Review Kc Cafe - Wellington

Emily Fitzgerald
My partner and I have been wanting to visit KC cafe ever since seeing their sign that says ‘Best Roast Duck in Town.’ We finally visited today; I ordered the mapo tofu and my partner ordered the plum sauce duck with pickle. Both were amazing! The roast duck was well cooked and I loved the char on the skin. The duck sauce was so good that we ended up taking the leftovers home to pair with rice. The mapo tofu was also amazing! The sauce and pork were savory and paired well with the soft tofu. Each dish was about $20. I have have no complaints about the service and restaurant atmosphere. Both were fairly average. I highly recommend giving KC Cafe a try.

I went here about 4:20pm on Friday to pick up 500g of crispy roast pork which we loved the other day. A friend of mine picked up their famous fried squid. Both really tasty! Around dinner time, this place is always packed as I pass the place. Because of the timing, not many were seating but they constantly had customers coming in for takeaway pickups. Now I know why this place is so popular.

BEST roast duck in New Zealand!! The meat was so aromatic and tender, crispy skin, with some pickled vegetables to bring out some freshness. Huge wontons, the soup could’ve been more flavourful. We went back twice for the roast duck, absolutely delicious.

It is a bit hidden and the place is not that big, but the food is exquisite. It has several options from asian cuisine. It is quite interesting as a dining experience. The service was very good, I was able to order the protein that I wanted for a specific dish. The duck was incredibly tender and the noodles matched perfectly to enhance the taste. I highly recommend.

Got told to try this place out by my brother from another mother Tony. This place has got everything even for those fussy eaters. The only thing I found dumb about this place is the price of a bottle of drink at $5. Apart from that I really love the place.

The roasts are really good. Got myself a takeaway and still crispy and yummy after nearly an hour. Decent portion of vege to balance your taste buds too

Their deep fried squid is my favourite one. Spicy beef soup was amazing! There’re so many menus that I should try. Always love to come here👍

This is a great Cantonese spot in downtown Wellington. We ordered the BBQ pork, a pork bun and the duck noodle soup. They were all delicious. It can be a bit crazy during the lunch rush. The staff is friendly. I would recommend coming here for solid Cantonese food.

Apparently, this is one of Wellington’s institutions when it comes to Asian food. Somehow I managed to miss it despite of decades of being out and about across the region. Today was the day to remedy the oversight. The place was busy, and the loyal clientele was going for their favourites. I, on the other hand, was having difficulty trying to find my way through the dozens of items on the menu containing unfamiliar dishes. The luck of the draw chicken dish was moist and flavoursome. The reputation of the place is deserved. Recommended.

We always order the roast duck dry noodles and never ever dissapoints!!! 🫶 love you forever Kc

If you’re looking for a traditional ‘Chinatown’ restaurant, look no further. This was our first stop on a mini food tour of Wellington and the food we ordered was great. The menu is larger than the bible so I’m not sure if every dish is good but what we had we enjoyed. No tap to pay so make sure you know your card number to avoid embarrassment like me 😂

I tried the pork chicken barbecue with rice was ok. My friend took the prawn and chicken they were delicious. The service was good as it is super rush there so don’t expect a warm welcome. Best is they don’t mess up your food they remember what you order. They can’t understand English so keep your dictionary inside your pocket. Ta!

Good food portion size is impressive I like big portion A bit expensive 13 sep 2023 I ordered today prawn chilli bean paste It was wow great taste

If you want a no frills mean feed, this is where you need to come. You know the food is legit when the menu board is written in two languages. Everything is fresh, premises is tidy, dishes come out quickly. Don’t come here if you want to be pandered to, staff are here to work and churn out good food to feed the masses so don’t be offended if they seem dismissive, they just got better things to do lol we always come here whenever we come to Wellington. Do not confuse this with J&Ms, it doesn’t compare.

Fast service Restaurant was busy. Noodle dish had a great wok flavour. Would have scored a 5 stars if the seafood stir fried noodles contained real seafood and bigger prawns. Fried squid was nice, tad overcooked which made it chewy.

