Review Grill Meats Beer - Wellington

Matt Thom
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The layout and seating was comfortable and enjoyable We shared the food which was all fantastic, and came out hot and quickly; they even cut the burger for us knowing we were sharing The beer selection/ tasting paddle was just what we needed to wash it all down Great food, service, location.... We'll be back.

This place was a perfect reminder of good, home-cooked meals back in the States. Everyone at the entire table, the two different times I went there, absolutely devoured their food. Considering my small, college-student budget, the food was slightly pricey, except for the $6 fried pickles, but it was worth every single dollar. This food will certainly fill your stomach and leave you feeling like you made the right choice by eating there. If you are a fan of a little spice in your life, I completely recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. Then again, I am fairly confident that everything on their menu is absolutely delicious. After eating there my first time, I vowed to take all my friends there again, and I did and ordered the same tantalizing meal. Also, if you are a fan of trying different brews, they change their draft menu frequently, so you can try different beers and ciders from around New Zealand depending on when you happen to go. Aside from the food, the service was exceptional; the two waiters I had, one of them on their very first night, were knowledgeable of the menu and offered suggestions as to what to order. The restaurant as a whole was very aesthetically pleasing and a great environment to enjoy a tasty meal with friends.

Great place for beer and food. Steak was seared just right and the sauce complemented the meat perfectly. The burger was spicy and the poutine was layered with gravy and cheese curds. The ambience was cosy and service was attentive. Seating was amble and kid friendly as well.

We had a lovely meal at Grill Meats Beer recently. There’s a great vibe at Grill with an upbeat 80s-90s soundtrack and an open kitchen so you can watch all the action. We were advised the buffalo chicken nibbles were very spicy and were delighted that they delivered such a kick. I had medium rare Angus pure sirloin steak with Bearnaise sauce, shittake mushrooms and merlot jus with a side order of curly fries. Great flavours but a lot of gristle in the meat. Service was very good and there’s also an extensive craft beer menu.

Hands down one of the best tasting steaks I’ve had in ages. Really nice mushrooms and croquettes on a hot mustard to accompany it. My wife’s burger was ok, but glad I got the steak. Kids meals were pretty good, and had stuff to occupy the kids. Desert was average, sticky date pudding. But I guess you don’t come here for the desert. Nice range of beers, and enjoyed the IPA we were recommended. We’ll definitely be back.

Great food, super service. The place is so warm and inviting. I was treated really well and made to feel special. Loved the music that was playing, some great classics. Made the lunchtime better. Recommendation about the meal and drink was spot on. I will be back again. Great work guys

Was there after years again. Was during Cupa Dupa festival. The portions were smaller and prices up. Maybe because of the festival. The food we had was good to great. The beer cocktails I would better not have tried.

Service was good and the menu options interesting, although the fusion dishes were not as impressive as hoped. Impressive range of unique draft beers were available.

The experience here was pretty good, and while I don't have any complaints, I just feel the burger I ate sort of lacked anything special. Chips were excellent, service was wonderful, everything was top notch.

This was one of the more popular dining places on the street. Good variety of beer and burgers. Their spicy fries were really spicy and delicious. Didn't think much of the sticky ribs but burgers were good.

Grill meets beer. That's all you really need to know. Exceptional grill, exceptional beer. Service can be slow but boy is the food worth it. I always go for a burger, without hesitation. The wallpaper in the bathrooms will be oddly familiar with the wax paper on your plate. It's a nice touch. P.S If you ever want to leave a restaurant in a sugar coma, try their chocolate fudge sundae. It's to die for

Music is a wonderful thing to accompany a meal and tonight we had a 90s mix that made it a great mini singalong. The bad part of the evening wasn't so much bad but it was a weird robotic service. Its like the person just learnt how to do the basics of service and was piecing it together. Wellington has a great reputation for service and this was a reminder that everyone starts somewhere. One of the things that I'm reminded of in these times is how we can sometimes concentrate on the system that we forget to add our personality. The food was good. The hot Chicken burger, Venison ribs with poutine. We couldn't finish either dish, they were a good size. The chilli fries with the burger had a bit too much oil which spoilt the full experience of the burger dish. The hot chicken burger had that rare crispy outside with moist inside. Seriously this is a hard to get combo. The ribs came with that strong American style smokey sauce. Its like an American came to NZ and fell in love with our Tegal chicken and South Island Venison. They even Americanised the Poutine by adding curly fries. If you're in for a man meal of burger ribs and fries with an American flavor then you'll best be booking a table.

Been here four times, great food, service, excellent beers on tap! Two years later, still unbeaten - nothing in Akl comes close.

Great burger Make sure you order your beef patty the way you like it.or it will come rear/blue.

I know I should have gone for a burger but since I just had one last night elsewhere, I went with the fried fish bites starter which was well worth it too. Open door kitchen atmosphere that feels more like a burger-only joint despite the fact theyre part of the Craft Beer Capital Trail.

Best burger I've had in forever. And the fries too. Didn't want the taste adventure to end 😍
Claire
Food was good, but we are waiting 40 minutes for our orders

These guys know how to do meat. Super friendly service and warm ambience.

I really enjoyed the Nashville Hot Chicken burger 🍔 with chilli fries 🌶 🍟for $22 NZD. I could taste the flavour combo of chilli and garlic in the chips and were seasoned all the way. The burger was also enjoyable. The chicken patty was moist, and it complimented nicely with the slaw + thinly sliced pickles and jalapeño.<br/><br/>I would definitely give Grill Meats Bar a go if you are in Cuba Street. Great service overall and I look forward to coming back to try out the chargrill menu range.

We weren't starving so didnt have a burger but instead had a range of starts, they were great and would go back. For lunch they were busy which is a good sign! Large range of beer, would love to go ba k for dinner and a burger :)

Went here recently for burgers, beers etc. friendly staff, and a yum dessert but the burger patties were horribly over cooked and charred (not in a good way). I have had good food here before but might give it a miss for a while.

Waited for 1 and half hour for only entrees. Never explain about waiting or excuse.A Rude staff THREW the dishes to table even saying sorry about waiting.<br/>Worst place in Wellington.

Nice burgers - easily the best in Welly. Great food and excellent range of beers.<br/><br/>I always pop in for a visit when visiting from Akl, as I've yet to find a place up there, that even comes remotely close to the same quality - rather embarrassing for the largest city in NZ!!<br/><br/>The food, beer and coffee scene in Welly is the best, hands down.

The blue cheese chicken nibbles I had to start with were amazing and I could have had a full size plate of just them. We went there specifically to get the ribs (I had heard were great) which were unfortunately not being served that night, so that knocked a star off the rating. My partner and i both ordered Wagyu steak instead, there was some inconsistency with the two plates but it was still a great meal. Friendly staff and delicious beer, I'll be back.

