. Large portion so I never finished. Always many people and nice atmosphere. Food is OK. I mean okay. Not the best - I can confidently tell you you can find many places in Wellington to enjoy better food with the same money. Worth to visit once or two. That's all. Quite forgettable and in fact I forgot about it. I pass on this. If anyone ask me whether I would recommend it to anyone. I would say... "mmmmmm i don't know.. Food is not bad and can be expensive so only if you want....." Am I being too frank?

When prepping to go to Charley Noble, every time I mentioned it, I was met with a "oh I love that place" or "I really want to go there". As you can imagine, I had high expectations.<br/><br/>I am gluten free so the fact they have a whole menu for us g.f. folk is great. Makes ordering a lot easier and less awkward.<br/><br/>The food was beautiful. Unlike fine dining places, the portions are huge so I skipped the entree so I could have dessert. If you're not a massive eater at home, I would suggest doing the same as fitting in three courses may be a mission.<br/><br/>The service was great. We had a lovely waitress on a work visa from Michigan. She was great to chat and have a laugh with. Water glasses were always full, empty plates were cleared quickly and you always feel like someone is keeping an eye on you to check you're OK.<br/><br/>The beer was a bit on the pricey side for the size but I guess that means they won't get any riff raff.<br/>The decor is New stl.<br/><br/>Only criticism I have is not being able to book a table in advance but I do understand how it will create additional revenue so people sitting at the bar when waiting for a table...I just like to be organised and have places booked!
Anonny Moose
LOVED the menu, especially the raw bar. Outstanding wood-fire steak and seafood, ridiculously fresh produce and gorgeous flavours, brilliant beverage list, and wonderful service made for a really memorable first visit. The only negative - and it's a big one: the huge dining room is so packed with tables, the noise level is extremely challenging. This is not somewhere you would choose if you want to celebrate a special occasion or have a civilised conversation, which is really disappointing given the menu and price point. We also had to complete with a nearby table of rather intoxicated adults all shouting at each other to be heard, and a loud Canadian woman with a voice like a chainsaw. Not the restaurant's fault but some soft surfaces/furnishings to absorb the noise would go a long way. Otherwise we would have given CN 5.
Theo
Great place, service and food. Always a go-to for a decent dinner- try and sit along the raw bar looking into the kitchen if dining as a couple really adds to the night
Hephaestia
Food was amazing!<br/><br/>Staff were friendly, but a bit hit and miss. Half the table got cutlery/ plates and the other half had to ask where theirs was...? Similar with water, had to ask for top ups several times before the pouring became consistent.<br/><br/>100% would go back for a treat, tough!
Rebecca MacDonald
We grabbed dinner here on a Friday night and it was busy. You should definitely book! The food was awesome I loved my burger, great flavours and super filling!
Ken Romeril
Went there last week and got a table straight away. The service from a visiting Young man from<br/>France was personal and attentive. Excellent lamb shoulder and divine cauliflower dish . Great night.
Troy
Went here for Wellington on a plate and they served up an ice cream in a cone for desert. No mention in the menu of a cone ice cream and I'm not 4 years old or standing at the Wendy's counter. Self indulgent and pretentious and spoilt my night. Neither of the two WOAP mains were particularly enjoyable and the zany Zeus feta was the highlight of an average main dish that consisted of a turkey breast accompanied by an overload of broccoli.
Ronald Blunt
One of Wellingtons standout venues, food is always of a high standard and very tasty. Service normally to match. It has fast become the place to go..
Auckland Food Tours
I have wanted to eat here for a while but had been put off by the no reservations policy. As it turned out the place is large and there was no trouble getting a table.  The service was mostly good, a slight hiccup when our order went to another table, but it was sorted out fairly promptly.<br/>I had the home made pasta with prawns and a light  tomato with chili sauce, it was superb, my companion had the prawns that were also pronounced superb.<br/>I would definitely go back as the food was outstanding, and despite being a large room you could opt for a booth and have a fairly intimate meal. The drinks list was extensive but we were disappointed to find that the headline cocktail was unavailable.
Stefan Thieu
Great service, good wine list, a menu with good variety and one of the best steaks in town. Tonight I started with bluff oysters, followed by the ribeye with a side of truffle fries (perfect combo) and finished with a strawberry soft serve in a waffle cone. Great meal at one of the best restaurants in Wellington.
Shannon T
Excellent service, very attentive, patient wait staff and comfortable atmosphere. Similarly excellent wine menu and the house made sourdough we had for a starter was divine I could have eaten a whole loaf 😍 My only disappointment was in regards to my main (ravioli) and I can't overlook it because it made me feel icky 😁. Don't get me wrong, I love a good burnt butter sauce as much as the next geezer but I'm not sure the sauce was caramelised enough because combined with the cheese and croutons it was all quite fatty! Although the ravioli itself aside from the toppings was delish and perfectly cooked. It's worth mentioning the portion I ordered was a large and I'd hate to think what the medium is!! Thank god for a side dish of mashed spuds! Dessert of Irish coffee was nice although a little weak for $15 worth of beverage, hit me with that shot of booze people 😛 The foundations/makings of an awesome restaurant!
FoodisAwesome
Visited in early May 2016. French waiter had been in NZ for 1 month. Amazing service! Food was incredible. Great to see such an open kitchen. A pure delight. Serrious props to the waiter!

