Review Kilim - Wellington

Rithu Lal
Must Try: Mixed Grill! Every meat was tender and juicy. The rice was tight and mushy (not sure if you would understand what I mean😂). Will be here again soon!

Actually fantastic. This place is is amazing when it comes to quality, flavour, value, speed and vegetarian options. Huge menu with everything you’d need. Chips were particularly nice and crispy. Also like the generous portions of sauces that came with the salads. Would 100% return.

Yum yum. Absolutely our office lunch go-to spot. Healthy options and reasonable prices when you compare food portions. Get the mixed escenda with garlic yoghurt.. Yum!

Had food taken away countless times, good stuff.

We visited Kilim at lunch hour on the weekend. The meals and all the other foods and desserts we ordered were really huge portions.. Service is excellent, cheerful, nimble and very efficient staff members.. The Turkish food is very tasty, quite different from typical other cuisines that restaurants generally serve. The place is very cozy, has a great ambience and is very neat and clean.. There are a few options for vegetarians too and is a really fantastic place for meat lovers.. Good place for anyone with a good appetite and for people who like to experiment with non stereo typical cuisine.. Our over experience was really nice, certainly worth a second and third visit, to try out the other stuff being served..

Busy wee place, staff are friendly and engaging, food arrived quickly and was delicious. Mixed Grill is a great combo of tender meat, fresh salads and tasty sauces - highly recommend.

Great portions and great food. Never felt unsatisfied at all coming here! staff are all super friendly too

This is one of our favourite Turkish places. It's always extremely busy but they are pretty quick, staff can be a bit abrupt. The food is great, pic is of the chicken mixed grill. Everyone enjoyed their food - kebabs , chips and iskenders. Everything is hot and fresh, we've been here many times and it's always great quality. You can't book which is a bit annoying when you are going in a group and specifically want to come here. Price is reasonable, my meal was about $19 and was huge. I think a large kebab was $15, if you want a small one then you need to specify otherwise they will assume large. You used to be able to byo but noticed a sign last night to say that's no longer available.

Liked the wrap here. Small eatery always a good place to be after your shopping Edit: an year later and nothing much has changed, lovely food lovely people, great ambiance. The lamb guvec and falafel were delicious, topped it up with a baklava.

OVERALL: 8 / 10. VALUE: good portions, average price range. SERVICE: fast and efficient. FOOD: good flavour, however takeaway salads are pre-made and not in refrigeration. AMBIENCE: a bit noisy, ok for families and groups. *Reviewed takeaway salad bowl.

One of the best turkish food you will get in town. The place is soo cozy and with a beautiful turkish setting all over with lights and carpets. They offer iskenders, kebabs, grilled chicken and a variety of salads. The Baklava Tiramisu Turkish Delight is a must try here. The iskender meal has rice, Mayonnaise, tomato sauce, green salad, donut and hummus.

A really good Turkish place in the middle of Petone. Food is good, plentiful and tasty. The lamb and chicken dishes are my favorite.
Brendan
Food is great, super tasty, quick service, make sure you book in advance as they are always crazy busy. We go here a bit and never leave disappointed. Highly recommend.

Well designed Turkish place in Wellington. The place has a real Turkish vibe with all that Middle Easter ornaments. Menu is authentic Turkish menu with a touch of western cuisine but some of the main foods are not served in authentic and traditional way. For example Iskender kebab which is a very famous Turkish food and should be served on chopped Turkish bread and sauce, in this restaurant is served on rice. Staff are really friendly and polite. We ordered mixed grill plate, Adana burger and lamb güvec. I also inquired if they serve Ayran (Turkish yogurt drink) but the answer was no. Also place doesn’t serve alcohol but is a byo. Adana burger was food of the night for us. Authentic taste and decent size. It was spicy and this is the real Adana style food. Mixed grill was ok but really poor presentation. Everything was thrown in a plate with some salad and beetroot deep and a piece of Turkish bread which was covered with beetroot deep. My friend who doesn’t like beetroot was pretty upset so I swapped my bread with him. Güvec was really nice, well cooked and presented also really spicy which shouldn’t be! Actually all of our orders were spicy but it can be a misunderstanding from our side as my friend asked for spicy sauce which could be interpreted as we all wanted of our foods spicy! Price was reasonable in comparison to other Turkish places I have been and also if you consider the portion of the food. Kitchen closes at 9 pm. The place has no parking issues and there is lots of parking spaces on the street.