Hello. We just got two burgers from here and they were literally outstanding. Like wow. Amazing. Considered calling them to say just how amazing they were but decided this is the more appropriate way to do so. 10/10 would recommend teehee

Very nice burgers<br/>The staff are very friendly and it’s always busy<br/>There’s a good vibe and the ambience is great<br/>We will definitely come back

Overall - great food, nice place, would go back<br/><br/>Food: Great food, while burger and fries can be a very simple affair, these burgers are nice. Our table had the AB's burger, Piggy McPigface, SA burger and the Nashville. All were rated well. The chips were nice and crisp and lightly golden. Overall great food.<br/><br/>Service: Food timing was great, no long wait and friendly too. Our biggest issue was one of our group had his entire drink accidentally poured into his lap. It was replaced as well as his meal and in reasonable time. Our comment though was that at the time of paying, there was no apology and nothing was deducted or altered off the bill. Our view is that it is the fix that gives you the positive memory, and in this case if their was an apology at the time of paying and then his meal half price or free, we would feel satisfied it was recognised.<br/><br/>Ambience: Nice place, not too noisy, great establishment.
Tim
Very disappointing, had heard good things from others but ended up eating here, spending $100 for two + toddler, and then buying a pizza on the way home - their portions sizes are ridiculous especially for somewhere that is very much not fine dining - it's about half a step above a Burgerfuel meal for three times the price... If you've got food intolerances don't bother here, it doesn't seem the kitchen can do anything but what is on the menu, at least there was no attempt at all by the waiter to even find out what was possible. With a restaurant with beer in the name I would expect far more, 8 tap beers and some canned options (some not even in stock) is a pretty poor offering these days.

Great selection of food here. And beers too! Came here in my first week of coming to Wellington. Delicious food! Worth the visit if you get a chance.<br/>I had a burger can’t recall right now which one and my girlfriend had the ribs. <br/>So yummy.<br/>And i love it when a restaurant has a good selection of beers
Roxy Leppan
For a place that has meats in the name they dont have lots of red meat dishes, had been looking forward to ribs for hours and when I made my order they didn't have any? Sad. My brother ordered a ginger beer and what he got looked just bigger than two shots. Not enough drink to last him the 40 min wait for food (place was more than half empty at the time) for a burger. I'm sure this place used to have bigger portions but it is now smaller and not value for money at all. Both our chips were cold, and between us we got about 2 teaspoons of tomato sauce. Not going back, used to rate this place highly but its gone down hill.

Have been here a few times with friends and with my girlfriend whose vegetarian.  I Got some of the  chicken wings and they were absolutely delicious, best wings I have ever had. Though the menu is a little pricey the burgers are absolute worth it. Treat yourself ! the staff are very friendly and know the menu. <br/><br/>This place is usually really busy so get in early.

Underwhelmed.  We went here for dinner, by the time we ordered the place was not full, but still had to wait for over an hour for the food to arrive.  Once the food arrived they were luke warm.  The burgers and steak were overcooked and the buns were dry and stale.  Chip portions were tiny and half of the chips were scraps.  Would not return.

Went here in about June this year.<br/><br/>The first time I went about a year before I LOVED it. Was a great burger.<br/><br/>This time was ok. Burger pretty yum (not as good as the first time), but service very minimal, despite only having four tables and about five staff.<br/><br/>Would still go back, but the first time service was great; a shame to see it had slipped.

Stopped by for 'Friday' lunch today.  Went with the lunch special, Maple Grilled Chicken Thigh on Quinoa.  It was amazing for a $12 meal, great flavours and good portion size to last the afternoon without a nap under the desk.  My dining partner went for the Bull & Pig Burger, and was also very impressed with the perfectly cooked burger patty and complement of flavours with quality Bacon and Chunky Fries.<br/><br/>Will definitely be heading back soon to sample the menu further - and the extensive beer selection.

Tough steak. Was very tough. I chewed each piece at least 15-20 times not exaggerating. I asked for medium and it was pretty well done. Maybe it was a bad piece or left out way too long after cooking. I'm sad cause my friend hyped it up so much.<br/>The side mushroom it came with was to die for, as a side note. Service was too busy that night to come back and check to see how dinner went. Only came afterwards to clear the dishes. I would give 4 stars on mushroom alone but that piece of steak...

Went here for lunch and had the Wellington On A Plate burger. It was AMAZING! <br/><br/>Mr. Beefy<br/><br/>Cheese-stuffed pasture fed beef patty with Tuatara London Porter-braised beef brisket, bell peppers, jalapeño hot sauce and pilsner cheese sauce.<br/><br/>Really great service, quick to order and bring food out. A lovely way to break up the work day.

Very poor service. We went here just before 2pm, so not exactly lunchtime rush hour, but still had to wait for 30min for a table. Then had to wait for over 1 hour for burgers and chips. Are you joking? The place was packed but there seemed to be only two people cooking and few staff on the floor, who all seemed to be distressed. Food was ok but overpriced and portions were tiny. Would not return.
Damian Sharkey
Terrible experience. They got my order wrong. My burger order had 2 patties but they brought out 1. Then admitted they sent order to wrong table. Never again will I come here
Raina Mcnutt
Waitd half an hour for my chicken burger and chips, because they said the grill is cold. Waited ages. Only 10 chips. Ridiculous. I don't recommend coming here.

This place was buzzing - a full house with great fast service! The food was on point as well and at a reasonable price, you won't be disappointed. I had the popcorn fish and the chicken burger and I couldn't finish it all, it's safe to say that burger defeated me!! Yum. Can't wait to go back.

Just a short stroll up the road from Logan Brown is now Grill Meats Beer. From the same team, both establishments pay high attention to detail and order of service. Grill Meats Beer is of course takes a more relaxed approach. <br/><br/>Grill Meats Beer is exactly that. The menu has all your open grill staples, from steaks, burgers and ribs, to shared plates and nibbles. <br/><br/>In my opinion the starters impress over than the main dishes. Credit is due to the well balanced and intriguing flavours apparent in most entrees. <br/><br/>The restaurant itself is spacious and would cater well to large groups. The service was all-round friendly and attentive without being intrusive. <br/><br/>After the experience, my preconceived ideas of it being a glorified Lone Star were somewhat changed. Although the experience isn't anything like that of Logan Brown, that isn't what it's trying to achieve. It's perfect for a laid back night bite or a relaxed evening dinner with the family.

This place was super busy but luckily we were seated pretty quickly on a tall bar table. We ordered some beers, two starters and two steaks. While we were waiting for our food, a staff member asked us to remove our bags and jackets from a spare chair for another table- being a bar chair, there is no backing to hang our jackets or bags so we had to put them on the floor next to our feet- the staff didn't offer an option to hang up our jackets which was a pity. The starters arrived quickly but it was a good 40 mins before our mains arrived. My partner's steak looked good but mine was way too raw although we both asked for medium rare. No consistency considering it's a grill place. <br/><br/>The bathroom was also very dirty- water all over the floor. I understand it's a busy operation but if it doesn't warrant an excuse to provide unattended service.

Very busy when we arrived Saturday at 6.30 ish. Service staff were very accommodating and we waited at the bar looking over the grill for half an hour or so. Meal was great. 400g steak cooked rare to perfection, salmon, pork ribs, fish bites, duck and shitake dumplings, maple and truffle honey chicken with apricots. Service was courteous and speedy across the board and we watched the chefs "in the zone". A strong team that delivered admirably. Highly recommended.

Came here for dinner last night. My friend and I ordered Hot Nashville Chicken Burger and it was really good. I also loved the seasoning that they put on their chips. The waitress that served us was very helpful and friendly. It was a bit busy when we came but the service was surprisingly fast.