Brisket soup is out the gate!! This is the only late night spot you will get great food with a great Wellington vibe

One of the affordable food in town, lovely food and FOH lady. But sometime it’s a bit crowded, no offences good for business. Keep up the good work

Definitely a must-try restaurant in Wellington!! I became a super fan of roasted DUCK when I had Peking duck in China and I found this place serves great taste of juicy duck with crispy skin!! We also ordered hit pot dishes which tasted amazing so that we finished them all. The service was average but dishes are really yummy and not too expensive.
JamesNZ
Just always good! Whether eating in taking away. They friendly staff, portions are great, price is reasonable. You can order online (I do not think they do Uber eats) but there is another platform for pick up.

Roast duck, char Kuey Teow and deep fried squid are some of my favourites.
Helen Joe
Great cheap eats, efficient service and delicious Asian comfort food. The pan fried dumplings #5 is my all time favourite.

My bf is an afficionado re all Chinese cuisine even provincial cuisines. He has sampled all the best restaurants melb and Sydney have to offer.

According to him, kc is a clear winner in terms of food quality and value. He/we aren’t big fans of the dingy interior on offer here, but such considerations become minute once the taste/value factors weigh in.

Hats off to you kc, wish you guys were in Melbourne!

the place was dirty! although they have a good selection of food.
I didn't really enjoy it. I tried the deep-fried squid

for more check out @wellymunchers on the gram

Been coming here on and off since early 2000's (Vic Uni days, 2000-05). Back then most feeds were $8-10, now around $13-14, which is still good value, given the size.

Visited last week with brother and sister, over from Melb's, food was good, although slightly too saucy.
Shweta Borkar
Waited for 30 minutes for a take away of 2 dishes. Very slow in service. Not appreciated. One of the dish was a soup and nasi koreng.30 minutes for these two dishes is not expected.not happy at all. Not recommended.
Vicky Yiu
Super big fan of KC’s hot-pot. It raised my appetite and had me finish a whole bowl of plain rice, to company with those spicy but delicious meats and vegetables in the cooking hot-pot
Tim 51
Very friendly staff here and there’s a good selection of dishes to choose from.
The food is always fresh.
This place is always busy from lunchtime to the evening.
We love this place
Brad Winter
These guys serve ok food (though steer clear of the bland soups) but their service is shocking. Apparently it’s a major imposition to provide soy sauce or chilli - I was sarcastically asked “is there ANYTHING else?”. Seriously, if it’s that big a deal, just put it on the table like every other place does! Their attitude will mean I won’t go back - too many other good places in town.
Minh Khang
This place is amazing and would recommended for fast easy cheap Asian food just the only problem is there’s not many seats to sit in but amazing kind staff
Ryan
One of the best most reliable Asian eateries in. Wellington. Always busy, always great food and large servings. Huge
Menu selection on the wall.
Pro tip: order from the bottom half of the menu

Really yummy food. They get quite busy especially on late nights so to avoid the rush, I go early and get it takeaway to heat up later for dinner. Their chicken fried rice with pineapple is my favourite thing to eat when I'm craving chinese. Reminds me of home because I'm asian. Not quite the place to go on a first date but it's definitely a comfort food place if you're six months deep into a relationship. I definitely have seen at least one couple in their fat pants eating together. That is goals. Eating rice in jeans is actually hella restrictive.
Isaac Tuiala
Mee goreng generous portions. Dumplings are big and juicy how she likes it. If you’re up for good yarns with drunks head on down around 2am Saturday.
Michelle M Almeida
Listening to my friend's great review of KC, we finally had an opportunity to go there this evening. Absolutely loved the generously portioned deep fried squid (large @ $15)! Definitely going back for more.
Mareko Panapa
My favourite place to go for good Asian food. Love it here! I order a few different favourites from time to time just to mix it up. But the constant in all my orders are the dumplings, which are so filling!