Went for the first time 2 weeks ago & the food & service were both great so we have plans to go back for dinner this weekend.

Nice wallet friendly Turkish cafe. Been here multiple times with Family, Parents and in-laws over the years and have always enjoyed the experience. Meze is our must have dish. Donor Kebabs, Iskenders are equally appetising. They also have a Turkish Coffee as an alternative to Flat White. Nice strong coffee shot. The decor is pretty ethnic. Friendly staff. 13-March-2021 Went back again. Had the Chicken Meze and Tiramisu cake. Enjoyed it all over again!

Experience 10/10 that much cool food, i believe price is little bit high

Great value, very casual, lovely food.

Food was ok but overpriced for what it is<br/>Staff average service nothing out of the ordinary dont go above and beyond
Fiona Edmonds
this place is the best in lower hutt.<br/>very very good meals and reasonably priced.<br/>service is awesome.<br/>as an customer this family operated restaurant is well run and well delivered. Place is always tidy and has a constant stream of customers!<br/>I've travelled alot and pretty happy to be able to dine here.<br/>it's as authentic as you will get here in Wellington. I recommend the chicken over the lamb, as i don't like minced lamb. I prefer to have kebab that is lamb meat. but hey don't let my preference sway you at all!<br/>
Jaymee O'Neill
Have been here a few times as the kebabs are amazing. Recently decided to try the mixed grille and now unsure if I would be able to go back to a kebab. They are unreal!! So much goodness
Jason Leef
The food here is pretty good, lunch meals are ok but dont understand why you dont offer the mixed iskender at dinner time, the staff are very rude also
Crumpet King
Mixed grill is where its at if you're a meat lover. In fact any plate you order will satisfy because the portions are decent and the taste is great!!! We got lucky this evening and got a table from walking in off the street. But its probably best to book a table to avoid disappointment.
Dotty Iorangi
First visit here was for a birthday meal, service was good no complaints, meal was great, piping hot, full of flavours, generous portions, ambience relaxed and pleasant will dine here again for sure.
Bobby
Great service, lively atmosphere, tasty and healthy authentic food with generous portions . Competitive prices. Decor a bit run down, but I would eat here again in a heart beat.
Jade
Food was o.k. Had the chicken burger, wasn’t the best. Service was pretty terrible. We had set eating time which was delayed because of service. They kind of just forget about you once you are seated. Won’t be returning
Oof Lmao
Kilim never fails to disappoint. Delicious, huge mains worth their price (I usually go for the turkish chicken burger which is amazing, always) and the desserts are just as good! I thoroughly recommend the tiramisu.
Saaniya
Always love going to Kilims. Serves are big and the food is just amazing. Went here many times with friends and family and they all loved the food😁😁
Octagon Pie
Unbelievably nice food, and the sizes were so generous that it was near impossible to eat it all! The highlight of the Chicken Meze was the beautiful Spinach and Feta Borek. Would highly recommemd this meal, has got plenty of things to taste all on one plate!
Rott Star
Wonderful service from a handsome young man, who was most helpful and exceptional at his job. As a first timer, I was recommended a dish and the meal was EXACTLY!!! what he said it would be. Meat was soft, salad was fresh, sauces were amazing and bread was done perfectly. So glad I tried here as above all my order was well worth every cent I paid and then some. Will most certainly be returning and recommending

Top quality food. Could eat this everyday. Mixed grill is the winner for me, but there is so much to choose from it can be a hard choice. Perfect place for a takeout or a date night!
Xana PM
It was my first time experiencing Turkish food, and it was not bad. I got a mixed platter meal, so portion size was definitely generous. I did however find the meat to be a bit dry, and the flavor combinations I got didn't work for me. However, I would return to give it another go, and will hopefully order something I will highly enjoy.
Mickey Serong
This place is a favourite of mine and my friends to go especially after heavy training sessions. I would add a 5th star however the service can be very abrupt and mildly rude especially towards females I’ve noticed. Absolutely no problems with the food however.
Christian
A lovely little restaurant on the busy Jackson Street. Staff were friendly and efficient. The size of the dishes was really decent with a good balance of protein, vegetables and carbs! We were all very full and happy after all. BYOW was the bonus.