Won a competition on Facebook and got to try the 'Burger of the Week' with a friend. The EL JEFE was pretty good - beef patty was cooked medium rare and was seriously juicy. The service was good too, waitress was friendly and got our lunch real quick.
Goblin
I think this restaurant is overpriced and the food is average.  I don't mind a rare steak but draw the line at a very, very rare meat pattie and bacon.
Muffin Mum
Went for lunch today and even the teenager smiled.<br/> Love the idea of a simple burger menu but the burgers can be added to, also enjoyed the relaxed service and the eating. When the food arrived I did think the fries were on the light side but the serve was just right and the fries were very good and crispy. I had a sneaky Hushpuppy and that will now be a new habit. <br/>JFC was good too.

Went in for lunch as a group looking for a quick bite seeing as Fidels was overly noisy and busy. Had a bowl of olives and a beef burger with fries. Service was fast, olives were nice and warm. Burger was slightly on the greasy side but overall the store was clean, warm and in a great location.

Don't be afraid of the spice - it's just right! A superb burger and beer joint. So glad we found this on our travels and will most certainly pop back in on our next pass. Chicken Burger comes highly recommend. On a scale of 1 to Burger - this is Burger!

A group of 10 of us came here last night to celebrate a friends birthday.  We had all been a while ago and really enjoyed it.  This time sooo different.  Menus different the burgers are so small the size of the kids meal which is half the price.  One burger was raw and cold  in the middle and had frozen fries, which we had to send back to their credit they replaced it.  Most of our buns were burnt.  Service shocking, our waitress saw one of the group had tipped the  tomato sauce  on themself and did nothing to help.  Menus were only given to half of the party, and she kept yawning through service. Also three of the wines were not available.  So sad as we all enjoyed it last time we came, but we will not come again. Felt so sorry for the birthday girl who had chosen the place.
Jaynee
Food was fantastic and the concept of grill meats beer is the best thing ever! Beers were great and really complemented the meals. Steak was cooked perfectly, and mushrooms were amazing!

The best burgers in Wellington without a doubt, always a joy to come here. Chilli fries are amazing and theres a great selection of craft beers available. What more could you want?

Had our first lunch in Wellington here!!! It is a nice place with cozy atmosphere, staff is very friendly and warm. We ordered pork ribs and some baby cos~

The place was busy got sat down we said we were waiting for 2 other people. They said not to worry sit down look at the menus and order a few drinks while you wait. No worries feeling very happy with the place we picked. then the lady came along and asked us to order our drinks. That was fine we quickly gave our drinks (hadn't even looked at what was being offered). Then before the drinks had arrived we asked for our order (still waiting for the 2 other people for our order) she said you should be ready to order now you have been here long enough ( still waiting for 2 members of our group and our drinks hadn't been delivered yet) we said no not yet can you please come back. She did when the rest of the group had arrived and we orderd) the food was tasty. Then we asked if it was ok to get a birthday cake out (65th birthday dinner ) she said "yeah that's fine Ill charge the cakedge to your tab. We asked how much it was she then says $4 per person. There was 8 of us that $32 for some plates and a knife. We had already come on knowing that we would pay good money for the food. We didn't want candles or anything like that we just wanted to enjoy a gluten free cake that was home made with family and friends. We were absolutely disgusted with the service and will never return and recommend it to no one after the sour note this place had put on such a special day.
Bonnie Emma
Great little place for dinner. We had our daughter with us and service + food was great. Only marked down as we ordered starters but these were forgotten. They gave us fries on the house to compensate which was much appreciated however not having starters changed our dining experience. Otherwise a great place. Great atmosphere, great food.
Ohhh Neil
Had being meaning to go here for a while, meats and beer are my two favorite things! from the off did not get a good vibe off the place, very laxy casual service which is fine but not if you're in a rush and the place is not that busy. got wings to share which were really nice then for mains the ribs (which according to zomato and their actual website come with fries and are $22,  now $25 with no side) and the GMB classic burger. ribs were fine and burger also, nothing wrong with them but when your'e spending nearly $100 on a meal with drinks that's just "fine". would have rathered spent the money else where and got a good meal
LucyGoosey
Kind of disappointed with this place to be honest. The service is overly-relaxed which isn’t really my style. I’m not asking for silver service but the service here is too casual. The atmosphere and decor aren’t particularly intriguing. I had a beef burger which didn’t do anything for me. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t memorable. I wouldn’t be back here in a hurry.
James Cole
Great meal here, a great selection of food and beer, the steak was cooked perfectly with good sized portions and very good service. The recommended beer went well with the meal.
Just A Girl In A City
Me and my boyfriend arrived at this place for a nice dinner out. Being both post grad students at vic uni, we were dolled up for the occasion and wanted to go somewhere grown up. Not only were we approached by an attitude-loaded waitress, but offered us a place in the bar when clearly half the tables were empty. Not only this, but an older couple who arrived some time after managed to jump the queue and get a table before us. They had no reservation, as they practically shouted that it was great that they had a table spare. We left after a drink utterly humiliated and shunted aside. Next time students or young-pros come in, don't treat them any less you would with older customers. We do not appreciate it, and to this day have not gone back.

I have visited GMB several times and always enjoyed the service but we visited last Thursday night and were extremely disappointed by the food and service. We were served by a very surly waitress who I think was the Maitre D. We were not advised of any specials and her attitude was so abrupt that she made me feel terribly uncomfortable. We both ordered the ribs as these are usually the showstopper however I was shocked to find these have now increased in price to $25 and no longer come with chips. They used to do a lovely portion with a few fries for $22 which was perfect for one person. The ribs were great but that's where it stopped. We ordered a side of coleslaw and fries however the coleslaw did not arrive and I had to ask for it which I really wish I hadn't bothered especially for $7 a portion. The fries are now frozen bog standard fries which were awful. They used to do beautiful hand cut fries that were cooked to perfection. Extremely disappointing, I could have got better fries from the fish and chip shop over the road. They also used to serve the fries with a lovely bbq sauce or aioli instead we got cheap and nasty tomato ketchup.Overall GMB appears to have hiked their prices and forgone the quality. I always used to recommend this place to my friends but I am actually a bit embarrassed  I have sent people here if this was the quality of food and service they received. The ribs were good so I would return for these but nothing else and I would probably get take away to avoid being growled at.

This is a place I've been a few times but most recently came on Saturday night and tried the special burger on offer called Brie My Chick. It has deep fried Brie in it.. Yes! Service here is always good and the beer selection is nice and varied. If you're a simply a beer and steak guy - beware you're going to be out of your comfort zone! Just take a chance though and get a nice cold IPA, a big burger or the ribs and settle in for a primo feed.

Exactly what the name says succulently cooked meats with fantastic selection of craft beers to compliment your meal... this is the place for meat and bear lovers.. the ribs were extraordinary. Also the staff were joyful and attentive, even whilst the venue was very busy.... thank you...

GBM is a meat lovers treat! The meat is tender and succulent and the wait staff informative and punctual. Went there with bestie E and she got the GBM beef burger and I the Pork Ribs. We also started our meal off with JFC chicken with sirracha sauce and spicy chicken nibbles with blue cheese cream sauce which were delicious and perfect portions. The mains were filling and hearty. Only glitch was that a few of the extras and a request for cheese were forgotten but quickly amended and discounted for the inconvenience which was really sweet. <br/>Cute waiter too.

