Review Fisherman's Plate - Wellington

Dan Hope
One of the best lunch options in Wellington. $18 for an outstanding beef pho - rich, hot and filling. Service is excellent, would highly recommend

Came because of reviews on the Pho and I had to say the Lamb Pho went down my belly quick! Although Lamp portions were small. Service is very Asian. Order at counter by the menu number as shown on the wall and the waiter brings the food over when ready. Easy. Atmosphere is old fashion Asian restaurant feel. Basic painted walls with tables and chairs. I felt right at home. Don't expect extravance in decor but do so in its food.

The foods were surpringly good. Deep and rich flavours of the soup and very kind and friendly service. They said they don't use MSG in the soup. I think it is true because we were not thirsty at all. We will definitely go back.

Only had one meal there so far but the food was absolutely delicious. Have spent time in Vietnam, and it really felt the same, aside from the understandable slight reduction in quality of the fresh herbs. (It's unreasonable to expect to have the same access to herbs in NZ) Keen to go back.
Zachary Collier
Pho Tai was great. Classical Vietnamese food without any weird parts. Just what you need, nothing you don't. Relatively well priced.

Excellent Vietnamese cuisine. The soup is rich and pho smooth. Spring roll is crispy and roast meat is tender. Reasonably large serving and reasonable prices. S

easily the best chippy & Vietnamese in CBD. unassuming af but mean kai, lovely kaimahi w primo service, and an easy welcoming vibe. Prices are also pretty great. Forgot to take photos of the food bc I just dug right in!
Emily
Great Vietnamese rice rolls. Tasty on their own, even better with the satay sauce! Reasonable/expectable price. Service was quick even when the place was nearly fully seated. Good range of menu, includes common Vietnamese favourites! Staff are friendly and lovely.

Satay tofu and vegetables is superb. Best tofu takeaway dish I can think of in Wellington. The Pad Thai is also great. Haven’t tried the fish and chips but they look good.
Tobias Skjelvik
The food was good, but portions were a bit too large. They also only had a few items of their menu available. Apart from that the staff was friendly and the food was good. Would recommend if you want regular fish and chips.
Brandy Rawiri
best pho so far in welly
Nicole Wong
The food was amazing! Soup was super flavourful and the portion size is HUGE. Value for money but also tastes great!
Matthew Yang
Best pho I've had in NZ. Come to Akl so Hansan can shut down, they need to learn that you can have European servers but still have excellent Vietnamese. Only thing was girl got our order half wrong and there was a wait cause probs low on back of house... Worth the wait<br/>
Angel Wong
The spicy beef noodle soup is what I usually order, it’s very tasty with nice flavor and the portions are good for the price. Quite fast service too!

I was slightly surprised to see the place as it looked like an ordinary fish and chips shop that also sells Vietnamese food.<br/><br/>BUT... the ambience does not make the food delicious because it was, hands down, one of the best Vietnamese feeds I have had. The fish sauce was just exquisite and works very well with whatever meat or veges you chuck in with it. The only criticism I would give is the meat to carbohydrate ratio. So much noodles or rice compared to the meat. It tends to happen with Vietnamese cuisine. As a satisfied customer, I would definitely bring my family here next time.<br/><br/>P.S. A little music wouldn’t hurt. ^^
SpoonMe
My Vietnamese friend recommended me this place and was pretty good. <br/>It looks like a crappy takeaway shop but don’t be fooled! It’s really tasty and I don’t know what authentic Vietnamese food tastes like but I enjoyed my dish. <br/>I ordered the pork on vermicelli w a spring roll. <br/>The spring roll was so so good and I’m a big fan of the sauce that comes with these dishes and the one here was a yes from me! <br/>

A bowl of deliciousness! The broth of their pho taste amazing. Very authentic vietnamese pho from this hidden and simple shop. <br/>Tried the fish and chips as well but dissapointed with the quality : chips that left cold then being fried again when we ordered so $5 price tag didnt deliver the standard. <br/>We will definitely come back for the pho!
PC Tong
The chef recycle leftover salad from the other customers onto my pancake. :-(. Pho is full of msg. I was so thirsty after I ate the noodle soup.

