The service is a bit slower then I would like but the food is to die for and the atmosphere makes me want to stay their for longer

The ladies service was excellent and looked happy to serve us. The The Thai food that my partner ordered was amazing, with the right level of spice. Great choice and varieties for vegetarians too. Most certainly visit again. Highly recommended.

Great food and great service, not as spicy as I would have expected which was a little disappointing but it was delicious. Rice was fluffy and tasty. Fast service and prices very reasonable, will be returning.

Great thai restaurant, the green curry is really tasty!

Great option for a Thai takeaway on a Saturday night. I’d recommend the yellow chicken curry (hot) and a side of curry puffs. Normally I like to save half of a curry for the next day but there was no chance with a dish this good. Perfect level of chili!
Peter McFarlane
Really nice food. Quick friendly and efficient service. Good range of drinks including Garage project Tiny XPA no alcohol beer. Greatly appreciated by an ex drinker! Thanks. Only improvement could be more spice!

went there tonight (13-12-22) and can report to all, that the new owners have truly hit the ground running. The Thai we all had to night was hands down, the best ever. Very reasonably priced, delicious tasty food and wonderful cheerful waiting staff. My wife for the first time ever, having asked for fresh chillies, to further spice up her ordered hot prawn veggies, did not need them. The food was cooked to perfection with an authentic taste. Bravo, we will definitely be coming back.
Golsa Moradi
Absolutely delicious and gorgeous Thai dishes. Very kind and warm host. Thank you Nakhon Thai we had a great nights.
Souradeep Gupta
Excellent choice for authentic Thai food, very knowledgeable and helpful staff, highly recommend this place, not too far from the city centre.

Myself and my daughter were in Wellington for the weekend, my very good took us to this restaurant. I'm not a Thai food fan but think this restaurant has changed my mind, I had the beef, vegetables with oyster sauce. Food is fresh, delicious and full of flavor, although the chicken balls weren't the best. I would come here again in the future.

Simply amazing Thai food! What a wonderful dining experience this was. Excellent service with the food coming out so quickly. We tried so many of the dishes and all delivered on taste and quality. The satay chicken and massaman curry being my favourites (Thai green curry and the Mun Tod being close seconds). Everything was so good, fresh and full of flavour it’s hard to select a favourite. If you are in the area or in Wellington you must go!! Amazing Thai food.

Best Thai in wellington. Creamy and so tasty. Great portions and the staff are incredible. BYO if dining in and their takeaways are always super hot and speedy.
mathias larserud
Great food! Best thai in Welly. The larb is fantastic.

I ordered takeaway and it was ok, but definitely not great. Had the vegetarian tom kha, vegetarian pad thai w/no egg, vegetarian panang curry, and vegetarian pad prik sod.

The tom kha was the best of everything I ordered, spicy, sweet, sour, and savory, a combination I always enjoy. My biggest criticism for this soup was the frozen peas and carrots they added. Why do that? Fresh vegetables would have been far better.

The pad thai was just ok. I found it lacked depth of flavor. I couldn't taste any garlic or tamarind. The fried tofu in it, which had soaked up a lot of the sauce, had more of a teriyaki flavor than what I'd expect in pad thai, so that sums up the overall taste profile of this dish. I also noticed they used a styrofoam container. When I looked underneath the noodles at the bottom of the container, I saw that the styrofoam had melted a little from hot noodles being placed in it. Ugh. Not cool.

The panang curry was thin, watery, and too mildly spiced for my taste (bland). After looking at the menu again, I noticed they have two panang curries, one of which is described as being "thick" (the Nakhon Thai Panang). When I ordered over the phone, I just said panang curry, so I guess they assumed I was ordering the watery curry, Gaeng Panang. Had I known this, I would've been more specific that I wanted the thicker curry. Kind of odd they didn't ask, but I should've read the menu more carefully anyway.

The pad prik sod was the biggest disappointment of all. It was mixed vegetables in a salty brown watery sauce with no noticeable traces of garlic or chili. Hard pass on this one.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. On the plus side, the service was good and they got the entire order right, clearly noting what everything was on each container.

