Review Abrakebabra - Wellington

Mahdi Abdollahi
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Abrakebabra, and I must say, their lamb pizza was a true culinary masterpiece. The combination of succulent lamb, perfectly seasoned toppings, and a crisp crust left me absolutely delighted. Each bite was a burst of flavor that showcased the skill and attention to detail of the kitchen. The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. I highly recommend trying their lamb pizza; it's a culinary adventure that shouldn't be missed!

Nice please to eat Had their Syrian kebab thing and lamb burger for 15nzd and 11 nzd. Decent please. And good food, specially lamb was delicious. Last but not least free WiFi. The place has halal / حال word on its menu and I saw many Muslims (from their appearance) to be eating there. I asked about HALAL status from the guy who was taking orders and he also acknowledged it. And Allah knows the best.

Self service, friendly staff and generally fine food but the official web site does not update the current food prices!

A Wellington classic. Great food, and really friendly service. These guys know how to make a great kebab. If you ask nicely, they'll put mayo on your chips.

Very nice Middle East food

This Kebab place has become an institution in Wellington and for good reason. The food is excellent, the staff are wonderful, the store is worth going to and enjoying the wonderful decor and mood. On the way out, get a can of Dolmas to try. They are amazingly good.

Had the meat on chips. Wasn't the best I've had but it was ok. Not sure the quantity was in line with the cost but wasn't too bad. The service was pretty good and friendly. The decor was pretty good and the atmosphere was the same.

Great food and such a good portion for the price. Was impressed with their service. Ambiance was great and place looked very hygienic too. Try their chicken or lamb Turkish pizzas and you won’t be disappointed. I was told they home deliver food as well, so food sorted for all the windy or wet Wellington evenings. Would love to visit again and try more items from the menu.

Loved the place. The ambience was great. The food was amazing. Prices were a little bit high. Staff were friendly. The location of the place is good very accessible. It's a definite recommendation. This place has a character. Feels like you are in middle east somewhere I guess.

Great food and service! Very authentic. Affordable prices for Wellington. Definitely try the lamb iskender

Keep it short, the best Kebabs, shawarmas, shish kebabs, iskanders, turkish pizza, meat on chips and many other options. Abrakebabra, is the place to visit and enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean food with friends and family. The staff members are friendly and welcome you to inform about their products. Free WiFi is available for their guests. I really recommend this place. Cheers

This isn't my cup of tea. Very disappointed after I came here to get a stomachache rather than good kebab and food. Additionally the place was not very clean when we were there and the meat was half cooked. The kitchen was filthy from what I'd saw.
Would not come here unless your stomach is made of iron.
I had the best Lamb kebab burger in my life!!! The burger "bun" itself is made of naan, which is the best naan I have ever had!! Very soft and doughy with the aromatic flavor!! Just try it!! The lamb is also full of flavor but the sauce is a little spicy. Service is amazing too!! Will come back for the naan haha

Definitely coming back for the Supreme Shawarma! Pro tip: visit this place at non busy times.
Fantastic flavour, big portion and good ambiance. Staff were ok, could be friendlier

This pl is super popular when I go at lunch time during the week. There is so much on offer and prices are reasonable. I have started to get the small $9 chicken burger combo - burger (meat, lettuce, carrot, onion and 1 sauce of choice) chips and a drink. It’s a total bargain and portion size is fine for lunch if you don’t want to feel bloated or over eat. The Turkish bread is amazing 👌🏽

Ordered delivery, they missed sending half our order. Called them and they said won't deliver the rest of order and we could pick it up next time we were in town. Guy who answered was pretty rude about it too. Will never eat here again.
Interesting and tasty kebabs served hot and fresh. The menu is varied and well-priced and the serving sizes are good.

Unfortunately, our experience was diminished by the service. The staff were very busy and didn’t take our order down correctly. When this was brought to their attention, they seemed bothered. It brought down an otherwise positive experience.

Worst place ever. We tried abrakebabra on out first day to wellington. The meat was not cooked properly and raw. The restaurant was not clean or well maintained . After trying some of the food we were so disappointed and left hungry. After an hour we all had upset stomach for the rest of the day.

The best kebabs obviously come from Abrakebabra. The place is always clean and the staff are really friendly.

I totally recommend their Turkish garlic bread!!

Pro tip: never ever order their Diablo chilli burger or kebab. That s*** sends you straight to the toilet, I mean I can handle spice but WEOW that stuff is deadly.