Amongst the growing number of smart-casual food joints in Wellington, Grill Meats Beer is certainly a hit with professionals. Passing by I'm often surprised at how busy the place is on a week night, and with this in mind, my friends and I decided to dine in on a Sunday lunchtime.<br/><br/>As expected the layout was crisp and stylish; the relaxing ambience was complemented with some awesome cubicles which we gladly seated ourselves in.<br/><br/>Our meals came out relatively fast. We had a beef burger, chilli chicken burger which came with chilli fries, and ribs. Our consensus was that the ribs were outstanding, smoky and with a hint of pale ale, but the portion was a little disappointing. The burgers were meaty and tasted great but once again portion size left much to be desired. Chilli fries were awesome and unique.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Ribs were ravishing.<br/><br/>Overall Grade: B

Came here a while ago with my boyfriend. We wanted to try something new. We were welcomed and then seated. I really like how its a open kitchen and you can see what the chefs are doing. Our food was delivered to us quite fast. It tasted pretty good to be honest. Its a bit pricey but its worth a try. Thank-you Grill Meats Beer staff for your great customer service and awesome food. Keep up the great work.
Adeline
Chilli fries were good. The burgers were good- the chicken burger was probably the best. The beef burgers were medium rare which isnt that great for people that dont like pink beef.
Royden Shierlaw
We went for a quick Saturday lunch and are so glad we did. Great food, good beer and fantastic friendly service. This was our first time there, but it won't be our last.

I believe that it is the concrete playground website that rated this place as the number one burger joint in Wellington. And to be fair they seemed to have it spot on. I'm not going to lie, the burger I had at burger liquor was far superior. But don't get it twisted, the burger here was great as well. I had the bull and pig burger that came with zombie hot sauce and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really like the small touches they do here as well, like the clip board menus and chopping board platters. I am a particular fan of the open kitchen as well, with the seating areas surrounding it looking in. <br/><br/>While I preferred the burger quality in burger liquor the eating experience at grill meats beer is far superior, from seating arrangements to room layout this is a fantastic restaurant.
Nadia Martinez
Very enjoyable meal. The service was pretty good as well didn't even need to ask for my water to be refilled, once they saw it half empty they filled it up. The food was good although the ribs were to dry for my liking.
Featured Eats
Burgers and beer. Beer and burgers. Throw in some ribs and steak and you have this place. Whilst the service was not great as it was busy, the food made somewhat made up for it. The ribs were a bit on the oversaucy side but still enjoyable.

Friday night. A craft beer and a burger was just the ticket!<br/><br/>A group of four, we were met by a very friendly member of the GMB team. You can't book unless you're in a larger party so we had a beer at the bar while we waited for our table. It was about 6.30pm, it was pretty busy but we got a table in about five minutes - which I think is not usual, I think we were lucky with the timing.<br/><br/>While we waited we sampled some of the craft beers on tap. The waitress who assisted us was really helpful and friendly, offering us tastes of each one. I went for an Emerson's Pilsner, my partner ordered an Emerson's shandy. They make their own homemade lemonade which is quite sharp. It was different, but nice.<br/><br/>Great ambiance with the music pumping, the trendy decor and the activity of the kitchen. A cool spot.<br/><br/>The menu was a bit same same but the burger descriptions sounded great. We ordered:<br/>•    The Bull & Pig with fried onions $24.50<br/>•    The GMB Classic Beef with cheese $22.00 (The cheese was $2.50)<br/><br/>All up, for two of us, we spent $67.50 <br/><br/>Only took about 15 minutes to get our mains which was good. <br/><br/>The burgers look great served on a wooden chopping board. They're a good size too. The mains come with chunky fries. You don't get many, but it's actually enough.<br/><br/>I have mixed opinions about the burger. Good quality beef and other ingredients and it was tasty, but there was something just not quite right. Despite everything that goes in the burger, it was lacking in flavour for me. Each element not as identifiable as I hoped. There was a hint of smokiness and I felt it distracted from the taste. I shouldn't have ordered the fried onions as they had a slight burnt taste to them. None of these things were significant but it did affect my enjoyment of the burger. I did enjoy the meal but it didn't quite hit the mark.<br/><br/>However, the overall experience was great. I will definitely return, but for the cost I feel it was a little overpriced.
Stacy Heyman
Accomodating staff, we didn't want to sit on the high stools and within ten minutes hey allowed us to sit on normal tables. Good gluten free buns and really good burgers! Best burgers in Wellington! Fish bites and Japanese fried chicken were also really tasty - fresh, hot and crunchy. Delicious.
Mya Huo
A bloody dry burger, you have to order a beer for swallowing, otherwise you can't handle this. Many people said how good the burger is, but it not met my expectation.
Miss J
We ate here today and it took a while for our orders, its probably because they have lots of customer. I was a bit disappointed with their japanese fried chicken and fish popcorn as they look so oily and nothing so special.. Fish and chips under junior menu was very small as well. You can count the chips.. I had the ribs, and they were very dry.. The flavour is good though but im sure they can still improve it.. My partner had the visa on a plate burger and lamb. I asked him how was it? And he said its alright.. I found it very spicy and you wouldnt appreciate the taste of grilled chicken in the burger anymore. I spent over a hundred but not very satisfied. The staffs are friendly and have good manners though..So we still voted for their burger for wellington on a plate. The ice cream was good by the way!

This is a commentary on the Wellington on a plate burger. <br/><br/>Hands down the best I have tasted this year. Juicy chicken. Fab bacon. Excellent bun. Super tasty salad. <br/><br/>The fries - tossed in hot sauce were out of this world. <br/><br/>Paired with the matching white mischief beer and it's heaven. <br/><br/>Hope this makes the permanent menu. Kids also enjoyed their regular burgers. <br/><br/>We say at the counter and watched the frantic kitchen at work in this buzzy and busy restaurant. <br/><br/>Go. Enjoy.

Great grilled burger, delicious and big dish. The extra mushrooms were very good option. The hand cut fries excellent !!!! The staff very nice and friendly.

Friday night for their Burger Wellington entry. The place was HEAVING but our group had booked(fortunately). 8 Burgers quickly ordered and we were warned that there could be a bit of a wait due to how busy it was. No one was timing but it felt like they were in front of us sooner than predicted(nice!). Resounding positive comments about the burger and chunky fries, managed to also squeeze in the ice cream dessert as well. Service was friendly and efficient, would happily go back to check out the rest of the menu

We had a booking for a group of 8 but still<br/>Had to wait an hour for a table. We were there with a great group of people so just had a drink at the bar (which was very crowded) once seated the food was really yummy which made up for the wait. Might try again another day when we don't mind waiting. The Japanese chicken was to die for.

Just had dinner here for the second night and it is an awesome place. Great service, fantastic food but the atmosphere is what makes it special - watching the chefs prepare the food and work like a well oiled machine under pressure while taking the time to talk to patrons is fantastic.  Well done to all but especially Kayden. Cheers from the Aussies. Xx

We came here on Thursday 9th July and wow it was amazing. Great atmosphere and even better service. The staff made sure that we were looked after even with a full house. I ordered a homemade lemonade which was delish and my partner got a Panhead craft beer which he absolutely loved. We were seated at the bar for maybe 10min then were seated and the excellent service continued. I didn't realise how long we were waiting but the staff made sure to let us know how far away our meals were. We ordered the fried chicken mmmmmm and for mains we ordered the ribs and my partner ordered the devils advocate. Both meals were amazing and we will definitely be back. Thanks to the wonderful staff u guys made the wait well worth it.

