Review Mama Brown - Wellington

We need a Mama Brown in HB. Meals are big and delicious & excellent customer service, free meal and complimentary drink for your bday. Definitely be going back again.

Music was a little loud but I am hard of hearing. Food and service was incredible. Great way to celebrate a birthday!

Celebrated my birthday here and got the birthday promo for June! It was a special day indeed! I love the Dirty Waffles and enjoyed the other food as well. Definitely coming back to try other food!

If you are after comfort food - say burgers, wings , shakes, curly fries - then Mama Brown should be at the top of your list. This is my go to place for a cheat meal. Be sure to Walk-in hungry and you will walk out full and satisfied. Quirky ambience, friendly staff and Outstanding food. The spicy wings served here is definitely one of the best in NZ. Highly recommended this place.

The service was great, the staff were friendly and efficient. The food is bit on the pricey side but for its size it is justifiable. We came in during their deals so we got a meal for free. I recommened the big mama feed of you want to try a lil bit of everything. The space is small but it's a great location.

This is my 3rd time , and not surprised is another great experience in Mama Brown. We ordered the Pork Ribs and Waffle Boy. All the food are nice and the portions are pretty big. Is worth to have a fry in Mama Brown. And because is my Birthday so I’m lucky to have a FREE MEAL (Mama Brown Birthday Treat Event)

Visited this evening en route to the airport, welcoming staff and warm atmosphere. Quick turn around with delivery of food and we were able to utilise our student discounts also which was handy! Asian female staff member was bomb! Thanks so much girl! Sitting at the airport eating our food, and although it's still good it would have been even better! Highly recommend Mama Brown's

Came in for a quick lunchtime bite, great service I can thoroughly recommend their Vanilla Milkshake and Chicken Burger, go for the extra pickles, they’re sublime A***

Lovely atmosphere, cool interior and great service. We (3 friends and I) went for the Wednesday 2 for 1 deal, and had a great time. The food portions are huge, and absolutely delicious. We shared 2 plates between 4 of us as well as 2 milkshakes, and the waitress was more than happy to split both the food and milkshakes in half, which was very much appreciated. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and overall amazing experience. We even split the bill between 4 of us and it worked out to $17.25 per person, which we thought was great value for what we had. Make sure to follow these guys on their socials to keep up with all the latest deals. Absolutely great place, love it 🥰👍 Will 100% be coming again.

Loved it. The philly cheese steak was great and the fries nice and crispy.
Mark Panapa
Pretty decent food served here and is a solid for quality. Would like to Poe Boys on the menu, the current menu still holds weight. The American Breakfast washed down with a margarita was banging!
Audrey Tupua
Lovely customer service. Friendly staff always greeted with a smile. Food was wonderful. The milkshakes are to die for!! I wish I could give more stars! Thank you for the wonderful experience, will definitely be coming back again soon.

Our first visit - glad I chose this place for our pre-show early dinner. Easy to pre-book online - refreshingly, without dooming myself to daily marketing emails. 😃 Happy with the prices for the type and amount of food. Excellent service from attentive, competent, and pleasant wait-staff. Decor is pretty standard Americano-retro, but not overdone. Background music was unobtrusive - also very refreshing! Food was very tasty, well prepared, and served promptly. Excellent fries! The ribs were seasoned just right, and cooked to fall-apart perfection. Chicken wings were tangy and crisp. Dirty Bird burger got big love from a burger fanatic - though the hashbrown layer was unexpected. Salads were fresh and flavourful, if a bit predictable - personally I'd prefer more greenery and fewer chips. Our first-time try of a Philly cheesesteak found it only "okay". All of us found our serving sizes a bit too big. Good range of drinks - the cookies-and-cream dirty sundae went down *very* nicely, I'm told. Overall, will happily go back - and likely order a smaller option.

Food was great big portion size & dessert pay to share it as it's big size.

Food is okay, but fried chicken is quite dry and bland. Wouldn't come unless I am really craving for American food.
Sreeram Nattath
The best place for youngsters who wants to eat a lot of good yummy food. Its just near the cuba street. The portions are quite large for chicken wings, pork ribs and even milkshakes you get very large size. Also of you follow their instagram page you can get occasional coupons every month on offers like one plus one mostly on Wednesdays.
God
Absolutely love the food. Great place to go if you like big massive feed 🙂🙂🙂
CARO CONSUMES
The decor is spunky and eclectic which is briefly amusing but then becomes a bit much quite quickly. But that aside, I was craving chicken and waffles. I made the mistake of assuming that an American style diner in Wellington would serve the chicken I was daydreaming of from Nashville, Tennessee. The chicken waffle sandwich really makes you understand the law of diminishing returns in that the first bite is fun but each bite thereafter goes downhill. Tastes okay-ish but didn’t make it possible for me to stuff my face as I’d wanted.

Food was alright. I like how there's 2 for 1 deals, very couple-friendly. Interior vibe is very casual, I like the . Food portions are really good but it could be a little cheaper for its price. Would come back on a special occasion, if I crave soul food or if I'm extremely hungry.
Melanie Clarke
The milkshake was the only good thing about the meal. Burnt burgers and really small servings compared to price.<br/>
Caleb Olsen
I personally wouldn’t recommend coming to Mama Brown on any other day than Wednesday for their 2 for 1 main deal. Otherwise on a regular day, you’re paying far too much for average food.
Kylie
The southern fried chicken is my favourite as well as the wings! I love the new milkshakes they always have every now which keeps it fresh! This is a great place for decent portioned meals and I love the vibe of the place. Staff a super nice too!

I came here for a very good friend's birthday party. My partner and I weren't too sure on what to order, but we're both big burger fans, so in the end we both decided on the chicken halloumi gourmet burger. Unfortunately I was unable to take a photo of the burger, but as soon as I saw it I realised what Mama Brown actually is, an overpriced fast food joint. Though the chicken was at least moist and the halloumi was tasty, this was possibly the worst burger I have had. In a city where you can get so many amazing burgers and craft beers ON TAP, I really do not understand why mama brown is popular. The tomato was sloppy, the iceberg lettuce was wilted, the "chipotle lime aioli was non existent, and the bun....oh the bun, was clearly the cheapest bun you could get from countdown.<br/>They obviously have an American diner vibe going on.. and I understand that its supposed to be fun, and quirky quick food...but.. this place is not worth the money. I wish it were.
Nitisha Arora
Such an amazing place to chill! Had halloumi burger, Cajun fries, fried chicken burger called Big papa along with a couple of cocktails as shown in the pictures below. Food was absolutely fantastic and the cocktails are to die for! Didn’t try their milkshakes as yet but I have heard great things about them.<br/>The chicken burger was cold when served, we asked one of the staff members to heat it up. They actually made the entire burger from scratch again! That was a very nice gesture. Highly recommend this place, perfect for hanging out with your family and friends.
Steff.ho
To be honest, the food looks a lot better than it tastes. Totally Instagram-worthy but it didn’t boast much flavour. The milkshakes are awesome though, I would give them 5 stars
Robbie Viper
I had heard great things about the food, but when we arrived we were shown to a table that had not been cleaned properly and left sitting till the waiter came back to clean. We were given menus and told that someone would come and take our order, however after 15 minutes waiting and the waiter who seated us starting to bus tables beside us we got up and left. The menu looked good but we never got to try any of the dishes.
Michelle McAteer-Ross
Poor kids next to us were given no cutlery for their breakfast as they “were being washed in dishwasher”. My friends burgers were below average and I would like to thank them for their service but we didn’t get any!
Crackerjacker
Fantastic good here! When I went it was quite busy and I understand why, it’s a ready nice quirky place great for going out with friends for a btw to eat.
Warren
My sister in law has been following the restaurant on Instagram and was super keen to give it a try and after perusing the menu, so was I.<br/><br/>We went for lunch, restaurant was quieter then I expected. We waited to be seated and got to sit in the aeroplane seats which was really cool, very comfortable.<br/><br/>As I always say service comes before food and Mama Brown dropped the ball on the service. We were brought menus and then were left and told someone would be round shortly to take our order. The table next to us who arrived after us were served first and we only placed our order after I went and asked if someone could assist us. From arriving, to food being on the table was 40 minutes with a relatively empty restaurant is not good enough. I did enjoy my classic cheese burger and it was exactly as described in the menu but after the poor service it was a bitter sweet meal experience.<br/><br/>If your not one for service but want to try the food, give it a go. Want service with your meal, give it a skip.<br/><br/>Food: 75%<br/>Ambience: 70%<br/>Service: 60%<br/>Coffee: N/A