Kilim is great. I have ordered the kebab, the mixed grill, the Turkish burger, and the fries. The prices are reasonable and the portions are very generous. Service is fast. The food is delicious. <br/><br/>However, the ambiance could be improved: The restaurant is slightly cramped and the lighting is a little too dark.
Team Thomas
Simply brilliant. I ordered the mixed grill with a couple of friends and it was just brilliant. It was $17 and worth every cent, meat was grilled to perfection and seasoned brilliantly, rice, condiments, salads and sauces were spot on. I don't live locally but will make a point to come back and bring the family, it's that good.

This is one of the best finds ever. It's central, affordable, the food is authentic and hearty, no corkage fee (for the alcoholics) and the decor is gorgeous. The only downsides are the set booking times either 6pm which can be a bugger if you are racing back from town or 7.30 where you are tempted to eat a pre dinner before hand and spoil your appetite...and the cosieness of the place can mean the acoustics of a large table of cackling tipsy ladies can put you off your meal. But all and all the good outweighs the not so good. The chicken meze is a highlight. If you like a bit of everything it's sure to please. The staff are usually pretty good and the meals come out in good time, considering they are usually very busy. I don't know how they manage the constant swarms of people, noise and endless telephone ringing in a small setting but they seem to pull it off!
Gemma Krebs
Been to this place multiple times and it never disappoints! If you’re not in a rush I recommend dining in as there are many delicious options. Would recommend ordering via phone/txt for pick up as it seems to be busy 24/7 here.
Sharon Harvey
Tasty and good value. Ordered the mixed (lamb and chicken) salad for $15 which was good value as there was lots of chicken. The fries were $5 a bowl and were cooked well. The staff were so friendly and welcoming.
AA
Had Iskandar Kebab. a big portion, fulfilling lunch. Ambience was good. A typical turkish eateries. The lamb was great. condiments were good too. Customer service was abit down- cashier not friendly. Overall, recommended.

We have visited this restaurant many times in the past and have always been impressed by the great food and friendly service. However, last Friday night we made the mistake of going there for an early evening (6pm) meal, accepted on the condition we vacated the premises by 7.30pm. Normally this would have been OK as an hour and a half to consume a meal is realistic. However, on this occasion, after having arrived on time at 6pm, our order was not taken till around 6.30pm and the mains not delivered to our table until just before 7pm. After consuming our main course, we asked to look at the dessert menu, but were told, rather abruptly, that there was not enough time left to have a dessert and we would have to leave. We explained that our slow-delivered meal was not our fault, to which the waiter (manager?) said that they were too busy to serve us!<br/>So it looks like this restaurant, in its attempt to make hay while the sun shines, is overcommitting itself and consequently the standard of service is slipping badly. After being loyal customers for many years, we left feeling very disappointed and have no strong desire to go back. My rating of 2.5 would have been lower was it not for the lovely main course (iskender) that was servered: no complaints there.

Kilim never disappoints! We come out from porirua to dine at Kilim because we love the food and people so much. The food is fresh and is always 10/10. Absolutely could not recommend enough! Traditional Turkish food.
Johann Go
Casual dining at its finest. Relaxed atmosphere, tasty food, and friendly staff. You get what you expect, with no pretension about being anything other than wholesome, simple, tasty Turkish cooking.
William Donaldson
Had a nice kebab from here. The sauce, meat and bread were all fantastic. It was let down a little by the salad as the lettuce was mixed with little carrot and that was it. Would of been nice to have some other salad options like onions. Also was very busy there so prepare for a wait. Overall a good kebab!

Love how little and cosy this place is. The staff are amazing and attentive. Never had a bad meal and the range of food is good. Probably not one for a big group of people (personally)
Asma Bashir
I've been coming to Kilim for years - even though I don't live in Wellington anymore. It's amazing authentic food. No long waiting periods and a relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes it's a bit cramped but I think that adds to the character. Best middle eastern / Turkish in all of New Zealand!!
Daphne
The best Turkish food I've ever had and has a very authentic feeling as it's a family who runs the business <br/>I've never had such good falafel before, and no other Turkish place compares anymore since I dined here.
Gayle Ashe
My daughter and I usually go once a week. We always get the chicken iskanders. (But have also tried other things as well). We have also eaten in when my family came for a visit, everybody raved about the food and the service. The staff are always nice and friendly and the food is the best. Well worth a visit when you are next in petone.

