Review One Red Dog - Wellington

Simon Wellborne
Six of us dined here before a show at TSB. We had booked ahead, but there was a mixup and no table was available. It was rectified in quick order and we were all seated 10 minutes later. We ordered two starters for the table, pizzas for everyone, followed by deserts. I thought the pizzas were great (for a place that doesn't specialise in pizza). Service was reliable and friendly, even though the place was very busy. A round of drinks, starters, mains and desert totalled ~$300.

A fun place for friends or colleagues to hangout on weekends and have some good drinks. The ambience is good and a lot of cool breeze but near the beach. The seating outside is awesome. The cheese platter and the non veg platters are good even though the portion is less.

We had a meal flat bread garlic Vegan pasta...prawn linguine It was ok we had better Pavlova and brownie for after dinner

The food was awesome, we have noticed a change in menu with limited vegan options compared to before, also drinks mixed wrong but I personally loved my meal friendly staff.

Food delivered out of order, ie soup after main. Table staff loverly but need more training and there didn't appear to be enough of them for the number of patrons.

Had a great night dining here. Was looked after by Indiana who was really attentive and helpful and the food was amazing! Can't recommend enough

We went early at 6pm with kids and they have a kids menu. Great service and our food and drinks were great reccomend if you're looking for somewhere along the Welly water front.

I came a few years back and food wasn't that good. UNTIL I came back Friday night and OMG! Food was soo DELICIOUS! we ordered from the set menu which was $35 and let me tell you, I was Hella full! Everything was so yummy from the flatbread to the pizzas, I had a food coma by the end of the night lol The staff were so helpful, kind and considerate and overall the best 😁 I highly recommend eating here, I LOVED it!!!

You have to try the Ricotta Gnocci...devine! Sat outside and it was an overall wonderful experience. Will def go again!

We ate at this venue as part of our social dinner for the Beyond Stuttering - McGuire Programme Event. Great Pizza and starters. Amazing value for money for their set menu. We were all extremely well fed and had excellent service.

One Red Dog is a favorite spot for us, family friendly and the quality of the food and service is excellent. Photo is of the "Pluto" kids pizza (whats left of it anyways). Easy parking, on the water front, what more could you need? Lots of beers too!

Friday night in level 2 lockdown is not the best time to see this place in action as I'm told that it is normally heaving. Small groups still zapped in and out for drink and food but there were a lot of empty tables and it was too cold to be outside. Service was prompt and attentive and we were seated quickly to keep the social distancing in line. They have a reasonable drinks menu but food is all about pizza with just a few pastas and snacks to fill it out. The pizzas are good and very filling but pretty expensive at @$25 for a medium size. I would not recommend the gluten free base as it seemed to be made of cardboard and wallpaper paste. Seriously, you can get some really good gluten free pizza bases now, but at an extra $3 this was pretty bad. Desserts were fabulous if you want that massive sugar rush and the Jaffa tower was impressive. At $125 for 2, this was not the cheapest dinner but it has a nice atmosphere and it's close to the CBD. In summer this is an easy place to recommend. In winter during covid 19 it was a nice night out I was happy to have, but maybe not somewhere I would rush back to.

This was honestly the best pizza I've ever had. My wife tried the Hawaiian pizza and loved it. I tried the duck pizza...FABULOUS!!! We also had their potato wedges, which were great too. The atmosphere was wonderful and we found the staff accommodating, friendly and efficient. Located on the wharf near all the great attractions. I highly recommend One Red Dog.

Booked a table for dinner before a concert as it was super close to the arena. Our waitress Utopia was absolutely awesome! Everything was delicious and came out really quickly despite the place being fully booked out and busy. Perfect start to our night!

Conveniently located near the wharf, but not on the front line. It's great to sit outside on a sunny day as the wind barely hits being blocked by all the buildings. The atmosphere is casual. The food is great and they have a decent menu from pasta, pizzas and other smaller items. They have friendly staff. The price is expensive but the quality and portion of the food is excellent as well so it equals out, although they are a tad slow at dishing food out so expect some wait at peak times. Ignoring these minor issues, I would definitely still recommend eatting here.

Really disappointing with the food. Never seen so many olives and capers in the gnocchi. Didn't even remove the pips. Carbonara meal was cold and the pizzas bases weren't fully cooked.
Only highlight was the Tuatara beer.

