Review Bethel Woods - Wellington

They changed whole menu from today! Burgers were amazing!! We got beef and chicken burgers and one of the best burgers ever 😋 Chips were little bit soggy and didn't match expectation, but I definitely want to try more options.

Its a very cozy place with very good ambience. The whole setup is good with lots of color. The fire is lit at the centre with drums on the top hanging, which all adds up to the ambience. The pulled pork sub, butter chicken burger and the smoked salmon with mac and cheese are really good with lots of fries.

Great all round. Have been here a few times for both after work drinks and a breakfast meal, both are awesome. Good range of alcohol which is ideal and breakfast was absolutely stunning. Staff are absolutely awesome and so friendly and accommodating. Cannot recommend the croque Monsieur enough it was absolutely gorgeous

Tuesday is Trivia Night FYI. Didn't advertise this that we saw. Didn't really enrich the experience. Had cple of dark beers. Milky Stout. They were yum. Nachos were good, would have been great if the cast iron pan was sizzling. Ours were luke warm but tasty. Totally recommend the sliders, doubt they could be improved upon. Chips were average. Vibe was good. Warm place, friendly service.

We went to BW’s for a work Christmas function and it exceeded all our expectations. The staff were brilliant, they were friendly and attentive. The platters and plates of food were delicious and the beer selection was up to the BW’s usual high standards. If you get a chance to visit here, take it!! Highly recommend!

Went here with a group from work Thursday afternoon. The place was packed which isnt suprising for a Thursday afternoon. The staff were very busy due to the place being full. Regardless, our food arrived pretty quick after we had ordered. The food was amazing! I ordered the brisket burger which was honestly do good. Everyone else really enjoyed their food. Great selection of beers and wine too. Would recommend booking a table in advance if your coming with a group. Will definitely come again.

Great little bar. Good atmosphere - though I’m sure I was the only non-government worker in the place! There was a bit of muck around at the end when they lost our bill in their system, and made us wait around while they chased it down rather than just ringing it up again.

What can I say but Terrific. Atmosphere was enjoyable and child friendly as we took our 13yr old son in. Yes alcohol is served but we don’t drink alcohol and didn’t feel uncomfortable. The food is top quality and service is exceptional

Great selection of beers on tap, ranging from your typical lager to IPA's, pilsner etc. I was there on a Monday and they were running a special where you could get a burger and a beer (specific ones) for $25 which is a pretty good deal considering the burgers are usually that alone. Staff was nice and the atmosphere was good.

Great place! If you're a baby boomer you'll love this place. It will bring back memories of your teenage years! The food is fantastic, staff are friendly, and the coffee will give you the lift your after to start your day. I'll be back.

Always good here, great variety of beers on tap. Good pub food right in the heart of the city. Rooftop bar is a treat!

Enjoyed dining with my friends here.We were sitting on bar table in front of kitchen and could see all the good food made in front of us..

Burgers were pretty amazing. Friendly staff with awesome service... Downsides Macaroni Bites were super bland and lacked flavour... Bethel Woods is another restaurant who sees it fit to charge the world for a meal and also a credit card surcharge... All in all I'd still recommend it as a great place for a burger.

Burger was great. The music a tad too loud.

We had our Christmas lunch here on Friday. It was amazing ... everything was perfect. The platters were delicious and the service was great. The staff went out of their way to make and welcome and spoiled rotten :)

Food was so tasty and very good value for money. They were doing a quiz night when we were there which was fun to join in on. Customer service still needs some work though.

16 taps of beer, wine, cocktails. Great venue with a buzzing atmosphere. Chicken burger was great. Reuben also very good but not of the teir of some auckland ones. Garlic bread soggy which is all good if you like it that way. The kumura chips are a must. I tried them a year ago and havnt seen them anywhere since. I want a bag

Such a great addition on the Terrace, Bethel Wood is an awesome place to catch up with colleagues while chomping down on some gastro pub meals. Guttered that I forgot to visit the rooftop bar, nevertheless my overall experience at Bethel Wood was fantastic.