Came here for the first time on a busy Saturday night for dinner and a wine. We were seated at the bar in front of the chefs. I loved the atmosphere and the layout of the place. It was cool to watch the chefs make the food and plate up the burgers which looked amazing. I'm not a vegetarian but I went for a vegetarian dish that was a mushroom double down with halloumi. The staff were super friendly, helpful and engaging in their conversations. Our drinks came out super fast and the place was buzzing nicely. Our food was super quick considering how many people were in the restaurant. The food was amazing, I was so satasfied with my choice and the combination of ingredients went so well together. The chips were cooked to perfection and there was a yum onion bhaji type thing that was served with it. I definitely will be returning and recommending this place to others! 10/10

Had the fried chicken, and the devils advocate. And my goodness it was the best. Devils advocate came with chilli fries and with high expectations of fiery spice. Although it's wasn't that spicy with the jalapeños, habanero May and the ghost chilli sauce, it really did hit the spot. We had to share the burger as they were reasonably big. <br/>Our waitress was amazing, she was always attentive and fully engaged in the work and passionate about the food. Great to make small chit chat with such an enthusiastic person

we went here for lunch. we ordered fish popcorn, chicken wings, chicken burger, a beef burger and the steak. Everything was quite nice. the wait staff were very good. This place is good if you want nice burgers and beer.

Awesome place to eat. We went as a big group and they were so accommodating super friendly staff and the food was amazing. It is certainly a place to visit when you are in Wellington

Burgers are amazing at a reasonable price. Service is awesome. I like the way the wait staff treat the newbie customers. They were very helpful.

Under $100 for 2 people full meals with drinks on valentines day. <br/><br/>Pretty top notch by my standard. <br/>Service was amazing.<br/>Great range of craft beers to go with the moving trend.

Dined here over the new year and they definitely deserve the title of kickass burgers, some of the best eating around. Located close to several other good dine in and take outs, if you're on holiday this is a quality area to visit and eat in

Came in on a busy friday evening with a group of six of us, they managed to fit us in after a 20min wait (which was absolutely ok) food was well worth the wait, great atmosphere and friendly staff, our waitress a canadian lady refered us to a nice "cocktail bar" down the road we got quiet excited about it and started our night off at this particular bar, got their and realised it was a gay bar! Maybe she thought us group of 6 ladies had something goin on i dont know whatever her intentions where, however we did have a laugh and the cocktails were indeed delish. <br/>

Had the GMB ABC chicken burger which came with shoestring fries. Was very delicious. Would definitely eat again and recommend! Great atmosphere and set up.

We finally got a table!!! And we were given the best table in the house as well. It was a booth big enough for the kids to lounge in as we happily waited for our food. <br/><br/>We wanted a light dinner... Wrong place to go ????<br/><br/>Everything went down a treat! We had the Japanese Fried chicken, the Beef Short Rib, Beef Brisket, sourdough bread and Corn as sides. And because of our boy, we ordered chips as well. <br/><br/>The experience would've been really good had the waitress not forget our desserts!!! To be fair, she did run to our table and say she forgot about them. It didn't take long though for the desserts to come though. <br/><br/>I shall return to try the burgers and sticky ribs... Oh I shall.

Great place for lunch.  We walked in off the street at 12 when the doors opened and got a table by the window. Our waitress was pleasant, and warned us that the Chicken Burger would take a while to ensure it was cooked properly.  My daughter had the Chicken Burger and enjoyed it.  I ordered the Pulled Pork Sloppy Joe from the Blackboard menu. It was delicious, including the Apple & Fennel Slaw.  Very drippy, though (reason why it was called a Sloppy Joe). I added a glass of Emerson's Pilsner which went very well with the meal.  Price very acceptable for lunch.  Not so sure about the T-shirts the staff were wearing, which had this written across the back: "My favourite animal is MEAT"!<br/><br/>I was very pleased to try out this newish place, having read about it a few months ago.  Not living in Wellington, this was my first opportunity.  The ambiance of the place is stylish casual - not a lot to look at so if you aren't into talking heaps it would help to sit near the window.

I've dined here several times now and I'm yet to be disappointed! It's usually fairly full on a weekend so get in early if you don't want to wait, but they've got a great bar to grab a drink and some 'beerginnings' while you're waiting for your table. (Try the Japanese fried chicken OMG). The food is awesome, both times we've had the beef brisket which is a must, and last time they had a new burger with a really long name, shortened to Bull and Pig I think which is out of this world with bacon aioli - YUM.  <br/>What a great addition to Cuba St, the service is totally on par with the food, and the service staff and chefs are always up for a good chat. Try and sit up at the kitchen for the full experience!

Had no hassles getting a table for the two of us. Warmly greeted and service throughout the evening was great.<br/><br/>Started with the fish popcorn. The fish was a bit overwhelmed by the batter, but the melt-in-your-mouth textures of the fish and the mayo saved it. Though it was admittedly pricey for what I got.<br/><br/>We each opted for the burgers: there were two on the menu: beef and chicken. The beef burger was simple but juicy, generous patty, satisfying. The chicken burger was interesting with bacon mayo (or aioli) and battered onion, similar to tempura fried vegetables in taste and texture, but didn't live up to expectations partly because of the dryness and blandness of the fried onion. The buns were perfect, however, and the accompanying shoe string fries were okay (though for a place of this calibre, I would've expected hand cut fries/potatoes).<br/><br/>All in all, enjoyed myself and think I should've tried more on the menu. It may have been unfair to judge Grill Meats Beer on burgers and fish bites alone, but oh well.

One of my favourite places in Wellington at the moment! It's fresh and funky, always packed and lively. The staff are super friendly and recommend their true favourites. I never feel like they are trying to oversell me stuff. The food is yum, and it's really cool to see it come together while having chat to the chefs from the open kitchen.  I am not a beer drinker, but they have lots of wines for sale by the glass, which is cool. I have taken lots of people there and, even though I sometimes have to wait a bit for a table, the bar snacks are awesome and the experience a 10. I recommend ordering the bavette. I had it the last time and it's a surprisingly good piece of meat for a very reasonable $14.50!
Esther Consedine
Mmmm, I wanted to love this place but sadly I left underwhelmed with the ambience, staff and food! I can see what they're trying to do with the decor but it's fallen somewhere between American Diner meets bland cafe style. The menu looks really promising, just the right amount of choice with a distinct meat and grill feel. We ordered the hoisin ribs which my husband and 5 year old all really enjoyed! To follow I had the Welly on a plate burger, my husband the rib eye, which was much anticipated. The burger was good, the steak was ok - like it had been sitting for a while stewing in its juices. He left a few mouthfuls which is incredibly rare! The staff tried to be attentive when they came to our table, but they just didn't feel genuine - and walked back to the counter to continue their side conversation about the weekend - not a good look! We had lemonade and water and it came to a pretty hefty $100! Pricey and it just didn't follow thru :-(

