Review Victoria St Cafe - Wellington

Ate here when I landed in Wellington and the next day as well so the food and coffee is definitely good. Had the big breakfast the first time and Open Omelette the second time. Food was delicious both times. Service was great as well. Everyone was friendly and it's a really nice place to come have a cup of coffee while taking a break.

Lovely place! Wonderfully friendly staff, great atmosphere, great prices and great food!! AMAZING chai lattes!! I'm an avid chai latte drinker, and this is the one of best chai's I've ever had! There was also no surcharge (we visited on a public holiday) which was an added bonus!

Great deal with the 2 for 1 pancakes and lovely service! The pancakes were delicious and helped me get through a day of lectures.

Cute little cafe. We stopped by for breakfast it was quick and tasty. The potatoes were delicious! A great vegetarian option, crispy, and a large serving. I almost couldn't finish the bowl.

Fantastic fabulous friendly! Yum yum food. Literally nicest bacon and eggs ever. And when I asked for a coffee as big as possible my expectations were absolutely exceeded when I got coffee in a cup as big as a bowl!! Service from the girl Rose was outstanding as well! Very happy 😃. New fav spot

Super quick service. Very friendly helpful staff, and great tasty food. I had the Big Breakfast and was a generous portion of everything. One of the very few places that open super early too. Thanks!

In Wellington for a week and stopped here as its the nearest cafe to my hotel. Pancakes were absolutely delicious, but the coffee... I've lived in coffee hotspots around the world, and this cup shot straight into my top 3 best coffees ever list. Masterfully done.

Good food and great staff, coffee isn’t too bad either.

Nice little place for a breakfast. Coffee was good and I went for the 3 pancakes as I generally have a big appetite. The plum preserve topping was a generous amount and delicious. Special mention to the friendly staff :) would definitely go back and recommend this place if you're looking for a good cafe in CBD.

Love the pancakes for brunch. They're small, thick, and fluffy at the same time. And because of their 2 for 1 deal, it's hard to refuse. Good value and portion.

Good, chill and casual environment with a Sunday vibe. Would recommend this place for a casual breakfast.
8/10

It was clean, friendly and helpful staff. Food that reminded me of my mother's cooking. Loved the access to fresh water in such a hot day too. Recommend.

Not going to lie... Vic St Cafe was not my first choice for brunch a couple of Saturdays ago but the first pick was packed so we came here instead.

This place is unassuming. It doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. It's quite a large layout on a corner which makes the layout awkward but it is tidy, clean and inviting.

Before you switch off... wait. This is where the 4 stars come in.

The service is fantastic. The wait staff are friendly, chatty if you feel up to making conversation and helpful when it comes to working out what to eat. Big tick.

The menu is pretty extensive so thankfully the wait staff are also patient. Took us a few minutes to stop talking long enough to work out what we were going to have and when the food came out (in a very timely manner), we were not unhappy.

The portions are huge and for the price, this is a good deal. Being the GF Vege chick, I went for the Vege Brekkie. It has smoked homemade baked beans which were fantastic. The smoked flavour really took it to a different level compared to other places that put this on the menu. Mr RaeRae had the pancakes and are devouring those, was a happy wee camper.

I don't know if I am emotionally capable of talking about the coffee. The same morning of this brunch, my PT had challenged me to no caffeine for the rest of September so this was my last one. It wasn't mind blowing but it was decent. Perfect amount of hot water, just the right about of coffee and not a bad brew.

All in all, a decent trip. Thanks Vic St Cafe!

I love this place. Travel a lot, and dine at a lot of cafes and restaurants. The food is great here and the service fantastic and friendly. What more could you ask?

I was in a hurry when I came to Victoria St Cafe. We waited a long moment just for two omelettes.. But the staff is nice, they were friendly. Also, I think prices are too expensive. For two omelettes, one coffee and a apple juice, 45$ is very expensive, compare to the quality.

Me and my boyfriend went here today. I liked how the sign as we walked in told us to take a menu and still down. I don't like when staff fawn over you as soon as you step in the door. After an appropriate amount of time and friendly young guy came and took our order. I had a hot black current juice with was lovely and my partner had eggs bene with bacon. We did find it a bit odd that it was a scone and not bread and we both like bread but it was OK. Wanting to go back to try the pancakes. Food came in very good time also.

Small menu, mostly meat and not a lot of fresh. Staff were pretty average and had the attitude they didn't want to be there and would only check menu items for allergies if they HAD to. Large amounts of food but overall overpriced.

Also - I ordered gluten free bread here and am 90% sure it wasn't gf. Purely because it tasted like a scone and I was sick the next day... Coincidence maybe but due to the staff that day I wouldn't be surprised.

Good presentation.

My partner and I went here for lunch, it's a very cute little cafe however that's all it has going for it. The service is poor it took them 10 or so minutes to even come to us to get our order after I went and got menus and water for ourselves. It wasn't busy either. The food wasn't great at all, I had a bacon panini which the cheese didn't even get melted when they were toasting it, also they had pickled vegetables in there which wasn't listed and I really don't like. My partner had the eggs bene with bacon. It comes on a homemade scone which is a really cool idea however it was tasteless and the bacon was very under cooked. The potatoes with aoili however were very nice. Probably won't be coming back as there are a lot more places to try.