This pl is popular on Courtney pl - huge selection of food, ok seating and reasonable prices - my go to is the roast duck noodle soup with ginger sauce and salt & pepper squid. My mate gets the bbq pork in rice. Love that it’s open late.
Dan Smith
Unbelievably slow (45 minutes for pad Thai and sweet and sour pork) and the staff are incredibly rude. Will not be coming back here again. There’s a reason the awards plastered all over the front door are 10 years old... also the building is earthquake prone but they keep the notice out of sight...
Jason Cheng
Food is okay, tasty, service, poor. Ordered KC tofu. cold in the middle. Told the serving staff, she denied it and put her thumb into the food and tried to give it back to me....I was speechless. Will never come back again.
Shirin Alexandra Bradfield
This is the best place to order pork on rice in the city. My review needs to be 140 characters so I’m writing some more words here. Rice, noodles, Haianese chicken, dumplings
Donna Low
This is the second time I had food from your restaurant. I thought the first time my friend recommended the fried Singapore noodles , it was good and big serving with lots of ingredients that i had to pack the balance home. Today my impression of your Wa Tan Hor was horrible with chicken,no veggies except for some miserable peas and very eggy instead. The chef should have informed me that they cant cook this dish or let me know they run out of veggies. Please get the chef to try Wa Tan Hor from other eateries, I can bet you will be put to shame with that type of Wa Tan Hor the KC cafe prepared. It is just so bad. Other restaurants have veggies, prawns, chicken/beef in it but yours is just weird! Wont recommend anyone eating there again if this is how food is prepared.

4.5/5 Taste
4/5 Display
4.5/5 Quantity
4.5/5 Customer Service

Very nice Chinese Restaurant in Central Wellington.

Fried squid seemed popular and it was a very good choice, ginger hiding in my beef brisket almost killed me but other than that these were superb.
Lady at the counter kindly brought my food over and wiped my table for me too.

Love this place. Food always taste great, it's fast and affordable. Definitely my go to place when I have a craving for pork congee or deep fried calamari or hainese chicken or hot n spicy tripe or my newest fav the salted fish fried rice hmm yumm and this is just to name afew😋 #foodislife

I’ve been going here for years. Absolutely love this place. Great food and better value for money. Their BBQ pork and roast duck is the best.
Nikita Rawnsley-Wratt
KC Cafe always delivers! Felt like a bit of a snack rather than a main meal and again was not disoppointed! Serving sizing are incredible for their price. And the are so tasty! Already think I g but what I will get from there for next time.
Camellia
I have come with my family so many times that I'm unable to remember what we ordered! But after school, I come here for a wonton pork noodle soup. I'm obsessed with wonton noodle soups. The meat was soft and chewy but not soft enough that it would fall apart or become soggy. There are a good amount of noodles, but the wonton is entire meat it would be better if they could add cabbage inside the meat. oh, and the roast duck is delicious.

Favourite takeaway in Wellington. I honestly don't know why people complain about the service seeing as they aren't trying to be a fine dining restaurant, the focus is on the food and it is beyond worth it. They are fast, no bullshit and give you the best goddamn feed of your life (especially at 3am on a Saturday). 10/10 in my opinion, people need to stop whining when they don't get a smile.
Rachel Lee
Awesome authentic little Hong Kong style cafe that stays open till the sun rises. This place makes me feel at home where their tasty efficient service is only one of their awesome qualities as a chinese cafe ❤️
Georgina Forsyth
Very good portion sizes and tasty food. My ethnic family and I felt very at home and the staff gave me a very warm welcome complete with a happy ending massage. I have brought all of my 8 wife's here and they all throughly enjoyed it, particularly Fatima as she is a sucker for a $36 roast duck.
Jake Elsmore
I often come to KC cafe on my dinner break. The service could be a bit better, the food more than makes up for it. Kc cafe is always humming with people, probably a testament to their vast range of food for a very fair price.
Mighty Will
Food was great. Service was ok, ambience could be better. We had the Claypole eggplant, roast pork, roast duck, choy sum with garlic, char koay teow. Everything was yum. We'll be back but probably for takeaway. Seating area wasn't so convenient for family dining.
Elton Wakefield
All their dishes so far I've tasted have been very good. My night team all love KC. Keep up the good work guys. Favorite dish = Stir Fried Lamb with Spicy Sauce. Yum