First time out to GRILL MEATS BEER and was taken back by the level of service and commitment by the staff to deliver an overall experience second to none. Not from Wellington and with a particular palate i was some what apprehensive about heading out to eat.. I cannot thank the team there enough. i had the steak meal with potato and kumera salad and with hand on my heart say it was the best steak meal i have had in my life and look forward to eating there again! <br/>WELL DONE TEAM HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!! 10/10 :D

Our family group of 6 rocked up on a Sunday in June and luckily got a booth. The service and food on the whole were pretty good for this upmarket pub type of bistro. The only disappointment were the two coleslaws. Instead of crunch and beautiful flavours promised by the menu we got over chilled slaws that had been prepped at least a day previously . I would go back if my restaurants of choice in Cuba St were too busy
Jan
Agree with the other post, not allowed to sit at a table until the 3rd person arrived (some 4 minutes later), sat somewhere else, then told we couldn't sit there either and eat but we could have bar snacks only if we sat at those bar stools, confusing. I would use the words - bossy and not at all welcoming. It felt like we should be grateful to be there, there are lots of other great places in Welly that offers good service, will never go back which is a shame as the food was nice.
Ruben_sosa
Uninspired, food was decent (as you'd expect from owners of LB) although meatballs were only OK the sauce they arrived in was beautiful. Was a bit put off by shoestring fries with the burgers, would of thought hand cut chunky chips would be better. Major problem was the beer list, I'd heard this was meant to be craft beer &amp; food on equal terms-only 4 taps &amp; 2 of them Lion Nathan owned isn't really going to cut it in Welly anymore, hopefully this will be rectified soon?
Ginger
I had been keen to check this place out, but was pretty disappointed - in particular with the beer claim. You need more than 4 taps to claim any 'beer' title in the craft beer capital. The meatballs, ribs and the steak were all good, but a larger menu of small dishes (perhaps without the burger option?) was more what I was expecting, based on the idea of beer and tapas.<br/>One last thing - have you really got a make up policy? It seemed hard to believe that 3 female waiting staff all choose the same bright red lipstick. Isn't dictating how women should look more than a little outdated?
James Scott
Three occasions now I have visited Grill Meats Beer and every time it has been absolutely outstanding. The prices are great for what you get and the service perfect. It really shows the Logan Brown name which is behind it. Great quality produce cooked well and served at a lesser price than LB. A great idea. I shall be returning more and more. Thank you.

Disappointing. We two arrived at 5pm..was told to sit where we liked but then told we'd have to move if it got busy...hmm. Table water was warm. Ribs are short ribs....8 or so for $18. More sauce than meat. Silly us thought you'd get ribs like Lone Star or Gasworks. Fries came unseasoned &amp; we had to ask for salt. According to the front of desk...our expections are not theirs. The people next to us were served beer in warm glasses. Need more bang for buck!

Today was my second visit to Grill Meats Beer, and both times i have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, The decor is streamline and funky, the staff are efficient and attentive with out being in your face, but the reason to visit is the food! my partner and i shared JFC and the pop corn fish both were great and a really good portion size, for a main i had the chicken burger when i first saw it i thought it looked a bit small but it was so filling and tasted out of this world! my partner had a steak with cafe DE Pari butter which he really enjoyed. We will defiantly be going back again!

I have visited Grill Meats Beer about 5 times now (introducing new people to the place each time!) and have made my way around all the mains bar the bavette steak (which a friend's father has had and raved about it).<br/><br/>Needless to say, I love the place! Atmosphere is great, huge selection of boutique beers and the food is to die for. The prices look pricey but to be honest, my bill has never been more than $70 per head including beers and I have been well satisfied each time (and this comes from someone who ate a 1kg burrito the other day!).<br/><br/>Life tip: always order the JFC (Japanese Fried Chicken). The Popcorn Fish and the Spanish meatballs are also favourites and the Smoked Kingfish Croquette specials we had one time were absolutely amazing.<br/><br/>In regards to the mains, the rib-eye steak looks as good as it tastes. Ribs are meaty and tasty but probably not something you should order on a first date (although if you are a guy &amp; the girl orders ribs, she's a keeper!).<br/><br/>The beef burger is absolutely amazing and the patty is cooked medium-rare which gives it so much flavour. Tip: add bacon and an egg to complete the burger. <br/><br/>If you think the beef burger is good, then you will reach food heaven if you order the chicken burger. Words are not enough to describe it. Just try it. You won't be disappointed. I had this burger before the Hurricanes v Blues game in the weekend and I was able to ease the pain of the loss by thinking back to the chicken burger I had earlier that night.<br/><br/>Burgers now come with fries for no extra cost which is good to see as no burger is complete without fries!<br/><br/>I'm a sucker for a chocolate sundae and the malt sundae dessert is just perfect with its salted caramel sauce. Highly recommended.<br/><br/>Have heard people have issues with table wait times (suspect wait times were greater during the first few weeks of opening), but I have never had to wait more than 20 mins. Last Saturday, even though the place was pumping, my mate and I were in and out in just over an hour.

I'm really surprised to read these bad reviews! I went with some girlfriends the other night and we had a great night. Lively atmosphere, lovely service and a some cheeky wines made for a fun night. We shared the popcorn fish(yum), the JFC (double yum) the meatballs and the brisket to start and they were all great. The only one I didn't love was the venison salami but I think that was because i was expecting more of a oily type than a jerky style salami so not a biggie. <br/><br/>My chicken burger was superb- super juicy and i loved the addition of the onion knots. Others at the table tried out the ribs with different sauces which were great - would definitely go back and get those next time. With the addition of shared salads and fries most people were pretty stuffed. <br/><br/>Being a piggie I had dessert - Black Doris Eton Mess- amazing!!! Keep. Thinking. About. It. <br/><br/>Overall I thought it was pretty good value - a restaurant main for under $25 in Wellington is a bargain. I'll be back . Well done GMB!

I've now been to Grill Meats Beer a handful of times and can honestly say I have absolutely nothing to complain about!!! Fantastic, friendly and helpful staff who are attentive and energetic. Food is fresh and tasty and has definitely left me coming back for more. The beef burger patty is SO delicious and the popcorn fish is just SO good...as well as everything else I have tried everything is just so yum. Not being a beer drinker, they still have a great selection of wine and champagne which made my experience even better. Fabulous service, delicious food and a fun, relaxed atmosphere has made Grill Meats Beer one of my new favourites. See you again soon!

- Very small menu<br/>- Not good beer selection (very expensive too!)<br/>- Very tiny toilet area<br/>- Tasty meat but small amount for the price you are paying<br/>- Buns are tasteless<br/>- Nice desert<br/><br/>Would I go there again? Mmmm... No, I don't think so! :o)
Rachel P.
Like other people have said, the price of the food doesn't reflect the amount or quality. If I'm paying $20 for just a burger, it should be a really gourmet burger. It doesn't come with fries - they're an extra $5. What arrived at the table was an average sized burger with okay taste. Good place to go to once just to try it out. But there's nothing on the menu that makes me eager to go back a second time. Great concept - falls down in execution.

Congratulations, what a great place. Fantastic atmosphere and character. The staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive with really genuine smiles. As soon as you walk in you get the feeling the party is just starting. As you would expect, the food is tasty, delicious and well presented. It really wakes up the taste buds. Some of the tap beers change on a regular basis so you can try out new ones. Great place for first date, 50th anniversary, grandma's birthday or hang out with some friends. Grill Meats Beer is not Logan Brown lite, it is its own place with its own character. And I will be going back again and again. I do like the T shirts.