Returned back to my old home (and favourite city!) Wellington for a few days so decided to try out a new-ish eatery in the city after hearing lots of great reviews.<br/><br/>An interesting space; located inside an old bank building, the restaurant was nice but lacked that high end ambience probably due to the windows being open (it was a cold night) and no candles or anything to make it feel warm and intimate. <br/><br/>Service seemed a bit hit and miss from the get go. We were given menus (but not explained the specials, fish of the day etc) and had our drinks order taken after our food order. Seemed disjointed and a bit disorganised - I also noticed that there were probably double the staff to customer ratio despite our earlier dining time. Still, staff were pleasant and happy to help.<br/><br/>I ordered the scotch fillet - rare, with cafe de Paris butter. As it came as meat only, I selected a separate side of brussel sprouts which came with ginger/maple glaze and bacon. <br/><br/>When the food arrived, I was instantly pleased that the chef had cooked the steak rare - and perfectly. So many times I find that perfect rare steak illusive. It always seems medium or the opposite, borderline blue. The steak at CN was perfectly rare and delicious. The cafe de Paris butter however, was disappointing. The flavour of curry powder was so overpowering that I ended up scraping it off - what should have been a nice complement just didn't work. <br/><br/>The sprouts were pleasant - not as good as the Depot (Auckland) sprout dish but tasty. I didn't get much taste of the maple or ginger but it was a good side accompaniment to the steak. <br/><br/>My disappointment however would be that for a steak at $38 and a side at $7-9 - at a total of $47 for a main, every element should be perfectly executed and delightful including top notch service, ambience and even perhaps serve bread/butter beforehand like many high end establishments do. <br/><br/>CN fell slightly short in my expectations due to this - nice, but for that price needs to do a little more. Bravo on the perfectly cooked steak though!<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>
Linshiqin829
Yummy yummy!!! Absolutely 5 for this one!!!! Highly recommend this!!!! The crab bisque is really delicious, it's not like a soup, the flavor is so nice. For the lamb shoulder, the sauce for that is sweet, but it can balance the flavor of the lamb. The tiger prawns seasoning very well. I really have a good time in here.

Visiting from Melbourne, our party of four were very underwhelmed by our dinner experience here last Friday night. The service was almost non-existent - having to ask to have our water glasses refilled shouldn't be necessary. The menu offered a good range of options and the starters (such as my bruschetta) were fine - without being very innovative or memorable. Two of our group had 'aged' sirloin steaks for mains which were  grisly and certainly not the tender piece of age beef we expected for the premium $38 price tag. To add to the disappointment we then had to order sides at $9 each. Surely its not too much to ask to expect some modest accompaniments when paying a premium price for essentially a 300g slab of meat? At least the Turkish delight for desert was a tasty finish but I won't be rushing back . Great location and good vibe but Charley Noble should do much better.
Sjmc
Charley noble is one of my favorite places to go in Wellington. Their arancini balls are fantastic. Service is great. All round great place.
Christopher Shaw
Our entree and main course meet our expectations for the night. However all bar one the waitering staff were terrible, our beer and cocktails of choice were unavailable and the dessert was an absolute disappointment. Would not go back or recommend to anyone.
James Cole
Fine dining experience that was very nice. The flavours were great, the service was excellent and the menu would cater to all tastes. It was fairly packed and the tables were a little close together but otherwise I'd recommend for an enjoyable meal. A good vent for a work dinner.
Lezel Botha
Amazing place. A friend and I really wanted pork belly with crackling and found this place through Zomato. Every single staff member we interacted with were friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was a good one. The pork belly was amazing. All the flavours went perfectly with each other and the crackling was the best I've had. We had the strawberry tart to finish which was also delicious with a perfect shortcrust pastry. Both bar staff and our waitress let us taste wines to find the perfect one for a glass, which was an experience I haven't been offered before and was truly appreciated.
Vicki Wong
Great service and food here. Have been here on a handful of occassions and on the last one came for dessert after wow because it was right across the road. Excellent desserts. We ordered the frozen torrone, profiteroles and summer bery trifle which were all decadent and very satisfying.
Lily_nz80
Many people have recommended coming here for dinner so we finally did on a Sat evening in early January and were able to get a seat. The restaurant was really busy but the service was pretty quick. I asked for sparkling water and my partner a tap water. Out comes a 750ml bottle! Often waitresses will let you know the size if it’s only 1 of you drinking it but this waitress didn’t. Had I known, I would’ve ordered something more exciting than spend $11 on a bottle of water as they had some interesting non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. This was more than an alcoholic drink! I ordered a small size of the duck ragu pappardelle which was tasty but not amazing for the price you pay. My partner enjoyed his steak with béarnaise sauce. They said they would bring out a selection of mustards to go with the steak but this never arrived. We shared a sesame slaw which was really tasty and had an orange flavour to the dressing and some chips with aioli which were nice but not as good as they could’ve been. Overall, not as great as I was expecting.

Just had a grey night out, the food was amazing and the service was good and friendly.<br/>Went for dinner with another couple, was worried at the start as it took a while for he waitress to come and get our drinks order, but after that things were great. It was so nice that the staff knew who had order what - to tired of paying high prices for poor service. All of us enjoyed our food, each dish was cooked well and presented beautifully. Timing was good - enough time between course but not to much. <br/><br/>Want to have a relax night out with friends I highly recommend Charley Noble.

Very accommodating staff. Good service<br/> Sirloin was the best i have had in New Zealand. My wife's Pumpkin Ravioli with Ameretti was simply divine.