Great family eating, fair choice of dishes, great portions, recommend the cajun fries. I had the Haloumi salad, top notch! Nice friendly service quirky plane seats are a feature
Cody Dunstan-Brown
A top location in the heart of Wellington, great grub and even better thick and creamy milkshakes to die for! Think twice with having one as a meal as they’re very filling
Tarun Parmar
Average, burger was abit dry a little taste could be added by some sauces. Would rate it 4. Too much space between the table and the plane style seats.
Vicky Yiu
Good but lack of surprise, kinda typical western food for asian people, which is a little bit greasy to finish for two people. But it is still satisfied overall
Chapman
Great food, great service and well priced for where they are and what they offer. I'd highly recommend their chocolate brownie, their burgers are amazing too 😍😍

One of my must go to places when in wellington. No better way to start a day then with a hot brown boy from Kentucky. <br/><br/>The fun Decor and creative seating arrangements makes for a very informal and relaxed setting. Perfect bend of American and Mexican street food washed Down with one of their perfect blended milkshakes 😘 great place to be with friends and family
Sheryl
The amount of times I’ve been here is insane! Their food is total mouthgasms! <br/><br/>My absolute fav is their chicken waffles, I could literally feast on this meal 24-7. <br/>They do really decent milkshakes too. <br/><br/>Pro tip: visit them on a Wednesday as they do 2 4 1 meals!
N Simadri
Good food, good portions but its soooooo noisy in there....!!!!!!! I couldnt hear my friend sitting infront of me. Dinners come in groups of younger crowds with no consideration of others...eat there on a less crowded time to enjoy a decent meal. Felt like I was in a fish market, poor waiter couldnt hear my order...recommended

I had been looking forward to try this place out for so long as everytime me and my partner walked past by, it was always busy. Finally had the chance and it was rather disappointing. Even though we had made a reservation we still had to wait a long time to be seated. The food was pretty average and the service left us with a really unpleasant experience.
Megan Barr
I have always wanted to go to Mama Brown as I've wanted to try their famous milkshakes.<br/><br/>I went with a friend at around 9pm on a Friday night for a late dinner.<br/>The restaurant was very busy and noisy, so if you're wanting a quiet atmosphere, Mama Brown is not the place to go to on a Friday night.<br/>The seating arrangement in the restaurant is rather cramped. There were a couple of times where it felt like some of the diners around us were talking over myself and my friend.<br/><br/>The service was excellent.<br/>We were seen to immediately after we walked in and seated.<br/>We were given ample time to view the menu before our order was taken.<br/>My friend asked about the Southern Fried Steak on the Specials Board and waitress was amazing and advised my friend that the steak was more like a schnitzel, which is not what my friend wanted.<br/>Even though it was extremely busy, we didn't wait long for our meals to arrive.<br/><br/>I had the Big Papa burger, small Fries and a Double Chocolate Brownie Milkshake.<br/>The meal was very good and very filling (I was unable to finish the fries) and the shake was amazing.<br/>However, the small serving of coleslaw that accompanied the burger was rather lacklustre and not eaten.<br/><br/>Despite the crowded and noisy atmosphere of Mama Brown, the service and food was excellent. I would definitely eat here again during a quieter time of the day.

Came here for the first time on a Sunday night for a table of 4 because the interior looked nice. Took 10 minutes to be seated when there were already 4 empty tables (seemed like this staff member didn’t know what she was doing as she went to ask another 2 staff about seating us). Took too long for our order to be taken (staff weren’t looking around to see if we were ready) and overall almost an hour for the food to come out when the place wasn’t that busy. Overall, the food was average but service definitely could have been quicker and better.
Meg Howell
I am currently visiting Wellington and Mama Brown was recommended to me through a friend.. this place is amazing! The vintage vibes give it such a rustic feel and the one man who served us was absolutely amazing!! The food was so gorgeous like there was French toast with bacon chicken salsa and cheese but it wasn’t weird it all just bloody well worked beautifully!! The peanut butter chocolate and caramel milkshake was no kidding BLOODY BEAUTIFUL!! I’d sell my first child for this shake I tell ya!!!!

Mama browns is a bit over rated in my opinion. Very pricy for average food. Milkshakes were good but very small. Nachos were ok but lacked flavour. 3 star rating
Cindy Sinkinson
Sorry but I won't be recommending Mama Brown to anyone, we were rushed in asked if we were ready to order after being seated for less than 2mintues, no mention of drinks or specials when told we had not decided she came back every few mintues to ask again and again, I understand your need to flip tables but that was ridiculous the place was over full even your wait staff couldn't reach some of your guests, they had to hand over the knifes and forks over tables and heads. The food was boring no imagination and not worth the price. I was really disappointed.
Vin 123
Great service! Staff were friendly and the girl that bought our meal out to us had some good banter which I really appreciated! Food was of huge portions! And very tasty. We had the nachos and a small portion of cajun fries. These were both massive and between two of us we couldn't finish.<br/><br/>Great place to pop in and dine at. I'll be back!

I went to Mama Brown not really knowing what to expect. Last time we went it was just opened and empty. Since then it certainly has put itself on Wellingtons food map. It was buzzing.  I really liked the atmosphere but a bit more room between tables would be good. Foodwise, I was impressed, I went for the chicken and waffles as I have always wanted to give it a try. I loved the combination and will be back to have the same again. <br/>All up, a great place and we will be returning with the teen when she does something that needs a reward and a milkshake, saw them being made and they need trying.

Best Milkshakes in town! Ordered the double chocolate fudge brownie milkshake and the espresso one. It was YUMMY! We also had the waffles with caramelized bananas, the cookie monster and eggs and bacon with toast. The prices are reasonable and the size of milkshakes is HUGE.
Zoe Holt
Just went and got a couple of milkshakes with some Sals pizza, the gentleman serving us was so lovely! Didn’t catch his name but he was English. Told us the favourites in terms of milkshakes, the best places to go to enjoy it (waterfront) and even offered us their oven to heat up the pizza. I love this place so much, a must for if you’re in Wellington!
Harvey
Chicken and Waffles was dry, not enough maple syrup for the size of the waffle. The BBQ pork rib is tender but no char flavour. It’s like boiled pork rib brushed with the marinate. The quantity is there but needs to improve on the quality.
Jessica Cooper
I wonder if we were expecting too much from this place with the build ups, but it wasn’t as great as we we’re expecting. Nice burgers, but nothing fancy. Enjoyed the waffles, but nothing fancy. We did love the shake of the month, which at the time was salted caramel toffee pop, and that was a giant indulgence. Enjoyable environment that is busy but spacious. We’d return, but not it a hurry.

When I approached the doors of Mama Brown, I was shocked to find that they were not open at 7am on a Monday morning! In the hopes of the doors bursting open at the seams at the sight of my overwhelming breasts! But no! I was standing there for a good 25 hours in the rain on Waitangi Day! When I should've been enjoying 5 hearty chicken and waffles for my ample stomach. And in response to what your staff said, I do not need congratulating on my non-existent baby! However, upon walking in, wearing my drenched clothes from standing in the rain for over a day, I ate a delicious piece of chicken for the low low price of $45.70, all my worries were washed away! I can't wait to indulge in what I hope will be a complimentary meal on my next trip here on Christmas Day! Thanks for an amazing experience! <br/><br/>~CroissantMuncher

We went here and I ordered fish and chips which was really nice and my partner ordered chicken burger and the food was really good we loved it. 💕 we would love to comeback again.

