Review Taste Of Raj - Wellington

Awesome awesome awesome curry here and incredibly friendly service. Every dish was delicious and so full of flavour. Portion sizes were huge and you can definitely get away with sharing a bit of everything of all your mates plates 😜 Amazingly good value as well

The best Indian Food in the Wellington area, we drive from Brooklyn for this food. We have all tried of the Indian restaurants in the wellington area and no one has beat the Taste of Raj favour/ quality yet. Great service, Great prices. 10/10

Like Indian food? You'll love Taste of Raj. Great goat curry and the chef's specials are outstanding. Friendly and obliging front of house makes for a great dining experience.

Great food, and pleasant staff. Were happy to accomodate for our large group showing up at the last minute. Its also cool how there is a big glass screen so that you can look into the kitchen to watch the food preperation

Definitely my favourite curry in Wellington! Super friendly staff, great service and nice decor. Wish I could give the curry more than 5 stars :)

Great food, great service, and a really nice spot for a meal! We've been making our way through all Petone and Lower Hutts Indian restaurants, and this is my favorite!

I’m quite picky when it comes to curry but this place knows what they are doing! Service was good and place was clean and tidy. I will be back!

Nice little restaurant with some decent indian food. Customer service is great with personality which is hard to find these days! This is the place to go for a nice quiet meal but walk away with a great experience.

Lovely quick service and beautiful food - a family outing I'll remember. Staff were great and very helpful. Would definitely go again. Did I mention how amazing the food was as well as the cute little dishes they are served on?

I've only dined here once, relatively close to the restaurants opening -
I was left underwhelmed by the consistency, flavour and portioning of the meal I purchased, as the sauce was runny and bland. The chicken was cooked through, but didn't have that level of absorbency you'd expect from marinaded protein.
That said, the staff were happy enough to serve me at about 10 minutes to closing time which I appreciated - I'll visit again to see how things have developed

My wife and I dined here, having a lamb badam pasanda and chicken dansak. Neither was very tasty and were just uninspiring. As it was our first visit we were hoping for something with a bit of flair, but it looks like this restaurant is just like most other Indian restaurants in NZ: flavourless and dumbed down for the NZ palette.

Our elusive hunt for our kind of Indian lead us to this restaurant.
We got takeaways with Riata and cheese Naan.
The place looks clean and is staffed by very friendly people.
We did find the food to be not too exciting for us and probably won't return. The best part was the bread. The Chicken meal was average, just like a lot of Indian places, but the Riata was not too good.

We dined on a whim, with two kids in tow and were really impressed!! The service was top notch and the food fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. We had six entrees, four mains with two breads and paid little over $100! Highlight was the lamb tikka and the mango chicken. As for the wine list... A glass of Alan Scott for $6?!!! Drinks are affordable and they're BYO. We will certainly be coming back.

Calling all Indians! Taste of Raj is not your usual sickly sweet creamy curry affair. The butter chicken is smokey, spicy and positively savoury. Another great point of difference is their indo-chinese menu. They make great soups and fried rice. I'd urge you to try something new. Indo-chinese food is one of India's most beloved cusins and relatively unknown outside of the country.
Taste of Raj has a good ambience and very helpful staff. It's equally good for couples, takeaways and large groups.
A must try!

A great addition to the dining seen in Petone and a welcome change to the Indian chain restaurant down the road. Good food and good service.

Taste of Raj is relatively new to the Petone food scene, where two other specialty Indian restaurants are already well established. Four of us dined at Taste of Raj on Saturday night. The decor is modern and stylish and we had a window seat. There was one other table dining when we arrived around 6.30, and one or two takeaway orders, but otherwise we had the restaurant to ourselves for a good hour or so. There are a number of specialty dishes on the menu without a description, so we had to ask our waiter what the ingredients were. His service was friendly and efficient throughout our meal. Between the four of us, we ordered two chicken and two lamb curries with rice, plain naan and garlic naan. The specialty chicken Wellington and lamb handi laziz (lamb in an onion and cashew sauce finished with cheese) tasted good but the flavour palette was very similar between all the dishes we tried. I'm not sure why we were the only diners at Taste of Raj for about an hour on what should have been a busy Saturday night. The food, menu, service and prices are reasonable. The restaurant just hasn't seemed to take off yet.