An early dinner for two after a long day. We were seated quickly despite a full bar. A delectable red was suggested by the friendly waitress and eagerly taken up on a cold Wellington evening. The entrees arrived quickly but not before the after work drink was savoured. Superb pumpkin ravioli with amaretto pine nuts and burnt butter sauce. The amaretto added a delicious dimension. The fried sage and pine nuts gave a fabulous textural element. Every mouthful perfectly balanced. Mr C declared the chicken sausage and mushroom risotto rich and flavoursome. Steak with pepper sauce came next. Tender and beautifully seared. The sauce smooth and rich but perhaps lacked a little punch. Delicious asparagus with hazel nuts. Needed a little acidity which I stole from the husband's tomato and basil salad (a little heavy on the oil a little more acidity would have been better). Mr C's battered fish fresh, but a little plain. Great service attentive and friendly. Would definitely go again and hopefully soon.

This was an incredible dinning experience. The food was full of flavour, beautifully presented and the perfect portion size to savour and enjoy. This place has a deservedly amazing reputation and is perfect for a celebration dinner like the one we went on. We were seated quickly and fortunately so as well as it was apparent there was a large volume of people waiting, a great sign the place is popular. What impressed me was the speed at which the moved the customers from waiting and to a table as I didn't notice any major waiting times and looking down to the waiting area there was a consistent stream of fresh faces. The food came in great time and the wait staff were friendly and attentive to our needs and requests even entertaining us by being well informed of the food and the restaurant itself, they had the courtesy to keep us updated on how far our food would be and were great on offering us drinks while waiting. The meals themselves were masterpieces. The fish market medley, Pork Belly, Lamb shoulder and Prawn spaghetti were the dishes. Each amazing seasoned and flavoured the market medley was especially good. An incredible dinning experience.

simply beautiful delight. <br/><br/>Welcoming staff. Warm Atmosphere. Real tasty foods. Nice bar. Organized set up. Only thing disappointed me was there was no seats next to their awesome open kitchen. <br/><br/>We ordered prawn & crab bisque with brandy cream with breads on side, woodfire grilled lamb shoulder, and their BLACK charley noble burger. <br/><br/>Prawn & crab bisque with brandy cream. Strong crab and prawn taste with little bit smoke flavor. Consistency is perfect. Melt in our mouth. With bread. My gosh. We still talking about this dish the following day with our chef friends. <br/><br/>Charley noble burger. Pickles, patty, buns, sauce. Every single things on that place kept pleasing us. We were actually so full already when we half way through. But we managed to kill it all. Cuz we will never waste such a a good burger. Chips been taken care well too. <br/><br/>Woodfire grilled lamb shoulder. Pickle in the bottom with perfectly cooked sliced lamb shoulder meat on top. Finished with yogurt and garnish. Sided with pumpkin sauce garnished with pumpkin seeds. Talented dish. Beautiful presentation. Balanced so well on plate. Heavy meat with tiny bit sweet & sour pickles and yogurt. Creamy sauce with crispy roasted seeds. Nice. <br/><br/>But we ordered coffee latte. Honestly, coffee really needs to be improved. Very average. No presentation. Milk emollience is just ok. <br/><br/>I will definitely come back and introduce this restaurant to all my friends.

Amazing restaurant.<br/>loved the fresh food, drinks that complemented the dishes unbelievably well, bustling atmosphere, friendly service and knowledgeable staff. The open kitchen adds a level of professionalism and honesty as well as style to the modern yet classy decor. <br/>Cannot fault the extensive drinks list nor the food menu. Loved our choices in dishes - the fresh oysters and cured salmon for entree which were light and refreshing. Market fish and Lamb shoulder for mains, which were denser with bolder flavours and on point! The presentation as well as flavours were perfect.<br/>Cannot wait to go back and try the other dishes, although I don't know if I can help myself from not ordering the market fish again. 5/5.<br/>Thank you for having us :)
Neat Eats
Went here on Thursday night not realising WOW was on across the road. Got there just before 6pm and scored the last table. Service was very friendly, no attitude, just decent and genuine service. I had pappardelle with duck ragu which was lovely. My cousin had snapper with mussels and clams - she said it was really nice. Didn't have dessert - couldn't fit it in after the pasta but had a look at the menu, it all looked nice enough. Nothing there to make me change my mind and try to squeeze it in though. We each had 2 glasses of wine (Greywacke Chardonnay and an Argentinean Malbec) and a coffee and total bill came to $120 which I thought was really good for the buzzing atmosphere, good service and quality of food. The only thing I would change was the configuration of the tables - wait staff constantly weaving their way around us and even colliding with each other as they move about. Felt like we were kind of in the way of where they needed to go. Maybe just our table of 2 (up the back near the bar).

I love this place. Original menus with very fresh food, the steaks are amazing although expensive. Recomend the arancini and the pigs tail salad.

Had the Wellington on a plate menu, 2 courses and a drink for $35. Everything was well presented and delicious and bought out in a timely fashion. Just loved the Grey Town Plum rice pudding simply delicious. My friend had the burger which was very different, bun was black from squid ink, served on rocks. My dessert was to die for, highlight of my dessert eating career! Must try this place if you haven't been before.

Really good service with a delicious meal. The atmosphere at Charley Noble is lively and inviting. Presentation of the meal was really well executed along with what I saw from other plates.