3.5/5 Taste<br/>4/5 Display <br/>3.5/5 Quantity <br/>3/5 Customer Service<br/><br/>Pretty average cafe with ordinary food, <br/>Found it quite over priced.<br/>Customer service wasnt too great either, their atmosphere and decorations were alright but the cool looking chairs were all reserved when there was no customers at all.
Georgia Kelly Moore
Amazing service and food, felt welcome as soon as we walked in! Giant shakes that are super sweet and sickly (would probably recommend sharing if you’re getting a big meal - try the banoffee pie). Would definitely come again, we all loved their chicken; the burger and waffles ☺️ Such a cool set out and vibe as well!
Jason Campbell
My burger was overcooked. Even the bottom bun was hard. There wasn’t any type of sauce on it, which made the overcooking of the patty stand out more.<br/><br/>The fries and milkshakes were really good, and they brought the kids some coloring items which helped with the wait.<br/><br/>The staff are friendly. <br/><br/>My low rating was solely based on the burger quality, which was the whole point of going there (a friend recommended it).
Pearl Clarke
Can I get a HELLLLL YEAAAAAAH. oh my god is the place good for a hangover cure, I came to mama Browns 3 times whilst I was in Wellington and I enjoyed it every single time. The hallomi burger is actually super tasty, it's a light burger and doesn't leave you falling into a food coma. The mushrooms and the cheese go so well together. The milkshakes are like a meal in itself but they are super thick, creamy and cold (Oreo one is to die for) the style of the place is super retro with aeroplane chairs to sit on- as much as I hate aeroplanes these were cool! Would highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys a good burger and milkshake

Came to Mama Brown for lunch on a Wednesday while visiting Wellington with a couple of mates. <br/><br/>There were some positive aspects of Mama Brown however the experience could’ve been improved through some better service. <br/><br/>The food was tasty albeit a little overpriced (I ordered the fish and chips and paid $27; one could definitely find cheaper fish and chips). The service was good for quite a casual restaurant with the exception of two instances. I ordered a latte with my food which never came even after asking the waitress about the delayed latte. The fries were also inconsistently fried; some being overcooked and others undercooked. The fish was otherwise alright. <br/><br/>All in all a very instagrammable restaurant with decent service, but some things do let them down. Would still recommend if you want a casual lunch. <br/><br/>

Signed up here specifically to warn ppl on just how bad this place is<br/><br/>Went here today for a team lunch and was truly dire. Do not recommend checking it out. Food disappointing, slaw came out smothered in generic tomato sauce, burgers small, dry, tasteless & overpriced. Asked for mayo to go with fries and was told they don’t have any that they only have aoli. Looked very confused when I told them that aoli IS mayo. Workmate gave me hers and it was the consistency of milk blech.<br/><br/>Felt the need for a drink and so called Margherita was just as awful as the food. <br/><br/>Please don’t waste your money on this awful awful place. There are far superior options in Wellington that are more deserving of your money
Aman
Went here for dinner last night absolutely loved it the food was amazing I got the chicken tacos and the milkshakes both were in point also the vibe of the place is dope. Also really clean and tidy and for how busy it is the service is fast and friendly.
Heyzurem
The menu is ridiculously overpriced! The burger is tiny for $13.50. Table setting is so much like a fast food chain and too casual. It’s not a place I would highly recommend for a burger. I am so sorry but I was not satisfied at all. 😥
Sean P E Fleming
Team lunch. Not much in the way of vegetarian choices. Halloumi burger or halloumi salad. <br/><br/>Ordered the burger and a large fries for several of us to share.<br/><br/>The burger was smaller than expected. The halloumi was a bit sparse, especially for $13.50; it doesn’t come with fries. Overpriced in my opinion.<br/><br/>That said, for a lunch it was a good size. Not too much but could have benefited from more halloumi. <br/><br/>Fries were plentiful and enjoyable.
Hone Heron
Really good food, but overpriced for what you get. Quality is there, but the value is not. Really nice atmosphere and a brilliant ambience. Milkshakes are spectacular though!
Maïlig Dinis
Good place. I took a Cookie Monster and the waffle was very good. Good quality for affordable price. I recommend it. But if I may say, cup must be clean before to be used... Just a advice !

First time to try this place when I went there with 4 friends from overseas. It was around 7pm and it was pretty crowded. We had a reservation but still had to wait until a table was vacated.  I had their Buffalo Chicken Wings, Choc chips shake (with Baileys, Kahlua, and Oreo); my friends had a Pulled Pork Burger, chips, and assortment of drinks and shakes.  My Canadian friend was surprised to find the burger "that small considering the price", but she said it was "ok".  Buffalo wings were good but not that extraordinary, and the Choc chips shake was, at most, average (hardly any taste of the Kahlua and Baileys), and again, for the price, they could have used a bigger mug.  We were surprised to see that it's obviously very popular, as people were standing near the door waiting to be seated.  The ambiance was not that good as it was too cramped -- the tables were very closely packed together (obviously to maximize the seating capacity of the small place), the back of seats were practically touching each other.  The waiting staff were great though!  Very nice and patient! Overall, the experience was good, but not that outstanding.
Steven
Mama brown is a good restaurant with good delicious meals.<br/><br/>The line out the door speaks for itself.<br/>Chalk written menu board and the flight seats both add that something special to the restaurant.<br/>Why I gave it a 3.5 was because of the cleanliness of the store, the service and the arrival of the food.<br/>Our cups weren’t clean, they had floaters in them and food on the floor around us.<br/>We arrived at the store for our 6pm reservation and placed our order by 6:10, we were told at 6:30 that there was a mix up and had to check what we order again, but said it would be made ASAP. At 6:37 our drinks arrived. <br/>We eventually got our food at 6:43.<br/><br/>Wednesday is there busy night so I understand, and even though the mix up and delay in our food I will still go back. <br/><br/>They do need to fix their wobbly tables, this is not a long term fix.
Em
Food was below average, friend got the chicken waffle burger and the waffle was soggy and chicken was not crispy. I got the fries with meat and cheese and they were nice. They were a side but quite pricey.<br/>The milkshakes however are to die for, they are thick and full of flavour and massive. They actually tasted like the flavour and they include real ingredients. For example my friend got the kit Kat milkshake and it had real pieces of kit Kat in it and tasted just like one! Would come back just for the milkshakes however not the food.

Milkshakes Milkshakes Milkshakes <br/><br/>This place makes the best milkshakes that I've ever had. I really enjoy the chocolate peanut butter one its just like a liquid Snickers.
Elyse
Such a cool place great for something different. First time I visited here I got the fish and chips, unfortunately the fish was caked in a very thick batter so was too heavy to eat. Everyone at the table who got it felt the same way and I even ended up going home sick due to how rich it was BUT I wanted to love this place. Went back for the second time and got chicken and waffles.. redeemed everything they were so good! Great brownie milkshake too my partner and I had to share it it was so big.
Luna
Paid $19 for "nachos" that were only stale corn chips, cheese and mushroom. Plus $10.90 for a bad mojito. Staff were somewhat friendly but overall a terrible experience
Momo
Super cute ambience. Colorful and seated on airplane chairs. :) <br/>Craved waffles so we ended up here after checking the menu outside the restaurant. <br/>Nice place to come for a date or catch up with friends.
Coco
Went on a super buzy day during a promo they were having. Had to wait as we didn't book in advance but was able to get seated quickly due to sheer luck! Food was amazing! Service was quick and informative! When paying after thw meal the Dude at the counter was humorous, good to have friendly services during such buzy time! Highly recommend to try out this place when you go to welly 😁

This afternoon I booked a 4 pm reservation with my newly arrived friends from overseas. When I arrived, the staff attended immediately and we proceed with our orders. My friends and I are happily chatting for we haven't seen each other for years. Not minding the time; staff comes like every 5 mins and asks how was the food. "The food is good" we replied every time they asked us. Then another staff came over and told us that they only have a maximum of 1 hour stay per customer and that we overstayed already. I was shocked because they never mention about it prior and I've been an avid fan of Mama Brown and it was my first time being kicked out from a restaurant. I feel embarrassed; my friends was in shocked too because we haven't finish eating yet. We have no choice but to packed our food out. I was so disappointed I won't recommend it to any of my friends ever. I understand that they have lots of customers but they should have mentioned it before hand. Food should be enjoyed and not being timed.