Our meals looked lovely, however, they were seriously over seasoned. All we could taste was salt, salt, and more salt. The glasses were also dirty and one of the male waiters was quite abrupt, not good at all. Very underwhelming.
Marmaduke Pickthall
This place does a roaring trade in takeaways (Wednesday night) but surprisingly no Turkish pide. I reckon if they added that to their menu the queues would be out the door.<br/><br/>It's a cheerful cafe type atmosphere with quick service. We ordered a selection of the dips with Turkish bread piping hot from the oven, followed by a range of the generous main courses. Mine was lamb in a tomato sauce with rice and salad. Very tasty.<br/><br/>We also ordered curly fries just for the hell of it and they were tasty too.  It's byo and we got out at $25 a head.

I absolutely love Kilim, it's one of my favourite places to go! The food is amazing, you get so much value for what you pay for. I loved getting the chicken meze as it comes with a variety of different things so I feel like I get to try a bit of everything there is. And the meal is massive!<br/>The staff are really friendly and are really attentive :)

Great experience! We didn't make a reservation, but got an outside table, so lucky! The pizza bread was awesome! Crispy outside and soft inside. We ordered twice and the second was free. Ice coffee was really strong with cream ice cream. Highly recommended!

Mouthwatering good! A busy hive of activity at this place. Everyone wants a bit of the action - dine in and takeaway was off the charts crazy busy, but it created such a great atmosphere and it had no impact on the speed it took for us to get a table (less than 10 minute wait with no booking) and the food came out pronto. Food was just so yummy. Big servings though, but so good for the price. Service was hard to get their attention at times with so much going on around you, but when we had their attention they were wonderful. Definitely going back. Shame we're from Australia as I wish this was my local.

Booked a table for a group of  9 on Friday night celebrating a birthday. We started the meal with curly fries (yum) and most ordered either mixed iskendar and doner kebabs for mains. They catered for different dietary requirements (vegan & celiac) and meal portions were huge, fresh and delicious - no one had room for dessert which was just as well, as once we were served mains, waiting staff didn't come back to check if we wanted anything else (The rating would have been a 5 otherwise). Will definitely come back again

My favourite place to eat! Used to be round the corner so it was my go-to takeaway place but now I've moved further away I need my regular Kilim fix!! Dine in is great and free BYO is a bonus! Food is to die for and the portion sizes are incredibly generous. Order the chicken meze - you will not be disappointed!
Matt Snaddon
Kilim has delicious food (Kebabs and Iskenders) and I would recommend you try this place out (eating in or taking away).  It can get very busy some days during 12pm to 2pm ,so if ordering takeaway, it is best to order over the phone.  Also, the staff are very friendly.  For a Turkish restaurant the prices are a little high, but it is well worth it. The beetroot dip is amazing!
The Referee
Beautiful chicken salad with humus dressing and hallouimi cheese, lots of chicken and fresh salad is always welcome. Also recommend mix grill and mezze plate

We've been going to Kilim for lunch and dinner for years. Recently was the most dissapointing experience. Called and booked for x4 people in advance, (on a Tuesday night) when we arrived at 7pm a waiter greets us and looked suprised, (probably because they were packed) I told him we had booked a table, he replies "are you serious?" I thought he was jokingly saying that, I said "yes, I am serious." If we didn't feel bad enough already he looks at a dirty table and says "take this table" He didn't even bother checking the booking. All the staff looked at us as if we had walked into the wrong place. Then finally, we waited for them to clean the table  and sat, ordered pretty quickly and the food arrived 10 mins later. Their food was literally half the size it was just a few months ago, a bit of chicken looked uncooked. So much had changed. <br/>I've never seen staff working at a restaurant looking so nervous to see customers popping in to eat, it was 2 adults and 2 kids, (kids only ordered hot chips) we were in and out all within half n hour. Sorry for the long review, just thought I would say, I would rather give my business to someone who appreciates it. Felt like we were burdens, and did not enjoy it at all.
Fran Carter
We turned up at one my usually favourite places to eat at 4:45 today. The staff stared at us, then chatted away, then stared at us again, then continued chatting again behind the counter. In the end, we awkwardly left as they made it clear that they weren't going to offer us a table. So ,we need to find a new favourite Turkish restaurant now!
Kayla
Beautiful food! Reasonably priced and no corkage fee! Mixed grill was awesome, my friend had a vegetarian meal and even that looked delicious (and I don't do vegetarian) can't wait to go back again

