Review Wbc Restaurant - Wellington

An absolutely amazing meal. This was by far the best meal in our 2+ weeks in Australia/New Zealand. The oysters were fresh and the chicken app was great flavors. We split several of the mains and all were excellent. It's a very diverse menu but all items we ordered really worked well.

Thank you for the delicious variety of food, each course was full of so much flavour. Really appreciated that we chose a range of dishes, and the kitchen seemed to have chosen which of those dishes would be best to come out together, and in which order. Incredibly fast service too. Will definitely be back.

I visited WBC for a celebratory lunch. The restaurant has a combination of tapas-style sharing dishes and also large dinner plates. We ordered some Pacific and bluff oysters as a starter. I also ordered the fish as a main. It was delicious! There was a little wait for the food but overall a good experience.

I strolled into the restaurant and chose to sit by the inviting bar area. From the moment I settled in, I experienced exceptional service and savored delectable dishes. Undoubtedly, this establishment has earned the top spot on my list of favorite dining destinations in Wellington.

Great vibe, attentive staff with exotic accent, kitchen staff were friendly too but abit loud, we were sitting where we could see them so was a bit awkward. Menu is creative yet simple. Drink list is extensive. We had some scallops and raw fish curry, it was interesting. Vietnamese lemonade was somewhat usual but with a refreshing twist. Keen to go back to try other things on the menu.

Delicious food, fantastic service, great cocktails and wine selection in a modern setting.

We had a work related lunch booked where a colleague is dairy intolerant, gluten intolerant and fussy. Also one of my colleagues was abrupt, direct and hangry. The staff remained professional and provided great service, while the food was superb. If you love spicy we’ll made food or simple delicious meals they catered for it all. My colleague with the food intolerance confidently added WBC to her venues to eat at. Also the espresso martini (made with Rum) was very good!

Top notch food and service. One of the best restaurant in town. Highly recommended for seafood lovers. Dessert was amazing. A+ overall.

Amazing ambience! Fantastic service. I love the experimental food here. Great cocktails too. The fried egg plant and raw fish in curry are a must have.

Cozy place with good ambiance with a wonderful concept of sharing plates . Do try the oysters, I heard they serve the best oysters and they were delicious both fresh ones and tempuras. Interesting combination of vegetables sides with meat dishes. I need more spices and would rate them 3.5

TOTAL RIPOFF! I don’t know if the meagre portion sizes suddenly classify a restaurant as being ‘fine dining”, but this was a total ripoff!. We ordered a few small plates as well as the brisket for $34, and although delicious it was a small bite full and the rice for $14 looked like a ration from a prison camp -it wasn’t even ½ cup!
We are used to high prices coming from Auckland but the price didn't justify the food.
The ambience, service and the produce and flavour pairings were good.

I was very impressed with the quality of the produce and the preparation. This place serves New Zealand styled fusion dishes. We got the octopus tacos, Beef fat potatoes, wakanui steak balvette, prime sirloin, lamb neck massamam. Service was also excellent

Cool vibe, and nice food. But prices didn't quite match the service we received. Wait staff were friendly, but very casual - they rearranged half the restaurant around us (and ask for a service tip afterwards!?) We were glad we were given a voucher to pay for the meal - wouldn't have be stoked to pay out of my own pocket!

Wonderful wine list, flavorful dishes and considered service. Recommend the satay beef, lime popcorn and raw fish curry. And the pork dumplings are phenomenal!

we've come here several times, ages ago, but I thought I'd write anyways : because the bone marrow started was so freaking delicious. Their constantly evolving menu is a joy. Tiny room, difficult parking, reservations ....argh! yet, we come back. even if marrow isn't on the menu. so. delicious. I love sitting by the big tall thin windows peering down onto the sidewalk.

I've walked by WBC too many times and could only have gleaned how good the place was from reviews and hearsay, until now. I had a good time at WBC, we were a well-looked after dinner party of 7. Our numbers made it more challenging to share the "large plates", but we ate through five of them, four of them quite satisfying with memorable fragrance/sauces/flavours. The exception was the duck curry-inspired special dish, it was was flavourful and loyal adaptation/take on traditional duck red curry, but the dish used duck wings rather than boneless meat - duck wings are better to nibble on and I would've liked to have a bit more duck meat that was shareable. That being said, WBC boasts a good selection of wine and cocktails and the service was consistent to a high standard. My verdict: well worth a try!

Finally Had a dinner here after hearing lots good on it. 3 of us came at around 5:30pm, it is a clean and quite place. However the whole experience was not that good. No staff came to us to introduce their blackboard specials (we came for their fresh seafood and daily-updating specials). So we ordered by our imagination. The entrees were ok. I had duck with red curry as my main, it came with rice, many bones and just a little meat ( I wouldn't order it if I knew it's with rice and bones). My friend had crispy skin warehou which came with rice and curry too( she didn't know) . We even thought they made mistakes. And she said the skin part was too salty. It is so disappointing to have it as my farewell dinner with friends.