We popped in here for lunch as it was close and warm. My colleague had the frittata and salad from the cabinet but I had the pork belly and hash off the menu. We didn't have long and I was worried my choice might take too long but it was perfect timing and delicious!

Never disappointed by this place. The brunch here is always nice and the cabinet selection is good too. always happy to see gluten free options! Great staff and service, would recommend :)

A pretty good place for breakfast food.

There was once I came here with friends and ordered the following:

Eggs benedict (was made very nicely), homemade muesli (the lady was very nice about serving soy milk instead of milk unlike some places) and flapjacks (quite fluffy).

Serving time was slow but still alright, lucky we weren't in a hurry.

We recently dined here and left feeling like the management didn't have any respect for the customers. The drinks came out quick enough and while the eyebrows were raised somewhat after a 40 plus minute wait for the food; it did not overly concern us until the food was presented. Two of us ordered the potato feta cakes with bacon and walnut salad. The potato cakes were fine, the small crumbs of toasted feta spinkled on top were the feta contribution and the bacon and walnut crumbs had been toasted and tossed throughout the rotting, sludgy mesculan salad. I initially pushed the sludgy bits to the side of the plate and tried the odd piece of okay looking leaf but the rotten flavour was spoiling the meal so not wanting to complain after I'd eaten the potato cakes after eating 2 (of the 3 potato cakes) I took this up to the counter and pointed out the rotting salad. The coffe maker returned it to the kitchen, the other person who had the potato cakes was also served the same rotting lettuce (which she couldn't eat either).
After waiting for some response and none seemed forthcoming, and everyone had finished, we paid and waited around while one of our group went to the bathroom. At no point was any apology offered, nor any effort made to address the issue; no discount or replacement was offered either.
During our wait, it was clear to staff that we were discussing the issue and a member was told to speak to us, she didn't seem to know what to do other than to agree that it was not a satisfactory situation. One of the co- owners was behind the counter but did not make effort with us to address the issue.
Had my uneaten potato cake been re-offered with a fresh portion of salad with a small apology I would have left perfectly happy and not thought much more of the situation.
I had asked the 2 staff members I dealt with would they be happy to eat that black rotten sludgy salad or would the chef be happy to eat it; they said "No, they wouldn't", then why does this cafe expect their customers to eat it? Lack of respect for the customer. Poor, poor poor.
It is unfortunate as I have dined here in the past on several occassions and had no complaints, but never returning and not recommending.

Great location for on the way to work, lunch and the in betweens. Its quite a shame that they close early as they make excellent coffee, and it's hard to make it in sometimes while people queue and queue for their much needed espresso wake ups

Nice cafe with cosy atmosphere. A bit less choice for light meals but good coffee.

We went yesterday for brunch and were surprised at how packed it was. We started off with a banana and caramel milkshake and flat white with a drop of vanilla. The milkshake wasn't sickly as expected, but mild and fruity. The flat white - velvety smooth ... in fact best coffee I have ever had. Ever. We ordered the egg and bacon buttie with chorizo - the bread was incredibly fresh and definitely what the other half will be ordering again. I had the Moroccan ragu - couscous was light and lemony, meat was succulent - just bliss. I'm a big foodie and coffee lover. I wish I worked closer ... oh and the staff were lovely.

Simple food - nothing to rave about, but not bad either. There is a lot of competition in this area, its mid town.

As a senior citizen I often feel a bit intimidated by the youth cafe culture of Welington. This is not the case with this establishment. A good varied menu for breakfast/brunch/lunch and excellent coffee. This cafe has been a favourite of mine for some time. Another key to their success is the smile that always greets you and the efficient service.

As the newest member of our regular Friday search for Wellington CBD’s best Breakfast, Victoria Cafe was my choice for a first outing. My fellow members unanimously agreed that my choice was arguably the best breakfast yet (they had frequented over 20 cafés in recent months)" We thought it had an appealing menu, covering all the standard breakfast offerings, although without much in the way of speciality items. The bacon was very good, the mushrooms were the best we have found in Wellington to date, however the eggs were slightly under poached (a minor criticism). The sausages were favourably commented upon, with both beef and chorizo to choose from. Servings were well sized for a breakfast plate. I had the flapjacks which were served with bananas, bacon and maple syrup. Sometimes this can be a stodgy start to the day leaving me feeling uncomforatble, but the flapjacks here were light, flavoursome and easily digested. A recomendation from me.

We noted a slight anomaly on the pricing front, with the Big Breakfast offering immediate price point advanatge over shorter options when sides are included. This limited choices to a short serving (poached eggs on sourdough for example) or the Big Breakfast, since when a side of bacon is added, the differential favours going straight tho the Big Breakfast. This pricing strategy may encourage more purchases of the big breakfast, but is not so customer friendly if you are after a lighter breakfast.

Good coffee, prompting a second cup from two of our party and very good service. A slight confusion, partly of our own making, in regards to one of the cups of coffee was met with good nature by the staff and even an unnecessary personal apology from the manager – a nice indication of good customer service which was polite, friendly and attentive without being overly so.

The atmosphere of the café is good, nothing exceptional, but it was pleasant and comfortable. The panoramic windows presented a truly stunning view of some of Wellington's most appealing frontages (and one or two rear-ends as well).

Friendly staff, great customer service! However, food was average.