A sizeable group of us went to Kilim as a prelude to our Friday night boogie. I've been here several times and as always the food hit the spot. We started with the zucchini and carrot fritters. They were perfect pillows served on a bed of creamy hummus and a side of warm soft bread. Delicious and a good size just to wet your appetite. No picture sorry, we devoured them so fast! On the table we had an array of dishes including the lamb iskender, spinach borek, chicken and lamb salad, chicken shish, chicken mezze and vegetable mezze. From the general silence and clean plates it's fair to say the meals were very well received. I had the spinach borek which was beautiful filo scrolls stuffed with feta and just slightly wilted spinach. It was crisp, smokey, cheesy and earthy. All with a myriad of dips and salad. The beetroot dip is my favourite. It's a perfect mixture of grainy and smooth, not too sweet and is perfectly cooling. <br/>Be warned, the meals are very generous! Definitely one to sooth the soul. <br/>Service is quick and attentive and quite laid back with patrons able to refill their own water glasses.<br/>Decor and ambience is a huge plus. Very atmospheric with the Turkish tile work, hangings and bustling kitchen.<br/>I would book in advance because this place is always busy! <br/>Price was very reasonable. Oh and did I mention there is no corkage fee?? What more could you want?
Stephen Harrison
Fantastic food, friendly staff, and the happy buzz that seems to always be here is wonderful. Some places are noisy; with others it is a joyful buzz, as it is here. The food is really tasty and great value.
Jenjaroo
Delicious kebabs. I had one with carrot and zucchini fritters with no salad and it was very full. A small kebab managed to fill up my partner. There seems to be lots of seating which is good considering how busy it was for lunch.
Lubbly Jubbly
Have been going here for years. Mostly for takeaways but recently went for a sit-down mean with family visiting from out of town. They were overwhelmed at the quality of the food and portion sizes. We went there for lunch and no exaggeration, didn't even both having dinner!
Shane Girven
Best Kebabs I have eaten.<br/>Nice and fresh with lovely sauces. Always get a takeaway but will dine in one day. Great vibe and friendly staff. Always busy so must be a good sign.

So good I've eaten here two days in a row now! Generous servings, super tasty FRESH food and amazingly priced. My fave place to eat in Wellington. Can't rave about it enough!

