Review Verve Cafe - Wellington

Excellent location for lunch. Good selection of food and coffee. The burger was excellent and the seafood chowder very creamy and tasty. The buttered and toasted bread stick was a nice addition.

Great place for breakfast/lunch during weekdays, plenty of tables, ample space inside, high chair available, access to the terrace. Wide ranging cabinet food selection too if in a hurry.

A great Eggs Benedict for a quick breakfast. The food is much better than the environment and some staff when we visited seemed half asleep. The Mango turmeric smoothie was nice but a bit of an acquired texture.

Spacious inner city cafe located just off Lambton Quay in Wellington's CBD. The cafe has a relaxed and refined atmosphere. They provided good food and drink options. The food is more on the expensive side, but not surprisingly so, given the location. The service was good. I would recommend to others and would be happy to go there again.

Good quality food and speedy service. Would recommend the burgers for lunch if you want to leave feeling full!

My favourite cafe serving excellent coffee to start the day and good value breakfasts. Good place to meet if you want to be heard. Has many loyal customers which says a lot about the friendly staff and quality of food and beverages. The decor is a bit tired but don't let that put you off.

Nice cafe with a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. I had the scrambled eggs on toast which was simple but great; the grain bread tasted like it was made in-house, very nice! Meal also came out extremely quick, less than five minutes wait which is excellent service.

One of the most preferred place for breakfast for me and my son!

Have been here a couple times with twin babies and they are so accommodating. Highly recommended. Very friendly and good coffee. Front of house goes above and beyond.

Have been to this cafe twice in the last week. Enjoyed food both times. Excellent service. Good basic menu. Even though they were quite busy, meal came out very quickly. Good for people in a hurry. Atmosphere is very welcoming. Very pleasant staff.Definately would go back.

This is my go to cafe for lunch, I usually order the same sorts of food depending on the weather. I especially like their hot chocolates, eggs benedict, and their filos. They are always friendly and efficient, their food has always been good. They are willing to make accommodations for food based on preferences, as long as the food wasn't prepared in advance. It's always pretty busy when I'm there, but we rarely struggle to find somewhere to sit, even if it means sharing a long table with other people.

Would recommend! Been here who knows how many times over the last month! Definitely one of my favourite cafes. The atmosphere is nice and it is one of my favourite places to hang out at during lunch breaks. Really encompasses the city food vibe. Prices are reasonable, especially the lasagne with side salad, it is a big meal which restaurants could easily charge for $20 and at verve only $12. Love the photos of the rockstars on the wall! The whole vibe and food and drinks are awesome! Keep up the great work :)

I always really enjoy eating at Verve, the atmosphere is lovely, the food is tasty, and I really appreciate the on-tap, complimentary chilled water. It's not too noisey and the large tables make laptop use comfy and easy if needed. The staff are always friendly and helpful.

Food was really good, had eggs bene and kitchen team smashed it out of the park. One of the front of house team was a little frosty at a relish request to go with a side of sausages though. Not sure why.

Their fries are super yum, the coffee is okay, wish there were more items on the actual menu, mostly cabinet food. We go just for fries, definitely recommend!

The best thing I can say about this is the service is nice. The theme is like retro rock which is kinda cool but doesn't really go with anything (like the menu, furniture, uniform etc.)

The Eggs Benedict was a quite tasteless, I had to add half a shaker of pepper and salt. My colleague ordered the corn fritters which she found "dry and mushy". She didn't want to finish it all and left half the plate. The coffees were ok. I wouldn't rush back there.

Good food and service but poor coffee. Long black looked like dishwater. Told staff it should have a crema and was told that it was macchiato that had that! Replacement not much better.

Have been to Verve before with mixed results, however this time we wanted to use our Entertainment Book voucher. The voucher was declined as they deemed "menu item" not to include cabinet food, which depends purely on the interpretation of "menu item". However we have had an EB for several years and this is the first time cabinet food has not been accepted as a "menu item". Sometimes flexibility is required for the sake of a happy customer. We walked, taking our custom elsewhere and will not return. For the sake of a free bap (and a total spend of approx $30) they lost a customer forever!

