Review The Green Man Pub - Wellington

The team is very attentive and friendly. We booked a table for two. The service was very speedy and I always love that especially with an empty tummy. Casual and spacious sports pub, it was busy though it was Wednesday night. Great place for a large group gathering. We were there for Wellington on a Plate and had PIE CURIOUS burgers. Very big and filling!

The food was great & very tasty. My steak was cooked to perfection . The staff were very friendly & attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is relaxed & comfortable with a few dining options including the watch sport on tv without it interrupting our conversation.

Delicious food all round. Steak and chips with mushroom sauce which was perfectly seasoned Chicken burger was full of flavour with perfectly crispy batter Korean pork belly bites were saucy and the snack portion was a generous serving. All round great meals and I would definitely go back.

Had a great experience overall. had steak and chips as it was their special that night. Beautifully cooked. Had the mushroom sauce which had mushrooms in it and was yummy. They make a fantastic margherita here. Decent. Will come back for that and the relaxed vibe. Enjoyed the funky decor.

Definately a place with some character, the staff were great, the food and drinks were very nice. At first I got worried about eating a pink chicken burger but then realised it was just the seasoning. It's definitely a hot spot and local spot, keep up the great work

Great place to watch games with easy reservation via Google. Fun and funky aesthetic with great wings and overall really great food (garlic bread was wonderful). Limited options for vegetarians and the less adventurous. Service was warm and welcoming, but a little stretched on a busy evening. Recommend!

Stopped in for a bite while our ship was in port ... had a couple Wellington brews & split the chicken sandwich. Food & beverages were great & the service as well. As if that wasn't enough, they had American football on the TV ... it was midday Friday & we were watching Tampa vs Baltimore on Thursday Night Football 😉

Loved the food. We were a group of seven and the food came out at the same time. Great waiting staff. Only four stars due to the mask wearing of the staff.

Great service - the wait staff was very attentive. There was a quiz on but they had another section of the resturant where we could sit where it was quieter. We got the steak. The steak was tasty (I like mine well done and my hubby likes his rare - they nailed both of them). The let down would be the mash as it had too much going on. Plain mash would've been a better option I believe.

Very good food at reasonable price. Steak was very juicy and tender, perfectly medium rare. Lamb shank was very tender and also cooked well. However there were many flying insects buzzing around. Will be 5/5 if no insects.

The food was brought out to me super quick and it was de-licious, so good. Staff was nice and easy going too, great time all around.

Great Irish Pub in the heart of Wellington. While we didn't have lunch, they have a great selection. Service was very good. Have daily specials, the day we went was 2 4 1cocktails, awesome!!

Typical pub food, menu has variety. Last visit had mould on my food. Staff were apologetic and took the meal off the bill but did put me off. Decor is also very outdated.

We came from Auckland for short trip with family. We don't drink, we just want to have meal.  I had Mike Tyson burger as vegetarian meal (strange name for vegetarian food). The burger was very thick, fillings were mainly big portobello mushroom and crispy grilled haloumi cheese.  Surprise Surprise! The vegetarian burger was so good! I didn't expect this at pub. usually they concentrate meat menu. So if you are vegetarian and looking for pub in Wellington, I recommend you here. I wish they have more filling vegetarian menu.

One of my favourite places in the Wellington CBD.  Great location with attentive and efficient staff.  The food always provides a great selection of options, with the lunch menu being extremely extensive.  Something for everyone.<br/>Plus ...... if you are after a cheeky yet good selection of beers, then look no further.

Nice place to hang out with friends during night. My husband rdered an ale and it tasted great. With a little sweet taste in the end, it reminded me of what I had in China.<br/>Fried chicken were not spicy at all although we ordered the most spicy one. But the original flavour was not bad.

Three of my favourite foods exist here and cook well. The seafood chowder, the chicken and of course the curry fries which are a real treat. Probably not the cheapest bar for drinks, but the food is pretty good and the staff are really great.

Delicious food with lots of choices, hearty servings fab wine list with different sized pours, perfect for lunch time drinks, great staff, fast service, quirky decor... what more could you want in an Irish pub ☘️ we will definitely come back👌<br/><br/><br/>

Great service food was yum! But the restaurant was very loud with only a curtain between the pub and where you eat. Would be great to have more of a separation.

Have been a couple of times for lunch and dinner...recommend booking a table as we went for dinner last night and it was busy but we were looked after. The food and service were great...love the fries and the chicken pieces were delish!!! I ordered the Southern Chook which I devoured!!! Although it was packed and a function/event was going on the staff were very accommodating and the place has a cool little vibe!!! Will definately be back soon!!!