It was my partners birthday and we chose Charley Noble to celebrate; which, we were both quite excited about as neither of us had been before - and we'd read good things.<br/><br/>The restaurant has a great look and feel; large windows, big open space, nice decor with some stylish industrial pieces and an open kitchen; all making this a pretty cool spot. The bar hosts several craft beers on tap too which is always a bonus.<br/><br/>We arrived about 5.20pm. There were only a couple of other tables occupied. Come 6.00pm, the place was filling up quickly. We started with a drink, 285ml Emerson’s Pilsner ($10) and a glass of champagne ($18). Both very nice indeed as we perused the menu.<br/><br/>For start we ordered the Chicken Liver Parfait ($14.00). Nicely presented in a jar on a wooden board. It came with six small, thin pieces of bread which worked well with flavours of the parfait, keeping it the focus of the dish.<br/><br/>The bread didn't last long and we were almost out; the passing waitress noticed and offered us more bread, we accepted. What we didn't realise (although suspected) was that we had to pay for it. $4.00 for six more pieces. It wasn't the cost, but the principle as we were offered the bread, we didn't order it - Big scheme of things, not a big deal though.<br/><br/>The parfait was nice but it lacked something - a depth of flavour perhaps. But it was an enjoyable start to our meal.<br/><br/>We ordered two glasses of the Marqués de Riscal Reserva, Rioja, to have with our mains ($28.00) - It was quite heavy but thoroughly enjoyable. A good choice.<br/><br/>Next were the mains, We both ordered a wood fired rotisserie dish; Pork Belly ($33.00) and Lamb Shoulder ($34.00). We also ordered sides; Truffle fries ($9.00) and French Peas ($9.00).   <br/><br/>My partner had the Lamb. She found it a bit fatty and bland - overall average. I tried a bit myself but couldn't really taste it because of the issues I was having with my Pork Belly.<br/><br/>First bite of the Pork Belly was extremely salty. Quite overpowering. The waitress passed and asked how our meal was going. I said 'fine thanks' as I felt it was too early to judge as it could've been just that piece of the crackling that was over seasoned. So I persisted hoping that it would improve but unfortunately it didn't. The meat and crackling were over seasoned throughout - a real shame.<br/><br/>The next time the waitress passed I mentioned it was too much and I couldn't eat anymore. She apologised and offered to replace it with another portion but by then the salt had killed my appetite and I didn't want a repeat experience, so I declined stating 'thank you, but I'm kinda over the dish'.<br/><br/>I was then offered a free desert and for them to clear the table - which was a nice gesture, but it left me thinking; 'so, I have to pay for this dish even though it was inedible?' - I said I 'wasn't feeling that hungry right now but would think about it (a desert)' - I didn't want to make a decision right there and then.<br/><br/>About five minutes later the waitress returned with a take away box with some complimentary 'Sweet Treats' to take away, saying: 'I know you're not feeling that hungry so here's something to take away'. This again was a nice gesture but it missed the point. I wanted to make my own decision but it was made for me. We did want a desert, so we shared a Panna Cotta, which, we later found out, we had to pay for. So my free desert wasn't free after all. I appreciate she was trying to help, but it didn't work.<br/><br/>The Sweet Treats were a couple of marshmallows, some dark chocolate and toffee popcorn.<br/><br/>The Caramel Panna Cotta ($16.00) was a welcome dish taking the taste of salt away from my palette. However, it was a bit too fussy. As my partner commented, 'I don't see why it needs cream on it', it also had chocolate crumble sprinkled over it - It was a nice desert but would have been much better if it was simpler.<br/><br/>There were some high points to the meal, but also some low points. When I went to pay the bill, it was for the full amount - my main at full price and the desert wasn't free after all. I paid for everything (all up $174.00) as I didn't make a fuss as it was my partner's birthday.<br/><br/>To be fair, the service was good, the ambiance and music are great and if you experience no issues with your meal you will have a great night here, but we left feeling disappointed.<br/><br/>The next morning I still felt that it wasn't right. So I called up and left a message for the manager. To their credit they called me back that day and I spoke with the duty manager, and passed on my feedback. He passed my comments onto his manager and they chose to compensate me - I didn't necessarily expect that, but it was a great gesture offered in good faith, for which I was very appreciative.<br/><br/>The point I'm trying to make here is that things do go wrong sometimes, but the important part is how they are dealt with that makes the difference - I was happy with the way they professionally rectified the situation.<br/><br/>Because of this I will return to Charley Noble, and look forward to a better experience.

Out to lunch with work today, dining on the set menu which included mains of Lamb Sausages, Ravioli or Fish. All three were presented in style, my dish specifically offering rich flavour in both meat, sauce and parsnip purée. A highly recommended eatery just off Featherston St in the heart of Wellington.

Had a great meal here the other night, the atmosphere was amazing and the interior design was absolutely stunning, reminded me of the American movie scenes in their restaurants. <br/><br/>The food was great, we had 3 entrees and 2 mains, to top it off, half a bottle of Bordeaux wine to compliment the red meats. <br/><br/>The overall experience was fantastic. I surely do recommend all of my friends to come dine!!!
Josh
Great atmosphere, with fantastic decor. The chicken liver parfait was tremendous to start, as was the lamb shoulder. Professional and super friendly service topped it all off. New personal favourite.
Hubert Cheng
One of the best places for dinner. Always a good time with just two people or four. Good atmosphere. Food is always going to be good, no doubt about it.

Well, sadly not impressed when I visited this place. I must admit that I have visited it about 6 months ago, so perhaps I should pay them a visit again, but the experience for lunch was not great. I do hope however that they have improved, but in a nutshell, for a start, the wine we ordered was no longer available, and a more recent year was offered instead, although, it could not have been the SAME wine, we were charged the same price. Our main were ok, but the desserts were very average, and so was the service. Another thing that annoyed me was the fact that I have noticed that a staff member who got changed came back to the kitchen to have a chat with his colleagues, in civil clothes. I think that a professional kitchen should be treated as such, and not a come and go as you please area for various reasons. Anyway, I may go back, or not, since Wellington as much to offer.

