Review Sweet Release - Wellington

Elna Baguya
It's cozy. If you want to hang out, this place is great, with family or friends, and kids as well, they have board games and nice food. I tried their fried tofu, chocolate with coconut milk and cinnamon buns. Yummy. Prices range from 3.5 - 6.5 base on what I ordered. I will come back to this place again.

I ordered triple chocolate cakes from sweet release for my birthday. They were absolutely delicious, some of the best cake I've eaten in my life, and everyone at the party decided they had to have a slice, many even coming for seconds. They were so great for people with allergies or vegetarian friends which was a nice surprise for many people. My friends and family agreed they were absolutely delicious and so well presented. They made me feel so special and so happy, ordering, picking up and transporting was also a breeze. I couldn't be happier with my experience. (note cake topper numbers were added by me)

The food in this place is honestly the best vegan food in Wellington . Everytime I eat there it just fills a spot in my soul . Highly recommend the loaded fries with not chicken also the Reuben sandwich is phenomenal .

We've just moved to Wellington and were so happy to find this lovely vegan cafe! The coffee was on point (with a tasty little brownie bite on the side), the mains were great and the cake some of the best we've ever had. Thanks for your welcoming and friendly service, we can't wait to come back again :)

I got the BBQ bowl, added some pepper, and oh my life, it was sensational for $18. Well worth it. Great atmosphere and seating and toys for kids too.

This place has come a long way from humble sweet shop beginnings to a full cafe experience with all their staff paid a living wage. It just keeps coming out with great new daring and innovative vegan eats, like their uniquely juicy not steak, which you won't experience anywhere else! The list of incredible things that have come out of this place are too long for a short review, and the ones that are no longer on the menu, I'll sorely miss.

Absolutely delicious! My favorite vegan restaurant in Wellington. We had the rib burger on fry bread, mac n cheese (with added ribs), pancit, cupcakes, cookies and the oreo cinnamon rolls were soooooo good.

The happiest place on earth šŸ„ŗ Sweet Release has never ever let me down, the staff are always so kind and the atmosphere of the cafe is wonderful. The chocolate brownies in the cabinet are my go-to and whenever I go I get as many cabinet treats as I think I can eat. But itā€™s not just the treats! Every menu item I have had has been mind blowing, the mac nā€™ cheese, bagels and the nachos are all some of the best vegan meals I have ever had. My non-vegan friends also love Sweet Release, it really is for everyone. Sweet Release value sustainability, you can use your own cup and containers, and if you do need to use their takeaway containers theyā€™re not plastic. They also have pay it forward meals and free period products in the bathrooms, you can really tell they value their customers and will do anything to help people in need. (old photos but still relevant)

One of the best plant based cafes I have ever been to in New Zealand! Delicious is the only word I need.

Sweet Release is a treasure, both for vegans and for lovers of good food made by great people. During a weekend stay in Wellington, we had to visit each dayā€“it's that good. It also pays a living wage and supports the local community.

Gorgeous Cafe with incredible comfort food & delicious beverages! Beautiful helpful staff with lovely vibes, I highly recommend this eatery! Veronica served me & she was a ray of sunshine, so friendly & kind :) The thickshakes & donuts are honestly insane & the fake eggs were just like eggs, so happy I visited - definitely a Sweet Release!! Best Vegan Cafe I've visited in Wellington and I adored the personal touch with the story painted on the Cafe wall, will be back for sure!

The cake I ordered was spectacular. It was so delicious and great value. I'll be ordering again.

Ordered a cookies and cream cake for pick-up and unfortunately it wasn't ready due to an admin mistake. They hand delivered it to my office later that arvo which was fantastic and to top it off the cake was a hit and delicious. Will order again!

This vegan only cafe is great - it's got a friendly relaxed vibe, with great staff and a simple but delicious menu. I ordered the BLT (with housemade facon) and peanut butter chocolate brownie. Both were delicious and it was quiet enough for me to get some work done too!

Not just a cake shop, this gem of a place can serve you some epic cuisine while you chill out on the comfortable couches. Everything on the menu is amazing, but for something truly special check out the specials. I did and it was legendary as it was the Pulled Pork and Banana Bagel. This intriguing dish had the perfect balance of sauce and pulled pork as well as a subtle sweetness that can only come from a chefs expert hand. Service was helpful, quick and efficient, while the cafe itself was clean and tidy. There is a nice urban casualness to the place. By all means check out the sweet cakes, they are fantastic, but for a more epic experience do stay and enjoy the whole menu. This could be your next favourite place.

Iā€™ve been to Sweet Release many times over the last few years and so I thought Iā€™d better spread the word and not just keep this place to myself! Not that itā€™s much of a secret; Sweet Release has been a mainstay of Willis Street for years now, growing from strength to strength and the organisers behind monthly Wellington market, The Vegan Vault. Iā€™m dairy-free and my partner is vegetarian. Itā€™s so hard to find a place that makes treats without dairy. It also helps that these treats are frickinā€™ delicious. Oh, that sweet, sweet marshmallow fluff. The peanut butter brownies, Hershey's chocolate pie and lemon meringue are just a few of our favourites. Since going dairy-free I thought Iā€™d have to give up thickshakes for good. No longer! I'm not a big vege eater myself but they've just started putting out frozen savoury pies which you can take home and cook for tea. The chilli cheese pie was superb. No dairy! No meat! Weā€™ve been to a few of the baking classes and learned some valuable tips and recipes for baking vegan at home. Of course, itā€™s never as easy as it looks! For my 30th birthday, Sweet Release made one of their signature triple chocolate cakes. It was soooo good, so moist and demolished in seconds. The crew are always super friendly and helpful. The menu often changes and new treats are added constantly which always keeps things fresh. Reducing waste is important to me and the team offer a 50c discount if you bring in your own coffee cup or container. Top tip: keep an eye out for the weekly specials where they bring something fun to the table. So thatā€™s Sweet Release. Whether youā€™re vegan or just an odd couple like my partner and me, youā€™re bound to find something you love.