I just couldnt understand how this place has a high rating. Very rude lady at the cashier, didnt even give Mayonnaise when we asked, she just shook her head and put the Mayonnaise back on the fridge, and selling tomato sauce for $2.5, what a rip off. The food is not good either, ordered fish and chips and the chips were soggy. Will never come back.
Andrean
Oh yeah... That broth is just yum... One of the best Vietnamese beef pho that I ever have.<br/>We loved it and we will definitely come back if we visit Wellington again.

Very nice dishes here<br/>We had the prawn and pork omelette, combination fried noodle and chicken on rice<br/>The food was beautiful and very tasty<br/>Very friendly staff here as well

I love this place so much, that every time I come to Wellington, it is obligatory to make a stop here and squeeze in a bowl of Pho.<br/><br/>Bit of an unsuspecting entry in my books really, but stumbled upon this place by accident and it seemed to be selling Fish and Chips as it's mainstay but secretly makes the best bowl of Pho I have had in New Zealand.<br/><br/>The portions are JUST right, soup is mind blowing to the point where I have actually finished drinking it all with the noodles, and the beef (I always get the raw beef Pho) is so tender and fresh.<br/><br/>This combination is just absolutely magical, especially on a cold (or windy, or both) day in Welly, it's the perfect place to drop in for a quick bite in between meals or to start (or finish) a long day.<br/><br/>Highly recommended, they also make amazing fried spring rolls, and every other choice of Pho is good on their menu, I just really like the raw beef one.
FoodiePhysician
Small vietnamese fish and chips and vietnamese noodle restaurant.<br/><br/>Good portions and great taste.<br/><br/>Slightly pricey for a basic noodle soup but definitely one to try out.<br/><br/>3 Yums

Was in Wellington for 3 days and checked Zomato for a good place to eat. Absolutely thankful to find this little takeaway/dine-in place in town as they have the best Pho I've ever tasted!! They also offer fish and chips and other wok dishes. Had the spring rolls for entree which is also very tasty. My only wish is that hopefully they open in Auckland coz I will definitely be back all the time ☺

Delicious Pho and the taste is really closed to<br/>Pho that you have in Viet Nam. I’ve tried so many places around Wellington central and their Pho is the best. Clear and beefy taste broth.<br/><br/>Highly recommended for a hangover meal or for a cold rainy night

4.5/5 Taste<br/>4.5/5 Display <br/>4.5/5 Quantity <br/>4/5 Customer Service<br/><br/>Probably best Pho is New Zealand<br/><br/>Walked there for some fish and chips and they happened to have Vietnamese Noodle soups.<br/>Tried their beef noodle soup fell in love and had to go there every time I visit Wellington.<br/>Their chips is served with Vinegar which was pretty rare and I do enjoy salt and vinegar chips.<br/>
Whitepanda89
This has a strange layout as it is a takeaway fish and chips shop but has enough room for 20ish seats to dine in. <br/><br/>The beef pho was one of the best I've had and you can't beat the price at $14. The beef was tender and soft, broth wasn't too salty or overpowering. The chicken noodle soup my friend had also smelt equally amazing.<br/><br/>My other friend ordered the fish and chips. She said that the fish was amazing but the chips were a bit overdone and too crispy.
Neat Eats
Beautiful takeaway fish and chips, not greasy and delicious flavour. I just had a battered fish but the crumbed looked yummy. Need to try the pho and everything else too by the reviews.

I find myself coming back to this place a lot. Doesnt hurt that its less than five minutes away from where I live...but the fact that they serve a kick-ass bowl of rare beef pho, using no MSG and offer it at a reasonable price easily makes it a constant option amongst my dining choices.

The food was amazing, fulfilling and worth the price. Its a little place pf the side street not too noticeable but 100% my favorite place to eat Vietnamese cuisine in Wellington!
Amit Tripuraneni
One of the best bowls of Pho I've had since my Vietnam visit few years back. Great value for money and super friendly staff combined with quick service makes it a must visit.
Jason Berryman
The best won ton soup in Wellington. Fresh and tasty. A fast food takeaway with seating and basic decor. Very fast and quick service. A popular vietnamese restaurant centrally located.

