Review Le Marche Francais - Wellington

Justin Olsen
Our visit to Le Marché Français was wonderful. The selection of cheese had great variety and the staff was very helpful finding a cheese to meet our needs. We also picked a baguette to go with the cheeses and enjoyed it very much. An added bonus was being able to practice my French.

This place is a hidden gem, because it's actually hidden in an old building in a high end mall. I would prefer if it was set on a nice terrace like on a busy "Parisian" street however, do not fret, you can still get a taste of France there, I promise. We received a very enjoyable service with multilingual staff! Oui, you can definitely be served in Français there. The food is delicious! We had the Roquefort and Leek Tarte... Amazing! That thing packs a lot of flavor. The Canard Confit was a delight, served with duck fat potatoes, a small salad and some baguette. The coffee was on point and arrived promptly. Crème Brulée and Almond Croissants as desserts were so well worth it! I will surely be back there soon. Merci et à bientôt! * I will post more photos next time

We found this place from a booth at Harbour view market. Great range of selection of cheese. The café is so lovely. We enjoy the food and shopping here. The chef lady is super friendly and very relaxed which transpires a lot in their dishes. We love her energy. Very welcoming. The pastries are divine. It almost makes us believe that we just walk into a café in France.

As good as being in France, the food was exquisite , the selection huge and extremely good value. The attentive staff charming.and informative. The easy parking place for a long lunch with perfect everything

Delicious homemade French food such as tarte tatin, quiche, brulée and other classic French delights. Coffee was good and service excellent. They brought our quiches out and waited until we'd finished before bringing our sweet tarts, rather than loading up our table all at once. The ambience was nice too. Cost for two, including one coffee and a bottle of mineral water, was $58.50. Next to the café is Le Marché deli with a wide range of gorgeous cheeses, chocolate, jams, condiments and all sorts of things. We couldn't help but stock up! Note there's a range of olive oil from Crete that's currently half price as it's past its "best before" date.

Haven't visited but, dealt with a really lovely woman over the phone today helping her with eftpos (very sad I didn't quite catch her name) But she was nothing but kind and wonderful to work with which can only say alot about the amazing customer service they must provide at their business. - Eftpos lady

Strong coffee, beautiful homemade apricot jam with the baguette. The omelet was also really tasty. Looking forward to our next visit.

French pancakes with maple syrup was just perfect for a brunch catch up with friends. Sat and had several coffees in a very relaxed environment while we caught up on all the gossip

Incredible food only matched by its brilliant, authentic service. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. The chef is outstanding and the price is a steal.

So far the BEST breakfast I’ve had in Wellington. Everything was delicious, perfect service. I’ll definitely come back.

The comte cheese is delicious. These guys arranged a special saturday delivery so I'd have it in time for a birthday.

Great coffee and the almond croissant is absolutely divine. Love the ambiance and the market next to it has an array of French goodies. Will definitely be a favourite 😊

Had brunch here with husband and friend. The food was incredible. The service was lovely and the space was as good as you could expect it, in the semi hidden area it was located. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Definitely will go again!

<br/>3 minutes ago<br/><br/>If only I could give 5+ stars, this was a great find and with a chef that cooked for the French Olympic team during the 2000 Olympics in Australia you can't go wrong. Wanted some traditional French cuisine and Le Marché did not disappoint. My partner had the French toast which was excellent and was using a dense bread that had a perfect balance. I ordered the special which was Pork Cheek that was super tender along with a rich sauce that was also great with the baguette.<br/><br/>

It's a bit hidden away and the atmosphere is perhaps not great as it is surrounded by business showroom type offices, BUT the food and coffee is really great. They have a good selection of quiches and soup of the day at reasonable prices. I had the quiche with goats cheese, spinach and figs, and a flat white. They also have a dangerously delicious looking selection of pastries and  sweet treats if you like that kind of thing. The staff tend to be frenchies on working holiday visas adding to the authenticity and there's a french marketplace next door where you can buy cheeses and other imported french goodies.

Fantastic food and great service. The staff are helpful and friendly and the food arrives quite quickly. The coffee is good too. What more can I say.

This is based on the service and quality of food provided at the cafes satellite site at the Newtown vege market on Saturday. We have bought a fair few cheeses over the last four weeks, probably nine or ten now and they have all been fantastic. The service is awesome, the staff are helpful with information, friendly and let you try different cheeses before you buy. Really impressive range of cheeses and even a sourdough some weekends. Excellent and would recommend.