Lovely food, decent pub portions. Great selection of food. Friendly service. Recommend the prawn entree, fish of the day, spinach pizza and the panacotta to finish.

Had the best meal here before a comedy show only to find that I'd lost my tickets, our waitress Vickie went above and beyond to help us and ended up printing the tickets for us out back. Save the night, everyone in Wellington should go there, brilliant food, awesome service.

Have been here so many times and I really enjoy eating at The Green Man, though it can get quite busy and loud. Two of us ordered the 300g beef fillet with a side of chips and a side of vegetables with mushroom sauce. Fillet was cooked perfectly. Sauce was so yummy. The other person ordered the Hurricanes meal in the man size which he enjoyed. Service was really good and our waitress was lovely.

$15 steak night. Cooked to perfection, great sized steaks and very worth it. The beers and wines flow easy here and it's a great place for a Friday after work drink. Will always be my number one. Keep it.

I go there for business lunch. Food are okay. Good selection of drink. Good location and friendly staff. Can't find fault. Their steak was good.

My work colleague and I had lunch here and what a buzzing funky little bar/restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I had the calamari salad which was cooked perfectly! I will definitely be back again :) We loved the peacock feature wall too!

Best value breakfast in town. $10 brekkie had everything but just smaller portion. Very well cooked, not oily and well presented. Would certainly come back again.

This place is always buzzing. Had lunch today with my workmates and I always opt for the Bangers and Mash with Coke. One of my favorite meals at this restaurant. The fish and chips and the burgers are also great! Lovely place to also have a few drinks at when the band is playing.

Service was swift. Food was tasty and decent sized portions also. Probably had I posted this shortly after our evening out it would have been better to give the meals the review it deserved.

It is a very rare occurrence for me to give a pub such a high rating. The service here is not always the fastest but the food is well worth waiting for. The burgers here are astounding. I’ve had the beef burger and the chicken burger and they were both excellent. The beef was cooked medium-rare and the chicken thigh was succulent and moist. The other ingredients were tasty and fresh and the fries and aioli are both winners. The decor here is eclectic and the atmosphere is relaxed. As mentioned, the service can be slow and this is something they should really work on, but I am completely won over by the food. I’m lucky that this place is my local!

This place has a great menu, such a large variety to choose from. From pizzas and steak through to pastas, wings and burgers plus loads more. The wait staff are always friendly and the meals are good value for money. It has a relaxed pub atmosphere but can get quite busy at peak times. Highly recommended for traditional pub fare.

Really disappointed. I mean the inside is big and nice, location is really perfect, staff is decent. But when you order fries and get so little curry that you have to ask again.. and as soon as you are finished with your drinks they pass by you can't even breathe, really felt like a money vacuum. Food was not worth it either. Sorry that seemed like a nice place but will no go there again.

Great place to meet for drinks as well as casual dining. They also have areas for booking private functions and great catering. <br/><br/>Can get pretty noisy but in fairness to The Green Man the noise level is a testament to how popular it is!

Pub food. Good size entrees about $15. Chowder was thick and tasty. Buttermilk chicken was a hit. The pork ribs however was dry. Service was top notch and she even apologised for the ribs and tried to get us compensated (since I only took a bite of one rib and left the rest) but the manager on duty would not have a bar of it. Bad service from the top. Shame

A friend and I had the pork belly and unfortunately while the flavours were great, the fat hadn't been rendered out properly so the crackling was left soggy and wet. Good service.

Have been here multiple occasions for corporate events, dinner and just drinks. Every time I go service is fantastic and food is always perfect. You do pay a little bit more but it's worth it for the atmosphere they create, a long with the service. Bar staff have a massive part to play in this as you never have to get out of your table for the service

Just went to lunch for the steak special really very average. Nice venue good service pity about the food. Quantity vs quality ? I suppose you have to decide.

average food, ok service...just another average pub meal in my humble opinion, nothing that jumped out at me and said WOW gotta go back there again.appreciated the smoking section when use to smoke tho, so it's accommodating that way.

Went to Greenman for breaky this morn, with 2 others.  A large group managed to place an order just before us, so there was a long wait for our coffees.. and was about 50 mins before our meals were served.  Friend had the french toast, nice but he felt over priced at $22, I had the burrito - it was just ok. Our 3rd friend very disappointed with his breakfast - Bacon & Egg BAP, not presented well at all, hash browns dry, BAP burnt & hard.  Wouldnt go back for b'fast, but lunch meals are good.