Lively atmosphere since it was pub quiz night, I came here with my colleagues and we ordered the pull pork poutine, Reuben sandwich, pulled pork sub, crispy chicken wings and spicy chicken wings. In terms of the size for each dish, I would that its pub industry standard. Favorites would be the crispy fried chicken nibbles and the sub. The only difference between the spicy and the original is that the spicy sauce for the original is coated on. The sub with the melted cheese and pork was scrumptious. Reuben was disappointing because of the lack of filling and the poutine was okay ( maybe we had ordered too much pork, but we felt that the pork taste got rather bland).

Overall though I enjoyed my experience, the food wasn’t bad and was decent. A great place to consider if you’re catching up with people.

Showstopper: Fried chicken were freshly fried, which meant it was crisp and flavorsome. The combination of pulled pork and cheese is always a winner.

Overall Grade: B

This place is always busy. Cool atmosphere and funky decor - went for lunch and had the vegeful burger which comes with fries- was delicious. The burger has a lovely chickpea patty and is full of flavour - was Washed down with a tuatara iti đŸ‘ŒđŸœ. Pricing standard for that part of welly. Def check this pl out - it is a fantastic spot.

Having had been to Killen's BBQ in Houston TX just a couple of months before coming here, unfortunately this place didn't come close to true American BBQ. Service was good though and good selection of ales and lagers. Nice ambience and good for a social catch-up

A nice and cozy cafe. Partner had the waffles and I decided to get poached eggs on toast with sides. Food was cooked well and poached eggs were cooked perfectly. So disappointed they'd ran out of hashbrowns haha (there was a valid reason why they did). I thought the coffee was average, I ordered an Americano and it came half full and wasn't hot enough. The waitress was very nice and super friendly.

Edit: Came again and the coffee was alot better. Finally tasted their hashbrowns which were good (one slightly over cooked, see photo three). Poached eggs were slightly under cooked.

Food was good, can recommend the Kevin Bacon Burger for pork lovers.

However when I asked for a bottle of water for the table the waitress reluctantly brought over a half filled bottle. She then topped up our glasses and started to walk off so I repeated the request that we would like a full bottle for the table. The waitress then slammed, the now 1/4 full bottle on the table gave me a death stare, sighed and went to get another. When back she snatched the 1/4 bottle as I extended it to her.

When paying for our food she behaved in a snide over the top manner.

Would probably only go for after work beers in future.

Tonight (22/12/2017) we experienced a frankly unbelievable service at Bethel Woods. We ordered a $12 beer, were served a $5 beer, and then - after complaining - a member of staff approached and proceeded to humiliate the person who complained in front of their entire friend group. Genuinely astonishing stuff. Please boycott this appalling establishment.

Went for the WOAP burger which was the L&P marinated chargrilled chicken with smoked kƫmara purée, parsnip crisps and grilled chorizo and corn salsa, with shoestring fries. I ordered it without the chorizo due to allergies and was disappointed to find aioli on the burger when it was bought out because it wasn't listed as an ingredient and I'm allergic to it so I had to send it back and wait while my friends started eating their burgers. However, they were quick to bring me a new burger sans aioli and it tasted good.

Colourful and quirky place with a nice relaxed atmosphere. We sat right next to the fire place. Had their WOAP burger and fries which was good. The chorizo in it was the best part.
UnCovered Oz
Had the awesome pulled smoked chicken with fries cheese and curry sauce here. So good. Definitely be going back to this one, but will avoid the Monday night trivia next time.

Cute little shack. Drinks were served on point and the food orders. Omg what to say. Their meat was just legit and so tasty. Fresh quality food with good drinks too! Great atmosphere and live music!