Really do enjoy coming here! Great service and atmosphere and delicious meals! My friend and I will always come in and get milkshakes (best part) with our meals! I love the brownie and kit kat one!!
Jocheli015
Had a super memorable experience, amazing food and generous portions. Music was lit and staff were super cool. Very accomodating of our big loud rowdy group and the food came out promptly despite the busyness. If you want some of the best shakes in town, Mama B got you covered!
Foodie
Very average...over priced. I think this place is popular because of outta location but $20 for a plate of nachos? $9 for a shake?<br/>Never again.
Veeral Patel
Had the chicken/waffles and chips on my trip to Mama Brown. The chips were cooked well and were not dry at all. When I had the chicken and waffles, I felt that it was better to eat them individually as opposed to together.<br/><br/>But in sayings that, the chicken was well cooked and moist as well as the waffles.<br/><br/>Good portion and ambiance - love the mini posters and airline seats. Will be coming back soon 🙃
Nessa Knell
If you love spicy food I definitely recommend the Buffalo Wings, very spicy but very delicious! If you feel like cooling down your mouth after I recommend both the Salty Goodness dessert and a milkshake, the Kit Kat is pictured but Banoffee Pie (which is semi pictured) is definitely the best!
ImyNTom
Came here with my brother as he shouted the treat. Absolutely the best milkshakes in town!!! Ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter & Caramel Shake and it was delicious and big. Also ordered a chicken burger which was really nice! My brother had ordered the Chicken Waffles, Choc Fudge Brownie Shake and Chilli Cheese Fries. Will need to take my partner here next!!
Linlin
I had read the reviews for this place and from the pictures I saw I knew I was going to order the chicken waffle sandwich. It exceeded my expectations! From the moment we walked in, the staff were super friendly and served us promptly. I also had the coco pops shake and that was 11/10!! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back for more great food.
Christian
food wWas good and the ribs were massive but also juicy and soft. I only wish the chips came separately as they were soft hidden under the sauce of ribs. Friendly and efficient service too.
David_K
Walked past this eatery last night on the way to another establishment, it was full. With a good review score I visited today for lunch. <br/><br/>Ordered the pork ribs and nachos. Unfortunately both underwhelming. I knew I was in trouble when the ribs came on a bed of fries - warning, warning.<br/><br/>Both dishes were bland, and the ribs were quite expensive.<br/><br/>Chocolate & banana milkshake was good, but at $9 NZD overly pricey.<br/><br/>
Mima Kurian
We ordered spicy chicken wings and yhe wings were very dry. The only thing i found good here are their milkshakes. Food is overpriced i guess for the taste, felt like the worst 60 $ i ever spend on food!. Ambience is fine.
Mike Biggans
Awesome Shakes as well as the buttermilk chicken! But it is just so cramped and loud. If you're looking to book for just two people i wouldn't even bother, we booked in advance and got seated right next to the entrance door.
William Donaldson
Had an average burger here. It was cold as well as the chips. My partner had the eggs and she reckoned she could make better eggs with her eyes closed. We won't be going back.
Jordan
Food is good but smaller portioned burgers so order chips or a side to go with it.<br/>Bit pricey for what you get but nice clean place and they do run a few specials throughout the week!<br/>I personally like the Kentucky brown boy as it is very filling and has quite good flavours.
Chelethammavong
Went here on my last trip to Wellington. The staff were friendly and didn't mind my loud little 1 year old. Food was great and a very good portion for the price. Totally recommend everything on the menu especially the shakes!
Louie
The ribs were nice but not fantastic. The real highlight here is their milkshakes. These milkshakes really are the best in Wellington. Friendly owner who made us feel at home. I will happily return to eat here again. <br/>

Came here on a Friday night so place was packed as expected. Book a large table, and everybody was so close together. Definitely not a good place to come on date night! <br/>Service wasn't the best. Waiter was run off his feet. <br/>Food was very average. American style food. <br/>Over all, an average experience!

One of my to-go cafes. You can't actually go wrong with any of their dishes! <br/><br/>Would 10/10 recommend to go here especially on Wednesday where they 2for1 the whole day! <br/>Foods were delish, I once came to their Weds promo all by myself just to indulge myself with their amazing foods!<br/>Love the ribs! It was so tender and the meat just came off from the bone like that<br/>Love the chicken waffles! Tender, Crisp, sweet waffles, what can go wrong? <br/>Nachos is also good! Portion-wise, they are awesome <br/><br/>Check out their thick milkshakes!

Came on a busy 2for1 Wednesday night.. didn't have any booking therefore needed to wait for a bit.. soon after a table was ready the waitstaff quickly cleaned everything with a smile :)<br/><br/>Ordered waffles with fried chicken, French toast with fried chicken, and a double chocolate fudge milkshake.<br/><br/>LOVING the food.. ADORE the milkshake. Food portion was great and tasty. <br/><br/>Overall it was a great experience.. all of the staff were very friendly (even though it was hectic!) and good food :)

I had waffles & they were delicious! Peppermint tea was divine. The staff were warm & welcoming, the atmosphere was quite lovely. Love the decor, especially the furniture & props on the walls & ceiling.

I went to this restaurant on the early January. During the trip of Wellington, this meal was the best we had in Wellington. Affordable price and very yummy. l was so satisfied with a big beef burger (with egg and beacon). Classical America style and good atmosphere as well. Definitely want to come back again.<br/><br/> l saw some people ordered a big drink and not sure what it was. l want to try it if l visited Wellington again. Interestingly, some colorful lanterns were hang on the ceiling. As an Asian, l felt that it embraced culture and diversity. In short, love here.

Great service and fantastic shakes. Prices are a little steep for what you get. If you order a shake with your meal this will have you feeling very full. We only go here for fast food type meals if we are really hungry.
Claudia Serra
If you want not so healthy but out of this world delicious food then this is the place for you. Everything I've tried here has been outstanding. Big thumbs up to the milkshakes - they have a new special flavour every week! Staff have always been friendly but beware - this place fills up QUICK on the weekends (for good reason).

Loved this place! We came in late afternoon on a Saturday and shared the chicken wings and BBQ ribs. They were super delicious. <br/><br/>We need to try some of those awesome looking milkshakes!

Big eats, cheap price tag. Thats what you get on a 2 for 1 wednesday from 11 till 11. I ordered the ribs and my dining companion had the Kentucky Got Brown Boy (southern fried chicken with cheese and bacon a top french toast) plus an oreo milkshake. The milkshake was large (at $8.90 I'd hope so) The dish lacked flavour and the chicken quite dry. The ribs however were succulent, tender and full of flavour. Recommend booking if you want to come here on a Wednesday night. The place was pumping!

Stopped in here a couple of weeks ago after an 8 hour drive from Auckland. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal, I had the vegetarian breakfast burrito and a soda float which was really delicious, service was quick & the atmosphere was really cool. Would recommend this place for brunch 👌🏼

My sister wanted to try out this place as it was newly opened. We got there around 6.30pm on a Wednesday and they were quite busy -like packed! We had no idea what to do. No one greeted us. No one told us what the deal what. There were also people lining up in front of us. All the staff literally just looked in our direction. No smiles or greeting. Over 20mins later one of us finally got to the counter to ask what's the deal and they said it'll be a 20-30mins wait which we waited. FINALLY got seated several minutes later. It was until we were seated, the customer service was actually really good. <br/><br/>I ordered the buffalo wings and damn it was freakin spicy - literally lost my tastebud senses lol. So don't get it if you're not good with spicy foods. But it did taste good though. Also got the banoffee shake to shake with one of my sisters. Was good but just hated how the biscuit pieces weren't small enough to pass through the straw. Kept blocking the straw 😒 either provide a bigger straw or make the biscuit pieces smaller please 🙏🏽 the fries were bloody amazing too. Nothing like a simple side of crispy fries/chips nicely seasoned. <br/><br/>Overall this place has good food and really fills you up but could improve on the customer service. Like when they're super busy, just letting customers who walk through their doors that it'll be a few mins wait Etc instead of just giving them a look and walking off.