Came here with a friend for an afternoon/lunch pick-me-up. Ordered the same as what my friend did which was a vegetarian pumpkin, spinach and feta baked thingy. When they came out hers came first and then mine came - which was not what I ordered and instead was some bacon deep fried thing 🙄 when I eventually got my order it was quite dry and definitely needed chutney or something so I grabbed hot sauce off the table and that was fine.

Overall it was fine but wouldn't return unless starving.

How did this place fly under my radar!? Great service great food and a great place to stop in for lunch! Ordered a panini as I was short on time, delish! Will definitely return for a longer lunch after seeing the food from the kitchen!

Had a chickpea curry salad, taste fantastic, though it's not heated evenly, not a big deal to me cuz I guess there's nothing else they can do but microwave when it got busy. Nice service, very friendly staff. Toilet clean. Just wish this place could be brighter and not that black brown and dark.

Went to VERVE for the advertised 2 for 1 breakfast deal 2 days ago. Signs at every table. We were in the middle of the time slot at 8am and they were not busy at all. But when we ordered we did not get the deal. Others who joined us later (6 of us in total) also did not get the deal and each person was charged full price despite ordering in pairs. The coffee was okay but not great. The atmosphere is confusing, quite cold, dark and empty. Service is poor, no attempt to clear finished plates despite not being busy and staff standing around. The food was not good. Poached eggs on toast consisted on 2 large slabs of bread, barely toasted and no butter/spreads. The eggs were tasteless and over cooked, rubbery and had a strong vinegar taste. Two of us left the food almost untouched and service staff failed to notice. Others were also not impressed.

I know this place from one of my friends when we met there for some chit-chat. The staff are friendly enough to make you feel warm and cozy. The coffee is awesome, from mochaccino to flat white and whatnot. I haven't tried their food yet except some sweet cakes like banana loaf and walnut ginger loaf (decent taste). This has become my regular destination during my shift break. If you keep coming back to this place, the staff will know your order even before you step your feet in :D

My girlfriend received a flyer that said “2 for 1 Breakfast at Verve” (which runs until tomorrow 31th), so today we decided to have breakfast there. We came in at around 8.20 a.m., and it was already busy. That was not an issue as there were a lot of seats available. We sat on booth style seats, and I personally liked the black and brown colour-theme going on.

We both ordered their The Works, it is a little bit different from the menu that is currently posted on their Zomato page. It is now $20.50 not $19.50, not an issue, but just a heads up. That dish also now involves potato rosti as oppose to hash browns.

I have never heard of potato rosti before coming to Verve, but it is now one of my favourite potato-based recipes; it was very savoury and the texture balance was perfect, crispy on the outside, and soft and moist on the inside. There were good portions of bacon. The mushrooms were very herby which I liked. The sausages, which tasted like chorizo, maybe they were, had a nice smokey flavour, but they were not dry, there were juicy. They make a great poached egg. The sour dough was a good compliment to everything on the dish. I would have like to have more than one slice of tomato, but it was not a major issue as everything else on the plate was great. It was very filling, and definitely worth the price. As you can see from the photos, this meal was plated nicely and very appetizing. Their mochaccino was great; I liked the chocolate fish touch.

My girlfriend said this was probably the best big breakfast she has had, and she loves breakfast food.

There was a good service from the staff especially the staff at the counter, she confirmed with the kitchen staff that our order could be made in expected time before she charged us for the meal. We did not expect the meal to be made so quickly, even when it was very busy! It took around 10 minutes; we were definitely satisfied with that.

I feel like I cannot give this review any higher than 4 (for now) even though I was satisfied with everything, just because I would like to spend more time there and try more meals. I will be looking forward to coming there again. I definitely recommend this to café goers and people who enjoy a great breakfast.