My first trip to Le Marche warranted more than just a coffee so in true Hobbit style I opted for a second-breakfast, consisting of French omelette with cheese and a side of butter/herb mushrooms. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food was excellent though what brought me here was access to a French delicatessen, cheeses and breads. What is available is excellent though I'd like to have seen a fuller selection of French treats and delicacies. I'm sure other things are available on request and greatly appreciate the availability of any of these food items so very far from France. I didn't ask if their French sticks were baked fresh locally (presumably) and could keep them busy just baking me bread; it was delicious!

Have only been a couple of times, but on both occasions the food was fantastic. An interesting wee space, it's certainly worth finding and having a meal here.

Tucked away above the (new) Kirkcaldies outlet store in the recently refurbished/strengthened Wool Store  - it is an absolute gem in every respect. <br/>Its light and airy contemporary space caters for all clientèle... local businesses, casual shoppers, friends catching up (with/without kids in tow)... and an excellent mobile office space if required. The Deli is well stocked with a comprehensive range of French produce... and its imported French cheese selection, unequalled. <br/>The Cafe (licensed) offers possibly a fare unequalled in quality and value within Wellington... and the Croque Madame ... "C'est magnifique !" ... which sums up both the menu item and the extent of my French!  With Supreme coffee also featuring... it probably doesn't get much better than this. Check it out.

Most weeks my husband pops over to Thorndon Quay and gets some cheese; always the brie de meaux and often morbier or a blue - maybe Saint Agur. Nice.<br/>Sometimes he will take a visitor to have coffee and fruit tart in the cafe. Sometimes he brings home pâté or mustard or a whole quiche or tart if we are having guests. Life is good living near Le Marche Francais. Can get their cheeses from Frank Kitt's market on Sundays.

The wonderful greeting from the restaurant's Manageress. Up front &amp; extremely gregarious. It was lovely to chat informally &amp; even though it was lunch time she made the time to establish who we were and have a few laughs.<br/>Our waitress was lovely &amp; friendly with her "beautiful French accent."<br/><br/>When we climbed up the 2 flights of stairs we bumped into a couple who highly recommended the omelet they had had one breakfast time.<br/>Another told us how the Manageress had made good use of figs in a Quiche of the day.<br/><br/>The access is up two flights of stairs.<br/>We loved our meal &amp; will be back.<br/>My only suggestion is the lighting could be softened.<br/>There is a piquant cheese in the deli shop to die for. Smooth with a little bite (Meule des Alpes.)<br/><br/>A bientot &amp; merci.<br/>We will be back.<br/>Rosie

My husband and I found this place almost by accident because it had parking available on a Saturday lunchtime and we were starving!<br/><br/>The service was fantastic, the croque madam and monsieurs delicious, the lemon macaroon scrummy and the chocolate orange tart to die for. The only slight let down was the coffee was slightly burnt.<br/><br/>As a bonus it's much more reasonably priced than La Cloche about 200m further down the road. We'll be back :)

I was very let down and shocked at the poor service.<br/>After ordering lunch and drinks then waiting a normal 15 mins before the food arrived we were told there was no fresh tuna for the nicoise and would we like tinned, this as I was given my food( a good quiche but with a terrible mesclun salad) my wife then felt under pressure to choose quickly as I had hot food in front of me. She chose a ham sandwich($10 cheaper) and then our drinks turned up 20 mins later and they were only bottled soft drinks!<br/>The chef came out and apologized which was nice and told us that she was very sorry about the mix up and gave us some macaroons which we thought was a lovely touch. We then asked for our refund ( the sandwich was $7.50 compared to the tuna that was $18) we were then told the macaroons were to make up for the cost, which was a shock to us as we were promised a refund from the chef. But not so, we were told it all equalled out: no tuna that we wanted, a ham sandwich($7.5) and macaroons($8) that we didn't want, adding up to $15.5 and we paid $18 for the tuna, leaving us $2.5 short. this in our mind didn't equal out. The food was fine but the service and communication between staff and customers really needs to be looked at.

Great coffee, good selection of papers and magazines, toybox for kids a big plus.<br/><br/>Good selection and reasonable prices.<br/><br/>The hazelnut tart is to die for.

Wonderful cafe and great authentic French food at even greater prices! I had a Quiche Salmon and Spinach. The pastry was crispy without being too hard. the cream cheese, salmon and spinach were done just right too! For dessert, I had a chocolate hazelnut tart which was superb! Tres bon!! A place I'd bring friends. Just wish it was closer to the city centre.
Yann
Great place, very friendly staff, authentic food, and great little deli market to bring back french treats home. I just wish I'd live closer to Le Marcher Francais.<br/>Lovin' it!
Vanessa
Wonderful! The staff are always friendly and attentive. The coffee is fanatastic (I would know, I used to be a Barrista), and the food devine! Forget all the other French cafes on Thorndon Quay, this one is the best.