Who would'd of though a fish n chips place will actually produce such authentic Vietnamese meals!<br/><br/>I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup. Was a bit disappointed when I saw the soup wasn't served in one of those metal bowls showed on photos. But that disappointment soon replaced by excitement.<br/><br/>I had in front of me a bowl of Hue!! The soup was delicious and buzzing with flavours. The sliced beef, pork and fishcakes all tAsted so familiar...Hue! Took me straight back to the sleeping ancient town of Vietnam! <br/><br/>The most important thing is...The herbs!!!!! All the essential herbs for Vietnamese soup are all there----fresh!!! It's very hard to come by in NZ where all the main herbs are provided!!<br/><br/>Would definitely come back here next time when l visit Wellington.
Christian
The best pho in town- in my opinion! The soup is light yet tasty and the raw beef is really fresh. The provided herb adds extra dimensions to the dish. Very reasonably priced. The place does get busy and definitely worth to give it try.
Brent
This is the bar others aspire to - and none have got there yet. Pho. Better than any I have tried in Wellington or Auckland. Don't be deceived by its "takeaway" appearance.
M
I'm usually pretty okay with pho in general but I loved the tender beef, and veggies, sauce and chilli sides. The broth was pretty decent too. I'd say it is pretty worth it when craving a filling noodle soup dish. I haven't tried other dishes though, so probably would return again to try.
Jimon007
A proper place to have PHo in Wellington. I went there when the place had a previous owner. This place is licensed for take away so there is no toilet. Menus are quite decent and at a good price. Love its rare beef noodle soup. It doesn't use Msg and must be from bone soup. Highly recommended <br/>
Toni
Been here twice now and not disappointed. Rare beef pho and lemongrass, ginger lamb and noodles. Both were beautifully tasty and filling. Love being able to personalise the flavour with lemon, mint, sprouts etc

Never tried their fish n chips -- but I only come here for the Vietnamese food. It's the best in town. Authentic and so delicious! Rare beef pho is a winner!
Lubbly Jubbly
This is your quintessential "fish and chips" place but in the CBD. It generally has all the usual suspects that you would expect. <br/><br/>I had the hamburger, which was OK, about what you'd expect from this type of place. <br/>
Michelle Ma Belle
We were overjoyed to find the Lord of the Ring's actor Viggo's favourite restaurant.<br/><br/>The seafood broth was very delicious and refreshing, came with lots of fresh vegetables too. The pad Thai is less sweet than traditional Thai pad thai, and more on the sour side, which some people might prefer :) Really good with their hot sauce. Their satay stir fry was nice too, cooked with coconut milk, it resembles red curry. <br/><br/>Great place for a quick lunch/dinner, or takeouts :)
Kate Hirschman
The best pho in town can be found here nestled away on Bond street. Quick service, and lots to choose from. Give their rice paper rolls a try too!
Foooodie Explorer
A friend of mine recommended this place so I've decided to try it today. I ordered the rare beef noodle soup and it was the best pho I've had. Also, the service was really good (friendly staff and fast) and they have huge serving size. Highly recommended!

A place I visit at least once a week, food is authentic and has some dishes you can't find elsewhere. On this lunch visit I ordered the Cha Que (Vietnamese peek and chicken ham) for entrée and the Banh Cuon ( pork and shiitake mushroom steamed rice pancakes). Both dishes were tasty, authentic and they even serve it with fresh chilli's. Also highly recommend their rare beef noodle soup (Pho Bo Tai) and spicy beef soup (Bun Bo Hue). One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Wellington.

We had a lovely lunch at this place on 27 May 16. The place is a small and unpretentious restaurant and do not have too many tables. The food was good and the quantity and quality excellent and can be considered value for money. Highly recommended.
Ivy
I have been here before. I love the food beef patthai and spicy beef soup .It was kind of delicious. I will come back again and taste other food.😋👍🏻

A colleague recommended here for lunch. I checked reviews and they were great. Plus they get a 4.2. Wow! I was pretty excited about it. I wasn't sure what to order but settled on the chicken pad Thai. To go!<br/><br/>Took 10 mins. Large portion... and it was awful. It was very stodgy and congealed in places. Lacked flavour. It was just a sloppy mass of noodles. I gave up on it but it left me feeling off all day. It was $13.50 so I expected much better.<br/><br/>I was so disappointed. Really!<br/><br/>Given the reviews I can only presume this was an off day. Their Pho gets great reviews. I would actually like to go back and try it. But on this occasion... Fail!