Cant fault this place. I have an egg allergy and a gluten intolerance (LUCKY!) but the staff here were incredible, there is a full GF menu, the staff listen and actually confirm ingredients and even bought out a packet for me to see after I was really impressed with something so simple as the bruschetta, the food was just cooked to perfection as well (had a rare steak). It is a bit pricey but I wasn't paying so didn't matter! Would recommend. Gets a bit noisy inside, not sure why that is (hard furnishings maybe?).
Rahul Mohanty
Tried the whole menu here. The Burger and Chips and the Lamb are the best dishes on the menu.<br/>Burger & Chips: You get to see the burger being cooked infront of your eyes. The pickled onion brings takes the burger to another level. The chips go well with a nice beer and that special ketchup. Recommended with a chilled beer.<br/>Not too sure about the salad on the side. But quick service. If you love your burger and chips, this will be worthwhile.

Amazing food but skip dessert and coffee. The food was amazing. Started with grilled octopus and polenta along with arancini balls and taramasalata. That set the tone for the amazing main dishes, lamb with cous cous, pork belly and spatchcock. If you do not try them all start with the lamb. The coffee however was the worst coffee I have had and the dessert average but the food was some of the best food I have had in the world. Definitely will return.

Firstly I want to say they have whole gluten free menu. Yay no food envy for me, no skipping over the menu to find the gluten free options – they were their right in front of me!<br/><br/>As soon as you walk into Charley Noble you get hit with a delectable smoky aroma from their woodfire ovens. <br/><br/>I started off with an Air Mail at the bar which was Bacardi, lime & honey with orange and champagne foam. They give you a little letter that has the recipe enclosed to keep, in theme with the name (super cute).<br/><br/>Entree I went for the bruschetta starter with asparagus, green bean, feta and mint. I literally asked them to ask the chef if it was actually gluten free because it looked too good to be true! To my surprise it was, that bread is the best GF bread I have ever tasted! <br/><br/>Main – Woodfired spatchcock. It was served on a panzanella salad with gluten free crotons. YUM, I couldn't finish all of this but lucky my boyfriend was willing to help me clean the plate. The spatchcock was juicy and succulent and surpassed my expectations.  <br/><br/>Overall the experience at Charley Noble was outstanding, all the waiters and waitress had incredible knowledge of the menu and wines. Service was great except the long wait for mains, but luckily we were in no rush to go elsewhere.

We too were here on Saturday night. We were prepared for a LONG wait but were keen to dine here. We checked in at the front of house and were advised of a 90 to 120 minute wait. With that in mind we snuck off to Bin 44 across the road for a couple of drinks and some light snacks.<br/>We popped back to CN about 90 minutes later and were second in the queue so had a glass of wine at the bar.<br/>Finally seated we ordered some starters and mains. The food was fantastic. Bruchetta to start then onto mains...<br/>Burgers - FANTASTIC<br/>Market fish - DELICIOUS<br/>Lamb Shoulder - OUTSTANDING<br/>Unable to resist we also had a couple of deserts which we also demolished.<br/>Yes the wait is bad but we knew that going. Great food and we will be back (perhaps a little earlier in the evening to reduce the wait!)
Philippa Bannerman
We went here because it was listed by Cuisine Magazine website as one of the best places in Wellington to dine. We were thrilled with our choice - fabulous honest and tasty food, buzzy atmosphere, and great wait staff who were attentive and had personality. Well worth a visit!
Jeremy Kirk-Smith
Great food, great atmosphere, great service and friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere in a lovely building. Had the monkfish special, pork belly, lentil salad. The chocolate tart was bitter sweet. Wine list broad and reasonable. All fantastic.
Phil Jones
Lovely food all round especially the scotch steak and the profiteroles. Very busy though. Had to wait over 30 mins for a table which shows how busy & popular it is. Nice cocktails help that wait though.
CCb
Always busy and a with a wait at the bar, but bar staff friendly and attentive.  Food high standard and delicious.  A big wait for and between courses (but it is a busy time of year).  Table sizes odd...I felt closer to the neighbouring guests than my partner.  A good night out, worth the hype.
Humbleluxury
Absolutely delicious! This place is constantly booked out and the atmosphere is electric! Love it. Pork belly is worth a try. Great wine list too. Would go back no qualms.
Alex Galletty
Nice food, interesting menu and the portions aren't too small, but the drinks prices are actually nuts. I don't think I've ever paid $12 for a smallish glass of pilsner in the city before. Wine list is a little one dimensional also, and the amount in the glass is less than usual and more expensive than normal for quite standard wines. It's a bit of a shame because it puts me off having that second or third drink which I normally would!

Magnificent food and use of NZ produce at its finest. Charley Noble lifts the calibre of the Wellington culinary space to new levels. I think winning the Wellington on a Plate Burger Challenge was well deserved, but only tells half the story of this place and its impeccable crew.<br/><br/>Appetisers: had the octopus and chicken parfait, both innovative and refreshing takes on their ingredients. Were satisfying starters perfect for sharing.<br/><br/>Main: I had the lamb shoulder, was melt-in-your-mouth, sensational combination of flavours and the tzakiki gave it a wonderful finish.<br/><br/>Beverages: they have a great selection of freshly squeezed juices, the pear juice in particular. The hot chocolate is to die for too.<br/><br/>Service: warm, friendly, attentive, 10/10. Really felt like we were looked after.<br/><br/>Price: not actually that expensive. It's reasonable, and while not fine dining, it offers diners of any age group a sophisticated, premium experience to remember.<br/><br/>Verdict: with all things in mind, I give Charley Noble a 5.0. I hope to see more places match the calibre of the service and kitchen of Charley Noble's.

Oysters are to die for! Wow, stayed here for an hour it was cray good. Me and my boy had a great time, thanks charley noble!