An amazing experience for me as an Aucklander. I ordered a chicken and beef burger, and the beef was cooked amazing - not overdone, and still juicy and succulent. The chicken was great as well. Our group also had Cajun fries on the side with Aioli, which complemented it well. <br/><br/>The milkshakes are superb as well! I tried a kit kat milkshake, which was incredible. Although on the pricey side, I really recommend this to people to try.
Steven Lee
Incredibly good comfort food and amazing shakes. We had Cajun fries, chicken waffle, breakfast burrito, peanut caramel shake and a float. All excellent and very filling. I highly recommend you visit Mama Brown's.

Waffles and fried chicken... what could go wrong! <br/><br/>Love this place, while not the most classy of places it is tasty! I'm yet to find something on the menu that I don't like, but fried chicken and waffles is my ultimate fav - sometimes the cravings are to strong to resist. <br/><br/>The milkshakes boozy and non boozy are some of the best in Wellington! Nom <br/><br/>Only downside is that I'm always super full from the large meals I'm yet to try desert 😊

Been here a couple of times now, some experiences were great others not so much, I had they're southern Chicken burger and it was ok, nothing special but their waffles were amazing! Staff definitely seemed cocky but that doesn't change much. The main question is, would i go there again? The answer is yes, Happily  :D

Not pretty, but pretty tasty. <br/><br/>I have liked this place since it opened without a coffee machine years ago. They quickly corrected that error in judgement and have bee rocking out decent food since. <br/><br/>My biggest concern with this place is their consistency. Sometimes everything is fried just right and full of flavour. Others its bland and oily. <br/><br/>Luckily today was a good day. My waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The southern fried chicken was juicy and delicious. <br/><br/>My partners venison burger was a perfect medium and his fries looked so good that I had to sneak a few. I was not disappointed. <br/><br/>My friend had the breakfast burrito and it was size of my head. He said the stuffed it with so much that he kept thinking it would fall apart, it didn't and he gave it 2 thumbs up. <br/><br/>All in all a nice place to relax for brunch. Just remember to come hungry...<br/><br/>No one had room for dessert, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked like a heart attack in a dish (in a good way!). <br/><br/>I am willing to give this place another go next week. If the food quality stays the same, then this rating will be going up. Stay tuned.... 😉<br/>

Great food. Awesome seats and decor. Great service. I had chicken and waffles which was strangely awesome. I would have liked the waffles a bit crunchier though. The food looks just like the picture which is nice. The staff were kind, funny and well workers. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. Their milkshakes are so good and so creative. I had a Chocolate, penutbutter, caramel kitkat one. And the prices are reasonable.
DarshT
The place is full any time you drive past, but once you enter, the hostess attends to you straight away. The table are shared, but the food is amazing. Very good coffees as well. It's Mexican with an American/Texan twist. Desserts were also worth trying.

Love the bustling environment of this place. The staff were nice and helpful and responded to requests well. The Oreo cheesecake shake was pretty damn good apart from some salty bits. The southern fried chicken on French toast was good! Would be better if the chicken was more crispy though and maybe a side of spicy sauce instead of tomato sauce. My friends said the halloumi burger was really good but didn't fill him up and the halloumi salad was also really nice. Overall nice vibe good vibe but some things a bit overpriced

First review I've ever written in my life - for reasons."Southern fried Chicken" burger tasted like something scraped off the floor at wendys. Very bland with poor quality ingredients.chips tasted no better than the aro valley fish'n'chip.

Been here twice now. On my first visit, I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was amazing. Last night, my friend and I came here for dinner and I have decided to order their kentucky hot brown boy and their milkshake. I was a bit disappointed with the dish as it was tastless and very bland. However, the milkshake was really good, the waitstaffs were super friendly, and very fast service for a busy restaurant. Also, they have really cool airplane seats! :)

Not Impressed at all with the food. The  Food wasn't nice. What I ordered, I usually enjoy. Not at Mamma Brown. Sorry but probably won't be going there again. However, on the bright side, very friendly service.
Sara
Went here last night for a catch up with friends. We didn't have a booking and it was pretty busy but the staff were great and found us a table. Loved the Southern fried chicken and the fries were crispy and tasty. Generous portions, friend had the ribs and said they were awesome too. Bonus to see that they stock Kereru beers and have them on tap. We shared a milkshake between two for dessert - amazing but very filling! Loved the decor and aeroplane seats, staff were friendly and attentive. Will be back :)
Autumn
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good portions. Would definitely eat here again. They have 2 for 1 main meals on Wednesdays and great looking milkshakes and desserts! The fried chicken on French toast was filling. Great amount of hot chips.

Me and my partner Went here on a whim when we saw the birthday deal and so glad we did. Great atmosphere and music- favourite place we have been to atmosphere wise. He had the bbq pork ribs and he loved it, so tender and they came away from the bone so easily. I had the Nachos and they were good but nothing I would rave about. The milkshake I had however was amazing and definitely big enough for 2. A great place to stop if you love milkshakes, great music and a chill atmosphere. Pretty funky decor too.
Hala&Plum
It was a nice and cosy restraunt especially in wellingtons cold weather, the food was great and the prices were worth the dish. Me and my wife enjoyed it very much and will be dining there again in the future Plum Mairaro

My second time here, but my first time was a long time ago, so I felt it was due for a review! <br/><br/>Came in and sat ourselves, the place is spacious and quirky, especially due to their usage of airplane seats as chairs. It took a while for us to get served and we had to walk up to the counter to get the waitresses' attention. However, the service for the rest of the night was fabulous. <br/><br/>We ordered a burger with beef patty and their famous Southern fried chicken, an Oreo dirty milkshake with kahlua and baileys, a mojito, and a warm chocolate brownie. <br/><br/>The fried chicken was amazing--tender and crispy in all the right places, and the beef patty was also surprisingly good. It was surprisingly filling for what looked like a small portion. <br/><br/>The milkshake was really good too, creamy and decadent all at the same time. The mojito was a tad disappointing because there was hardly any taste of alcohol. <br/><br/>Last but definitely not least, the warm brownie was super divine. It came with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and chocolate syrup, and it was a feast for the eyes and palette. For some, it might be overly sweet but if you have a sweet tooth then this will be perfect for you. <br/><br/>Showstopper: Food checked all the boxes: satisfying, great to look at, even greater to eat. <br/><br/>Overall grade: A-
Sarah Alberino
Have come here plenty of times for work lunches and the sliders are always yummy. They make awesome milkshakes here as well, I always get the classic chocolate one but it is amazing ! The service is great and on time - I have no fault!