Been here a couple of times for the rare beef pho... its good. Very nice compared to the others on this side of town. Good depth of flavour and good fresh sides of beans, coriander and sauces. Would happily return.
Julian Light
Amazing. Best rare beef pho in town - pad thai is pretty good too. Good prices too. Quick and easy. Consistently good. Place isn't flash but everything else is top marks.

Best PHO I've ever tasted in New Zealand ❤️ I'm a stickler when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine because of my upbringing. Most Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in Auckland are Vietnamese fusion, or if not, they all adjust the taste of their food to the palates of Kiwis. So when one of my friend told me about Fisherman's Plate and their authenticity, I had to check it out. During the time I've spent in Wellington, I ate here every day because they brought me a taste so close to home ❤️ <br/><br/>The place is just tiny normal-looking store, but packed with good flavour and smelled great. I ordered my favourite Rare beef Pho, and when it came out I was in awe. The colour and the aroma was amazing. It came with a side plate of bean sprouts, lettuce and lemon. As a Vietnamese northerner, I don't have bean sprouts, onion and hoisin sauce with my Pho. The broth was clear and tasted incredible as it should be. I really took my time enjoying it. <br/><br/>If you are in Wellington and crave authentic Vietnamese food, please visit this place and order their Pho. A must-have 👍🏼 Can't wait to go back again on my next holiday.<br/><br/>PS: The photo was taken by my friend who visited Fisherman's plate after my recommendation. He loved their rare beef Pho too 😊

I'm back for my favourite dish in the world. Pho! So I have to go to Fisherman's. Another great meal. Though prices have gone up and the stock slightly less flavourful. I'll call it an off night.<br/><br/>I love Pho! Correction, I love Northern Vietnamese pho. It would likely be my last meal on earth if I had to choose. This place does pho right. I can't comment on anything else as I only go here for the pho. I'll go elsewhere for my fish and chips.
Ines
Went there. Nice people however they tend to rush you for everything and that's not really pleasant. I know lunch time gets busy but please still try to make us feel special, not just your money givers. Everybody at my table seemed to be quite enjoying their meals. I got the wonton pork and prawns but did not like the Asian plum sauce at all. One of my friend is really keen on going back, I'm not really just because I was a bit disappointed about the service and the lack of taste of my plate.

IS THIS PHO REAL!?!?! (Pronounced fuh)<br/><br/>Can't rate them on their Fish & Chips but their pho is pretty top notch. Rare beef noodle soup is a winner! I love the bits and bobs that come along with Pho; Vietnamese mint, mint, coriander, hoisin and srirachar, lettuce, bean sprouts, a lemon wedge and chopped chilli. <br/><br/>If you've never had Pho, I think the rare beef is a good way to start. Tear the herbs with your fingers, and toss them with some beansprouts into the soup. The hoisin and srirachar is for dipping your beef into. If you're a bit uncomfortable with chopsticks, use the spoon against the chopsticks to help you twirl your noodles into a mouthsized ball. Go for it. Pretty soon you'll be like PHO YEAH this is amazing!

We came here for fish and chips and paid $4 for chips and $5 for fish. The chips were soggy, small and brown. The fish was about a half cm thick and resembled a schnitzel - both were super small portions and the chips almost tasted like off potatoes but the fish batter itself was good although no way worth the value of what we paid.<br/><br/>Wouldn't go back for fish and chips.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thao
The food here is not so special. Its quite expensive when comparing the portion and the price. My friend and I had beef noodle soup and spicy beef noodle soup. Both noddle soup does not reflect the real flavour of the Vietnamese dishes. The beef noodle soup does not have smell of grilled ginger, onion, cinnamon and star aniseed, which are those special spice for beef noodle soup. When i tried the beef noodle soup, i can feel clearly smell of dried noodle@@. The spicy beef<br/>noddle soup does not have a smell of lemongrass as well.