Went here for dinner. We ordered cajun chicken wings (not good at all!). I ordered the chicken pasta which was okay. The pizzas definitely not worth the price and not great tasting. The service was very slow and often forgot us (place was quite empty?). So was not happy throwing $125 on food that was very over priced and not great. I would go there again but only for a drink because of its view..

Worst pizza ever; in fact all the food was awful to average. Great menu that failed to deliver on every dish. Will never return - can’t believe that a place serving food this bad can survive in a foodie place like Wellington!😳

What a huge disappointment.
On completion of our meal (11 people) we tried to settle the account only to be told “it had already been settled, someone else had paid”.
Hard to believe, so we quizzed this. Confirmed as being so, we started to leave.
Our host, knowing this wasn’t the case quizzed this further with the staff for some time to finally end up having us each pay with an honesty system for what we’d individually consumed. (Apparently, the staff had charged our table to someone else).
Finally free to leave, a staff member then tracked us down outside to advise we hadn’t paid for one pizza! Back inside, our host went through the menu once again, and confirmed that we’d paid for everything we’d consumed.
After further delays, clearly the staff were getting more annoyed, and eventually admitted defeat and suggested we “just leave”...!
So it was their stuff up, which we tried hard to allevate for them, only to piss them off more.
And the GF pizza base was yuck...

Enjoyed our experience here.
We loved the service and the food.
Cannot wait to be back again

For more follow @wellymunchers on the gram

Nice staff, friendly overall. Good range of tap beers. Nice outdoor area for beers in the arvo. It's easy going good, not outstanding but all good for a quiet one. Slightly disappointed with the fruit flies in my drinks in the past but ehh its unavoidable with bars depending on the time of year. It's just a wee fruit fly not exactly the worst thing on earth. Lol. I'll keep popping in here for the odd drink. All good.

Went a couple of weeks ago as a family. A busy Saturday night and also a child's birthday party on the table nearby. Drinks were ordered and brought over promptly and meals ordered. We had 3 children in our group and we had a small wait but not too long. Meals were nice and hot and the children enjoyed making their own pizzas. Nice location on the waterfront.
A really nice evening and really enjoyed by all, we will be back again! Thank you!

The food there was really good, had the Mexican pizza with chips. The ingredients on the pizza were really good and the chips were made perfect. The food was made really fast. I would highly recommend One Red Dog Restaurant and bar their food is really good.

I love the food here! The pizzas are the best and the pastas are delicious. The food is also great and you get good portion sizes. This restaurant never disappoints.
Matt Leavesley
Over priced and the pizza is very average. The lamb salad is Ok, staff were not friendly and expected us to order at the counter when we had kids. If you want great Italian pizza at a good price I suggest going across the road to Portofino. The only good thing about 1RD is it's location, outside sheltered sun trap, good for a drink and perhaps an antipasto which ain't too bad.
Dumplingboi
the food here was average, i had the chicken tenders and fries and it was enough for two people. however, the service here is poor since we were seated at a table with other peoples glasses on it and the waiter didn’t clear it until halfway through our meals. it also took a long time for us to actually get the menu and an even longer wait to order food but once it was ordered, it came out pretty fast. we also had to get our own water which was left out in the sun and it just wasn’t a very accomodating experience

I used to watch a show Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. A recent visit to ORD reminded me of this although it was, Four Guys, a Girl and One Red Dog.

If you're looking for a family friendly place that will cater for lots of appetites, ORD is a good go to. In my case it was five excitable adults but you get my drift...

Everyone enjoyed their meals. The pizzas were a real hit and those that could share did so they could compare. They're not traditional like you'd get from Pizza Napoli - they're more pizza with a kiwi no. 8 wire spin. I always get the Shangri La on a GF base. Their bases are light and tasty, and the Shangri La is a vegan pizza that doesn't skimp on taste just because it doesn't have meat.

The wait staff are great. Helpful and patient. Especially as we were talking more than looking at the menu.

I wouldnt head here if you're looking for romance with a loved one. When it's busy, it's noisy with lots of large tables. If you (and more importantly your other half) are ok with that, then give it a go.

Kids friendly and a wonderful restaurant located by the waterfront. Great, vibrant atmosphere. Loved their pizza meals, the toppings are plentiful and delicious. Friendly and efficient staff. Enjoyed my meals and am sure I’ll be back again.

