Review Sprig + Fern Thorndon - Wellington

David White
Wonderful range of craft ales, accompanied by satisfying bar meals. Great atmosphere with a warm welcome for expats and Brits making the long journey to this outpost on the 'other side' of the planet! Even better in good weather to catch the cable car up the hill and walk down to the Sprig through the Botanic Gardens

Great little pub. Unknowingly went in as a tourist on a quiz night. Fun evening and great staff, drinks and atmosphere. Leeds gear teased out a few supporters!

Called in for a quick drink and something to eat. Venue a not that busy so service was excellent. Will return.

My favourite, very friendly pub. Best beer in a real pint glass bestbcalue craft beer on tap in Wellington.

The staff have always been super professional and kind in my visits. It's a nice place and will definitely be visiting again soon with friends! ❤️

English style pub with a cosy front bar and a nice spacious outdoor area. A great range of beers Spring and Fern beers available on tap. Owners were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The bar has a strong local vibe, a great playlist and a good food menu. Bonus that the serve pints and reasonable prices.

A cosy local pub with a generous selection of craft beers on tap. Great pizzas and delicious curly fries for the kids and a range of old school board games for young and not so young. A favourite Winter pop in after a family walk through the Botanical Gardens.

Fantastic local tavern. Felt like I was back in London with live music, cosy setting, and amazing staff. The pair behind the bar last night were top notch. They even asked if we were enjoying ourselves when ordering drinks, and checked that we had a great night, which we did, when we were leaving. Glad we found this spot. Bonus is that they pour Nelson's finest beer too. Check out the fresh hopped beer on tap at the moment as well. There's an unfiltered NZ IPA on tap now that is amazing! Cheers 🍻

Literally an older house remodeled into craftbeer bar, Sprig & Fern presents itself as a more elegant British pub, so much so that even some of the patrons seem to be having very British conversations haha (sorry, can't help but listen sometimes). While it's perfectly neat and clean, I honestly can't really see myself dying to come back here just bc it seems too fancy for my liking with less entertaining things to look at (although, they do have some great NZ craftbeer books available). But the top unique element of S&F is their Buy Your Mate A Beer board, buy them a beer and let them redeem when they come in. Genius.

A not so hidden gem on Tinakori Road. Just a short 10 - 12 minute walk from the Sofitel Hotel on Bolton Street. Try a tasting tray just to get a feel for the beers and ciders on offer. But the pick of the bunch for the ladies... was the 'Grown up Lemonade'. For me, the Porter was a stand out. Grab yourself a fishbite sandwich and some curly fries. Job done. We'll be back for sure.

Amazing service, cute cosy pub. Didn't eat so I can't comment on the food.

Pretty classy, nice outdoor area. Feel like the upstairs area could've been made slightly nicer and more distinguishable. Really liked that it didn't have pokies nor sports tv; nice pub!

The beer is great, the staff are lovely and helpful and the food is amazing. Walked the botanical gardens (which is next door) and then came here, would recommend 10/10

Excellent selection of beers on tap, you can also get refills for at home imbibing or at the Botanic Gardens across the road during summer concerts. A great place to come prior to hitting town and they do a mean pie too. Nice number of board games too if you need a break from drinking!

With so many dark bars in Wellington, the interior of this pub is a selling point. Just get in early as seats are limited. The pub is a place to go for a drink rather than something to eat as the food is pretty average. However, if you are up for a pint and a packet of crisps then this is your place.

Great drinks, Great service from Bree she was absolutely lovely and very attentive 10/10 she deserves a raise!! Best ever I've ever had. Curly fries were excellent and the aioli was ginger licking good!

Ordered a pie and disappointed as it came with no fries, salad or sauce. Most expensive pie ever and not very filling. Owners weren't very friendly and 1 seemed put out having to find a stool to get my beverage of choice that was too high for her to reach. Wouldn't go there for the food again.

Sorry my pic of the curly fries is blurry but I wanted to show the quantity in the bowl ! We went there as they are part of the wellington beer trail so we needed our stamp. The place was nicer than what we expected so we stayed for card game and some fries. Saw some pizzas passing by and not only did they look delicious but they also smelled fantastic. 19 beers and other beverages on tap ! Quite crazy, location is nice if you're near the botanical gardens otherwise it's a hike. They do have a terrace but really small so we could not enjoy it. Will probably go back to try the pizza

Well worth the hike up Bowen St. I tried the lemongrass wheat beer - a great refreshing summer drink - and the ginger thingy at the end of the night. The courtyard is a veeery nice place to relax on a summer evening.

This is a wonderful bar, the décor is simple, modern and clean. The staff are genuinely helpful, friendly & efficient. The range of well kept craft beers is excellent; good choice of wine too! The atmosphere is casual and friendly. There's often interesting entertainment such as punters being invited to share some of their vinyl collection, live music, pub quiz, pub bingo & a great selection of games. The collaboration between Costa Nostra and the Indian restaurant is a great idea; pizzas & curries are both to an excellent standard (cutlery provided). It's all a recipe that really works. Definitely worth a visit!

This cosy place is busy with a relaxed, friendly crowed almost every night of the week, which shows they've got to be doing something right.

Excellent selection of craft beers and a decent wine list too. Food isn't really the main event but what they do have is great. Curly fries are the best I've ever had they can order delivery pizzas from the Italian restaurant down the road and curries on Wednesdays.
Recently they have introduced some gourmet, family pies and the pork and apple cider one was delicious!

Staff are always friendly and efficient and I can't recommend this place enough.

Whilst linked to a chain this has been turned into an excellent 'local' pub by the staff (Michael, Hayley & Louise). Great range of craft beers and a really nice atmosphere. Been in a few times now and seems quite busy.....and unlike some pubs in NZ, life is not based round the TV screen, here it is based around a range of good value craft beers snf friendly staff!

Be aware that it has limited range of food but a bonus is that the Pizzas you order are delivered by the well reviewed Cosa Nostra (30 seconds away!). Does a curry night on Weds but haven't tried it yet.

May be off the beaten track but if you are in Wellington, which is a small place after all this is worth a stroll up the hill beside the Beehive.