The first thing you notice about Charley Noble is the cool vibe...and the beautiful people who dine there :) The service was impeccable, never hurried. The wait staff went out of their way to offer little comforts, such as proactively asking if you want to share the entrées. <br/>The cocktail list is fun, classy, and short. That gets my vote: offer a few choices and do them really well.<br/>This was my second visit and I was very impressed with the meal last time. However, their WOAP menu fell short of my expectations. I think the concept was excellent; it was the execution that failed. My entrée, the pig's tail salad, had way too much dressing and the meat was overcooked. Unfortunately, same goes for the lamb main, which came out very dry. The rhubarb and apple crumble had too much rhubarb in it and the crumble was plain and bland. I was tempted to send it back. I know it was an extra busy Friday night, but that's no excuse. They had enough chefs in the kitchen to cope with the demand. That's the beauty of having an open plan kitchen. It was fun to watch them at work, though, and we still felt it was a good night out.

A group of us went to Charley Noble today for Wellington on a Plate lunch.  It was 2 courses (from a 3 course menu) and a beverage for $35. As a meeting was scheduled at late notice we were needing to be served promptly so we could get back to work.  To assist the restaurant we prepared a list of what we would like to eat by course - this was clearly set out in the piece of paper I handed the waitress.  This request was ignored (I was served early rather than with the group) and the waitress proceeded to serve us by menu so people without starters were left waiting until the mains were served and people who selected starter and main were left waiting for desserts to be eaten.  So despite the group having 2 courses we were served our courses as if we were having a  3 course meal.  When a starter and my main appeared (and no one else's food) I reiterated our request, the waitress was very aggressive and unpleasant advising our request wasn't clear enough for her.  She made no effort to apologise or to resolve the situation. The wine- half a glass of a nice pinot gris.  The food.  Most of the table (5) of us had the fish.  Servings were small, but more disappointing was that the fish was overcooked - this was agreed by all who had the yellow brick fish of the day.  The dessert was the saviour of the lunch.  The dark chocolate mousse - it was delicious and beautifully presented. Overall for $35 the lunch was overpriced and the customer service needs alot of improvement.

Our family had dinner there last Thursday night and it was excellent! Great food and friendly service. We tried the arancini and bruschetta starters, both of which were very tasty. Then we tried the spaghetti with prawns, the fillet steak and lamb shoulder for mains, all were delicious. For dessert we had the banana cream pie, the candy bar, the marshmallow and the mandarin sorbet, all very yummy. The restaurant has great decor and ambiance too. Highly recommend it.
Rachel Murach
Just got back from a lunch at Charley Nobles. Beautiful room and atmosphere. The menu looked appealing. The waitstaff however was rude and unhelpful when asked about the menu. Is it too much to ask to describe a dish on the menu? She then came back with the cutlery and dropped a knife on my lap - with no apology! The meals were meagre and pricey. I wouldn't go back.
Paul
Amazing that this place still can't manage to sort out seating people. We had to enquire about our table three times, took well over 90 minutes to get seated when we were told it would be an hour, two groups that arrived after us were seated before us and the staff kept asking us about another group. Seems to be a trend based on other reviews. Bar service was slow and the Maitre d' didn't seem to care.<br/>Food was good but there are plenty of better places in Wellington in terms of service, value and ambience.
Annette Coughlan
We were there Monday night - very busy. Maitre D was very unfriendly - it was almost like it was too much bother to serve us. Our waitress was brilliant and very helpful once we were seated. I thought it was very over-rated - extremely expensive for what it was. Won't be returning - can get much better value for money and a better welcome elsewhere. Front of House staff are supposed to be welcoming and friendly - not have a face like a slapped bum and treat people with disdain !
Kateřina Kelblová
We arrived just before 8pm excited to try the famous pork belly, but got told that they were out. A bit disappointing, we thought, ordering the lamb and a burger instead... Few minutes later the waitress came back saying they were out of lamb as well..! I would expect a restaurant of such a great reputation and with such a simple menu to stock up and deliver the two most popular meals on the menu (as we got told) way after 8pm...<br/>Well, we might be back to try the pork belly another time..hope they have some when we are next in Wellington!
Susan Harding
Have eaten here a few times now and it's currently the best meat restaurant in Wellington. Dined here as a group and had a wide selection of the menu- all excellent, and dined as a couple at the kitchen bar. What a fantastic experience. Probably the best kitchen in Wellington. Loved all the side dishes, the desserts and especially the delicious meats. A great bar too with yummy cocktails. My husbands favourite, the oysters and rib eye, mine the arancini, corn and the lamb. Only disappointment was that it was closed for a private function one night when we got there!
Cameron N
One of the best meals I've had in a long time, great setting, good service and possibly the best piece of pork I've ever had.<br/>Wanted to go back the next night, pain they don't take bookings though.
Flora Gotlieb
What a nice place! Love the way it has been restored to its original (?) glory. We love eating out and it is always nice to try out new places. The food was really good but the portion sizes not very generous. Our waiter was very friendly and we had a nice chat. May save our next visit to Charley Noble when we go out to see a show since it is so conveniently located.
Robyne L
One of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. We had a group that kept changing its number of people. The staff were great, very attentive and accommodating. The food was presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. Best steak i have had in a ages. Great wine list. can't wait to go back.