Another lovely night out with friends at Kilim.  This place does one of the best Thai / Malay style red curries in town and the friendly, smiling, genuinely good service is always refreshing after consistently wishing for more at other less professional yet relaxed establishments.   Kilim, is small so book a table in advance and bring your own wine or beer too!!  Thanks for a great night, we will be back!
Abbstar
I love the food here, been many times, but always so busy, if you don't book you're not garanteed a table & if you are then you're given a time frame or moved on pretty quick. This place needs to be bigger! It would do better to be more spacious, less crambed :-)
The Mad Diner
Best doner kebabs ever! The Iskender is equally as good. When I see natives from the home country of a eating establishment frequenting for meals it says a lot about the authenticity and quality. Have seen the Turkish Embassy staff here a few times for lunch. Is also one of my daughter's favourite places to eat as well. Would highly recommend it!
Carlo Lim
I have just got my driver's license, and to celebrate my girlfriend and I went to Kilim for lunch.<br/><br/>We were also in the area and we are fan of Turkish cuisine so we decided to give this one a try, and to see for ourselves why it had such good ratings. <br/><br/>At first glance, the place looks small from the outside, but there are definitely more seats inside. Just a tip, I don't know if it's just me, but the door was quite hard to open; maybe I just don't have enough muscles, but it felt like there was an air suction going on that made it a bit difficult to open. But never mind that, let's carry on with our dining experience.<br/><br/>As soon as we walked in, we knew we were in a Turkish eatery. The smell, the music, the wall decorations, the lighting, and the ornaments, really gave us that authentic Mediterranean setting. We sat on booth-style seats, the first thing I noticed was that there were throw pillows placed along it, and gave it that feeling that we were eating at a Turkish home, which was pleasant.<br/><br/>I ordered their Turkish Chicken, which was marinated chicken that was grilled, served with a Turkish-style salad mix, rice, Turkish bread, and dips (hummus, beetroot puree, and Greek yogurt (or similar)). The chicken was very delicious, and I could taste the spices they used to marinated it with, and there was so much chicken, especially for its price. Another thing that stood out for me was the beetroot puree dip. I am not a beetroot fan, but I do not hate it either. But that puree was so nice and refreshing to my palette with its mildly sweet taste, that it was one of my favourite aspects of the meal. I do not even normally finish beetroot puree dips on other Turkish places when I order iskenders.<br/><br/>My girlfriend ordered their Pilavustu, it was grilled chicken served with rice and Turkish bread. Sound simple doesn't it? But it was more than worth its price of $10. The chicken had a delicious smoky charcoal flavour to it. <br/><br/>We also ordered a bowl of fries. Side dishes like this, I just expect them to be generic and similar for every eatery, but these fries I just have to comment on. I am a fan of crispy and thin fries. These were quite thick but I loved them because of their rich potato flavour, which I enjoyed savouring. You might be thinking, of course they will taste like that,  because they are potatoes and that all other fries will taste like that. But some fries, although quite crispy, some just taste quite bland, airy, and oily. My best description I could give you is that they tasted like the Original Flavour of Pringles. <br/><br/>The staff were friendly. There were also a few families with kids that were dining at the time. So it is a family friendly place. There was a small wooden rocking horse, which I presume can be used for kids. I have mentioned before that the lighting gave it more of an authentic feel, but it also meant that the photos that I took are not of best quality.<br/><br/>Overall, my girlfriend and I were very happy with our dining experience, it was worth the price, a great place to celebrate and dine any time of the day, and we will definitely come back. I recommend this to everyone.
Julian Gillespie
Absolutely loved it here. The guy who served me had a great sense of humor, he made my day! The vegetarian meze had a fantastic variety of delicious morsels and the decor was really nice. Couldn't fault.
Duncan Galletly
Have been many times over the past year. This BYO turkish must be one of the most popular restaurants for a reasonably cheap meal on Jackson Street. When nearby places are almost empty, this one is almost invariably busy. There always seems to be a slightly chaotic air, but the staff are friendly, helpful, and always seem to find us a table when it looks hopeless. For two, we usually order a vegetarian mezze and one other shared plate. The mezze is delicious and almost enough for two by itself. Sometimes service can be a bit variable, but not for any other reason that there's a lot of activity and occasionally something - like bringing wine glasses - can get forgotten. Kid friendly, bustling, good and ample food for a reasonable price. No wine list - BYO only - but there is a good bottle store 50 meters down the road. Worth a visit for a quick meal out in Petone.
JD
Great value, $170 for 4 entrees, 6 mains, 1 desert and a soft drink.  We BYO'd wine.  Everything tastes great and the portions are ample.  We went at 6pm and were told when we booked that that was a booking until 7.30.  At such reasonable prices you can see why they need to turn over the customers, so I'm OK with that.  Just wish I lived closer so I could go more often.
Danny Rawnsley-Wratt
I went to Kilim after hearing a lot of great things about it. I did not know what to expect as I hadn't tried Turkish food before, but this food was great! The portion sizes were huge with one dish fulling up two people. I would absolutely recommend Kilim for anyone wanting to go to petone for a meal.
Jade Amber
Food is always amazing, I eat here often and have never had a complaint. Staff are lovely and this is the perfect place for a local byo dinner
Muffin Mum
Love, love, love the vegetarian meze plate with all the bits. This is one of the places I come with girlfriends for a plate of yum and a good chat. For a kebab place it is more pricey than average, I think it is worth it. For some reason husband and daugher are not fans. I am happy to keep it as my place.
Jacquie McMillan
Beautiful food and would highly recommend...... Stumbled across this place as hubby and I were looking for somewhere different to eat and we will go back for sure.
Norman Wilkins
really good value for money. We often go there for kebab takeaways. It is our restaurant/takeaway of choice on Jackson St. when we are too lazy to cook our own. We have also eaten in and found it very friendly and the food good
Siobhan
Update: group of 7 us here, waited for about 20mins after our meals were cleared to order dessert; ended up having to ask the waiter to take our order but he forgot so one of the managers told us the table was needed in 10mins before we informed him that no one had returned to see if we wanted to provide further patronage...dropping the ball Kilim :-(<br/><br/>This is our local go-to dinner. We always love the food (especially the chicken iskender, spinach borek and chicken burger) and they are reasonably priced. The decor is quirky and location is perfect! We come here in groups or just the 2 of us and they even let us bring in birthday cakes. Highly recommend!
Anne
First time dining at Kilim, and sadly wasn't impressed. Food was bland and the service was poor, only came and took our main order with drinks, we had to ask for dessert and they didn't come back to check if we would like anything how things were going..... and then when they did finally decide to come to our table it was to kick us out. Shame, but will not be returning.
Lin
I have been to Kilim on many occasions to get a lamb doner kebab. The lamb used to be carved and then browned on the griddle. This is not longer the case. The meat is now like boiled roast meat and very fatty. Pity.
Lemeabug
We ate at Kilim after hearing great recommendations and we were not disappointed! The staff were friendly and our waitress was very helpful with answering our questions and recommending dishes. There were no delays with our food - we ordered starters and mains - although the restaurant was very busy. The meals are delicious and reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning to Kilim and recommend this place to anyone who hasn't yet been!