Great staff member who took great care of us table of nine and it was really delicious food! Great vibe too I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to experience delicious food in a friendly environment

Hands down best Thai at this price in Wellington. I have tried nearly everything and it has all been spot on. The soup is enough by itself (smaller meal) and is full of meat and veges. Pretty fast food and the guy on the counter is great and wears cool shirts (you’ll see). Good spot for a family night out as it has a relaxed but nice dining area. They are totally the bomb.
Mike B
Without a doubt the best Thai in Wellington. Have eaten here many times over the past 10 years and never fails to hit the spot! Well done guys keep it up
Chris
The best Thai in Wellington, if not NZ! We've been going for years and the food has never been short of excellent. Can't rate highly enough!

It was my first time ordering at Nakhon Thai. Had a Chicken Pad See Ew which was light and flavourful. The order was pretty quick even though they were busy on a Saturday night. Customer service was friendly and I would recommend it to anyone wanting some good Thai food.

Will definitely be coming back 🙃
Bakers Corner
This Thai deserves more than 5 stars!

Been coming here for nearly 5 years and the service has never dropped. They have become a lot more busy which is great for the friendly staff and owner at the restaurant, who have remained the same team since the beginning of Nakhon Thai.

Because many Wellingtonians have discovered how fantastic the Thai food is here, I recommend going in or ordering 40 mins prior to the time you want to pick up on a weekend night, as they are just so popular.

My favourite dish from here is the generic Pad Thai dish, which they cater to my vegan dietary requirements. I seriously love this place and recommend to all foodies. You won't be disappointed here.
Leova
Without a doubt the best Thai food in Wellington. The service is always friendly and the green curry is to die for. I highly recommend for either eat in or take-out.
Ronald Blunt
Reasonable Thai food for not bad prices. I think the standard has dropped here over the past couple of years as was probably at one point the best Thai in Wellington. Still it has good service and it quick so a sensational eat out if you have the kids in tow!
Hope McNabb
Love this place it's one of the best thai restaurants in Wellington. I've tried a number of dishes which never disappoint. When I'm over cooking it is my number one choice for takeaways in Hataitai! The only competition in Wellington to this thai place is in Island Bay.
Team Thomas
I ordered the Pad Kee Mow here and was not impressed. It was very sweet and missed the aniseed of the Basil and balance of flavours. I was served by a waitress that seemed rushed off her feet but I do get that the place was packed. I have been to Thailand a couple of times and eaten at many Thai places through the country (only rated three or four - check my other ratings) and seriously this place, I felt, let me down. I will try another dish and post an additional comment or update my rating based on more than this one experience, but for now, its only as good as a three. I will only give it another go on a different night based on all the other comments and ratings.

This is our favourite thai place to go to. It's so good when we went to Thailand we would always compare this place to resturants in Thailand!! It's that good
Grant Anthony
Thick red curry is the best in town. Super friendly. Service and decent corkage fee. Fruit burst jar when you pay makes this place a regular.
Liz Oconnor
This is a cosy, friendly restaurant. The chicken satays are the best I have had and the Massaman curry very tasty. It was very busy in the restaurant and there were lots of takeaways going out as well but this did not hinder the excellent service. The owner gave us personal attention, he is a very happy person who obviously loves his business and customers. Very reasonably priced. Handy Hataitai location, no worries with parking.
Kelsey Cullen
Delicious! And great staff too!
Bridgit Hawkins
Had a lovely meal, with very friendly service. On a Sunday night it was busy but our order was taken soon and we didn't have to wait long for the entrees. The meals were tasty with out being too spicy, and lots of crisp veges as part of the dishes.

My local Thai takeaways and hands down the best Thai in Wellington. Fantastic friendly service too. Everything is always fresh and flavoursome and the guy at the front counter always has a very genuine smile on his face.
Wallace Tulloch
Discovered these guys when they were in the old Wakefield market. Hands down make the best green curry in wellington although a little sweet.