Had been here previously and had awful rude service but gave it another go (mostly due to proximity and hunger) and once again so disappointed.
My smoked chicken salad was quite horrible- brown, tiny bits of chicken, limp lettuce, barely any feta and avocado and very poorly presented. Husband's beef pizza was ok but very pricey for what it was.
Kids meals gross - fish gujons (actually a starter) smelled so strong and fishy, very unfresh. The noodles were basically tinned spaghetti.
Definitely won't be back.
Alana McConnell
Nice pizzas, good selection. It was super busy so we could only sit outside but the food still came pretty promptly. I’d recommend the potato skins! Definitely a nice spot.
Seeessjay
It is a pizza and pasta restaurant but as far as variety and other options go there wasn’t much. Food was ok, nothing special, but priced well. Ok for casual dining. Limited vegetarian options.
Sally
We love this place, and tonight was no different. It was New Years Eve, and we went for dinner. Service was friendly as per normal. We ordered the Texan pizza , and two chicken pastas. I also ordered a real vanilla thick shake, and explained I wanted it double thick. She understood. What arrived was a milkshake. I sent it back, and it the second time was much better. The pizza was very tasty, but they put jalapenos all over it instead of half. No complaints with the pasta. As much as we love this place the staff don't produce what the customer asks for, and thats probably because they are so busy. Still a great night though.

This so called une rouge chien restaurant has charged me - a low income high school student $9 for possibly the smallest basket of chips I think I have ever laid my precious eyes on. Not at all to rip into this “family friendly” restaurant, but considering the quality of the atmosphere, my extensive knowledge of Wellington dining shows that I have been graciously let down here by one red dog. Truly a disaster.
Cheeseburger
Been here 2-3 times and usually get the carbonara which is delicious! Saw someone else get potato skins which I'd love to try sometime. The peanut butter milkshake is so yum! Tried the antipasto entree platter with family once - also great except I had too much and couldn't finish my main. Tried the iced chocolate last time and it is pretty small.

I had the best 21st party here that I could have dreamed of and it was exactly what I wanted. The food was incredible, service very efficient, and all of my request were fulfilled. Communication between myself and the staff, including the general manager Mitch, was speedy. All of the guests very much enjoyed it and I highly recommend One Red Dog as a fantastic venue choice.
Pastaton
Great vibes, good atmosphere, really genuine lovely staff, and really great beef on that beef and bearnaise pizza! Could do with a bit of a salty addition to the sauce but the quality of that beef made up for it

Thanks!

Interesting place. It is not like I remember to visit. It means nothing special for me. Nothing much to remember. But when someone asked me to meet there. I go and enjoy food there. Nothing too special. Better than some place. Not bad. Beer is good.

Great location does help. If you don't know where to go and see this place, you should be okay to go there enjoy. It will not fail you. However, as I said nothing special not memorable. That is it.

I haven't been to an ORD for years but ventured into one today. Our food took a long time to arrive - other tables who were seated after us had their food way before we did. The thick cut chips were well seasoned and crunchy. My canneloni was nice but - dare I say it - too much cheese. My sleeve kept snagging on the broken table top.
Stacy Heyman
Let me start off by saying the food was really good! The staff however, were not. No offence, but when I order a pizza and say it's gluten-free, then the waiter comes out and says "I know you said gluten-free, this pizza isn't - but is that okay?" I feel like the answer will obviously be a no... Am I being harsh? I don't think so. The waiter didn't charge for that pizza but considering the gluten-free version came out 20minutes later and everyone was finishing up I thought it was still bad service. Also it was so hard to order and ask for things like water? As soon as the waiter took an order he'd leave as if he was in a huge rush. Weird. The gf vegetarian pizza was actually the best pizza I've ever eaten! Would return and hope for a better waiter.

I've had shit service the world over, and I have never felt compelled to write a complaint until I went to your restaurant for lunch. My party of four arrived a little after 1pm, and milled at the entrance waiting to be seated. No one appeared, and besides one staff member helping some people pay for their meals, there were no staff on the floor. Since the restaurant was half empty and we were tired of milling around doing nothing, we though we should seat ourselves, and did so.

We then waited for 15 minutes without a single waiter approaching us. When I waved at a waitress to attract her attention (blonde, short, stocky) she shot me a filthy look, and then continued to ignore us when she walked passed again.