I don't know what Kathy was talking about; not being offered water.... There is a waterwell on the wall with glasses next to it to help yourself from. This is not a fine dining experience where one expects the very busy staff to cater for your every whim. My wife and I come here often and have done so with other friends/family/work colleagues for about three years. the atmosphere is great (yes if you are at the front of the establishment you WILL have to deal the door opening and closing all the time... this is a very busy place). The staff are efficient on the whole if not sometimes harried during busy hours.<br/>We have hardly ever had our orders wrong, and never waited an uncomfortable time to either have our orders place or our food served.<br/>Myself and my wife understand the style of restaurant Kilim is and therefore come with a nice couple of bottles of wine, order meze etc and ask the wait staff to bring it when it is ready or when they have time. This is time we enjoy together, and we have never been disappointed with our evenings at Kilim.<br/>Kathy, if Kilim was your worst restaurant experience ever for all your group, I would have to say you are all very lucky in your previous experiences and maybe his type of establishment is not suited to you.<br/>As for us, we are having a family dinner on Sunday there on before Xmas. There will be 14 of us from all over NZ. I chose here instead of anywhere in Wellington as it is the perfect place, and such a gem.<br/>By the way both my wife and I are in the catering trade and are very conversed with different cuisines
Kathy Hunter
My three friends and I dined at Kilim in Petone a few months ago and it was the worst restaurant experience any of us have ever had. Despite booking a table for four people one week in advance, we were squashed in at a small square table for two. The couple to the left of us were seated at a round table and, when they left, they suggested we push the two tables together. The waitress walked past and half heartedly suggested the same thing, but made no move to try and sort it out for us. Anyway, it kind of worked out - we had more room but one table was way taller than the other so it was hardly ideal.<br/>We then placed our orders and waited approximately one and a half hours for our meals to arrive. By then we were all half cut despite the fact two of us were driving (perhaps because no water was offered). There were about six people working in the restaurant but not one of them came to offer any apology or explanation about the meals taking so long, it was only after we started to get a bit scratchy that any notice was taken of us. There was one younger girl who was very polite and helpful but the rest were extremely impolite and snotty, basically giving us rude stares and coming across like they couldn’t care less and WE were the ones being rude for complaining!<br/>About an hour into it a more senior waitress came over with a pad and paper, begrudgingly asked us what we ordered, and marched off. Half an hour later three of the meals arrived, one of which was not the right order. The fourth meal arrived another 15 minutes later.<br/>After practically begging, we were offered one meal free. When we went to pay we felt like the worst people on the planet, despite US being the customers who had turned up for a nice girl’s night out and a simple Turkish meal.<br/>We will not be going back and it is definitely not on my list of restaurants to recommend!

we have been there many times and have nothing short of excellent food and service every single time-we are so impressed that our booking this Friday night under my name we are not expecting to be any less than excellent as it has always been to date.