My partner and I got takeaway. I forgot to call ahead and he was advised to phone in when he ordered (fair enough), the wait wasn't too long. We got two orders of vegetarian spring rolls, duck salad and beef satay. The spring rolls were delicious and came with an amazing sweet chili kind of sauce, they were quite oily but that wasn't much of a problem. The duck salad was fresh and full of flavor. I wasn't a fan of the satay sauce but that was just my personal taste. We were happy with our order and will return.
Vicki Wong
Great pho everytime. I always order the rare beef pho which comes out with a very generous side serve of bean sprouts, lettuce and sauces. The soup is super flavoursome and the fresh chilli and lemon balances it perfectly.
Petra Pearce
Great authentic Vietnamese. Big servings (I hardly made a dent in my pho!) and delicious flavours. A fantastic cheap eat option in central Wellington!
Gustav Kierson
The sign says it is a fish and chip shop.  Last three times have been there they have only been able to serve fish and chips once.  First time, they were open, but they had turned off the deep fryers.  Second time, was a success, despite have to pay four dollars for a single piece of fish.  Third time, they were out of fish.  I appreciate they do good vietnamese but they also claim to do fish and chips, and they are well known around Wellington as being a long standing server of fish and chips but if they can't actually provide fish and chips then they should seriously look at rebranding and stop lying to the punters.
Olivia Bao
Went there for lunch on Tuesday with husband. Lucky it was not too many ppl easy to find a seat. Ordered prawn rice paper roll, spicy pho and combination pho. Nice soup and good texture beef/meat. No MSG is a big thump up. Saw the next table had spring roll vermicelli, sounded cripsy. Must go back!
Salya
excellent and authentic food. they make the best pho in New Zealand. the decor is nothing fancy but the food is great and the place is always busy
Kwaneum Suzy Hong
Foods are good but service is not great.  They did not get orders correctly. First time, wrong food came out, and after 30min later second food came out but still wrong noodle. <br/>They did not say sorry or anything. I was really angry about their customer services.
Loly
Nice little place, very good service. The food amazing. The Panko tempura scallops with citrus salad absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu :)
Leona
Arguably still the best pho in Wellington. The rare beef is consistently good, and the broth is mildly spiced and light yet full of flavour.
Adaire Ward
Went here for lunch with mum on a Thursday. From the looks of it, it's an extremely busy place. And for good reason too, the meals are delicious. The decor and service isn't that flash but for the price and the high standard of food you get, I can definitely forgive them. I had the pho (can't get enough of the noodle soups) and really enjoyed it. It comes with a plate of mung beans, greens and hot sauce which is always a welcome accompaniment. The broth itself was really flavorful and true to traditional pho flavours. Although it isn't my favourite pho place (that goes to vietnamese restaurant and cafe in petone) I will definitely be back to have it again and to try out the rest of the menu. :~)
Josh
My absolute favourite pho in town. Little place with no unnecessary trimmings but the food is fantastic. Textured authentic pho at extremely reasonable prices. Great stop for lunch.
J.M-S
Extremely filling. Came for lunch. Ordered the deep fried spring rolls and the Chargrilled pork on vermicelli. The food was delicious and good sized portions. Bit confused about the whole fish and chips mixed with vietnamese food under the same roof. Also having to order the Vietnamese meals like a fish and chip order was quite strange. But apart from that, the food was delicious. Staff was also reliable
Kirnal
Pho masters! Have tried several others around welly and none even come close. Flavour is like none other and price...$12, dam cheap!<br/><br/>We also ordered a mixture of seafood. Which was ok ~ish..a little too greasy. Still the fish fillet was great tasting. Combination fried rice is also recommended.<br/><br/>Definitely be back after a few beers.
Mind The Crumbs
I am reviewing this just for it PHO alone!<br/><br/>After reading the comments, I just had to check this little place out and it didn't disappoint. <br/><br/>We ended up getting a beef pho and the lemongrass and ginger lamb pho. The lamb pho was definity a winner in our eyes. The flavour of the lamb alone was outstanding, then add the broth which was so full of flavour it was outstanding. By far the best pho in Wellington! <br/><br/> Don't let the decor fool you!
Wander Wonder Wonton
...had the best pho bo which is a rare beef noodle soup. The beef was perfect and tender, the broth was rich and full of flavour and it came with a full variety of sides. Your usual sprouts and lettuce but also mint, lemon, chilli and two sauces. The serving was generous and I still ate it all because it was so damn good!!
Kahurangi Hutchings
This place is kind of unassuming. The decor is dated, and I would never have guessed they would have food I could eat as I always assumed (by the name) it was just a fish & chip shop. <br/><br/>Thanks to a friend's recommendation this place has become my go-to for Vietnamese food (ESPECIALLY pho). <br/><br/>Staff are friendly enough, and service is usually pretty quick.
Jack Wang
Happy bunch serving you the best Vietnamese the capital has too offer. Their fish & chip offering is equally as authentic! Squid salad is the bomb!
Angela Liu
Fisherman's plate is my go to for Vietnamese food. I stumbled upon this restaurant in the paper recommended by Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortenson. The place looks pretty unpreprossessing from the outside but the food is top notch.
Jordan Morrice
The Pho came with all the trimmings which was a welcoming surprise. True rare beef and very nice broth. I don't think it takes out Saigon Taste's but it's a very close second. Cool place as well, highly recommend. 8/10
Rosemary Young
Good is authentic and cheap. The pho here is excellent where the soup has a good depth of flavour. Do not expect anything special in terms of decor, as this is more like a takeway place than a fine dining experience.<br/><br/>Great place if you want something light but warming such as a pho.<br/><br/>Checkout my website for a more indepth review