"Get your taste buds ready", proclaims the advertising. Hmmm. Had lunch here and was thoroughly disappointed with the miniscule and boring vegetarian Cesar salad. My dining companion's potato salad was similarly tiny for the price and greasy to boot. The bruschetta and topping was nice though; however, we had to wait 30 to 40 minutes for our food -- not acceptable during a weekday lunch hour, and we should have been advised of this waiting time in advance.<br/><br/>The waitress asked how our meals were, quickly followed by, "yummy?" I didn't have the energy to put her straight on one of the dishes, seeing as she'd already answered for me. Waiting staff is a little glum generally. Could do with being more approachable.
Kerry M
Absolutely beautiful! Fantastic decor, open and spacious. The oysters were a favourite, we sampled quite a few entrees and mains, all were beautifully presented and delicious. The various chosen wines complimented our meal perfectly. The premium quality food is well worth it.<br/>I am excited about returning with another group soon.
The Guppy
Had a fantastic time here. Me and 2 friends sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen.<br/><br/>It was so fascinating to watch. One of my friends is a chef and she couldn't even have a conversation with us she was so transfixed on the masterful ballet going on in the kitchen.<br/><br/>Entree:<br/>Had the chilli crab chowder for entree, yum!<br/><br/>Main:<br/>I highly DON'T recommend the roast vege and goats cheese mains, was so disappointed with this for several reasons (mainly lack of flavours and textures, overall a bit bland despite the amazing goats cheese). But when I told them how I felt about it they dealt with my concerns so well that it erased any bad feelings I might have had. And they seemed to take my feedback so seriously that I genuinely wonder if they might reconsider this dish. <br/><br/>My partner had the ravioli and it was BEAUTIFUL! Had major food envy.<br/><br/>AFTER:<br/>Finished with a spread of incredible cheeses and a cognac and felt like a king. <br/><br/>OVERALL:<br/>The kind of excellent service you'd expect from a fine dining establishment. And the attention to detail in all of the dishes is just phenomenal.<br/><br/>If I ever recover financially, I'll go back ;)

Why haven't I heard or been to this place before?! Amazing food, seriously good. I was lucky enough to be included with my wife's work dinner party on Saturday night. It was large group of around 17 people and at no point in the night were we looking for service, wanting for a wine top-up or wondering where our food was. Amazing service. I had THE best lamb shoulder roast I have ever had in my life, couldn't fault it if someone was paying me to. The Octopus was soft, juicy and full of flavour. looking around the table I saw several dishes that looked amazing and the smells coming from the open kitchen at the far end of the hall were fantastic. Great wine selection including some from Otago that I haven't seen anywhere else. Fantastic night.

This was our second visit to Charley Noble, the food the first time was quite good, the restaurant staff were very friendly but the Maitre D was very rude, both times we encountered the same grumpy not good attitude so we will not be returning again, there are many exceptional restaurants in Wellington so unless they correct this problem/staff member he will destroy their business.<br/>A shame as it is a nice place and they do have some lovely staff.
Kay Pattinson
Unfortunately, absolutely terrible service! I read the previous negative reviews but thought those reviews were probably unfair and thought I would give Charley Noble a chance! I should have listened to the reviews. The restaurant has the potential to be great but unfortunately our food was forgotten, then took ages to be rectified. We never received an apology and the Maitre D seemed to get angry when we asked about our meals. The manager asked how our experience was and when we said not too good, he didn't seem too fazed, as if he was used to it.<br/>Don't even bother with Charley Noble, spend your money elsewhere wisely!
Rhiannon Smith
Best meal/restaurant/service/atmosphere I have encountered in a long time. Can't wait to go back. Our waiter was awesome - recommending wines and suggesting how to have the meat cooked to make the most of the cut. The lamb was wicked and I especially loved being offered various mustards etc for the meat.<br/>P.s. The portions are very substantial! After our starters and entrees we were almost replete!
JG
Popped in for tea. We had the lamb, spaghetti and the creme caramel. Brilliant. Food was excellent, served up reasonably quickly by a very professional waiting and bar staff. <br/><br/>All that plus cocktails and beer was reasonably priced. Would def eat there again.
Michelle
Nice environment, but poor value and - at least in the case of the meal which I chose - poor food. We visited at lunchtime, and this place definitely needs a lunch menu. We had to pay dinner time prices for poor quality - I definitely won't return for lunch again. I ordered the chilli clam chowder and it was dreadful - with a name like this I expected plenty of flavour but it had absolutely no flavour other than that of flour and water. So it was probably just as well that it was the smallest chowder (or soup) serving I have ever had in a restaurant. To pay $16 plus $4 extra for some very average bread at a lunchtime, and receive such a disappointing dish was unacceptable to me. The service was friendly, but things like trying to order a cider and being told that there were not any, then seeing on the drinks list later that they do offer a cider, took the edge off it a little. However, the environment is pleasant, if stuffy on the day we visited, and to their credit, Charley Nobles are actively seeking feedback and encouraged us to complete a comments form, so maybe it will be worth trying it again one dinner time at a later date.
Dan King
Absolutely loved this place. The food is outstanding and I especially like the charcoal burning grill. I had the pigs tail and the lamb shoulder washed down with a lovely, draft Tuatara APA. It was fantastic and the Chocolate Candy bar with the caramel popcorn base is divine. The service and decor were tops as well and you can't beat the prices. Definitely a standout on the Wellington food scene..
Irene Charlton
Charley Noble is setting the standard and bringing in a new flavour to the Wellington Hospitality scene, and it is making people stand up and take notice. With nothing else like it in Wellington I can see why Charley Noble has taken off so well. With everything from the open kitchen fit out to the professional team they have pulling it all together this is a definite must for any food lover in Wellington. The crudo and the burger are stand-out with the wine list being extensive but easy to navigate due to knowledgeable staff. All in all this is a venue I will definitely be frequenting very often.
Dawn Baggaley
What's not to like about this place - fabulous food, great service and wonderful setting. I thoroughly recommend it. <br/>We went along early to ensure a seat as we'd heard it was busy having just opened and received a great review in The Dompost. I was expecting it to be in the vein of a lot of the new style eateries like Depot, WBC etc - there are similarities but for me Charley Noble held more surprises and interesting combinations. Loved the octopus and pigs tail salads and the lamb shoulder was very tasty. The roasted cauliflower was definitely a winner and took this generally neglected and unfashionable vege to new heights. Had no room for the wonderful deserts but did get to try a spoonful of the chocolate candy bar which was gorgeous<br/>And the building is great - very majestic and elegant without being fussy<br/>Great to experience such top notch food at a reasonable price.<br/>I'll be back.
Ross
Went as a group of 9 having high hopes after reading the menu. While I appreciate it was very busy it took an hour and a half to get our food after waiting half an hour to have our orders taken, and were not kept up to date on the foods progress. <br/><br/>When the food came out we found the portion sizes were tiny, especially for the high prices. The burger was small, few chips and the bun was dry. Steak was slightly undercooked. The "large" spaghetti was on the smaller end. The oxtail ragu offered little meat and sauce, what meat there was had been tainted by sinew. Steak sauces got mixed up and ended up with the wrong sauce.<br/><br/>On the other hand, the waiter we had was fantastic, he was friendly and helpful. He came out as attentive but not overbearing. The decor was refreshing and the open kitchen was a welcome view.<br/><br/>Mr Burton must have got the special treatment. Charley Noble, drop your prices or up the portion sizes and get your food up to standard with some reasonable wait times and I'll be back!
Greg W
We tried to eat there last night. Arrived at 6:15pm to be told a half hour wait. That's fine, drink at the bar. One and a half hours later we are still at the bar waiting for a table with nothing looking promising. Disgusted with being misinformed about the wait time we leave and have a great meal at a different restaurant straight away. Being in a sales role is about managing customers expectations well and Charley Noble completely lost it there and have now lost me as a customer. Had we been told a one and a half hour wait we could have re-planned our evening accordingly. In hindsight I guess "who leaves their dinner table at 6:45pm?"<br/>Restaurants that don't take bookings don't work in my view but I guess they have been driven to it by the apathetic approach of new generations that don't consider agreements to attend events or bookings set in stone and consider it okay to just not turn up rather than take the 30 seconds to formally cancel said agreements.
Debbie Baker
Bruschetta with the beans and asparagus - great and surprisingly tasty<br/>The main - pasta - please order a big serving - and it was the most delectable ravioli<br/>But the killer was the dessert. I never would have thought of ordering this but it was suggested by the waiter - as it was billed 'chocolate candy bar' ... hmm no mars bars for me. It was crushed popcorn as the base like a wafer, another layer, chocolate and a beautiful layer of icing on top that I wrote my name in with a spoon ... and then ate it. And a few pieces of candied caramel popcorn on the top no less. Loved it.