One of our party got up to speak to a waiter, who said someone would be with us, and in due course he arrived. This more helpful gentleman wanted to know what we wanted. Only we hadn't seen menus. When we pointed this out he told us the restaurant was actually closed... at 1:30pm on a Friday afternoon. When we asked why he said "we were very busy". That may have been the case, but when we arrived the restaurant was half empty. Plus there was no signage to this effect, and no one to seat us, but it seems that we were at fault for not somehow noticing this fact.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the term hospitality industry entail being hospitable?

My colleagues and I went to One Red Dog for lunch. Though the staff were very friendly and the food was pretty good, the wait for the food was very long, over 40 minutes. This was not ideal as usual work breaks are about an hour long. I had overheard the table seated beside me getting told their food was going to take a 40 minute wait and would have appreciated that we were also told the waiting time.

Booked in for three people before the "Sole Mio" concert a week or so back. Judging by the number of walk ups while we dined, it was a brilliant idea. Service was friendly and we were warned that there might be delays for food due to how busy it was(a sunny Saturday evening next door to the concert venue - fair enough). As it happened, any issue was barely noticeable as the entrees soon arrived, garlic bread and cheese/bacon potato skins. The bread is an old favourite with plenty of butter and seasoning topped with shredded cheese. The skins appear to be a new fav, as they were rapidly hoovered up. Our Pizzas arrived about 20 minutes later, both looked good and proved to be very tasty. Due to peer pressure I was compelled to squeeze in the very last pieces, soooo good but it meant dessert wasn't going to be an option.

All in all a good night out. Would definitely pop back
Katie
Service was quick. Food is the type you know exactly what your getting. We booked a table for four and then unexpectedly had another two people join us. We had to wait a few extra minutes for the table to be set. Apart from this amazing would go again and recommend
Sammy Jo
Love the chicken and avocado pizza. Also the mussels entree was pretty yum especially for a pizza resturant. Staff are friendly and you can get a larger portion of wine in your glass for a little bit more $.
Team Thomas
Pretty good spot for a quick and easy meal. Came here for work more recently and it was good to share a few pizzas and I also had the lamb salad which was pretty good. The wait staff were friendly and helpful with ingredient lists (allergies) and prompt with drinks and food. Would return and would bring kids too.

This place seems to have been around for ever but this was my first time dining there. We got there very early as we were going to an event. We ordered a range from the menu, pasta, pizza, potato skins and a salad. We also got a Pimm's pitcher to share, which was super tasty and great value. All the dishes we had were good, especially the creamy pesto pasta. The service slowed down a bit as the restaurant filled up but that wasn't an issue for us. The restaurant however is very noisy.
Philip Doyle
Food was nice (although it's difficult to screw up a pizza) and menu offered a good variety and a good price! The service could be improved a lot as we had to tell the staff that we were ready to order, and that we wanted to order a drink etc. atmosphere was good in a nice sunny location with big umbrellas and tables.
James Cole
Had a very tasty pizza from here, was a good size and full of flavour. Was quite full at the end of the meal and also a great location by the waterfront. Service was very good as well, the meal was delivered promptly.
Lucy
Recently dined at One Red Dog for a late lunch, we ordered the Lamb salad, the smoked salmon salad and the thick cut fries.
Both salads were extremely below average and looked as if they were cooked my incompetent chefs. The only thing that saved the meal was the delicious fries and yum vanilla milkshake. But honestly, anyone could pull those two off. Will not be returning

The red dog restaurant is located at a very popular tourism spot of Wellington port, however this does not means they are doing good job. Firstly we had to wait a while for ordering, they are short handed. Secondly we only asked for pizza and chips but got charged with extra, we did not ask for potato crisps therefore no ordering confirmation was given or repeated. Everything was presented within reasonable time but everyone was too bloody salty! Especially the potato crisps, seasoning was over applied and we have to sweep each chips to get those seasoning off it, I would rate it 1/10. Pizza is ok but based on $35 dollars, I am expecting they could be more generously on toppings.
Christopher Reese
Great tasting pizzas and wine list was tops. Nice relaxing casual atmosphere and service was above average and the staff were happy to provide recommendations which is a great sign if they eat there too.
Frans Pretorius
We had to kill time for ou delayed ferry. The food was okay but nothing to write home about. All and all added to the gloomy weather.........

Went here with my partner two nights ago as it looked like a nice pub to have a quick dinner at. The pub itself is just a standard pub environment, nothing special.

The service is average, had to ask for a lot of things like another drink, dessert menus, more water. They weren't that busy which is why it surprised me that I had to keep asking me for things.