Fast, friendly, no frills, quality Vietnamese food. Best pho in Wellington - now a staple of my diet and I have never felt better.
Vanille O
This place serves up amazing Vietnamese dishes. I've tried most of the item on the menu. They have the best pho in the city. My favourite would be the pancakes and rice rolls. Staff is friendly and always ready to help - got my order wrong once and they fixed it without a frown. If you're not into Vietnamese food, come here for fish and chips or mussel/oyster fritters, they make them pretty good.
Lloyd
This is one of the best restaurants in Wellington hands down. Although first appearances would suggest otherwise, the food here is simply awesome. I've been going to Fisherman's Plate for the last year and usually at least 2 or 3 times every week, mostly for takeaways. I've tried most things on the menu and I have never had a bad experience. If you're after a quick authentic Vietnamese meal at an extremely good price, you can not beat Fisherman's Plate!
Chris Wragge
Hands down, the best Vietnamese that I have eaten outside of Vietnam. I cannot praise it enough. Have tried plenty of fairly expensive Vietnamese restaurants up in up in Auckland and Australia, and this place beats them all - no contest. And it's so cheap. What a bonus! The owner's integrity to remain MSG free really makes a different with the flavours being that much more complex. So, if you haven't tried a cheap night out at the Fisherman's Plate by now, you really are missing out on one of the special places that Wellington has to offer.
Hanz Z
I created an account just so that I can write a review for this restaurant. <br/>This Restaurant is amazing. Cheap price for some really authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I ordered the Bánh cuốn (Pancakes) and Phở (Beef Noodle Soup). It was the best that I have ever had. <br/>Must try if you love Vietnamese cuisine.
Justin Nguyen
I was in Wellington for 5 years and this is a must eat at restaurant I would reckon to everyone.<br/>I was a student at Wellington College and I always went there if I could spare some bucks. I would say 80% of their flavor is Vietnamese authentic since herbs (the key ingredient in VN cuisine) in NZ are very rare or expensive. Their dishes remind me of my hometown.<br/>According to the previous comment about the smell of bamboo chopsticks. Well, the bamboo chopsticks which are for instantly uses are usually packed in paper container, they are fresh chopped from fresh bamboo, then dried out and packed straight away! which means you can easily smell the bamboo from the chopsticks. They are convenient , cheap and a small hint for you to notice beside from the price for labour if they plan to reuse that kind of thing: If they are being reused (rewash and served), pieces of bamboo will tear apart and make your chopstick look hairy!. <br/>The other type of chopstick, which are for long-term used, are made from varieties of materials (Wood, Bamboo, Coconut tree....) they usually come in packs of 6 pairs or 10 at the most in plastic container, painted and classy dark colors. <br/>Anyway, The fisherman on Bond Street, the Korean Restaurant near mount Vic are the two of my favorites! There is also another Vietnamese restaurant called "88". However, I personally think it would be fantastic for "date-9" because beside from their classy-groomy-expensive design, the food is a SO-SO!