The girlfriend and I were going to go catch a movie in town and wanted somewhere to have dinner - had heard about this place from a friend who said their food was pretty good so went to try it out. <br/><br/>I got the Chicken Burrito and my girlfriend got the Roasted Chicken Breast. The chicken was outstanding in both meals, succulent and not dry at all!! Only complaint I have was that I would of liked more sour cream - but that is because I love the stuff. Staff did take a little while to serve us, but was a busy night so wasn't too fussed - food came out decently quick and we didn't miss the movie. <br/><br/>A place that I would definitely recommend.

Love this place. Had a wonderful meal with some girlfriends form out of town and loved the band afterwards. What a cool place.<br/><br/>I've eaten here a couple of times now and have enjoyed the informal atmosphere. I love fresh fish and the chefs seem to be able to cook it perfectly every time.<br/><br/>There were nine of us in the group and we all enjoyed dinner and then hitting the dance floor afterwards. A great place to catch up and meet other people.

14/09/2015 Dinner visit<br/>My wife and I were given a Greenman gift card.  it had been some time since our last visit although we would regularly go in for a beer if friends suggested it as a place to go.  Unfortunately this visit was worse than the last, hence the even poorer score given.   We ordered off the main dinner menu and waited for out $25 burgers.  They arrived and sure enough they were pretty average at best.  My Wife's was the more appealing one, a basic cheese burger and chips server on an interesting to look at yet awkward oblong wooden plate.  It was edible but flavorless.  you know how sometimes you can just tell that no one in management or the kitchen has eaten there own food for far too long?  Thats what it tasted like.  It was clear to us this had to be the case because no one in their right mind would make this on purpose and be proud of it.<br/>Mine was another matter, Venison burger. The menu description sounds pretty good and lets be honest, how hard is it to mess up a burger to be seriously bad? Bad enough you cant get through it even if money was on the table to do so.  Somehow they managed it and 3/4 of mine sat sadly flopped on that silly wooden plate as we left.<br/><br/>To top it off we left to pay and had to argue that the gift card we were given was paid with NZ$ and as such shouldnt be exempt from the Wellington entertainment card also in our possession.  Forget the fact that my $25 burger was still sitting on its plate behind me, this was insult to injury on a rare night my wife and I had time in out busy schedules to even have a meal out together.  I was and am still miffed.<br/><br/>Trying to do the right thing, I wrote to the Green man about this, gave them a chance to respond before going to this site.  I received no reply.  Thanks a bunch Greenman, we wont be back and I cant understand why others choose to. <br/><br/>Dec 17th 2013 review... initially 3.5 out of 10Just got back from a bit of a lame lunch at the Green Man Pub. I have been here for food and drinks on several occasions and have left with similar feelings. The atmosphere is good, its a clean vibrant pub and a good location. Service was ok but it did take almost an hour for our food to come out (group of 5 people). When the food did come out it was brought up individually in 5-7 minute intervals; not a hell of a long time but long enough to either let your food go cold or eat in front of others in the party while they wait. My last grumble is that I ordered the chef's recommended special which was the chicken burrito - described as succulent chicken, rice, beans etc... inside I found chopped up precooked-from-frozen-type chicken sausage but hardly "succulent". at $23 this was kind of disappointing. Over all it was again, underwhelming for the price and time spent waiting. The beer on tap was good.

Only ever been here for their $15 for 500g steaks! The sauces were delicious and even though there was some chewy areas I didn't eat it was still $15 for 500g!! And this was only a tiny but and the rest was delicious. Have had it twice now and will definitely be back! Staff have always been great

I was tempted to try out the steak offer here with a friend. $15 for 500g and mushroom sauce and chips, it seemed like a dream come true. <br/>The steak I had was cooked good and the only qualms I had was that it was a little burnt and a quarter of the steak I couldn't chew through - might I point out that I'm still young and have all my teeth intact. <br/>Couldn't say anything about the chips though, best I've ever had at a restaurant, full stop. I was tempted to take some off my friend's plate when she offered but with some self control, I refrained. <br/><br/>For dessert, we ordered the churros with ice cream and shared it. All in all, it was a very satisfying meal.

We had a mid-week wintery lunch at Green Man recently. Although predominantly a bar, there are several food options available as well as an all day barsnacks menu. I had a main of seafood chowder, which was deliciously thick, full of seafood and served with slightly-burnt ciabatta. It was a huge portion considering it was on the 'light meal' menu and much larger than my friend's Greenman Fun-Guy mushroom dish from the 'substantial' menu (although both priced at $18.50). Our service was basic and efficient. The Green Man gets extremely busy on Fridays and some evenings but has a convivial pub atmosphere and a small outdoor area. A good weekday lunch venue.

Came here for an early dinner and loved the steak. The place look a bit cold and sterile from the outside but inside is cool, lots of different spaces. Good beers, good food, good service - no complaints from me other than looking forward to the next visit.