$26 for the fish and chips. We felt totally ripped off because the food is far below average. We are one of those people who got tricked by their Facebook marketing campaign. Please don't waste your money here. This place is gonna out of business in no time. No wonder why it's so empty on a Friday night
Jenjaroo
The best thing about this place was the milkshake and maybe we should have stuck to that. <br/>We ordered two burgers, one that managed to meet the mark and one that really didn't. You'd have thought a halloumi burger would have majority halloumi but nope. The amount was miniscule and could barely be tasted over the amount of mushroom and salad. Fries had to be ordered separately.<br/>Next time I might stick to trying the sweet stuff

Im sorry Mama Brown I wish I could give a 5 out of 5 but some things just miss the mark for me flavor wise. The atmosphere is a young vibrant looking cafe. The food I found to be pretty good. I had the fried chicken in the waffles. It just tasted like something was missing. The milkshakes are totally yum though
Trish
Omg, what an awesome find. Arrived in Wellington last night. Arrived here for breakfast, in a hurry and they were brilliant. Awesome waffles and Paul loved his breakfast burrito. Off we went but came back for lunch. The ribs were mouthwatering and dirty milkshakes left you wanting more. Can't go back tonight, that would be just sad. Highly recommend this to anyone new to Wellington.<br/>

The search for the ultimate hungover brunch continues. Mama Browns definitely impressed me. I got a breakfast burrito and some Cajun fries. THE FRIES WERE EXCELLENT they were just the way I like them and crinkle cut as well. The burrito was really big and sort of nice but halfway through I realised I should've got one of those thick waffles with the whipped cream. Overall I'm pretty impressed but haven't found perfection yet

I went here this morning for brunch. Lovely service and the kit Kat milkshake was delicious however everything else was very under whelming. There wasn't much of a selection on the menu and the food that we did get was disappointing. Probably won't be returning here and wouldn't recommend it to my friends.
James Cole
Great meal from here, plus very good coffee. Went for breakfast and had a good selection from the menu. Service was prompt and friendly, meal was generously sized and good value. Different decor, some of the seats are from airplanes. Not that comfortable but good for a change.
Siobhan
We'd been wanting to try MB's for a wee while and had the chance tonight. Staff were lovely but everything else was underwhelming. I tried the chicken and waffles (how could I resist after seeing this eaten on movies?!); alas, it was just a bizarre, saccharine dish which I will not bother with again. The rest of the table went for the ribs and the nachos and weren't that impressed either. Shakes are good though.<br/><br/>In short: reminds me of Sweet Mother's Kitchen but just not able to pull it off like they do.

Came here with a friend on a Thursday night while visiting Wellington.  One thing I noticed straight away is the deco especially the airline seating which is creative (wish I can buckle up and being served from airplane trays).  He ordered the Brown Boy and I ordered the Ribs, both with Peanut Butter Milkshakes.  Have to say, my portion of the ribs does out size the Brown Boy by a margin.  Meat was soft and flavorful, but I had better ribs elsewhere.  The milkshakes was a highlight of the dining experience and I can see how addictive it can be.  Would recommend the place as it is something unique and overall I enjoyed my dining experience there and accompanied by friendly staff.
Shiny H Appy
Came here because 10 year old was craving waffles, and I just knew they would have good sized ones. Ordered extra bacon and southern friend chicken sides on top of the waflles. Also had southern fried chicken tacos, choc peanut butter milkshakes, good for the occasional treat for kids (and me!)
Francine Jones
Went here with the birthday free main and drink. I ordered the big brown boy I think it's called and a chocolate brownie milkshake. The milkshake was really good with actual pieces of brownie in it! I think I drank it too fast as I felt a big sick. The food was ok, the chips definitely weren't "mama's hand cut fries" more like typical frozen kind. Not much variety in menu either but it was nice.
Adaire Ward
Funky decor, quick and friendly service. Food is exceptionally decadent. Ribs are absolutely to die for- cooked to perfection, meat just falling off the bones, and there's plenty of it too. Wings could be better, not the most flavorful (personally I like everything drowning in either spices or sauce). Fries and shakes were also exceptional- fries were crunchy and hot, shakes were perfectly flavoured. Definitely check it out when you're keen for a good 2 for 1 joint on Wednesday.

Walking past this morning it was hard to ignore airplane seats, Chinese lanterns and old movie posters, all decorating an American diner style tv set for "happy Days" - sans Fonz.<br/><br/>There ain't no bagels here anymore honey - cos this is someone weird's idea of what the south is like. Quite why I have no idea. But this morning I felt for the first time that I wasn't really part of the intended demographic. Grunge yes but mama brown no. <br/>Southern fried chicken and waffles, Po boys, and a whole section devoted to fries, as well as their specialty - milkshakes. Essentially everything that appeals to adolescents who are impossible to cook for at home.<br/>Feeling our age we simply had a hot chocolate and a flat white. Both were actually good. The cups were noticeably different from the run of the mill Acme. The hot chocolate wasn't ordinary but had an interesting taste - no marshmallows however!!!!!<br/>The coffee's flavour was good too - it tasted like coffee - but texturally it was on the bubbly side, in keeping with the observation that the barista (who was very nice) didn't remember what the coffee was. <br/>As we drank we watched a group of 20 somethings devour massive plates of food in seconds and a middle aged couple tentatively sussing out the possibility of a soy latte, but declining to stay, knowing that they too were not in the right demographic.<br/><br/>

I prefer my drinks not milky and with alcohol so I didn't try what they are the most famous for: their milkshakes, but they did have an extended selection. Instead I went for an orange juice and some delicious waffles with maple syrup and I topped it up with vanilla ice cream and bacon. The waffles were tasty and a bit crunchy but not too much so perfect combination. However, paying an extra for bacon and only having one slice of it ripped in two to make you think it's more is sneaky. If I ask for an extra bacon i expect to have an extra bacon. The place is well located close to both markets and on Wakefield and is quite chill (they have airplanes seats, how cool is that?!).<br/>I will go back for a burger some day !

This place is fantastic! The food was Devine. Best milkshakes ever - at $8 it is soooo worth it. I had the caramel, peanut and it honestly tasted like I was drinking a snickers bar! It was soo good. I ordered the famous chicken and waffles and - ohh! Its like dessert and dinner at the same time. It was fairly priced too. My hubby ordered Mama's plate for Papa @$32 and that had a bit of everything. He loved it. The atmosphere is very relaxing and inviting. I loved the airplane seats, my daughter had so much fun with the fancy dress box and she ate her whole meal, which rarely happens with her, as she is quite fussy. We left that place with our belly full and 100% satisfied with the amazing customer service. Because we were a large group, I asked for a couple of jugs of juice and coke, but was told they sell drinks individually. Upon leaving the owner had said he may take on the idea of having jugs for large groups as he had never been asked before, so that was a bonus! I am looking forward to going back there again.

When I first looked at the menu I thought "what weird combinations" lol but I was willing to try anything. I had the French Toast with bacon and chicken and salad and chips. It was nice but the flavors all together wasn't that good. The chips I loved not so much the salad. Chicken was cooked good but lacked more flavor and the French toast made the plate. For dessert I had the Sunday and I was bit disappointed. When I got to the bottom of the jar had this weird taste to it I'm not sure if it was the oreos or to much coco but it didn't taste nice. I did however taste their milkshake and it was delicious. Overall nice casual place to eat.
FOOD Wars
Well i've be er eaten this kind of food before and i considered it a bit weird. I.e chicken and waffles?? Omg the shakes are to die for....real fruit i guess. Yummo!! The slaw needs dressing! Overall, good proportions, weird mix of flavours. Chips were so 'sad' looking so that was dissapointing. Im glad i went here for the experience but don't think ill go again as the food is just not for my taste buds. I had the Hot Brown Boy. Cute touch that the ribs vome with an apron