Pretty much as others have said.<br/><br/>It's a real nice idea, and the place looks good with great atmosphere. The food though lets them down.<br/><br/>We ordered the Fresh Pork &amp; Fennel Sausage, Grainy Mustard, Pickles ($13) which was literally just a large sausage (raw in the middle) with the tiniest amount of pickles, mustard, and toasted bread to accompany it. Pretty average.<br/><br/>I had the grilled chicken burger, and while it was certainly tasty, for $19.50 I'd expect something much larger. I could go down the road to any of the other burger places and get something that's not only cheaper but tastes just as good or better. <br/><br/>My friend had the beef burger which was just a huge chunk of meat, a leaf of lettuce, some sauce between two buns. Very overpriced for $19.50, the very least they could do would be to throw in a slice of cheese. <br/><br/>All in all the menu wasn't particularly impressive. The range of meat dishes was small.<br/><br/>I've seen the replies to the other reviews her, going on about the quality of the ingredients and how they mince their own meat. That's all good, but it doesn't really count for much when the product they deliver is disappointing. <br/><br/>The range of beers was good though.
Gayle Westney
Gets one star for the atmosphere only. Ridiculously expensive - $19.50 for a beef burger - containing one beef patty and a leaf of lettuce and a little mayonnaise. The beef was tasty - not the dry bun which had not even been toasted.<br/><br/>On the side we had chips for $5 which were the size of a measuring cup and a fennel and apple slaw for $7 which came in an even smaller bowl (a finger bowl really).<br/><br/>I feel robbed. Not going back.
S D
I probably would have given this place a "1", but our server was very nice, so you guys at least get a star for hospitality.<br/><br/>If you don't mind paying up the wazoo for some average meat and beer, then this place is for you. <br/><br/>I was looking forward to "Grill Meats Beer". Obviously my first thoughts were, Awesome - I'm gonna get some killer carnivorous dishes and local brews. I was greatly disappointed. <br/><br/>Our beers choices were limited to some very expensive bottled brews, or a choice of the four beers they had on tap, which came in what looked like kids size glasses. Didn't realize I was ordering a happy meal!<br/><br/>We started with the brisket entree, which was nice enough, but seemed pretty expensive for a few pickles, some bread, english mustard, and the cheapest cut of meat there is.<br/><br/>For our mains, I ordered the half rack of ribs and my partner ordered the Banh Mi. I was floored when those ribs came to the table. Five tiny little ribs on a bare wooden board? For $18? Even if you had put a baked potato or some other classic rib-pairing next to them on the board it would have made the dish look heaps bigger, and the potato would have cost the restaurant about $0.20. The sandwich was nice enough, but nothing we couldn't get down the road for half the cost.<br/><br/>Sorry guys, but you gotta up your game! Don't put "Meat" and "Beer" in your title if you're not ready to dish out some better stuff. As far as I'm concerned, putting a few little ribs on a fancy looking platter doesn't make the ribs look any bigger.

I have been to Grill Meats Beer twice now, the concept of the place itself is cool as sh*t. The atmosphere is upbeat and this hang out seems to appear equally to both young and older folk, individuals, couples and families. The staff were extremely welcoming and onto it, our orders were delivered promptly and our glasses never empty. I love that the kitchen is in view of its customers and the ladies look slick for service with their red pouts to brighten a casual but clean uniform. The JFC was recommended to me by a friend and did not disappoint. The burgers have delicious large steaks of succulent meat and I was impressed to hear it was the only joint in town to mince their own beef burgers every day! I had a simple sundae for dessert , but I drooled for more. I thoroughly enjoyed my couple of experiences at GMB and will be back for more and smash through that beer list! A great place to drink and dine for all ages and occasions!
Susan Harding
I have to give this establishment a 3 as my fellow diners loved their steaks however for me it was more a 1. We have been eagerly awaiting our opportunity to go here as we love meat and the new styles of eateries that have opened up of late in Wellington. The ambiance is excellent, as are the staff, and the whole concept including the open kitchen. <br/>The starters were excellent and the JFC exactly like Japanese karage! We ate these at the bar waiting for our table which was great. <br/>For my scotch and coke it would have been nice to be told you don't use real" coke" but a horrid cola. Thinking it was the scotch I then ordered a coke and couldn't drink that either. I switched to a pretty ordinary Margarita. <br/><br/>My fellow diners ordered the steak and bavette and were pleased. Two of us wanted the pork but you can't order this until after 9 pm (it was 8:45) so I went the burger. $20 for a small tasteless burger with no sides. It was not rare but raw therefore tasteless. I had to pay extra for cheese and beetroot and slaw. So an inedible burger cost me $29. <br/>The ribs were ordinary too. I can cook better at home was a comment I heard. <br/>So generally disappointed at the lack of choice for Meat and taste. However, a great idea and ambience. Unfortunately there is better in Wellington and I won't be coming back.
Olivier Lacoua
We had dinner yesterday, great concept! we love the ambiance and the food was exceptional, we choose the Bavettes which were cooked to perfection and well presented on a wooden board dish. Very good price value too, just under $20. The service was very attentive despite the place being very busy but felt like a relaxed and funky atmosphere. I am sure David Burton, from the Dom Post food critic will confirm all the above as I saw him enjoying his dinner couple of tables away from us... Will definitely return, and recommend to all my friends and colleagues!
Vy Luu
We went here for Sunday lunch &amp; were really impressed. The staff were lovely &amp; the kids liked the colouring in pencils &amp; activity sheet provided.<br/><br/>We tried about 2/3 of the menu &amp; loved the food. Our 4yr old loved it so much that he asked if we could go back for dinner that night too.<br/>I would definitely recommend the JFC chicken bites &amp; the salmon was amazing!!<br/><br/>Definitely going back there soon :)
Rich Sherriff
I'm a sucker for beer, and I like food almost as much. While I wouldn't consider myself a connoisseur of ribs as such, I have consumed a fair amount of ribs around the traps, and Grill's are about as good as they get. If I had to choose which is better I'd go for the hoppy, sweet one.<br/><br/>Burgers are simple things, but often the simplest things are the hardest to get right. At Grill they grind their own meat daily, which I'd like to think most establishments do (probs don't though). The whole package was great - succulent pattie, cheese, ketchup, all in a bun I can hold and eat without a knife and fork. Chin wipeingly good.<br/><br/>The beer list is great, particularly the Garage Project VPA. I'll be back for more.