Had a work party here ages ago and was awesome! Even scored a free drink for dancing like a pro :P ahahah Great team of people and the food and drinks were absolutely top notch!!! A+ <br/><br/>I enjoyed their set-up and pool was great , lots of ways to keep entertained and the staff were very helpful in suggesting new drinks for us to try. Bar tab ran out quick :P <br/><br/>Great place.

My husband and I popped in to The Green Man for lunch when we were in Wellington a couple of weeks ago.<br/><br/>This pub has a great atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and the service was speedy. Our meals were very tasty, in particular the flavours in the soup were just delicious.<br/><br/>We will be back again for sure.

Just had lunch with workmates at The Green Man and have to say that everything was very good! I had the Steak special for $15 which was a 500g rump steak with fries and mushroom sauce along with garlic bread and hot vegetables and everything was tasty. The steak was huge and cooked to perfection! The staff are friendly and helpful and the variety on the menu makes this a must return to place for me! Good food and good service - will definitely go back....Thank you for a great lunch experience!

I'd brought website voucher deals twice for this pub - and would feel comfortable returning to pay full price! <br/><br/>The first time around I wasn't expecting all too much so played it safe. I ordered buffalo wings, fries and later on got a steak and a pint. The service was superb! Although there was a wee wait (approx 20-30mins), this could be expected anywhere. The second time around I returned without question to have a quick meal before going to a movie - This confirmed that this is the place to go if you want a decent meal at a great price with good service!!<br/><br/>If you're into thick cuts of scotch fillet steak at around $40+, this may not be the place to go. However, if you're after a well priced meal with tasty tenderised marinated rump steaks (or a great selection of other food and hops) - The Greenman has this covered!

I have decided to have another go, I have given 5 stars as the restaurant manager and waiter service was outstanding. Plus the chicken wings and the pork belly were very nice and tender, taste was just right, not salty. I had the lamb rump, taste was very nice, the meat were juicy and have some blood. yum!!! <br/><br/>We are planning to go for a quiz night. and they have 12 wings plus a jug of beer for $30... will go back to do that

We were gifted a couple of vouchers for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it!. The service from our waiter from what he told us was his fourth day on the job is a paragon of excellence that many of his peers could learn. I ordered the duck again while she had a generous serving of terakihi with cajun spice. Service was very fast and the food was great. We'll definitely visit again.

We bought a couple of vouchers from Spreets and must say it was a great deal. The service is the best in Wellington, the food was delicious. The ambiance was very nice, music not loud and annoying, candles on the table all in a very nice room. Definitively we'll visit again.

Took my wife and in Laws here on a Thursday night. We had the Confit Duck, Rib eye Steak the Market fish and my mother in law had the vegetarian entree and main. We we're all very impressed with the food and service. The dining area is really cool!. The best food and friendliest staff we've had in Wellington! Recommend it!

Husband and I both got steaks cooked to our differing tastes perfectly. Really enjoyed the food and the service.

Went to the Greenman on a Wednesday night, I had been there before for lunch and it was quite nice. We waited over half an hour to be served, the excuse given was sorry I got talking.....<br/><br/>The meal itself was nice and priced accordingly.<br/><br/>We also ordered 2 beers, a diet coke and 1 cocktail (which we enquired whether it was priced at $5, as per a special that was advertised and were advised it was). <br/><br/>When we went to pay (waited another 15 minutes to pay) and we were billed for our meals as per normal , the beers and 2 expensive cocktails which were not ordered (neither were the one cocktail which was ordered at all). I advised that we also had a diet coke and we queried the cocktails. The young blond bar girl who originally served us was queried by the duty manager (I presume) who had now been called in to deal with our payment. The duty manager, then argued with us telling us the bar girl was right and asking us how she should deal with the situation. I then needed to raise my voice with the "duty manager" which made it a very uncomfortable situation, one I have never been put in before.<br/><br/>It seems this restaurant/bar knows little about customer service, their menu, or how to operate their till for that matter.<br/><br/>I will not be returning to the green man nor recommending it to anyone.

Very much enjoyed the Maori bread and the rabbit dish. Decor is great. Pleasurable experience with very friendly and helpful staff. Will definately return soon!

This place always seems to be busy, and quite often it's hard to find a seat, or a table to lean on. It's always nice to be served by an Irishman at an Irish bar - so definitely did not let us down there. We were warned that the spicy wings were insanely hot, and our whole group was a little disappointed with the spiciness when they arrive. The chilli cheese fries were nice. It's a shame the outside area is for the smokers, because I feel this is the nicest part of the whole place.