Food was ok, provided you are willing to wait 2 hours for a main! We went as a large group on the 9th of November. Normally restaurants should like a larger group of 20, but it appears that David Burtons good review and a packed restaurant meant that treating customers with any kind of respect goes out the window. We arrive at for our 6.30pm booking to a half full restaurant. Our two tables had one group of adults and another group teenagers. The teens got served first (mains only) then we were served our entrees. Food was good. When our teenage table was asked about deserts, we asked about our mains at 8.30pm! The waiter with the average attitude told us it was coming, but did not know when or was willing to specify a time frame. We then asked to speak to the Manager, who took over service and told us that our table was being started. By this time it was 8.40pm. We received our meals at 8.45pm, 2 hours 15 minutes from arriving in the restaurant. The Manager made no effort to apologise for the slow service nor did he offer any compensation. The food was good, but in balance with the service it only gets a 1 star for me.

Outstanding service with a fantastic menu, something for everyone. Comfortable seating which is a must and no loud vicious music to yell over. The steak is juicy and was cooked to my request. I have eaten there several times now and can't wait to go back to try something new.

Visited Charley Noble for lunch and I was impressed! We were limited for time, but found the service to be friendly and efficient and our food arrived quickly and was delicious. Try the lamb shoulder with couscous, it certainly hit the spot for me. We will be back, maybe for dinner next time, but a great place for lunch with a buzzing atmosphere and impressive décor.

As you see I've never reviewed before, but this was bad enough for me to take the time. We went for dinner with 8 people (bill came to nearly $600.00). The staff were obviously wanting to be somewhere else - they were actually quite rude. Not friendly, warm or inviting. The food came after an hour of waiting, some plates were quite large (burgers), but half a fillet of snapper was a tad small for $28.00 to say the least. The worst thing was paying $18.00 for a quarter of a cauliflower, sold as a large plate - albeit with cauliflower puree. In addition, the wine was so off, the waiter laughed at how bad it was - they've only been open 3 weeks :-(. The best thing was the cup of tea, presented beautifully. Although we all work next door, I doubt we will be going there again. Huge shame as it could be awesome - get some warmth and friendliness guys.

We went for dinner. The man seating us sets the tone for the evening. It seemed like a chore for him to help us spend time and money there. The food was fine although pricey for the serving size. The oysters were delicious the migonette the perfect accompaniment. My steak was more medium than the rare I ordered but it was no problem to send it back. We were short on time so I left without eating it. The waiting staff were pleasant and helpful, but don't bother with the host, he couldn't be bothered with us.

We went for lunch. Burgers were very good, pot pie excellent, snapper a little on the small side but very well cooked. All presented very well. Staff very enthusiastic (as they've only just opened). Service a little slow - we just got out in the hour. Will definitely visit again.

Delicious lunch - gourmet fish and chips for myself and the pasta for Madame ( with tomato and seafood) with friendly attentive service in comfy surrounds.