On the facade, a fairly low-key suburban Thai restaurant.
Upon entry to Nakhon Thai's door, and a 360 peer around inside the place, not much changes the initial impression of the place...
Then orders are taken, and the staff's eyes twinkle as if they stepped off the plane from the "land of the smile" [Thailand] mere moments ago.
The food, impeccable, upon a recent trip to Thailand I only found 2 or 3 curries that were actually upto to my local Thai joint's standard - who can say that!?
I particularly sing the praises of delicious and authentic starters - both "pak tod" and "mon tod" - in terms of mains, I've given all but few ago and have never walked away anything less than totally full, and content.
Highly recommended and a leap-year above any Thai in the city centre. Worth the trip through the tunnel if you're not east-bound.
Laura Atiga
Fantastic Vege Pad Thai (which is what I always order), really great service and very reasonable pricing. I have never eaten it, but the restaurant always seems busy even on weeknights.
Don't go anywhere else for Thai in Wellington!
Peter Hegedus
Excellent Thai dishes from a charming and friendly staff. Ideal for two to run away from the city, but still close to the core. Family occasions would benefit from the place as well.
Takeaway is done within 20 minute, with a glance of the restaurant type serving.
Highly recommended
Alice Bourke
Huge fan - great Thai cuisine, friendly and caring staff - really reasonably priced and all round fantastic. We don't live in Hataitai anymore but will drive the distance for the food!!!! Highly recommend.
Barbara Woods
I have tried Tom Kha Gai at every country I have been to around the world (42 so far - including Thailand) and I have NEVER had Tom Kha Gai that is as good as Aranya makes it. It is to die for.
And the rest of their food is always good too...
Angela Walker
We regularly do takeaways or eat in - so regularly they know our names :-) Best Thai in Wellington in my opinion, and the staff are just lovely. Have tried much of the menu, although mostly go for the stir fries. Highly recommended. Always very busy on a Friday night.
Jess Van Haarlem
Best Thai food in Wellington...by far!!!
They are always consistent at Nakhon Thai and when you go here you know you're going to get authentic Thai that is sooooo delicious every time! Very welcoming with great service if you sit down for a meal and always friendly when you pop in to pick up a take-away! They have a wide range of dishes to suit anyone. I recommend you try Nakhon Thai for yourself and you will see fantastic this little restaurant in Hataitai really is.
Mc
Best Thai in NZ by far! Amazing! Fresh, fragrant and delicious! Tofu was cooked to perfection, small pieces were nice n crispy on outside n chewy on the inside, a vegetarians dream! Red Curry was lovely, rich, creamyand full of flavour.
And good price too!

Was recommended to us so we went here for a friend's birthday. Was shocked and pleased to discover this little gem in Haitaitai.
Excellent food, more than excellent service, it was so good we tipped the waiter and excellent setting. Parking is freely available too. I guarantee if you go here, you won't regret it.
A +++
Fiona Cowan
We had takeaways from here, very well priced for a big meal. Excellent fast, friendly service. Food was beautiful and some of the best we have had in Wellington, will most certainly revisit.
James
As many have said, very friendly service and they offer amazing, authentic flavors. The raving reputation that proceeds them is well-founded.
Charlotte Burton-Bell
Absolutely our favorite place for eating out. Son aged 12 loves the satay with rice and we enjoy sampling all their dishes. Staff always friendly and accommodating. Worth the extra travelling from North Wellington - we were patrons of Aranaya's Place near the Film Archive prior to its closure.
Alan
The best green chicken curry (Thai Hot) in wellington if not New Zealand. The other dishes are pretty good as well and the staff are friendly - just a pity they closed the city branch.
Shannan Mortimer
Wellington is a city hard to hard good Thai, so far we have been to about 8 different Thai restaurants in this city and this is by far the best. They use proper spices and herb, not the pastes you could do the same with at home.
Kate
Our favourite Thai in Welly. YUM! And awesome service.
Dr. Sandipan Ganguly
One of the best Thai I have had in New zealand. Great ambience too. Green curry with squid was awesome, so do the pad thai, tasty, well sautéed, fresh and comes in good quantity. Staff are very friendly and courteous. Loved the place. Thank you.
Patrick Pilcher
Nakhon thai has been our local since it open 2 years ago and about the best testament to its quality is that it is packed full every friday night which is pretty remarkable given it is a suburban restaurant tucked away in Hataitai.

All the usual dishes are available (they do a great thai yellow curry and their pad thai is to die for), but the real standout is the staff who are incredibly obliging and good humoured. Long may they stay that way!