So so good. I had the BBQ bowl with the faux ribs and the cinnamon roll for dessert. Canā€™t wait to go back.

I always come here to get something for my daughter.
They have very nice slices for dessert and they are reasonably priced.
Very friendly staff and they are always informative.
A Vegans Paradise

Finally got to this vegan haven and I can't wait to go back to try everything on the menu! Yum nachos, salmon and cream cheeze bagel, coffee and banofee pie. Kids loved macaroni no idea it wasn't dairy. Peeps are awesome, love this place, couldn't fault a thing

I love the milkshakes here. They have a good range of interesting flavours. I really enjoy the Snickers (Caramel and nut) Shake and the Jelly Tip (Chocolate and raspberry) Shake. The milkshakes are made with a good ice-cream and natural ingredients. The shakes are always nice and thick. I've tried one or two other flavours that were also great and would like to try more.
I've also tried the cookies and brownies but never the coffee which I may have to try sometime.
The service is superb and the people working there are very friendly.
Highly recommended.

As a gluten-intolerant vegan, this place was a dream come true! The first thing I noticed when looking at the menu was that I had more than one option, something thatā€™s quite a novelty. I chose the very modestly-priced mushroom and tofu stroganoff with mashed potatoes, a banoffee pie and a coconut flat white. Everything was delicious and exceeded my expectations. I would also say that the sizes were ideal, neither wastefully large or too small. Iā€™ll definitely be back the next time Iā€™m passing through Wellington.

Amazing food. Great service and the owner is awesome. Our food was great and came out quickly. Can't wait to see how this business expands in the future. Awesome business idea, love that this is a cruelty free vegan place to eat

Sweet Release is definitely one of my favourite places in Wellington. Ā It's so wonderful to be able to purchase delicious vegan food, especially their wonderful desserts. Ā There always seems to be something new on the menu.

THANKYOU SO MUCH .... Cust Service was polite , friendly and even though we arrived half an hour before close they still accomodated. We had Vegan Nachos , 2 Servings of Vegan Dumplings and Vegan Sweet Treats all do yummy. My favourite by far was the Nachos , it was a humble portion size but sooooo tasty . Been looking for a Tasty Vegan Nachos for a while as I dont eat beef and my partner is Vegan and havent found one in Auckland where we reside. THANKYOU TEAM šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Heard about the milkshakes so had to give them a go! Lots of different choices that can suit all tastebuds. Milkshake tastes pretty much exactly what you would expect, which can be a positive and a negative, but overall really tasty! Awesome and friendly service, super helpful too. Only criticism is there isn't much seating at all. A little tricky to find, but totally worth it!

Sweet Release is definitely one of my favourite spots in Wellington! The menu is always evolving and is a great opportunity for vegans and non-vegans to enjoy delicious sweets.

A good opportunity to improve would be to have clearer labelling on cabinet food to improve efficiency at the counter.

Beautiful place with beautiful food and beautiful people. Highly recommend to all. Lovely vegan options, with a wide range of sweet and savory and very decently priced aswell. :)

Love the vegan chilli and cheese pie, looking forward to trying their other treats. Standard good Wellington coffee. Their one down point is that it has very limited seating, it is more designed to be a takeaway shop from the looks of it.

Great service and cute little spot! Milkshakes are the business. Yum yum yum! Also I love the comic book aesthetic inside. Great snack spot.

Had the sesame ball filled with some coconut.. I'm not a big fan as It's not sweet enough for me, but my malaysian Co - worker loved it so I reckon this is a nice place to get Asian desserts. They have a few things going on, so let's give it another try !

After having dinner at the food court, a little take home treat was in order. I popped over to Sweet Release.

This is an interesting place. I was speaking to the assistant/owner who explained what they do.

They experiment with merging different sweets and deserts together, such as the kitkat brownie. The also make vegan products and hold free cooking/baking classes for people with illnesses (not entirely sure of the details around this but it sounded great).

I got a kitkat brownie and a salted caramel donut ($8.30 for both).

The kitkat brownie was tasty. It really worked. The donut had a salted caramel center plus a small pottle of extra salted caramel to pour over the top.

Both very enjoyable treats.

I have been wanting to check out Sweet Release for quite a while now, and lets just say that I wish I had sooner.Ā
I had a piece of their Salted Caramel Brownie with extra Salted Caramel sauce. Just word to describe it.... YUM!Ā
Kristine is so so lovely too.Ā
I will definitely be back next time I'm over that side of town.

The owner is a very friendly lady! I love their sweets, they have really interesting and delicious stuff like peanut butter cheesecake and this thing called inception cookies (a cookie within a cookie). Service is great, the owner seems to be an awesome person too, I saw that she was offering free baking classes for people with illnesses. Love it!

Went here to try the salted caramel flat white as I had heard friends rave about it; I wasn't disappointed. Service was fast, and the guy behind the counter was friendly and he brought out samples of their sweet treats for us to try (both hubby and I are gf). Will definitely go back

The treats from here are difficult to beat! Ā We love Ā them so much we made a Salted Caramel Rum Milkshake for the current menu and served it with a cookie made by Krissy just for us ~ Thank you! Love your work!... and your food
