Review Sterling Woodfire Eatery & Bar - Wellington

We had breakfast here when we stayed at the Park Hotel. We ordered the Salmon Bagel and Mushroom on Toast. The portion sizes were very generous and tasty. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We went back in the afternoon for a drink and also enjoyed it.

Beautiful food 😍, a little bit on the expensive side - however there are a couple of more moderately priced items on menu. (Pictured is the chargrilled broccoli on ricotta & sourdough, and the cauliflower. ) Visited on a weekday lunchtime. Would definitely go again!

We had dinner here 3 nights in a row. Enjoy the food so much. Friendly service.

This was my first visit and I was really impressed. Lovely staff, the choices on the menu were varied and the dish I had was soooo yummy. We ate during the weekday lunch hour and came away really happy. We all paid individually too.

Fabulous find in Wellington. I stayed at the Park Hotel and quite surprised and delighted by this little gem as normally I avoid hotel restaurants. Great food but even better service. Very friendly and genuine in that very Kiwi way. Highly recommended 👍

Ask for Amber to be your waitress. She is sincerely friendly and even though she is very busy she will have a quick chit chat with you. The second day we went, we had a different waitress who was unfriendly - fake forced smile, abrupt, and an unpleasant attitude. Luckily, Amber recognized us and made our evening enjoyable. The beef special was amazing. Unfortunately, they didn't have it the next day. Don't forget to order the flat bread. It is cooked in the woodfire oven and tastes sooo good.

Got breakfast here as part of staying at The Park Hotel. Got bacon, eggs and mushrooms. Was pretty good, would definitely return here.

Came here for lunch with a group of about 8. This place had very good service and a lovely atmosphere with a huge full length skylight right across the room. They've worked hard to get the interior looking great too. The food was really nice. I opted for a cheese burger and fries. The fries were a little on the over salted site - but I like salt. The burger was really good. Ok value for money - a little on the high side for chips and a burger but the pattie was hand made and nicely cooked and I enjoyed the flavour. I'd come back again. Others at my table had a fantastic looking salad with chicken and seemed to very much enjoy it! I didn't hear any complaints.

Delicious food, top notch coffee and amazing service every time. Went for breakfast and had some gorgeous poached eggs on sourdough with wood fired mushrooms. They also do a great happy hour deal on their signature cocktail and $5 flat breads on Fridays, really tasty and amazing value!! Not to be missed!

Cute, clean and modern decor. Welcoming, friendly and attentive service. Food was absolutely delicious (sorry no photo this time) ordered the Fish (without potatoes) added a plate of asparagus with garlic, food was memorable and beautifully presented - 6.00pm, 09.10.18.

I read about Sterling in the paper and thought it worth a try. My partner and I went along on a whim for dinner and I must say the meal was soo good it was memorable. I had the crispy pork belly and my partner had the slow-roasted lamb. Both were amazing. The service was some of the best I have experienced in Wellington and the vibe of the place is nice, especially for an establishment attached to a hotel. We will be back for sure.

Went here for breakfast, the food was pretty good. The bacon looked tasty! My friend had the vegan mushrooms which was quite dry, no vegan alternatives were given for the feta or egg which was a shame. My soy flat white was curdled :( also the service was a bit shabby. The lady serving us was blunt and generally unhappy.

I've been here twice: once for dinner and once for lunch. Dinner was bad, lunch was great. Dinner was goat burger and lamb was muttonbird. Not to my liking. Lunch was mushroom burger with fries. This was excellent, the fries (shoestrings) were unusually yum.

Nice atmosphere. Two experiences that were quite different, so will give it another go one day.

Salmon and mash were great. Some staff were great, one was a bit short. Presentation great. Ambience nice outside with the heaters. Would definitely come again

Went for a date night as the last time we went everything was superb. This time was the complete opposite. The food was really underwhelming. Steak tartare was really salty and the beef burger was barely an upgrade on McDonalds. The steak while cooked well was looking sad on the plate with a tiny stack of underdone potatoes, two miniature pickled onions and a real lack of sauce. I've had a few mojitos around town and this was by far the worst. It was so average that it was the probably reason why it wasn't on the drinks list. Perhaps don't offer to make it for anyone if you can't get it right? Didn't bother with dessert.

Came here for dinner with my family. The setup was focus more on the bar than a restaurant so avoid if theres a function on. The staff were friendly but they do push you to order more. I ordered the steak without any sides but I was constantly reminded that I have no sides from the waiter.
Please understand that when i want sides or anything else i will order it at my own pace. Didnt appreciate the pushy waiter/marketer. Didnt know you earn comission from every dish.
The steak and plating was good but it wasnt as good as the steak down south island of nz.
Other members of my family enjoyed the oysters and salmon dishes but for me I didnt like it.
Final thought: its a no for the steak but a go for the fish and oysters. CON: Pushy waiter, he might even ask you to order the entite menu for his satisfaction.

What a great new cafe from the owners of Egmont Street Eatery. There's an amazing selection of small plates and the burgers are amazing. I haven't tried the pizza yet but the huge wood fired oven implies excellence.

Came for lunch during WOAP. The Sterling burger was fantastic. Well cooked venison with great texture and flavour. The sauces complimented well and really set it apart. Super quiet when we went (3pm ish) so everything was out fast. Friendly and relaxed service. Will be back for dinner. Their donuts and ramen at the pop up were top notch too.

Lovely setup, very clean and modern. Friendly and helpful staff especially the french woman who we had some nice conversation with. We've had lunch and a few drinks here, also had some macchiato's brought up to our room, as a tradition for my dads anniversary (he was deemed mr. macchiato from our local cafe) great location and perfect quality food. My mum had a complaint about the potatoes being a bit undercooked but they took the feedback well and provided us with free coffees which I thought was pretty sweet! I personally had the Wagyu beef burger which I can easily say is the best beef I've had in a burger, period. Will definitely be back if we're ever in Wellington again :-)