For more info check out my Instagram page

Politely asked for a reasonably customised order - chips, with salad and meat on top. Took them three attempts to execute the order, one attempt including wrapping chips up in a kebab. Cost $16, serving size was small enough that I ate another meal immediately after and tasted pretty average.

Best chicken burgers ever, absolutely delicious.. pretty good fries too- a bit crunchy! Huge portions. The customer service is normally decent. This is a staple in my collection.

not good pretty average food orders iskander not good. should have good service too bz the guy served forget to give chips and garlic bread which was upgraded

I love my Turkish and am very fussy where I go for it. Thus place was a local recommendation so venture out we did.
I ordered a large mixed Iskander for myself and my daughter decided to go for a rice and meat dish with fries. All up plus drinks $30 and well worth the price.
Absolutely loved the flavour of the meats and the options of salad and sauces added to the taste. The staff were helpful and friendly and due to a slight Eftpos issue let us pay after the meal.
A few people came and went with a takeaway kebab or more so obviously a local favorite.

A quick stop for a lunch. Order the roti wrap with chicken. Overall the taste was good but the roti was a bit dry. Would try flat bread next time.

Been here before ages ago, but popped in for lunch the other day.

Bit of a queue at lunchtime so it's obviously popular. Can eat in which is good too.

I ordered a $10 chicken kebab. Good selection of fresh fillings to choose from. All the standard ones. And the standard sauces. Didn’t have to wait long they dealt with the queue pretty quickly.

Not much else to say other than it was a good kebab. Tasty. Would go again.

I used to hit this joint on the regular back in the day and I'm glad we've rekindled our relationship. I try to alternate between chicken and lamb and on the days I can't decide I go for the mixed. My mate always gets the falafel, but I'm quite sure she secretly covets my meat.

What a name!! I love this place already.
We visited Abrakebabra during a trip down to Wellington for a Te Papa exhibit over Waitangi Weekend.

A friend of mine wanted to try the Dragon's Fire kebab (I may have remembered the name wrong!) which was super spicy - but he looooves his chilli. That's the main reason we came here.
When we entered the staff greeted us. It was fairly quiet, but that may have been due to the nightmarket going on over at the next street down. A few more people walked in when we were leaving, though, so we might have just been early!
I got a shawarma to share with my other friend, and another friend got a kebab.

Wooo-ow!! The kebabs are huge!! I am so glad we got one to share. We got the supreme shawarma in large. You can see in the picture how big it was!
And wowee, I didn't know kebabs tasted this good! I've only had Kebabs on Queen from Queen St, Auckland CBD and the like, they weren't terribly appetising.
But this kebab, the bread/wrap was soft and chewy, the vegetables were fresh, and the meat was tasty, and the sauces went smoothly!
What more can I say? Totally worth it.

Visited my old time favourite while I was back in Welly. Seems like the original owner has sold the business. Gone with my old time fav which is the lamb burger. this is the only place that does burger with Turkish bread instead of a burger bun. The young fellow who did my meal was a bit inexperience as he had the grill too high and burnt the bread. The burger was not as great as how it used to be. We have also order the chicken pasta, it used to be cooked in a thick creamy sauce, now its very watery and disappointing. The Kebab was ok but the young fellow mixed some cold meat in the kebab just before he wrap it as he realised we ordered a large and he didn't put enough meat in the first place. They will need to up their game to bring back some of the former glory.

I have visited many times and the place used to be good and give generous portions. The place has gone down hill since they won their award a couple of years ago. I was thoroughly disappointed the when I went recently. They seem to have new staff which are unfriendly and give small amounts of food. My friend I was with ordered a large burger and seemed to get a pathetic amount of meat given that we had paid more for a large. I ordered a mixed vegetarian and was disappointed to initially receive only 2 pieces of falafel before stating the amount received previous times I had been. I will not be going be visiting again after my bad experience in the weekend. I would strongly recommend others going elsewhere as there are plenty of other kebab options in wellington.

This place is very popular, and can sometimes have a bit of a wait during peak food times. I can only speak for the vegetarian options but I've never been disappointed with my kebab/shawarma. They have these delicious things made from zucchini (sorry, no idea what they are called!) that step it up from the basic vege falafel option. Reasonably priced too.

This is a very popular place and there are often lines outside. They have the usual assortment of Kebabs, falafels etc but also some interesting variations like a kebab pizza! The prices are about average and so is the service.

The décor is pretty cool and gives a "genuine" feel to the place, with cushions and photos.