Always a classic go to takeaway or a fast dine in that's delicious and cheap. The vegetarian dish that I ask for is a customised fried tofu and Bok Choy on rice or the Mapo Tofu customised vegetarian... for all the vegetarians out there. Simple, but it does the trick. You can also customise other meat dishes to vegetarian...but choose with caution because some sauces may have a hint of meat as an ingredient. The meat options are definitely better in my opinion.

The service is a bit different but that's just the Hong Kong attitude... It's something that you shouldn't take too seriously they just tend to focus on efficiency and the food. You get use to it after awhile when you come back for more!

BBQ Pork/Duck, KC Tofu, Deep fried squid, Mapo Tofu, and the wonton noodle soup are my go to. My boyfriend's favourite is the pork in peking sauce.
Rebecca
This restaurant is always crowded meaning that the food is bound to be delicious. I frequently come here with my friends and have sampled many of the dishes. I recommend the deep fried squid, rice noodle soup with duck. To be honest you will be happy with most of these dishes!
Co-Leen Toolseram
Always so busy.... fish congee was amazing!!! My english friends had it for the first time and loved it. The pork buns is not the best o had but it is okay. Beef brisket is so good!
Autumn
Honestly one of the most frustrating experiences I've had in Wellington. The restaurant wasn't very busy but I waited almost half an hour and watched three people who ordered after me get their meals first. Was very frustrated when I watched, over twenty minutes after I ordered, them putting the roti on the stove (which took less than 2 minutes to heat up) and removing my curry from the microwave. When I got my meal, staff was dismissive and gave no apology for the wait. I would be more understanding if it was busier (there was only a small handful of other patrons) but I was left disappointed and irritated. The food quality wasn't great either.

This place is super busy so you better allow 15-30 minutes for your order! Everybody talks about this place like its the best chinese takeaway in Wellington and I think it is. Its not a fine dining restaurant but the food taste pretty up there with the likes of Ancestral down the road. Faves are Salt and Pepper squid. Chicken Fried Rice. Anything duck related lol
Salya
the food took over half an hour.. when I mentioned it to staff they accused me of lying and said I could leave. when the food finally came out no apology. I will not come back. the food is not worth being bullied for.
Stacy Heyman
A good place for a quick cheap Chinese meal. Last night I had vegetarian rice noodles with tofu which was good filling, Adam had sweet and sour chicken with rice which he also enjoyed. The side of salt and pepper squid was soggy, needed more flavouring as well - I think you order a different one for crispy squid? That's the only downer about this place - the menu. It's so hard to know what is what, if something can be done with rice or if it's noodle based and also what's vegetarian - things like "chefs special vegetarian" to me is super unappealing because what the hell is it?

Also for three dishes the total was over $40 which was definitely unexpected for Chinese take-away especially seeing as one was vegetarian and noodles with only two pieces of tofu throughout the entire meal - definitely disappointing.