VENUE (0.5 / 1)<br/>The venue isnt too bad, quite cosy. Myself and my partner sat on what seemed like ex-commercial plane seats. I enjoyed the novelty of it. Not really much to explain as it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. What you expect from a modern diner<br/><br/>SERVICE (1 / 1)<br/>Probably the best thing about this place. We had excellent service where they actually seemed interested in you and just genuinely nice, the type of people that should be on hospitality. Big thumbs up here. <br/><br/>FOOD (3 / 3) <br/>I have tried their big papa burger and the choc brownie milk shake. I really enjoyed the burger - bread was fresh, chicken nicely fried, beef cooked well. I would have liked more cheese and slightly more aoli but otherwise enjoyable. Milkshake nice and chocolatey with actual choc brownies in the mix. Note they are not the quickest dishing out food (when I have been there, could be just bad luck) but didn't really bother me.<br/><br/>OVERALL<br/>Give it a go, not a huge extensive menu but great choices and good generous meals.<br/><br/>*score given in reference to target market*
Liana Stockwell
The atmosphere and ambiance were great however in terms of food I was left disappointed. I got a bacon and egg taco which was tasteless and minuscule for the price that was paid. The other food was ok. When rating my review I also took into consideration that we were waiting for our food for about an hour and also had to retrieve our own cutlery. On the whole I properly would not return.
Terri Jaggard
The staff were very friendly and polite. The food was enjoyable, but average - meals lacked flavour. The concept of the menu was great but the food itself needs extra attention.
Hubert Cheng
Good weekend brunch<br/>Taco and sliders and small sides.<br/>A beer on a sunny day. Even early evening snacks and drinks is a pleasure<br/>love the aeroplane seats.
Apple Chan
Went there as a group of four. We love the atmosphere and the plane seats! I loved my brownies, my friend enjoyed her sundae (if you are a sweet tooth you are going to enjoy this). Tasted my friend's fries but not into it (i am fussy and the skin on puts me off) but my friend finished hers without any complaint so it must just have been me. Overall, we enjoyed our time there. The staff was nice too.
Vaughan
A nice atmosphere, but a let down down on food taste and portions. $20 for three tacos is reasonable if they're full of flavour and filling. Wouldn't go back.

Food was great, but in the end the service was a real let down. We came in on Friday night, and it wasn't very busy at the time. The staff were friendly and we got our drinks and food ordered. The food arrived, which was the Southern Fried Chicken burger, fries and the Fish Salad. Both meals tasted great, but the first thing I noticed was that noone came back to check if the food was alright. Not a big deal, and the food was fine so it didn't concern me at the time. However, we finished eating and decided we would have another drink and order a dessert. Except noone came to clear our plates or talk to us. We waited around 20 minutes with blatantly empty plates on our table and nothing happened. One of the staff was semi busy part of the time, but it would have been very easy for either of the staff members to swing by our table to atleast grab the plates. I gave up waiting in the end, so my partner paid the bill and we left. We don't like to make a fuss, and we weren't even asked upon paying how our meals were. If they had asked we would have mentioned it. We were too frustrated to make a deal out of it at the time as we just wanted to leave. We do plan on coming back as we really enjoyed the food, so hopefully the service will improve!
Sala Galumalemana
Service was crap. We didn't realize when we ordered that everyone else was still waiting on theirs. We were hoping the food would make up for the poor service but it didn't, it was terrible. The bacon was burnt to a crisp, not cooked til crispy but burnt. Bread was a poor excuse for sour dough and one meal had its bacon missing though was quickly rectified. The pancakes I kept hearing about tasted wrong like something was mixed in it so when I went to pay for the meal I checked out its open kitchen and saw they cooked everything on the same cooker that's why everything tasted funky. Basically our food was cooked in fats and oils from other food and that's so wrong on many levels. We won't be going back and they need new chefs that can cook. Only positive thing I can say is there coffees were good but they need bigger cups to be on par with other restaurants and cafes. It seemed overpriced for such a small cup.

Mama Brown is a casual venue with an American style menu. I chose the Kentucky Hot Brown Boy which was a unique dish – chicken with other elements on a savoury French toast. I really liked it and it made for a lovely lightish lunch.
Lennie L
Pops of colour, chalkboards, fairy lights and cheery staff give Mama Brown a friendly, fun vibe that is cool and casual. While we were there, on a Friday from brunch to lunch time, there were couples, friends and babies- and the venue and vibe catered to all. The staff do their jobs well, giving just enough attention that you're not neglected but not swaddled. <br/><br/>We were in for brunch, and ordered the big breakfast, BLT and pancakes. The big breakfast had the works and for me, it was done right- bacon was crispy, poached eggs had firm whites and runny yolks, tomato wasn't too mushy and the giant portobello mushroom was a plus! A few elements were under seasoned- but that's a minor issue, and what the salt and pepper is for. The BLT came out in club form, the bacon was generous and my brunch buddy demolished it- so I guess we can take that as a good sign! A special mention to the garlic aioli which tied it all together.<br/><br/>But, there's a simple reason why I keep coming back for brunch... The pancakes! Every now and again, and probably more often than not, I get that craving for light and fluffy, but still thick, substantial pancakes and Mama Brown hits the spot. Dusted with icing sugar and with a little jug of maple syrup on the side; it's simple and simply delicious.<br/><br/>Overall, Mama Brown is a no-fuss place with a focus on good food and good service. Prices are very fair and you are sure to leave full and happy.
Georgia Nuku Taingahue
Service wasn't great, not enough menus brought to the table, entree took 40 minutes to come out, main took another 45 minutes to an hour to come out and even then the last main came 20 minutes after everyone else had been given theirs. <br/>But they did give our Birthday boy a brownie on the house and they did acknowledge their flaws and took $20 off the bill. Feel sorry for them, they seem under staffed and suffering. The owner was really apologetic and it made it the experience a little less painful.
JaimeC
Buffalo wingssssss!!!<br/><br/>They aren't for the faint-hearted. I was sweating profusely as I happily took bite after bite.<br/><br/>The Cajun chips were a surprise!!! My kids loved them!<br/><br/>It's value for your money.<br/><br/>The service though... It took awhile for our waitress to take our order. It came to a point that we wondered whether we should go to the front to order.
Chomp
Went for lunch with a friend, ordered the po boy - pork. Well for 15 what a feed, done was good and hearty and plenty of it even got chips and a salad great value. <br/>However my friend who had the sliders was disappointed with their quantity, he got 2 for 12 and let's just say my $15 plate had about 3 times the food
Aimee R
Love this place! Fantastic service, everything was fairly quick. Great drinks, the mains were great, perfect sizes, and the desserts were too. Only downside was that the Cajun fries were overly-flavoured. Nice location and the place has a friendly atmosphere. Would definitely come back :)

I went to Mama Brown recently for a friend's birthday party. Initially, I had been disappointed, as we were meant to be going to another favourite restaurant of mine and sadly that restaurant was booked out. I hadn't considered going to Mama Brown before - it's on Wakefield Street, a little bit away from the "main drag" for restaurants in Wellington. However, I can now say that Mama Brown is well worth the 100 metre or so amble down from Courtney Place and there was absolutely no reason to be disappointed! <br/><br/>Mama Brown has made some interesting decor choices- curiously, some of the seats look like they have been taken from an aeroplane and have been set up as booths. I guess it's one way to get cheap seats!<br/><br/>We were with a large group and were placed in the middle of the room. I ordered the Corona Frozen Margarita and the Fried Chicken on Rice Waffles. I felt a little bit weird about the Corona Frozen Margarita, but I can honestly say that it was delicious and so refreshing! A truly great combo. The Frozen Margarita comes with the Corona bottle tipped upside down into the drink and you can therefore control how much Corona goes into the mix. I would say that it's almost like a Mexican shandy - delicious! Don't go past it. The Fried Chicken Waffles reminded me of a similar dish served at another Wellington "Tex Mex" institution. They were also delicious - you can't really go wrong with a combination of deep fried deliciousness and maple syrup. <br/><br/>The service was good and in spite of us being a large group, our meals were served at roughly the same time and were all piping hot. <br/><br/>I would definitely return to Mama Brown and recommend it to others!

Had a big problem with ventilation - the whole place periodically filled with smoke, and then they had to open doors and let in the freezing air - but the food was mostly good.<br/><br/>I had fish and prawn tacos which were nice. People I was with had the nachos (which were drowning in cheese and not that great), and the steak on chips (okay). The nicest thing we had was a salad to share that wasn't even on the menu!
Janine Last
Dinner at Mama Brown on Friday night was great - I had the pulled pork tortilla, very tasty, lovely crispy base and enough to get my husband to help out with when he'd finished his Southern chicken. The restaurant is light and bright and funky with its colourful airline seats. Plenty of room between tables so you don't feel you're sharing your dinner with everyone around you. The staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. First visit and out-of-town diners, we were very impressed, to the extent of returning the next day for lunch. This time I had a chicken slider and steak tostada, while he chose the pulled pork baguette which came with slaw and the crispiest fries we've had in a long time. More than enough food and great value. Our new favourite restaurant in Wellington.