My wife and I work on Cuba Street, we have no kids and a great social life so eat out in the city a couple of times a week. We were excited when we saw grilled meats beer opening and tried on two occasions to eat there, once it was an hours wait ( to be expected for a new restaurant) and the second time was on a Monday and they were shut.<br/><br/>Finally we got in early one Sunday, four of us arrived but the waitress wouldn't let us have a table until the fifth and final member of our group was with us. so we had a drink to wait the whole 3 minutes the tap beer came in a tiny tiny glass that felt like a "taster" or sample glass, it said it was 330ml but so is a bottle and this felt way less.<br/><br/>We ordered the venison salami and the Korean fried chicken to start, both were good.<br/><br/>We then had a burger and ribs.<br/><br/>The burger:<br/>The burger was tiny, and for $19.50 you got no sides. Fries and slaw were an additional $5, very disappointing, to be honest I would go across the street to laundry and grab a better burger for half the price.<br/><br/>The ribs:<br/>Ok $18 I got 4 measly ribs! 4 RIBS?? is this a joke, the sauce was good, but there was not much meat on them.<br/><br/>The wait staff were very slow, and did not once come over to ask if everything was alright, they didn't ask us if we wanted more drinks, and it wasn't that busy.<br/><br/>I think they have missed the point and a great opportunity with this place, poor portion sized, overpriced, and average food.<br/><br/>The bill was $75, we left feeling very disappointed and still hungry, Wellington is a foodies heaven there are many many many restaurants way better and far cheaper!
Charles Finny
Be early, or be late, otherwise expect a wait.<br/><br/>i have eaten here twice, and enjoyed the experience. Food exactly as I wanted it and good service. Both times I sat at the bar observing the kitchen.<br/><br/>My only criticism would be the non- availability of the bottle of wine I selected on my second visit.<br/><br/>Great addition to the Wellington food scene. Hopefully it will open 7 nights.
Natalie Barrs
I ate here for my birthday last week and can happily say that I wasnt disappointed in the slightest. The hardest part of the night was picking what I wanted to eat as everything on the menu sounded absolutely enticing. I had the JFC as a starter and ribs as the main and was competely blown away with both.<br/>Grill Meats Beer have an extensive list of craft beers to choose from, along with some alternatives if your not a beer drinker.<br/>The atmosphere is great and the service was fantastic, the staff did anything and everything to make sure we had all we needed and we weren't ignored at all even on a very busy night.<br/>Since then ive been back a couple of times and will definitely make sure I go back on a regular basis.
Fleur
I loved this place and have been back twice now in it's opening week. I can't understand the other reviews getting upset at it not having any steak when it doesn't claim anywhere to be a steakhouse! It had a grill, it had meat and it had beer - in my book, it did exactly what it said on the tin and you can't fault them for that. We have now tried most of the nibbly, small plate, entree things - the stand outs being the beef brisket, the popcorn fish and the JFC. I've had the chicken burger on both occasions for a main and added cheese and they've both been 2 of the best burgers I've ever had, and good burgers are hard to find, particularly in Wellington. On my second trip there they had sold out of the brioche buns and were using an alternative which I actually preferred - maybe there could be a choice in future? Their onion knots are my new addiction, and on both nights I've squeezed in the chocolate sundae dessert and not been disappointed. The atmosphere is upbeat and funky - in my opinion the lights could be dimmer and the music louder but that could just be personal preference. The service to date has been so warm and welcoming, delivered by staff who seem to genuinely love their new jobs. I'm enjoying this new addition to Cuba Street and look forward to visit number 3.

I want to start out by saying I really, really wanted to love this place. <br/><br/>The setup looks amazing with the kitchen flowing elegantly through the middle of the restaurant and very cool décor. Wellington needs a restaurant like this.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, the in-restaurant experience as much as I wanted it to, just didn't live up to the expectation created by such a good looking restaurant. So rather than ramble I thought I'd share a few thoughts....<br/>1. for a grill it felt like such a limited menu. For the mains their were only 3 "meat" options: Beef Burger, Chicken Burger or Ribs.<br/>2. The burger coming out on a chopping board was a funky look - but it was just weird having this big chopping board and such a small "large" burger. It looked so lonesome and sad in a way. I'd suggest there should be an option for a side of fries which would also come out on the chopping board. $5 for a separate side of fries just feels excessive and leaves the burger looking, unfortunately, exposed.<br/>3. The Beer - great to see another craft beer eatery! <br/>However, this must be the smallest beer in town. It does say on the menu the beer glass is 330ml but again unfortunately the glass better resembles a taster than a beer.<br/>4. Toilets, When you opt for co-shared toilets it becomes a bit of a test of male customers ability to shoot accurately (or lack of in this case). For my girlfriend lets just leave it at as the bathroom experience was slightly less than ideal which is perhaps a sadder indictment of us men than anything else.<br/><br/>But on the positive I thought the beef burger was tasty, you could definitely appreciate the quality meat. The plum flavoured ribs were very enjoyable....and to summarise I just can't help but think with a bit of refinement this place could be awesome because I really, really want to love it.

Certainly won't be going back. The menu leaves a lot to be desired but the hope was what little they had on offer they would do well. (For a steakhouse - there was no steak to be seen) Unfortunately this was not the case. For a "burger joint" only two burgers where on offer both in large or mini size. When you question if a burger on the pass is the large or mini you know things are not going well. My friend and I ordered the beef and to say the meat Pattie was 200g would be a push. The meat was rubbery and over cooked, the bun dry and the barley salad (served in a dipping bowl) uneatable.<br/>Though feedback was initially welcomed, the attitude of staff quickly changed when they did not hear what they wanted. Potentially the worst meal I have had in Wellington.

I want to give this place a 2 and a half. Had the usual slip ups for a new establishment (long waits, forgotten side dishes, vacant staff) which will all be improved in good time! <br/>The reason I am hesitant to go back is because of the price. The portions were too small and the food too simple for what we paid. I don't care if the ingredients are sourced from the best locations, it doesn't justify charging my friend $13 for one sausage. It was a beautiful sausage, but not worth $13. I am very disheartened to say that the Ruby Slaw didn't taste like much. It was $6 and came in a dip bowl.<br/>It's early days yet. Once they get used to their 'audience' things may change and I'll be happy to go back. I think this place could become really special to Cuba St.

I was really looking forward to the place as I loved the concept being from the States and as a Texan, love great grilled meat! I would give the establishment more like 2 1/2 stars then 2. There was plenty of buzz about the place and the atmosphere felt welcoming from the start, staff and service warm, friendly and fairly swift. We sat at the high tops in the bar to wait 30 minutes for a table on Anzac day, not unreasonable. We ordered the bread plate and The JKC, a Japanese styled fried chicken apps. The price was right at 7$ each, I believe. The disappointment was in the underplating and particularly ordinariness of the dishes. 5 pieces of very plain, regular toasted baguette, not even cut on the angle, so 5 small pieces of bread with an underwhelming aioli sauce. The JKC chicken dish was flavorful but 7 small pieces, at least more then the decidedly cheaper to make bread dish. I can't remember the sauce, it didn't make an impression at all. The only meat choices seemed to be two kinds of burgers and ribs for the mains. When we saw how small the burger was (though the bun dwarfed it) and the rib platters were, that others ordered, we decided to leave after the appetizers. There just wasn't good enough value for money in my opinion. <br/><br/>I did like the ambience and service seemed well trained but I like better value for my money and we went across the street to spend quite a bit on steaks and BBQ at El Matador.

With a name like "grill meats" my husband and I went with high expectations...but unfortunately there was a disconnect between the name/concept and the actual menu. Not a steak or chop in sight. The menu was...disappointing to say the least for the meat lovers we are. Mainly pork ribs and burgers with a few oddities thrown in. The kimchi and Japanese fried chicken were alright. My chicken burger was good. Nothing too special. <br/><br/>Also, bizarrely for the casual nature of the place, we had to give a credit card in advance. Didn't feel quite right. Other than that the staff and service were good.