Definitely will be back but will have to ask a few questions before ordering anything.
Jon Luke
spicey pork soup, char siu pork, dumplings.....i fucking love this place. food is so delicious and cheap! favourite chinese food place in town!
Vicki Wong
I've grown up on HK bbq food and this place is truly authentic right down to the older, sassy woman who runs the front desk. I always order off the roast bbq menu and the siu arp (duck) is a favourite. The roast pork is fairly lean but enough to keep it juicy and the bbq pork is a favourite amongst friends. The servings are large and if you like the noodle soup I recommend to swap out the rice noodles with egg noodles.
Gloria
I ordered the small fried tentacles of squid and hot&spicy fish. I love Asian food as I'm a Asian. But I have to say these two dishes are disappointed. It tastes like the oil they use to fry the tentacles has been used for hundreds of time. I'm glad I ordered the small one. Hot and spicy fish are not spicy at all. The soup is not tasty. Also there are more tofu than fish... I was surprised that many non-Asian people were having food in this restaurant! It seems like a popular restaurant in Wellington. The restaurant is small and in chaos. I don't think I would go back to this place any more.
Lemon.lemon.nz
Bloody good place for convenient quick dish. Been there more than 20times, every time was a pleasant experience. All dishes are tasty and quality made, good quantity as well based on the costs. However the hygiene of environment may need a lot improvement, one rag does all wipes, whatever , at the least the foods are nice!
Frank
I'd refer to this place as pot luck casual dining. It's been around for a long time. If you're after a Chinese dish with a difference that is really filling - look no further than KC's! I've got a lot of Asian friends that recommend this place. Service wise, there may be communication issues and a bit of a wait, but they do try. Menu could do with some pictures or further descriptions. However, I have confidence that anything this place cooks will be very good. The toilet and alley are in really poor condition so I wouldn't recommend this place to absolutely everyone but otherwise the place is excellent for a casual dine in or takeaway.
Hao Chang
One of my favourite rest in Welly. Of course the owner doesn't speak much English, and the toilet was in a mess. However this is a takeaway sytled rest, not a 5 start rest.
You get what you paid for.
Food was yum, that's what matters
Philip Reeve
Googled "best Chinese takeaway Wellington" and KC topped the list. The small space was packed with mainly Chinese clients tucking into various dishes.

Looking at the menu it all looks "genuine" rather than westernized. Sure there are a few token stapes but lots of traditional dishes too.

Every dish we selected was tasty and freshly prepared in the small cramped kitchen with blazing woks.

Pleased we ventured in!
Kelly White
Food is nice and quick. Prices are really acceptable. Service is not good and should do some more cleaning for the shop, especially for the bathroom.
Rhodri Williams
A nice little take away/restaurant. The salt and pepper squid was delicious and I'm an absolute sucker for the steamed pork buns. If a Chinese restaurant for a sit down meal is what you want then there are several others in very close proximity that are better suited for it. But this should be your local takeaway.
Amber White
I got the hot and sour chicken, I didn't have to wait for long for my food, it was roughly 5mins. However at busy times I've been waiting up to 30mins. The meal itself was delicious and really cheap for how much you get. I was only able to eat half of mine so I asked if they could put the rest in a takeaway container, they happily obliged. I will definitely be coming back here as the food is cheap and good.
The service isn't desirable, the waitresses are commonly grumpy but am willing to look past this as the food is so darn good!
Chris Vera
Food always tastes good, quick service and the price is definitely good... Just one big bad thing... Toilets are disgusting, looks like a latrine of a construction site with a pieces of wood instead windows. Toilets are also a part of the restaurant, they need to take care about that.
FoodiePhysician
A little chinese restaurant on one of the busiest streets in central welly; crammed among all the bars and clubs, it is one of few places that are open for a midnight feed.

Not much to look at from the outside but dont let appearances fool you. Inside this small eatery, theres a kitchen working overtime to feed the patrons that fully pack this joint even at this late hour (midnight).

Prices and portions are okay, 12-13$ per person

Had the orange beef and the roti chanai; both okay but beef was a bit salty not enough orange and roti was a simple spicy flavour, not complex or rich.

Meals are served very quickly; both meals were served while i was writing the first 3 paragraphs of this review.

Overall, its a good place for a quick bite late at night; no one will complain about the food or the venue. But in saying that, one's mind may change if one was to dine here during the day.

Quick and cheap, Three Yums
Crumpet King
YESSSS! God I love a good crispy skin pork belly. The duck is also A-mazing! My mouth is salivating at the thought. These guys are the shiz nizz. Fast and generous, and their skills with a cleaver are impeccable. You ninja that pork belly Nainai (Grandma) . 🔪

If you're wanting a bubble tea, skip over to the neighbouring tea joints. Bubble tea ain't their strong suit.

