Review Satay Village - Wellington

Justin Vazquez
Delicious food and friendly service in a prime location. The food came quickly and was very favorable.

My partner and I enjoyed their vegan Mee Goreng and Char Kuay Teow late one evening! They were very quick and delivered excellently on my ‘hot’ request! The Mee Goreng had a light soy-centric sauce. It was deliciously savoury. The Char Kuay Teow was enjoyable, too. The couple beside us had been coming here for… 27 years!? If I remember the conversation correctly! Mee Goreng: (Vegan) Broccoli, Cauliflower, tofu puffs, sprouts, cabbage, topped with shredded carrot.

Tried & true small establishment. Great service & the owner always remembers patrons' names & previous food orders! Delicious, tasty food.

This place was fairly empty when we got there. Service was quick and the guy was very accommodating to our needs. Everyone's food was great except my wife's. We got the rendeng chicken and it lacked flavor. No salt, spices and sauce was too watery. I'veneverhad rendenglike this...plus it was light yellow? Try other dishes if you're going to this place.

Been going here for better part of 20 years, has been consistently great food this whole time. Favourites are Nasi Goreng and Cajun Noodles!

What divine intervention did Wellington require for such affordable and tasty vegan food to bless this city? Dog bless you Satay Village.

Started coming here as a student, over 15 years ago! The food is amazing and authentic and the staff are so lovely and friendly. Always go here for the best Malaysian in Wellington

Great service, great food. Cosy. Love that the 'regulars' are known, including what they order!
Roman Mortuza
Good for takeaways. Cosy and small place. Customers keep the atmosphere warm!

The food tasted the same as it did 20 years ago. Which just goes to prove you shouldn't change a winning dish, loved it 😍

Amazing restaurant - this is my 20th year of going when in Wellington - still the same great family and service.
Chris Hormann
Reliably great, top service and tasty food
Grant Hook
Great food and service, well priced

First time having Laksa. Was so good! Staff are super friendly too !

It doesn't have the atmosphere of some restaurants but still very cozy and most importantly the food and service is great
Ben Lee
Good cheap eats with near authentic taste of Malay cuisine. They allow small wet soaked foldable bike to be brought into the restaurant

My favorite lamb curry place 😋. Lovely owners and great service. Chicken laksa highly recommended too! 👌

Been here a couple of times lately and just been dissapointed by the food. My laksa lacked that "laksa" flavour and instead just tasted like thin soup with curry powder. My partners rendang was equally disappointing with the meat lacking that tender rendang style and that rendang sauce. Great service but pity about the food.

Good service, insanely quick. Literally about five minutes. Food really nice, and relatively cheap. Would recommend. Only reason it's not a five is due to the lack of ambience.

Food was fantastic! I had the mixed curry laksa which was thick and creamy, with roti which was sweet but not oily like many other places. He had the chicken and vegetable nasi goreng which was perfectly spiced and had lots of chicken and veges. The whole meal was very reasonably priced and thoroughly enjoyable! We will be back!

Went to Satay Village tonight for dinner with choir for Big Sing. The atmosphere was nice, and good for a social event. The food was plentiful, the food and service was great. Just a wonderful experience overall :)

Will definitely go again in the future.

Definitely a "go to" option for good food, especially if time is an issue. Has not disappointed on the several visits we have made dining in and taking away.

Simple Malaysian food. Quick, easy, and friendly; probably my favorite all time restaurant. Try the hot chicken mee goreng.

Amazing food and great guys. The quality of food is excellent, and it is very well priced. Always my first stop whenever I'm in Wellington. I dined regularly here when I lived in the city, and I really miss it! The Chicken Mee Goreng is to die for - easily the best in Wellington.

Went to Satay Village on Sunday. They had great food and service. I didn't even have to ask to get my water refilled. I ordered chicken roti and it was lovely. My compliments to the chef!

My partner and I and our teenage daughter just finished having dinner at Satay Village and the food was delicious! The service was prompt and the food was hot. Thoroughly enjoyed this dining experience and would recommend it to anyone :)

Went to Satay Village on Friday night with 3 other workmates. I ordered the mixed mee goreng which was served promptly and as spicy as I had asked. The plate was also very plentiful.

On the whole we had a very pleasant evening and I will definitely return.

Have been going to satay village for a few years now and have yet to be disappointed, great food, fast friendly service at a great price. Chicken satay sticks are a must have, and the chicken curry with roti and the chicken rendang are among our favourite dishes.

I had been really looking forward to having dinner there. However I was deeply disappointed with the food and the service. I ordered some satay sticks. When they came oil / fat was still dripping from the sticks, which was very off-putting. The chicken in my Chicken Lemak was very very dry. The jasmine tea was so weak that one could barely tell it was jasmine tea.

I wondered if there had been change of ownership or what. Though the price was reasonable the food was just not great. I certainly will not go back again.

My fiance and I had taken the family to Satay Village as he's been there several times in the past and had great food and service experiences. We aren't from Wellington so we were really looking forward to this treat. The prices were not bad however the food was a disappointment. It was not how my partner had remembered and he was very disappointed with the quality. His stir fry was more of a soup! It was drowning in a liquid sauce which was impossible to keep on the plate every time you tried to pick something up. We had asked someone to dump some of the sauce out and to add more spice as it was definitely not 'medium' as requested. They had tossed in some spice and then it was far hotter than we wanted. All of the vegetables were like watties mixed vegetables which were rubbery and pre-frozen. The shrimp in my mothers meal was freezer burnt and the chicken pieces in my meal was rubbery. Hard to believe as we had checked all of the reviews on menu mania and other sites which were all positive. Will not go back.

Um, Vincent (below)

FYI, the restaurant that you're talking about in your review for Satay Village is actually Satay Kingdom that is on Left Bank (with the outdoor seating). Satay Village is awesome and is on Ghuznee Street as well as KK Malaysian. I just thought I'd let you know so that the review was more accurate because I actually like Satay Village more than KK and SK! :)
Jono
quick service, cheap, consistently awesome Malaysian cuisine. I've tried the identical dishes at KK Malaysia and they were no competition.

Getting roti and spring rolls along with my nasi goreng makes it a perfect feast!

TRY IT!

Always amazing, service is unbelievable, and nice and cheap.

Good: Roti Chanai, Chicken and Beef Rendang, Crumbed Pork, and Cajun Noodles with Vegetables.

Bad:It closes over the Christmas break so the staff can rest.

The foods served here are not up to scratch. I have been there twice. First time, I ordered Chicken Rendang, the dish was watery and did not have typical thick gravy that rendang dish supposed to have. Since the restaurant carries the name ‘Satay’, I thought the satay there might be good, but I was wrong again. I ordered chicken satay on my second visit. The chicken was tasteless and the peanut sauce was pitifully way too little.

If you are looking for good or authentic malaysian foods, look elsewhere. KK Malaysia or Kayu Manis is your best bet!

Totally the best in town - two adults and five children fed quickly for $70.00...can't beat that. We go weekly...food is so so good :)
Liz
Great place, cheap and cheerful - value for money. Quick service, even when a busy evening which serves very tasty Malaysian food.
RotiMan
Best Malaysian in town!
Caffeinated Weka
The ultimate in cheap and cheerful. Fantastic meals, excellent value, and super-quick service, even when they are busy. Definitely our favourite Malaysian restaurant.

Best value Malaysian in Wellington, in fact it's the best I've ever tasted. Even better than in Malaysia! Their vege me goreng, chicken rendang and cajun noodles are all to die for. Yum.