Calling in for brunch on our return trip to Palmerston North the location was very well placed with adequate on-street parking. With an immediate greeting and sitting upon our arrival, and the friendly and courteous service, this was certainly a great start to the day.<br/><br/>Food &amp; Drink: <br/>1) Kentucky Hot Brown Boy – Sliced chicken breast topped with cheese, crispy bacon &amp; pico de gallo on savoury french toast - $15.00)—This was a very flavour-filled dish. The flavours and the ratio of the fillings were very well thought out and the french toast was toasted to perfection. The pico ge gallo (aka salsa fresca) was very tasty, but the quantity could have been slightly increased to match the rest of the dish.<br/>2) Eggs on Toast (Two eggs on toast - your choice of scrambled, fried or poached on sourdough - $9.00 - I had scrambled) —This was basically as expected with no surprises. The parsley was fresh, crisp, cooked perfectly though.<br/>The speed of the delivery after ordering was certainly ‘above average’, which may explain the above issues, but overall, the food was ‘satisfying’. Rating: 6/10<br/><br/>Presentation:<br/>The presentation was the only downside. It certainly had a ‘rustic charm’, but seemed a little ‘thrown together’ on the plate. Having the knob of butter placed to one side made it a little messy when trying to butter the toast under the eggs. Rating: 4/10<br/><br/>Price:<br/>It is unfortunate that the price wasn't totally reflected in the meal, but had it have been served at a higher standard and with a little more care, this price would have been worth paying. Rating: 7/10<br/><br/>Service:<br/>The service was excellent. We were served and seated immediately and menus were brought over to us, with a bottle of water, by a very attentive waitress. Rating 9/10<br/><br/>Environment:<br/>The location, although on a busy corner, was very spacious and had a good indoor-outdoor flow. It was quite different sitting in airplane seats, some complete with belts, but as they are screwed to the floor it doesn't allow ‘pulling your seat in’. Still, this was a great place with a great atmosphere. Rating 8/10<br/><br/>Overall: Although the salad portion was a little on the small side, this was a very filling and satisfying brunch. Would revisit again.<br/><br/>Overall Rating: 6.8/10 – 3.4 Stars

The manager/owner was really nice, our waiter was friendly and I liked the fries. That's the only reason I gave two stars.<br/>A few friends and I dined last Friday night with the deal vouchers. I'm glad we had the vouchers because it was not worth the price tag.<br/><br/>Ribs - Nice but too much sauce<br/>Fries - Crispy and yum<br/>Chocolate Brownie thick shake - The Brownie in it tasted like stale bread. Yuck.<br/>Taco (pulled pork and Fish) - Pork chunks more like. not nice.<br/>Marinated chicken - had some kind of salsa that tasted really off.<br/>Spicy chicken wings - RAW!! I asked for a new plate to go. I wasn't given the sides that come with the dish. <br/><br/>We did have a good laugh about how terrible everything was so I can't say I didn't have a good time? <br/>I would never go to this restaurant again even with a voucher.

I visited Mama Brown on a Wed night with 3 of my friends and had a great time. We only had an hour to eat before a show so we informed them of that - we were told 'not a problem' and it certainly wasn't. <br/><br/>The food came fairly quickly after we ordered and was hot and cooked very well. We had the prawns to start and the flavour was great - a very different spicy take on a classic. I can recommend the BBQ pork ribs and I rate them as the tenderest that I have ever had - the meat fell off the bone and were succulent and tasty! A friend of mine had the southern fried buttermilk chicken - there was nothing left on the plate after he had finished. <br/><br/>The restaurant is a casual fun affair and if you like the southern/mexican/texmex style of food then get involved with this place - I will most certainly be back

Was sitting in Lower Hutt reading the reviews and looking at the menu and couldn't wait. So myself and 3 workmates made the trip in. We were not dissapointed. I had the pulled pork slider, the chicken slider, and the spicy fish taco. Wow, this was just what I had been looking for. Fresh ingredients with a good hit of flavour. Workmates had the po-boys and they were raving about them as well. Service was fast and friendly. Looking forward to going back to try the dinner menu!

I LOVE this place. My partner and I have been here half a dozen times since it opened, and it has been consistently good food for good value. <br/><br/>Both of the fish tacos are amazing, as is the vegetable one. I love the mix and match ability of the slider/taco menu, it gives the place a real tapas feel. And the addition of a liquor license is pretty awesome too. <br/><br/>Nice light atmosphere. I reckon a bit of art work on the walls and it would be a rocking local bar/cafe/great food hangout.

Went here for brunch and we both ordered poached eggs-the eggs were over cooked and tasted like vinegar. The coffee wasn't great either. Wouldn't recommend.

Went in for breakfast and coffee, as it wasn't too busy. The coffee was excellent, with a complimentary biscotti balanced on the mug. I even ordered another, unusual for me. The poached eggs which I ordered soft, were a little hard, but no matter. On crusty toast with a triangle of real butter all was in order. At least it wasn't pre-wrapped butter cubes! My pet hate. Looking at others' meals I will return to try the tacos. Think it is a good addition to the eat scene in Wellington. Lovely sitting in the sun filled room. Attentive service and they are making an effort. The cafe was full when I left so word is spreading.

Good service, however found that the meals especially the kids pancake was overpriced, $8 for one pancake was not great. My husband order a single slider and fries and although tasty was very overpriced at $10 for a single slider and a few fries. Also wasn't expecting the extra tax charge on the bill at the end of the meal. Biscotti on the coffee was a nice touch but we wouldn't return based on the lack of value for money.

Totally awesome menu with a tasty range of breakfasts and lunches with a Western and Mexican influence. Food, service and prices all excellent! My new favourite diner in Wellington :)

This place is great! My partner and I have visited a few times since they opened, and my only complaint would be that the portions are huge but the food is so good that I can't help but finish my plate. The milkshakes are a nice novelty, too.

Had the beef stew/soup and beef taco on Sunday.<br/><br/>Both were delicious! Especially the beef taco with the lime and the pineapple salsa. Definitely would get another one (maybe 3) of those next time.<br/><br/>Attentive service, average toilets.

GREAT milkshakes!! :D <br/><br/>Small portions for food prices, however.

Had the Beef stew. AMAZING! Will def be back for the bowl of the day, came with some chunky toast bread. This was a great winter warmer. Going back again for bowl of the day and maybe a Taco. 5 star YUM.

The absolute best thing about Mama Brown's is their $6 sliders and tacos which allow you to mix and match a variety of options to build your own meal.<br/><br/>We ordered the prawn taco, spicy fish taco, beef slider and chicken slider as well as the open chicken/bacon/mozzarella sandwich and a serving of fries. <br/><br/>All were absolutely delicious. The prawn taco was a standout, filled with juicy well-seasoned prawns and the triple cooked fries were incredible.<br/><br/>Service was attentive but not overbearing.<br/><br/>Only slight let down was the "fresh" orange juice wasn't (Keri from a bottle) but it was a minor blip. We're already planning our next visit to work through the rest of the menu.

The service was very slow and inattentive. I had the spicy fish taco and it was truly awful, the fish was slimy and undercooked and the seasoning on it was overpowering. The fries were far too oily and mushy- we noticed several half finished bowls of fries on the tables as we left. <br/><br/>The beef taco was very nice though and the milkshakes are fun.

Didn't know what to expect from the place but the staff were amiable and friendly, my food delivered promptly and coffee delivered with a totally yummy hokey pokey biscotti. I got the vegetarian tacos and they were wonderful, having just toured Southern America last year, these were the most rustic and authentic thing I've had in Wellington since returning. Will definitely return, would love to see this cafe develop the whole 'candy' theme they already are on the border of having with their multi-coloured decor!