With friends, hungry and want good, inexpensive Chinese food? Go to KC Café. Want class and great service? Stay away. The location fantastic and not much fault can be found in the food considering it's price. Try the roast duck and the clay pots. Definitely worth one try.Food 4/5, Service 3/5, Price 3.5/5, Portion 3.5/5, Location 4/5

Love this place my chinese brother and I would always come here for duck Asian veg and rice a spend ours just chillin and talking before he left for China. Now I find myself eating here probably almost once a week with my friends/ family. The food quality is awesome and that disgusting greasy feeling you get from other chinese places u don't get from here I love their BBQ PORK AND ROAST DUCK and MAPO TOFU
MelJohn Detabali DelBarrio
I like love this place. Been eating here since I moved to Wellington. The ladies at the counter are very accommodating on my request and I even get free tea. I like my fast food so I've used the place for first date to screen prospective partners. Lol. I recommend ordering salt and pepper squid, hainanese chicken rice, sweet and sour and my favorite KC pork mince with tofu.
Humbleluxury
Good for hangover cure food! Also a great way to soak up the alcohol after a night out! The noodle dishes are my fave. Yet to try the duck, but it looks good too. Price is the big factor! Very affordable and generous helpings.
Rosemary Young
You don't come here for service or decor, but simple authentic Hong Kong cusine. Has quite a large menu offering. Large portions where some would say value for money. Definitely good tasty cheap eats. This is my go to place for something simple and relatively cheap.

Refer to my website for an indepth review.
Wilson Chau
This is a great Cantonese/Hong Kong BBQ eatery in Wellington. The city suffers from a lack of choice, unlike Auckland where Dominion Road alone must have dozens of these places.

KC cafe is quite a good place for a greasy, generous portion of Hong Kong bbq goodness. A huge menu, your classics are all there. Their duck fried rice and beef brisket is worth a try. Not really a place to go on a date, service/tidiness is pretty sloppy, but if you're going just for a cheap Chinese bite without expectations, then I recommend KC. It's at its best at 4am after a good night out.
Clark Rogers
KC Takeaway is always my go-to regular Chinese food, so much variety and taste, prices are brilliant and the staff work so hard to keep food quality at a maximum
Dean McDougall
I previously have been an advocate of this average-to-poor fast food restaurant. The food is great; cheap as chips. However, the customer service is most certainly the worst I have experienced before. An avid fast food-foodie, I wouldn't expect five star service; KC Cafe for those who are looking to dine out at a great priced Chinese food outlet this is your place. BUT, do not expect a smile or "Hello, how are you?" from the ladies behind the counter.
Lianne Hack
I have been going to KC Cafe since we arrived in Wellington in 2000. The food is always good, well priced and plentiful. My own particular weakness is the salt and pepper squid which I can't seem to deviate from. It is always beautifully fried with just enough fried onion and pepper to flavour the rice. Probably the best salt and pepper squid in Wellington. The lady at the till is not so bad if I smile at her and tell her I am hungry, I always get a bigger portion! Don't forget English is not her first language. My wife loved the Me Goreng and the kids like the BBQ pork which they always enjoy. I suspect that I will keep returning for the foreseeable future.
Varun Guru
The one and only one KC CAFE. Me and my wife are trying our best to hate this restaurant being frank especially because of the bad service from the ladies there, but after 1-2 weeks, we can't even restrain ourselves from being there. The food is so cheap too, as almost same of going to city new world, buying meat and grilling it, it's easy as KC Cafe.
Should say everything, the service is not good. But the taste of food deserves 4 stars.
Mac
Rushed food. The Stir-fried eggplant hotpot was luke warm, too salty and spicy when I asked for mild. The prices are okay, you get what you pay for I'd expect. It has been good in the past when it's not so busy, and I have bought takeaway yongcho fried rice before which was excellent. Slippery slope.
Jordan Lee
Thought I'd give this place a try because there were awards stuck on their entrance. Very disappointed. Every dish tasted the same – like salt mixed with some unnatural flavouring. The only positive thing I can say is that the meals came in large portions, but what's the point? It's too salty. The meat tasted weird. It just felt like I was putting really bad stuff into my mouth. On top of this – inattentive, disinterested, poor service. Might be good "value" for some, but not for me. Regretted eating here. Will not return.
Geoff Lockett
Has been a regular of mine for a couple of years...no nonsense good quality friendly-priced yummy food...usually for me it's either the salt/pepper pork spare ribs or the curry laksa most weekends, the orange beef is also great, i should lash out and try something else
Raymond Biggs
Many a night on the town has ended at KC Cafe...