This place is just round the corner and I've been well over 30 times eirther for a quick take-away lunch or a sit down meal, the food is perfect and you can't beat the price specially with no corkage fee however the customer service generally stuffs up everytime I bring people there and can be embarrassing when you've just raved about how great it is, the other week a group of us went for a sit down lunch and had a 4 year old child with us, I know they do kebabs on sticks so we asked if we could have one of those as they don't provide kids meals, the guy was very rude and (nearly yelling) told us they only do whats on the board which was a $16 main meal which just wouldn't of suited a 4 year old, we ended up getting her a happy meal from McD's, the parents of the child were horrified and I was very embarrassed, also on another occasion I took another group their and they forgot my meal, after getting it 10 mins after the people at my table had finished theirs I finally got mine, they really should of offered a discount, if the food wasn’t so good I wouldn't keep going back.

A return visit - v busy Saturday night seated in rear section with a couple of large exuberant groups. Staff attentive and prompt - accommodating in re-seating a couple of family groups away from the noise when they asked. Food great even though flat-out all night. Bill was accurate and v reasonable. Nice clean comfortable decor. Recommended - you do need to book on busy nights - many turned away.

First we were in squashed seating down the back, then the waitress in a rather impolite way suggests we order our own drinks so that she doesn't have to, and then when the food finally came it was barely hot and the meat was dry. Never coming back to this place and not recommending it either

Went to Kilim last night and it was great, good food, service and the atomosphere was fantastic as the place was packed. We had the pita and dips to start and then moved onto the Lamb Shish - the dips were fantastic and the meat cooked to perfection.<br/><br/>Great place to go for a casual tasty meal. Will be back for sure.

After having recommended to me and reading all the positive reviews, I was hugely dissappointed when I went to Kilim on Saturday night. The staff were abrupt and rude and we were given a table right next to the door which sent through a cold draught each time it was opened (which was very regularly since it's takeaway too). My partner asked if we could shift tables because of this, but they never got back to us. We ended up paying for our drinks and leaving. Don't think we'll be going back in a hurry.

Went back here recently, it is still the same, the food is still amazing and resonable. Service is fast and you can b.y.o.<br/><br/>I always get the vege meze platter which is full of yummy goodies, you will not go away hungry - their spanakoppita and Haulmi is awesome.<br/><br/>You will not regret going there.

Have been there many times and every single time it's a delight. The food is always fresh and tasty. Prices are reasonable too and staff are quite friendly. It's definitely one of the best places to eat in Petone.

We went there with two kids (3 and 6). We had two starters + two main meals to share. The food was great, quick, tasty and cheap! Service good, cleanliness good, they even have a rocking horse for the kids.<br/><br/>I would recommend it, the food is tasty and quick to arrive and the service is good.<br/><br/>Total cost for us was about $65 so a good and cheap meal!

Food was very good. Service was good. Value for money was good. Would have given them 5 stars but they were asked to leave different things off two of the plates, but only left stuff off one. This is a little annoying.<br/><br/>Came here again a couple of months later, they got our meals perfect. And the food was excellent. Upgrade to 5 stars.

Yum Yum Yum. Have eaten here many times and never had a bad experience or meal. The food is just delicious if you like Turkish. Make sure you book for Friday and Saturday Nights as very popular. Will keep on going back.

Delicious food. so yummy and miles apart from all the fast food turkish places (though this is no slower, just done so much nicer). The environment is very thought out and cosy. Will definitely go back :)

Another of our Petone regulars. Consistent quality, friendly service, authentic decor and a wide selection to choose from. A great relaxing place to dine.

I have been to Kilim many times and have found it consistently enjoyable. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is well presented, enjoyable and healthy. Would recommend for takeaway or eat in.

Kilim is our local 'regular' for takeaway kebabs. The food is always exceptionally prepared, healthy, and the service is excellent. We often phone our order in ahead, which is really helpful. We've dined in once and had a great experience. Definitely a place to keep going back to and we're keen to bring a group of friends there one night. Just make sure you book ahead for a Fri-Sat - understandably, the place is packed over the weekend!

We ordered takeout tonight and just finished a felafel open kebab and a lamb iskender. They were delicious! I had the open kebab and everything was yummy - the flat bread, felafel and all the condiments. I will certainly go here again and look forward to trying the dine-in dinner menu. The seating looked limited though so I wont booking for a large group.