Verve Café is a favourite of mine - straightforward, classic food that you'd expect to find in a well-established eatery, great coffee, wide range of sweet treats and savouries in their cabinet, and it's conveniently located in the middle of Lambton Quay. Because of this it is a rendezvous point for many a brunch or lunch catch up between friends.

Recently I was in town for an appointment, so thought I'd treat myself to their delicious french toast, which they tout as being a specialty of theirs, and which I have previously had and enjoyed. That first time, It was beautifully presented, the bread having a golden crust, sweet in the middle, served with crispy-centred bacon, blueberry coulis, and an orange maple syrup that I would probably have by itself in a jug if they served it that way...

This time, unfortunately, was disappointing. While my accompanying flat white was served hot and could not be faulted, the french toast came out room temperature and burnt (how did they manage that?), the bacon was also burnt yet soggy, and the coulis and syrup did not even coat half of one of the pieces of bread. I found myself having to cut off large burnt bits of bread and push them aside on my plate, but to no avail; the flavour of my brunch was... burnt.

I'll continue to come to Verve for the reasons stated in the first sentence above, but will be a little more cautious ordering their french toast. To Verve: consistency is key.

Great cafe in the CBD area. This is generally my local haunting ground for sweet and savoury muffins that changes daily and quiches.

The Verve us to be a CD store which has now been converted to a cafe offering good selection of counterfood and food breakfast and lunch items from the menu.

A popular cafe with the business crowd. If you want to get in with the counterfood for lunch, best you get down at 12pm otherwise most things tend to be sold shortly afterwards.

Check my website for an indepth review.

best cafe on lambton! I work a couple doors down so I am there most days for the last few years. Lots of choice for food and speedy service.
Blair and the team are always on form and make the atmosphere really upbeat :) highly recommended

Great new fit out! I particularly love the Bob Dylan back wall and other new images at the back.

As always I received great food (corn fritters) and coffee (Double shot small flat white). Expectations are always quite high when you see Supreme Coffee is supplied but they did a great job with a strong coffee at the right temperature, just how I asked for it.

Always nice to have clean toilets as well!!

I recommend these guys if you are near Lambton Quay.

Coffee was good. It was great to see the staff were familiar with my order (ristretto long-black with only 30mL of water and served in a demitasse cup).

I ordered the salmon benedict with avocado. It was served very promptly (within 10 minutes) and was of a good standard. The serving size was appropriate and the texture of the Hollandaise sauce commendable. The avocado on the side was very fresh.
The eggs were poached very well, with the salmon also cooked to a good standard.
The only let down to this meal was the temperature it was served at - too cold and the bread was over-toasted.

The ambience and environment of the cafe is also rather odd. The theme is confusing and I'm not quite sure what they're trying to get at.

Overall, it was a good experience, though the flaws I outlined need to be addressed if it wishes to get a four-star rating!

Good space, great coffee, food of a standard range for cafe fare and reasonable prices.

Toilets lovely and clean and service friendly.

Would frequent again.

The food, service and seating at this cafe is fantastic. Particular favourites are the Samosa, Mushroom Bap, coffee slice with a walnut on top. Coffee is really good and they open early in the morn and stay open to quite late arvo. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Only 4 stars unfortunately as the women's toilet never has any soap - really strange and really vital to have soap! Seem to have free wifi too if you ask!

I go here most days. I enjoy the coffee and the food is great (and reasonably priced) - I recommend the caramel oaty slice! I am yet to find a better place in the centre of town. Only downside is that it is pretty popular and sometimes the queue looks really long - when it gets busy they tend to open up two tills though, so the queue can move fairly quickly.

Just a good place to hang out with people, to catch up. There are better places to do so, but it's conveniently placed next to a CD store... Uh, yeah. I'm not entirely sure what they were trying to get at, but hey.

Mediocre coffee, as said before me, the food is good, but again, there are places where you can get better food for less cash.

Only had coffee here. I liked the idea of a hybrid cd store cafe but it was too dark. They served supreme here, which 3 years ago was great, but something has happened and it isn't very good anymore. The barista on at the time, made very weak tasteless coffee.