The food however was really good! We had a garlic load to start, only problem with this is it had cheese on it which wasn't stated on the menu. I really don't like cheesy garlic bread so I scrapped it off my pieces. For mains I had the cannelloni and my partner had the Shawshank Pizza. Both were very well made.

If you are after decent pub food I would recommend coming here as it was good food and came out at a reasonable speed.

So One Red Dog has been around for quite a while and after paying a visit there today, glad to say it's still going strong and doesn't disappoint. I went with our young kids and immediately upon being greeted and offered any table we like, a selection of crayons and colouring-in drawings was planted on the table.

The garlic bread starter was really tasty, fresh and steaming hot. Due to young and fussy eaters on hand, went with the standard margarita which was still delicious. Generous servings of included fresh basil leaves made for a really yummy and cheese-gooey (in a good way).

I used to frequent ORD in Ponsonby a lot, and happily had dinner @ their Wellington counterpart last wknd. It was busy, as always for a Saturday eve, but we were luckily enough to grab a spot outside under one of their heat lamps. The service was fast and food good. I've never really had any dining issues @ ORD. We got a fast Indian pizza to share, some chips and wine to start our night off.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I love Wellington on a sunny day! My sister and I were down at the waterfront and made a beeline for a table in the outdoor seated area. Thankfully we were sat under a heater and JD a lovely view of the water.

FOOD: typical pub fare. We shared The Fastest Indian pizza - lovely tandoori taste but could have been a bit more intense. Nice touch with the popadom on top. Also had chunky fries with a yummy aioli sauce.

SERVICE: they were pretty busy tonight but I was happy with how quick they were to serve us. The lady who processed our payment at the end was funny too!

No big wow factor, but a good place to come if you want a low fuss meal.

Lawton
Had a late lunch with wife and baby. Pizza and fries. Pizzas were awesome and so was the service. I heard bad things about the place so came back to see if it was still good. And yes, lunch was still top notch. Will be back

Great pizzas!! Especially the beef and bernaise. The lamb salad is also fantastic, although at times they over cook the lamb a little - it's best medium rare.
Christine
I love the variety offered here. You could find something to please everyone. Busy place we had to wait for a seat, but not too long. I had the Blazing Saddles pizza, quite spicy and very tasty!
Alan Watson
I adore their gluten free pizzas. Very filling, and the base is delicious! Really nice toppings. I go here quite a bit even though it's on the pricier side, the food is worth it.
Linus
I have been here 3 times in the last 2 years. When we arrived it took a very long time to get seated even though the place was almost empty. The staff was nice but slow, after ordering it took a crazy long time for our food to arrive. As we were ordering we found out (the waiter told us) that many of the meals were unavailable, they had no chicken. Luckily once we found a meal it was no let down at all. I ordered the seafood pizza and it was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. The deserts were all a bit boring but the pizza was great.
To conclusion, this is a children friendly restaurant with high quality food, but the service is slow and many of the items that are listed on the menu were unavailable.

I only write reviews after visiting a place more than once so to avoid being overly judgemental- tonight, service was shocking and slow, food was less than average- chips were cold and we had to ask twice for condiments, coke was flat (but quickly replaced), staff were plentiful but appeared to wander around with no apparent cause and were less than attentive. Stuffed our order up and gave us our starter with our main. Place wasn't overly busy but huge delays on food. I won't be giving you a third chance. Sad- you guys used to be awesome and one of my favourite place to eat.
Came here looking for a casual meal on an Easter Sunday. It was maybe a quarter full but still very loud. We were seated in a generously sized booth for 3 of us. Staff were fairly efficient though we did notice some tables went uncleared during our meal.

The menu is standard pizza/pasta fare with a few side dishes. Drinks options were ok, the only on-tap beer was tuatara and the rest of the selection was way too overpriced.

We ordered two large pizzas to share which was plenty and left enough for lunch the next day. Base was good, nice texture and toppings had decent flavour.

Overall, it was ok. I'd probably only dine again if looking for a casual meal with a larger group.

You know when you just feel like a really Yummy Gourmet Pizza?

This is our Go-To place when we do for Dine in or Takeaway & it always taste delicious.

Our favourite is the "Chicken, Cranberry & Brie" topped with extra Cranberry on a thin base.

This time we ordered Takeaway & Fries to go with it too, my Daughter (Miss 14) classed them as the best she had tasted in ages.