Great prices, tasty and prompt food.

Should probably try it sober; but that would ruin part of the fun that is the KC Cafe experience!
Pete G
KC should be coined the "takeaway that never sleeps" due to their extended operating hours and the vivid white fluorescent street lights.

The price is reasonable given it's locality and the overall menu is generally Canton style dishes which will satisfy most foreigners of Asian origin and locals alike who enjoy dishes laced with salt. The Malaysian dishes are a poor attempt to fill space on their overflowing menu to the point of an insult to what it should actually taste, so your best bet is to stick with the mainland Chinese and Hong Kong dishes.

Part of the service comes along with the overall experience. Be sure to order your choice and pay in a snappy fashion or you will be at risk of being told off. Service with a smile is optional here.
Haeison Romero
For the price, an excellent choice. Great value for money, ambiance is basic but the food is authentic and fresh. Highly recommend!
I highly recommend the 2-3 combination meat dish with the roast duck and BBQ prk
Leo
Cheap quick yum and open till late. What could be better for youngsters like me.
Karlo
Just had the best salt & pepper squid from this awesome eatery.

I have also had the wonton noodle soup (with BBQ pork & noodles) and also the crispy pork on rice.

Service is fast and efficient.... food is absolutely delicious!

This is now a regular at the weekends.
Geoff Wilcox
Really good value food. Usually served promptly. One trap to watch out for .... there is a half step down near the table(s) at the front window beside the entry door. I have seen at least 2 people fall as a result of the step down that is difficult to pick up in a crowded and bustling area. So beware !
Hilda Low
Best value and tasty food for a no-fuss quick meal. Genuinely Cantonese, I like especially the roasted duck noodles, roasted pork noodles, wan tan noodles, fried rice with salted fish, etc. Service may seems a trifle "rude" sometimes esp if you do not know what/how to order - but that's the compromise you get for good/cheap food where there is a long queue...just like in H.K!
Carina Chang
cheap price and served quickly. their food are all good, a little of them just sort of sweet.
Kiwi American
Decent Cantonese-style Chinese cafe food with quick takeaway service.

The prices are very kind to the wallet, and you get generous portions of each dish you order.

Their BBQ pork and ducks are better than average, and I recommend the roasted duck and noodle soup. It reminded me of Hong Kong dining for sure.

They have a bit of Malaysian food available on the menu, but the cooks and staff are Chinese, so I'd stick with the Chinese side of the menu.

Mr. Kiwi and I really like the salt and pepper squid and the cha siu. The stir-fried rice noodle with beef (niu rou chao he fun) is also really frickin' good.

I always see Asians ordering the clay pots so will need to try that next time.

Cheap, tasty and filling.
Bob Lee
We have dined quite regularly at this busy Chinese Cafe in Courtenay Place over the last few years, and we feel they consistently offer the best valued and tastiest Asian food in Wellington. They have a wide selection of Asian courses for both locals and new migrants to choose from. Service is always fast and the staff are usually friendly. Although its not the most comfortable place to dine at (as their tables and chairs are quite basic and its usually quite cramped there) we don't really mind.........their large and generous servings of hot and yummy Asian food more than makes up for any discomfort we may have felt !!!