Very impressed with Taste of Raj, great selection of mains with some new dishes I hadn't heard of before, the starter of Tandori mushrooms was delicious and my Paneer Tika Masala was very nice. will be back again to try the other mains as a vegetarian I was impressed with the options available

Really enjoyed our experience at Taste of Raj tonight - great service and lovely food at a price that didn't make us wince. A very pleasant family meal that everyone liked. There weren't many diners but I think that they will become a lot busier. Would definitely repeat the experience and recommend to others.

Taste of Raj has just opened a few weeks ago. My first impression is that it is just another Indian place to add to our wonderful selection in Wellington. I am happy to say that the staff were a pleasant surprise. They are friendly and welcoming. The one young woman working when I went was quick to get me a drink. It was nice to see all of the friendly faces smiling back from the open kitchen. The food was good....and pricing very reasonable.

When eating in Petone it is always a good idea to book to avoid disappointment, Taste Of Raj wasn’t full this time, I can see that once word gets around booking will be a necessity. My advice would be to get in their first and be the cool one in the know! Anyway, onto the food, it was good, so very good.

We were a party of five and we did the traditional over order on the starters. We did manage to make a very good dent on the Onion Bhaji, Chicken Lollipop, and the Tandoori Dawat mixed platter. We all enjoyed the mix but agreed we wouldn’t order that much again. I was particularly taken with the fish tikka and that is something I wouldn’t usually order. The mixed platter arrived on a very decent bed of vegetables which also got a good picking over.

For mains we each picked a dish and went for the bread basket. Mains were Chicken Korma (mild as ordered by Miss M), Lamb Dhansak, Murgh Tikka Makahani Palak, Chicken Jalfrezi and Vegetable Kohlapuri. I chose the later and had never heard of it before, it was a lovely tomato based sauce packed full of vegetables. All of the mains were declared excellent and we are all big fans of Indian food. The bread basket was huge and the above photograph only shows on basket, there was so much naan that two baskets were needed. They checked on our progress and if we needed any more rice a couple of times, which was nice.

All up, a excellent meal and we would all go back. We have talked several times about ‘next time’ today. That is always a good sign of how good somewhere is.

Go in, give it a try and don’t be put off by the signs. I sincerely hope they stick around as the whole meal was a lovely experience.

An Experience to Remember – Just opened and short staffed they managed to contend with the breakdown in the Front of House Service. The Meals were absolutely beautiful. We had the Lamb Vindaloo and My very own favourite the Chicken Tikka Masala. The Lamb Vindaloo prepared hot was an absolute hit with a glass of Shiraz. The Lamb prepared to perfection, tender and the flavours in this dish were excellent. The Chicken Tikka Masala was what I expected “Brilliant”. This little Family Owned Business in the heart of Petone “Jackson Street”, is a definite Yes in my books. A great vibe, great food and a Big Well Done.

We went to this restaurant for dinner on Friday 5th Sept. The Owner Raj really understands the psychology of hospitality. We felt that Raj's prime goal is not to make money but, guests' satisfaction. It's not often that you hit the trifecta of excellent food, superb service and outstanding value for money, but Taste of Raj does all three. The staff are friendly and I love the fact we got a complementary poppadom to munch on while deciding on your order. The food is tasty and the naan bread billowy. What more could you ask for?

We will go back. Chicken Dopiaza was delicious- I still have the taste of it on my tastebuds.

Thanks.

New Indian restaurant in Petone! Yes, another one, but definitely worth the try! Heaps of meals to choose from! Great service! Beautiful meals, flavours were amazing! Highly recommend :-)

This new Indian restaurant is a nice addition to the already fantastic cafe and restaurant scene. The menu offers a good range and the dishes we selected were tasty and fresh. Good sevice and comfortable seating. Reasonable prices. The drink selection is limited but ok. Some craft beers would not go a miss though.