What I also discovered it the 15 loading zone pick up for Takeaways directly outside, never noticed this before @ makes Takeaways even more easily accessible.

Friendly front counter staff, nice busy atmosphere inside for a Wednesday night with plenty of Professionals, Families & Friends dinning in.

Also love their Red & White checked uniform shirts! Cute.

Only improvement would be maybe a little more Chicken on the pizzas would be nice, as the odd slice has none.

We will definitely be back many times throughout the year.

Thanks One Red Dog
WCx

came here with a friend on a week night, the place was empty and looking kind of tired, what's happened in here? has there been a change of management?the food was below average, I ordered the lamb burger and I didn't finish it cause it tasted so bland and boring. Don't think I'll be coming back here in a hurry.

A very disappointing experience. Got sick with the tummy bug while being out at this restaurant for my birthday, and thinking this is a business in hospitality, you would expect the manager to support and lend a hand when unexpectedly throwing up at the bathroom door.. Instead, the duty manager kicked out all my friends from the restaurant and rudely asked one of my friends to clean up my mess. Fortunately she ended up cleaning it up herself, but with a terrible attitude, enforcing guilt on me and my friend.

Food seemed good, my friends enjoyed it. Just with such an unfortunate surprise in the night where I came down sick whilst being out, I would hope and expect that the manager would had been hospitable and helpful but she was rude and did not handle the situation politely. Was one of my favourite restaurants previously, but after such a disappointing experience - I will probably never go back..

Service was appallingly bad. Large group of 12 & not once did they come back & check on drinks. Staff just hung out behind the bar. Tables were not cleared & we were not offered desert. Left as soon as we could. If not been a work event I would not have payed. Shocking service.

Early on Saturday night, plenty of free tables, lots of staff. No acknowledgement from staff despite them walking past us numerous times. Decided not to wait.
Josh Coe
I went here with a couple of friends 2 nights ago, and was very impressed.
The FoH staff were great, friendly and welcoming, had us greeted and seated right away.
Despite having only 4-5 staff out front, and at least two BIG bookings on top of full house we got great service.
The maite d advised us that with the bookings there may be a delay in getting the pizzas, so brought us some fries to nibble while we waited - we hadn't got half way through them when the pizza arrived (probably 12-15min from ordering).
The pizza were really really good, perfect amount of toppings on a lovely base, great flavours and really filling (3 big blokes, and we all had the smaller size). My only regret is not ordering a small side salad to go with, there's an opportunity for them to upsell there!
Really good selection of cocktails, a few of which we sampled and were fantastic!
Sadly we didn't try the dessert menu, as we were so full from the mains. But I will definitely go back, maybe just for dessert and cocktails!

I normally don't write bad reviews about restaurants but I felt very disappointed after visiting this restaurant.
Ordered a Pasta, it was so expensive and only give like a little amount of food. The Pasta was cold, even after pre ordering the food came out late. Won't go again.

I normally don't write reviews about restaurants but I felt very disappointed after visiting this restaurant. The garlic bread was dry and the pizza we received was not the one we ordered. The pizza itself was ok however not worth the price we paid. The staff were not enthusiastic at all. I had to come up to the counter and order my meal even though they weren't busy. After finishing the pizza we were happy to have desert. However after waiting for a decent amount of time no one came around. So we left.
Clint
Have been here 5 times over the last 2 years. Love the food excellent. Service can be slow when busy seem to be short of waiting staff

Had a really lovely lunch this afternoon!! We were greeted really quickly with a huge smile and seated and told the specials. I feel like that never happens any more... food was quick and out pizza was delicious!! Best pizza I've had in years! Staff were lovely, music was great and the view beautiful. Will definitely be back!!

Just read Meghan A's review and I have to say, Be Real !
She sounded surprised that on arrival there were no tables - did she think the staff were lying when they said they couldn't take bookings on a Friday ? They weren't kidding - this place goes off !
Great Platter and an amazing Beef and BĂ©arnaise Pizza for the 2 of us was more than enough on my first visit, and as Will said the Tuatara Jugs at $20 are a must ( The banana beer - yes banana !) .
Having just moved to Welly I was told about this place by a colleague and have to commend his suggestion... a sunny afternoon on the deck with a jug of Tuatara with some of their yummy ( Homemade ) Pizza bread and Humous is a must at least once when your in Welly - Had the new Moroccan Lamb yesterday and trust me this is divine - if there was one pizza on this list you HAVE to try, this is it ! Great ( and pretty good looking ) staff and service in my opinion, and I haven't eaten and not left a tip yet!
One Red Dog... I will have One Red Letter Day when my visa bill comes after this sabbatical !