Yum as kebabs here, feels like you're walking into a middle eastern kebab shop. Delicious kebabs and definitely recommend to anyone. The magical chicken is ok but not out of this world. Definitely coming back here when I'm back in Wellington central.

Perfect late night food joint. I could not stop thinking about this kebab after I finished it - it was so so tasty and filling. Do yourself a favour and get the supreme.

Michael said this place was good and he wasn't lying. The kebabs were spot on!
I had a lamb kebab and Michael had a chicken kebab. We made it a combo with their delicious fries and super tasty garlic bread.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. They took our order with a smile and our food arrived promptly. We sat in to eat. The place was clean and tidy with the staff clearing plates and litter regularly.
I can definitely see why they've won so many awards. If you'd like something tasty, quick and casual then this is the place to stop in. I'd definitely go back for more!

Due to our regular (Cafe Laz) being closed on Sunday, we thought we would try or old favourite, Abrakebabra. This used to be our go to when we worked close but while it was ok this time, it wasn't like it used to be. The meat was really salty and I think it just sits around in oil cause it was really really oily. Its ok, I would probably try a different spot in the city next time, a short walk and there are many choices. Contrary to some other reviews, the guy behind the counter was nice enough, listened and delivered as requested, so service was fine. We had three large lamb kebabs (one cut in half for the kids) all with Garlic Yoghurt, one with Hot Chilli, Two with Jalapeno's and one had a bit of Tzaziki.

Terrible service, this is the second time I have been denied having shish kebab. If they can not serve this dish why would they put it in their menu?!

I love the food. Best kebabs and similar in wellington.

But the customer service is a mixed bag. Sometimes its good. Sometimes its pretty awful. Like today I went in and ordered an Italian pizza. The guy immediately starts making a kebab.
So I re iterate that I was ordering an Italian pizza. Then a bit later on one of the staff comes to my table and asks if I want the Pide to have here or take away. I explained that I did not order Pide, I ordered the Italian Pizza.
He acknoweldges this and away he goes. Then a while later, someone brings me out a Pide. I explain again that I ordered the Italian pizza, not the Pide. He got all huffy and stormed off waving his arms. Then another guy comes out. I explained to him that I ordered the Italian pizza not the Pide.
So he gets all exasperated. People get orders wrong sometimes, that happens. But the number of times I had to reiterate it- really no excuse. But what really upset me about the whole thing is that they would not take the wrong order away and make what I actually ordered. It was their mistake, but I was expected to darn well shut up and eat what I was given.
Despite my love of their kebabs and other products, this experience has seriously caused me to reconsider whether I will ever go back there.

One of the few kebab joints I have been in wellington. I liked their large chicken kebab with extra jalapeños and garlic yoghurt sauce. It was a treat to my taste buds.

This place has gone badly downhill in recent months. Our favourite is the shish meal .... thats when we can get it !!! The last 3 times we have ordered this meal, staff have advised it is not available due to under staffing issues. Very unprofessional, we thought we would give them one last chance tonight and were given same old story so we ordered the Souvlaki and guess what? Yes this was also unavailable lol we settled for a wrap and got the heck out of there.
Jo
This used to be our favourite kebab place in Wellington. The quality has dropped and the atmosphere is sterile instead of cosy like it used to be. The new souvlakis are shocking value compared to the normal kebabs. Several dollars more and much smaller. My parents ordered these and the meat was tough and dry. When they raised this the staff didn't want to know. No replacement or refund. We will be going elsewhere from now on.
Courtney
Never fails to please. Good value for money. Staff are always very good and it is in the perfect spot for lunch!

This use to be the best Kebab place in Wellington.

there are now new owners and I find the quality of the food has gone down hill very quickly, even though most of the staff are the same.

The bread for the burgers use to be my faviourite and I would often get the Hummus bread. but the last time i got one of these the bread wasnt fresh and the hummus didnt taste right (& there wasnt much hummus on it like usual).

I dont think I will be going here anymore, which is sad as I have always told people that it is the best and it was for sometime.

Good for a filling, healthy and tasty meal. Been here often including first date with hubby.

pretty good, but cuba kebab is better
Strega
Great place. Their baklava is the best in Wellington. Their pizzas make a great cheap lunch and their kebabs are very good as well. The bread they bake is also excellent.

pretty good Turkish takeaways. meals are fairly generous although sizes do seem to vary from time to time. One of Wellingtons better places for a quick feed and the best Turkish takeaway in town.
