Delicious food. Sometimes, if you don't book, you may have to wait a while for a table. The service speed is standard, sometimes a little slow when they get busy. Great atmosphere and I love how the dining area is a little separated from the bar and pub area so that the noise from the bar doesn't really travel to the diners. Seriously popular and is a great eatery. Some must-trys are the buffalo wings and the ribs. They're seriously good, however, I haven't really had anything there that has disappointed me I don't think.
Good service and the atmosphere is pleasant and warm. We had the Wellington on a Plate burger special, and while I am a fan of blue cheese, in this case it completely overpowered the rest of the ingredients. The bun which was a flat bread/pita bread also made the burger "structurally unsound". Overall it was well cooked however, the venison patty wasn't overcooked which was great.
There is a pleasant and whimsical sense of humor in this cafe; framed pencils of famous cartoon characters and bird houses on the wall. Solid kitchen and good coffee. We are only familiar with breakfast menu as we enjoy taking short weekend drives around Katori and Kelburn and this place is one reason why. Generous spaces, warm room.
Came for breakfast today just after 11am and it was really nice. Coffee was very good. The man who served us today was really nice and friendly (he mentioned he's from Christchurch). I chose the eggs on toast and added sides and my partner had the full breakfast minus the black pudding (they gave him an extra sausage).
A great local pub, excellent selection of beer and great service. We went with friend on a Thursday and 5/6 of our party had the build your own steak. I had the Vegeta Bird burger which was lovely and I enjoyed the veg and halloumi. I am not a big fan of chips but these ones were well worth eating. The others all enjoyed their steaks but did mention that they weren't all cooked as asked, this wasn't a big problem.
Our waitress was tested a little by the Texan in our party who asked for his fried eggs to be medium. The chef sent her back to check what was meant, none of us except the Texan knew. He explained he wanted them cooked for 2 minutes longer than normal. He was happy with them.
I finished with a creme brulee, it was perfect. The pavlova was enjoyed by the Texan and the brownie was declared great but we weren't sure about the smoky ice cream.
All up, a great pub with great food.
Great spot for live music, delicious craft beer and a good pub meal. My friends and I love steak night on Thursdays and the rotating beer selection is unbeatable. Great staff, too!
Very pleasant local pub though a dismissive head barman put me off with his attitude. Went here with friends for the Tuesday Quiz Night which was good fun.
Meals are reasonably priced, but unimaginative and surprisingly small portions for pub meals. There was no problem adapting my dish for special dietary requirements which was excellent.
Overall a nice atmosphere, pleasant decor and decent food make this a good local village pub.
Called in for lunch using an entertainment voucher (2-4-1) after it popped up on the ap.
The decor is quirky yet comfortable and I imagine it would be a great place for a night out with a group of friends (and a few beersies).
The service was good, the woman serving us from friendly and attentive.
The food was good bistro food. Tasty but not amazing.
My friend had the big breakfast and I wouldn't call it that "big".... it was beautifully plated though.
I had the herbed schnitzel. It was tasty but the crumb was a little doughy (not cooked in enough oil perhaps. Full of flavour though and the chips had a delicious coating on them. Also a large serving, esp when considered against the meal my friend had.
Would go back...... to try the craft beer selection and eat the fries. :-)
Just moved to karori , so decided to try out one fat bird for a drink and a bite to eat! Great selection of beers and wines . My friend and I bought opted to try the burgers . The fat bird burger was delicious , the black pudding was a very tasty addition .
The best kids menu's ever, food was fresh and well presented they were late bringing out one meal but compensated by not charging us for it, we were a very large table tho so its easy enough to do and a really chill atmosphere with live music
Excellent food, great service, and always room for the family. Tonight when faced with the prospect of going downtown and getting the runaround for an hour before finding a spot, I said “Let’s just go to One Fat Bird, have a nice dinner, and no wait to sit down?” And tonight was rugby night so it was busier than usual, and still we got seated immediately. I will never complain about you, OFB!
We happened upon One Fat Bird by chance and it was an incredible place to go with the family. We were only there for appetisers and drinks unfortunately, as we were expected for dinner at the family's house. We walked in & us parents were pleased at the beer selection. The kids were immediately drawn to the whimsical decorations. Suzanna, who was front of the house staff, immediately made us feel super welcome & was so lovely & had spot on service. She went the extra mile and was fantastic with the kids. Our drinks were great. Our bowl of chips $11 and 8 buffalo wings $16 were delicious. The kids menu was in 3D so 3D glasses were worn by the kids. Good fun all around & we highly recommend.
Nice place for a reasonably priced meal. Had a good atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. Meals were tasty and delivered quickly. I can recommend this place.
One Fat Bird is the best kept secret in Karori! After a busy day of house hunting we stumbled in famished. Wonderful service and killer wings to boot, I can comfortably say this restaurant is my go to for a nice afternoon outing. Lovely atmosphere with unique food offerings, I highly recommend you try them out!
Great place for an early morning breakfast to watch the rugby. Food was good, service was excellent for such a large crowd. Definitely will come again.
Great selection of food and beverages, although priced slightly high. Overall, really friendly staff and a warm and welcoming environment. Has a weekly quiz night and live music too. Would definitely recommend this local venue, to those who wish to pay it a visit!
We visited One Fat Bird for some beers, snacks and story telling after a family funeral. The service was excellent and the platters and beer delicious - 12 of us loved it so much we ended up staying on for dinner making it a 7 hour celebration of life all up!
Kids friendly restaurant, attentive staff, great kids menu with drink and dessert inclusive for 11$. Sunday after 5pm kids eat free. Some street parking outside. Good menu and drink selection. Located near karori pool, great place for a meal after swim.
Great local pub, wide selection of beers and wines. Food is good quality "pub grub" especially the burgers.