I'm not normally one for writing reviews. But I recently had family down and we went to the one red dog for lunch. The service was outstanding, They looked after the children very well and helped us keeled them occupied. The unique pizza's they sell are amazing we couldn't which ones we wanted so they split the pizzas and we had 8different types on 4 pizzas.

It has a great outside area perfect for afternoon drinks !!!!!!

You will see me again One Red Dog !!!!!!

After calling to try and book a few days before and being told that they wouldn't take bookings for a Friday evening our party of 7 decided to try our luck. On arrival we were told there were no tables and we could be seated outside. At about 8 in the evening with a lot of cloud and typical chilly Wellington breeze this was less than ideal but one of our party had always wanted to eat here so we stayed. We were eventually moved inside to a table that would have suited five better than seven, the place was packed and was very loud, we couldn't hear the waitstaff at all, but it didn't seem to matter as they didn't appear very enthusiastic to serve us regardless. We all got pizza, which were all ok, but $24 for 6 slices seems incredibly steep.
Overall not really a positive experience, with waitstaff who were dour and appeared keen for us to leave, overpriced average pizza and a loud oppressive atmosphere.
Dissapointed

Lovely spot on a sunny day. The Tuatara jugs are great value at $20. However, we ordered the "famous" antipasto platter and were disappointed. Lots of flatbread, bit bugger other portion sizes were small. Quiche was an odd inclusion. One caper berry was old and looked like it had been previously bitten in to, and possibly taken off a dirty plate. The inside was all dry, so the 'bite' had definitely occurred out of the jar. We raised this with the waitress who didn't really understand that we were complaining, nor did she apologise. In saying this, we will be back for drinks if not food. Rating would be higher if we didn't eat.

This was a great place for a 3 generation meal. Pizza, mussels, pasta and salad were eaten and all given good reports. Service was fast and the staff had a rapport with all the ages. It got a big plus from me because there was no need to squint at restroom sign to make sure the little figure had the mini skirt on--no there was a decent sized "Women's" sign on the door! Thank-you, we will be back.

It was a busy Friday night. We started with a couple of drinks in the bar area and that was good. Although lots of people there and not having booked we got our table and food quickly. Fabulous pizza and attentive service. The waitresses were pleasant and efficient. We'll go back.

Great Location.
Great Pizzas, and a good variety!
Great Beer - Tuatara on Tap - Awesome!

Should be 5 stars here, but the service was absolutely APPALLING!

Keep the Kitchen staff, and sack the rest.

Service very good, Patte and bread for entree outstanding and a real highlight, lots of flavour, Lamb Shank pizza for mains, lack little flavour and over cooked

Friendly staff on arrival but things went down hill from there. Ordered a salad. It was obviously not fresh so I sent it back. The staff were not happy about this and offered no apology. It seemed a real inconvenience for them. Second salad come out and looked no better so I asked for a pizza instead. This was nice but come out with string still attached to the lamb. When I mentioned this as we went to pay, they offered no apology and no discount. Pizza's are nice, but service needs considerable improvement. With so many great pizza places in WGTN, I don't think we will be back again.

My husband was looking forward to going to this restaurant but when we went we were both left feeling very disappointed. My husband was pleased to see gluten free pizzas on the menu and ordered one. The so-called gluten free there turned out to be a large piece of corn fritter with toppings. I ordered a vegetarian pasta, very average, got lots of onions which did not state on the menu. We said to the waitress that the only thing we had there that was tasty was the fries. Staff there was a bit strange. Anyway, we couldn't wait to pay and leave this restaurant and will never come back again.

the food was disgusting tasted old and stale. the only reasonable menu item they had was pizza which wasn't that great. i will never go back again and there menu is over priced for the items they sell. wait staff were also very impatient.

Definitely better than the other One Red Dog restaurant in Wellington, nicer atmosphere, great outdoor area, friendlier staff. Food not bad, service fast, would go again, as part of a family group. Need to get highchairs though.

Very unique pizzas but not fantastic tasting, nor very filling. The 3 times I've gone, we have ordered a pizza each, fries, garlic bread and deserts and still manage to feel hungry afterwards. The price for what you get is outrageously high.