What a great place!!! The decor is excellent and the atmosphere is warm and very lively. They play great music as well which contributes to the atmosphere. The selection of beers is almost overwhelming and I enjoyed a couple of pints of Good George Pilsner, definitely a favourite of mine. The service was top notch and I didn't wait for anyhthing.

I had the spicy wing as a starter and the only criticism I have is that it could be more spicy and maybe grilled a little longer. They had the steak special and it was just the way I liked it, a nice sirloin, chips and a salad with some gravy. It was cooked really well and very tasty.

I had to go back the following day for lunch and it was quite busy during lunch, but a good busy. They had different staff working, but the service was just as good. I had the pulled pork poutine with chips, gravy cheese and sour cream. It was a delightful dish for a lunch, I would have liked a little more pork with the chips though.

This is a great place and I will visit it every time I am in Wellington.

Pub Grub.

Standard bub fare and a great selection of beers too go along with it.

Emphasis here is on MEAT and lots of it. Also a good selection for the not so carnivorous.

Excellent from start to finish. Great service from friendly knowledgable staff. We had a selection of the tapas and everything was tasty and fresh. The platter is well worth it as was the squid. In terms of the wine they have a good selection however they kept running out. Really good atmosphere. Will definitely be back

The bar may be nice and not in a bad location but their food is all but good. Went for the ribs and it seemed they had been reheated from a previous time. This is not a good experience.
They do have some deals going on with cheaper wine which is always good.

Great place! Really nice atmosphere and tasty food. There was live music playing when I went so it was quite loud and hard to have conversation but that aside the food was exactly what I expected and would definitely come back again!

Escaped the office for a bite to eat at Bethel Woods today . We went at about 1pm so it wasn't overcrowded and loud...this also meant timely service. The food was good pub type food with an American twist; I had the smoked lamb shoulder sammie and my colleague had a sloppy Joe type sandwich. On the taste front, my sammie was good - the lamb was tender and the beetroot filling it comes with was different to the norm, but complimented the smoked lamb well. Might be a bit heavy going when ya have to head back to the office and stay awake (!) but ok value at about $20 for the meal and a soft drink.

When the Wine Loft changed to Bethel Woods, I was intrigued to see what they would do. When the renovations were completed I was put off as it looked a bit themey or tacky from the outside. I got the impression it was trying to be too many things. So I avoided the place.

Later, I noticed them advertising craft beer, that was a bonus. It always seems busy in the evenings so it piqued my interest again. When inside the decor is music themed. It's a bit eclectic and busy but actually ok. They've made better use of the space than the Wine Loft with a variety of seating options.

I've popped in a couple of times, once for coffee, the coffee was good, and once to meet a friend for a drink. They have a few craft beers available, including Panhead and Parrotdog as well as wine and cider. I've enjoyed both these visits.

Today was the first time I've eaten there.

I had a casual business lunch organised so I suggested trying Bethel Woods. It was lunchtime so it was quite busy but the staff were attentive and friendly. We ordered lunch and it arrived in 10/15 mins.

We ordered:
* Carolina mustard pulled pork sandwich: fennel slaw & pickled apple sauce: ($15.90)
* Chilli Dog sandwich: smoked bockwurst, sautéed onions, melted cheese & homemade chilli beef brisket ($16.50)
* Louisiana chook breaded smoked chicken burger: streaky bacon, avocado ranch dressing & buffalo sauce. ($19.90)

All meals came with fries.

I had the Chilli Dog. The portion was big, especially for lunch. The fries were hot and crisp. The 'dog' was stodgy but in a good way. Flavoursome and filling. I really enjoyed it. I was definitely full after.

The rest of the party were also impressed with their meals. The chook burger bun was branded with PEACE. That was a fun touch and in keeping with the 60s hippy vibe which is refected across the decor etc.

I judged this place before trying it. Now that I have, I will be back.

PS/ Did you know! - On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, if you order a coffee before 8am, it's half price - and you still get your loyalty card stamped.