The flavours were great but the portions were tiny and our entree took over an hour to come to our table. I went for a special occassion as a colleague raved about how great it was. Perhaps my expectations were too high? I would not go back at all.

Lovely tapas plates and very interesting, flavoursome large plates. We dined as a group of eight or so and we did not have one dud dish. Very helpful and knowledgeable wait staff too.

Have been four or five times over the past year. This is a foodie restaurant with an interesting, varied menu. Shellfish seems to figure large but the variation of dishes changes with the seasons - as it should. Some follow trends - pulled pork and bone marrow are current but many are simple standards - tuatua, oysters, squid. Ambience is cool and very Wellington, great steel framed windows overlooking Victoria street shoppers, a small number of tables and bar seating looking over the kitchen. Kids probably not, but it depends on the kids upbringing - foodwise. Not a first date restaurant but certainly one down the track. Ambience is warm and noisy when it gets busy in the evening. The dishes are small, delicious, rarely boring and often very clever. Personally I'd go for more small plates than one large but everyone's different. If it's your first time maybe go for variety and when you know the restaurant go for the bigger plates. In some ways more adventurous than its big sister Capitol, of a smaller scale and more relaxed. It's not a Logan brown or Ortega but it's somewhere you could drop into at lunch or after work and happily be stimulated by something of interest. The staff like everywhere can vary but usually very helpful and the maitre'd is relaxed, pleasant and knowledgeable. Wine list is small but good. Wbc is a place I'd look forward to going back to every month or so. It is certainly in my top ten Wellington restaurants.

Had a lovely dinner at WBC the other night with a group of girlfriends. The head waiter was very accommodating as I rang an hour before to say 6 of us were coming and they were able to put together a table for us despite their walk-in policy. Everything was delicious, some of the smaller plates were very small for the price. The waiter accidentally took away our ceviche before it was finished and when I informed our waitress she immediately sent over a complimentary dish - very professional and polite :)

Six of us dined there on Saturday 12.7.14 loved it. Good service, good wine, loved the oysters and the ribs. Also had to sample bits of the others meals as we were all impressed. Staff very friendly, made it a pleasure to dine there Their first birthday so they were celebrating with birthday cake. Recommended.

quiet dinner for two whilst the twon went crazy at the football

pumpkin soup, eggplant and asparagus all fabulous

the chilli ginger pumpkin soup (definately a hint of lemongrass to go with the corriander) was truly sensational

Visited for the first time with friends. Not ever having dined at Capitol, I was really keen to check this place out. We were treated wonderfully, despite not having a place to sit initially, (they were super busy) we were seated at the bar and promptly offered food and wine.

The service was attentive, the experience very personal and Tom and his team did a great job looking after us.

Well done, I highly recommend this place.

My friends and I went to WBC for a light dinner on a Friday night. We thought the restaurant had a great feel to it and the staff were absolutely excellent, but the food was not very exciting.

Conceptually, an ever-changing menu with loads of small plates to share is really great. Places like Ombra and Duke's do this really well. Unfortunately, I found the food at WBC bland. It under-delivered for the price.

I'm hopeful that I just caught them on a off night because everything else was really very good; the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the food came out in good time, the atmosphere was buzzy.

We went as a group of four and the food and service started off wonderful.
When the main courses arrived, two were stone cold so we politely told them. They took the meals away and re-heated them and in one case to a crisp. The message from the chef was that the potato should be eaten half cold and the Offal dish didn't realy need to be hot.
Most of the meal was great, but if they want to survive, they need to repect their customers especialy those that spend over $400
We won't go back

I took my wife here last night, it was not busy when we arrived, it got busy, pacek and noisy. The staff were great, nearly fault less when you exclude being over charged and poor comment management.
The food is average and expensive, the menu is limited and the daily menu board hard to see when people sit next to them. Would I go again, probably not.

Had lunch here with a friend. What a great spot! Awesome decor, great menu, lovely people. I had a fresh oyster, can't remember which one, but it was delicious. We shared some fish cheeks, delicious, and some seared scallops with potato, egg, capers... totally awesome. We also had the beet root & goat's cheese bruschetta. That was damn tasty. Washing it down with a Neudorf Pinot Rosé was perfecto.
I'll be back again & again.

Visited WBC on after hearing great things about it from coworkers. My partner and myself thought the ambiance was great and the mix of bar and restaurant atmosphere was pulled off very well. We had a selection of tapas including smoked beetroot bruschetta and oysters which were lovely. Great selection of shellfish.

Went for dinner last night at the newly opened WBC. Great location on Victoria Street on the 1st Floor of the building. Very lovely fit out, nice ambient, friendly waiter, great wine.....BUT...the tapas were just not good. If you want to spend $120 for 2 people on some pork ribs which don't have any meat on them, 3 chicken wings which must come from chicken who were malnutritioned, a flabby crostini, the smallest bowl of fries then it's maybe your place. (we also had the green beans which were really nice and 3 oysters with shells in it )Otherwise - I'm afraid..stay away. Portions way to small and taste just average.