This is another MUST EAT when touring our great country. Sure the decor might seem drab or not glitzy enough for some people but the freshness and flavours of the food are unrivalled. Ive eaten bit of vietnamese in wellington and the rest seem oily and greasy . Fisherman's Plate is just such a nice change . I am a firm fan of the prawn summer rolls and the delicious Bun Thit Nuong or chargrilled pork on rice noodles. This dish hits every button for me flavour wise. beautiful tender pork marinated and grilled served with cool rice noodles and a zingy fresh salad of lettuce , carrot, basil, mint and coriander. The fresh herbs add such zing to the whole dish and leave your pallette so invigorated . No oily greasy aftertastes or feeling. I am yet to try there Pho but I have it on good authority from fellow road warriors that its by far the best Pho in wellington. I was a bit greedy last visit and grabbed a combination fried rice to take bck to the hotel to feast on later whilst I slaved away thru the night and this just again impressed with its freshness and flavour.. <br/> Make this your next stop in wellington and then regular place. I do whenever My tour takes me thru the windy city! <br/> It reminds me of eating through asia at the little cafes along the street. fresh and flavourful and cheap to boot! <br/>I hope its there for a very very long time.. and I'll be back in a week for Homegrown Music festival so Ill be back for sure..<br/>Gavin

One of the best Vietnamese restaurant here in Welly. I am Vietnamese and I think the food rivals that of some restaurant in our country. Though its true that the place needs some polishing
Katie Brown
Get the pho! Best pho Wellington has to offer. It is full of spice and perfect for a cold winters day. The salad is fresh and the spices are beautiful. The place looks pretty average, but the food is far from it. Amazing.
Stephanie
I ordered the Spicy Beef Rice Noodle Soup from Fisherman's Plate today, wondering whether it would taste Vietnamese or if it would be a fake Chinese knock-off of Vietnamese Cuisine. Thankfully it was the former. <br/><br/>Highly flavoursome broth (and a generous amount of it too), with a reasonable amount of beef and what appeared to be fish cake &amp; some sort of meat cake. It also had enough veges to make me feel like I'd had my required lunchtime vege fix. <br/><br/>The only downside was the broth was a bit too sweet, and there weren't enough noodles. <br/><br/>At $11.50, it was definitely worth it taste-wise, although I would expect a few more noodles. Definitely going back :) Tasty, authentic Vietnamese food is hard to find, so I'm glad I got lucky finding Fisherman's Plate.
Harry Hudson
Decided to try this as a takeaway, and the prawn salad roll, pad Thai, beef and noodle were just perfect. Fresh salad, subtle flavours and delicious meat. One of the best, ever.<br/><br/>Two generous sauces were provided, a mild sweet chili and a creamy peanut to compliment the flavours of the salad rolls.<br/><br/>The portions were a good size, and good value for money. <br/><br/>The menu is extensive, and I know it will be quite a while to work through other dishes if they continue to live up to the initial tasting.
Geoff Burch
Surperb vietnamese pork n noodle dishes. I love this place!! You have to be early. Hard to get a table around 12:30
Caroline
Despite its deceptive name this modest place does some of the best Vietnamese in Wellington. Fresh, generous, herby, spicy and authentic. Their stocks and sauces are home made. And their pho bo (beef noodle soup) is awesome. We work nearby and have had most of the noodle soups (duck, beef, chicken etc); and other dishes including pad Thai, boi tai, muc cien and more. <br/><br/>Being enterprising sorts they also function as a pretty average fish and chip and burger takeaway. Which is probably what pulls their ratings down. <br/><br/>Stick with their Vietnamese fare and you can't go wrong.