Very nice scrambled eggs on toast, only $5.90! Maybe a little heavy on the seasoning, I like to do my own but otherwise delish. Plus mushrooms on the side had a great smokey flavor.

Any place that does low and slow deserves a good mark and Bethal Woods is one of them! Loved there food, I got the pulled pork sandwhich and I am still thinking about it today! Great place

Great place to have a good meal with friends.

The place is absolutely buzzing on a Friday night. We went for a meal and it's very good value. This time I had the sirloin steak and the outside was beautifully charred and nice and pink in the middle. The only criticism is that I would have loved more smoked garlic butter but the accompanying chipotle sauce made up for it. There is a fantastic range of sides to choose from and you can choose two of them. I had the seasoned fries and onion rings which were nice and crisp.

Beer wise - spoilt for choice really. A good selection of local brews. 7-9pm $15 jugs really did the business.
Muffin Mum
We had a voucher to use and decided to go as a family and take Miss Muffin. She is a big meat eater and loves a good rib, this menu made her happy. The ribs did too.

We had the sticky fingers platter for four with the addition of Jalapeño and cheddar croquettes ( i simply had to) and for some odd reason, additional fries ( Mr Muffin's choice).

This was one spectacular platter, I was seriously impressed. We made a very decent dent on it for 3 people. The croquettes are little morsels who will sneak up on me and demand me to go back to enjoy them with one of their many choices of beer.

I'll bite. As an american in Wellington it's pretty hard to find good BBQ, especially when it comes to decent sauces that aren't too sweet and a good juicy brisket. This place honestly blew me away, especially in comparison with their competition in this city.

My partner and I are former captains of a BBQ celebration called "MEAT WEEK", it's basically 8 days of the best BBQ you can find in your city. You eat and judge BBQ for dinner at a different restaurant for 8 consecutive nights and bring all friends and Q lovers along for the ride. We've been captains of MW for San Francisco and London, so we know our way around the Q.

This place let us a try a little bit of everything and honestly folks, it's seriously delicious. The pulled pork was juicy, the sauce was spectacular with a little bite of buffalo in it, the brisket wasn't tough at all-it melted in your mouth, and the mac n' cheese went really well with the buffalo mild sauce on the table. We haven't tried the ribs yet, but we will. I'm always skeptic with ribs, you either do em' right or you fail hard, so we'll see. If I were to highly critique anything here, I would say that the baked beans are a bit too tomato-y for my liking, but so far that's it! They also have a GREAT beer selection. Panhead and pulled pork go together like peanut butter and jelly!

We aren't officially doing Meat Week this year in wellington but we will be going out for some BBQ here to celebrate it going on in the rest of the world! See you soon Bethal Woods!

Bethel Woods has a very cool, very fun vibe. We sat on the rooftop where they have booths and heaters which made it very comfortable. The staff are friendly which is always a plus.

As a table we shared nachos, cheesy garlic bread (basically cheese on toast) and the calamari (the best of the three). I had the sirloin with fries and the garden salad, and all mains come with bread and a pickle (which may not be everyone's cup of tea but I loved!). The sides were ok - I tried some of my partner's onion rings which I wouldn't recommend. I heard good things about the mash though. The steak was out of this world good. The BBQ adds a smokiness which is just wow. I had snickers cheesecake for dessert which was nice but I think I would've enjoyed it more if I wasn't so full from my thick and juicy steak (still drooling).

Overall I'd definitely return. It's nice to have a fun dining destination down this end of town!

TLDR: best steak under $30 in Wellington, sides not quite as good.

Found this little gem on The Terrace - it's recently opened and on a Tuesday night the atmosphere was buzzing with business people out for a post-work drink. Only tried the Tuatara IPI (which was smooth and bitter all at once) but next time I am definitely trying a meat platter because they looked and smelt amazing! The service was great and there's even a bar on the rooftop so you don't have to walk up and down steps with a drink in hand - not to mention the free hats and sunnies they have for borrowing! So quirky!
