Review Cafe Thyme - Wellington

DOTT The Movie
I’ll start with the food in my review. Their food is delicious. I’m not being biased, the food is delicious. It is never cold when it comes out, it is the perfect temperature. The plating is well done, and never messy. I mean you can’t see that from the fries, but you’ll have to take my word for it. Moving into service, top tier service from the cafe. The staff are very friendly, I am a cafe regular, and the staff have memorised my usual. There is a good customer relationship with the staff, if you go regularly, as they will remember your order. The food comes out promptly, and you don’t have to wait in hunger, even on their ultra busy times. Drinks come out so quick, and are always delicious. The atmosphere is lovely, and is actually a renovated cottage that was once in Glendside. It is slightly cramped, but personally I find it to be cozy. They have a warm heater in the main dining area.

Cozy little coffee off Statehighway 1 shortly after Wellington. The coffee shares the same driveway than the plantshop. Has plenty of parking, Gluten-free options.Tasty food and coffee, friendly staff and fast service. Certainly worth the detour and worth it, reasonable prices too. Cheers

Title: A Quintessential Coffee Haven Review: Without question, Cafe Tyme continues to serve up an extraordinary blend of ambiance, delectable food, and exceptional customer service. Nestled in the heart of Churton Park, Wellington, this gem truly encapsulates the charm of New Zealand's café culture. There's an alluring warmth instantly felt upon entry, its convivial atmosphere bolstered by the effervescent staff, always attentive and ready with a smile. The café's heartening layout fosters connection, making it perfect not only for solo coffee aficionados but families and friends seeking a comfortable spot for a gathering. But Cafe Tyme's true magic lies in its culinary prowess. The menu is a thoughtful and creative fusion of local ingredients and international flavours. The coffee, sourced from local roasters, is consistently rich and aromatic, a testament to the skill of their adept baristas. And let's not forget their acclaimed bakery corner. From the delectable pastries to the sublime cakes, every treat is fresh, homemade, and mouth-wateringly delicious. If you're after a must-try, let me personally vouch for their beetroot cake – a delightful surprise for the palate. In summary, Cafe Tyme is more than just a café. It's a vibrant community hub, where quality food, exceptional coffee, and friendly faces combine to create a truly enchanting experience. Five out of five stars and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Highly recommended!

Had their pumpkin soup and it was one of the best I've had in a while, would go back to try more of their offerings!

My partner and I come here a lot as it’s always a great place for breakfast and lunch, plus there is outdoor seating when the sun is shining. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. My partner ordered the bacon and eggs (well done scrambled) and side of hash-browns with a large flat white. I ordered the beef burger with no cheese and a large flat white. The food arrived on a good time and looked delicious. Food was cooked to our liking with our special request catered for. We will be back again!

Had my first visit here recently, I'd heard the cafe and the food were great. The service is great, friendly and fast. The cafe was busy, not packed but bustling, people getting food promptly and the tables then turning over. The coffee is great and the menu was pretty diverse too. I went for the seafood laksa which was fantastic, not overly spicy so if you like it hot hot, you'd best ask. My mum had the kumara salad with chicken. Both of us loved it. Thanks guys we'll be back again soon!

Steak in the beef salad was tender and perfectly coated in the passionfruit vinaigrette! Salmon bene was amazing and the wedges were nice and crispy on the outside but soft in the middle. Perfect brunch spot

Hands down the best cafe in Wellington ! To find good and consistent food is hard, but Thyme cafe definitely delivers! Everything on the menu is great, even the slices and cakes available at the counter. We try to go every weekend even though we live in Central Wellington, it's our go to place.

Don't try laksa! Unless u like to have a super sour laksa😵‍💫 The worst laksa I've had in Wellington...

A gem in the suburbs. Great food off the menu - the laksa in particular is so divine - but it's hard to go wrong. The service is consistently warm and friendly. Nice cosy atmosphere too, with a great outdoor space that is great during summer.

Was our first time here & I loved the ambience of this place and I was impressed with the fast service though it was later in the afternoon and place was packed with people, we had caramel slice, coconut muffin which were both delicious 😋, would have preferred our hot chocolates to be hotter, it was tat bit on the cold side, would like to go back & try their brunch menu one day

I love this cafe! The food is always amazing and the service is good. I’ve had the BLT and the eggs Benedict, both were perfect with generous portions :)

It’s a nice place, parking is a pain to find on a weekend. <br/><br/>The food was average, I tried the quiche.. I found it to be extremely overpriced. <br/><br/>Ig: Wellymunchers

Our favourite place for breakfast and brunch. The Eggs Florintine is consistently superb. Great service with a lovely setting especially on a warm summers morning. Plenty of room outside to enjoy great food and good company.

A cute cafe tucked to the side of a garden center. There was an outside garden seating area where people were having their mid-morning coffees. The staff were cheerful and friendly. We ordered the beef burger and the BLT. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the burger and how juicy the patty was. My wife's BLT came in a 'deconstructed' form (or maybe it was supposed to be an open sandwich). Herbs in the focaccia bread they used for the BLT was quite overpowering for me. They had Rocket Fuel sauce which was a bonus for us :)

Great food and good service. Love the warm fireplace in winter time. And the Laksa is amazing .The usual burger is good too. All in all great neighborhood cafe

Nice hidden coffee place with good parking space. Many locals go there so you are bound to meet your neighbors. If you want to have a quite time you need to avoid here as the place packed up with mothers and children most of time. Coffee is okay and food could be better. . <br/><br/>There are better places but you will need to drive further. Not fantastic nor so bad. Just so so. <br/><br/>For me this place is forgettable.

Went for 1st time as heard a lot abt this cafe from my friends. Sunday late afternoon and our love for coffee so what else we would order.. <br/>We ordered<br/>1) Latte<br/>2) Hot Chocolate<br/>3) Fries <br/><br/>Starting with the ambiance. I really liked the outdoor seating. With so much of sun & beautiful flowers & plants varieties brought so much of positivity in the place. Also place looks so colourful with inviting environment..<br/><br/>Service was fast as our order was simple. We loved fries & hot chocolate but dunno somehow Latte was bit weird in taste. Was weird sour taste added sugar but it made no difference. But overall I had good time and the place was full packed.. <br/><br/>Will definately go back mainly coz of the ambiance..<br/><br/>Cheers !!

Have been here a few times over the years and it hasn't been to bad.  Had breakfast there yesterday and it was disgusting.  Standards in both service and food have dropped.  Should have guessed when there was only one other car there on a Friday.  Went to the garden centre next door today (Saturday) and there was two cars there at lunchtime so I guess it wasn't just an off day.Had scrambled eggs and bacon.  The eggs were like rubber, bacon was not great either.  The guy who took our order didn't seem that interested and got a simple order wrong.  Had to correct him twice.

I absolutely loved it ! <br/>Amazing for breakfast/brunch/lunch/tea!<br/>We ordered the iced mocha(nice), fish and chips (decent), chicken burger (amazing; wonderful filling) and cheese, mushroom omelette (out of the world!; we were given hash brown and fries as sides). <br/>The outdoor area is wonderful because of the variety of flowers. <br/>Great place to have a meal with kids. <br/>I will definitely visit this place again.<br/>PS: portions are pretty big so keep that in mind while ordering

Cafe Thyme. Little gem of a place by the garden centre. Great outdoor seating surrounded by plants and vegetables.<br/><br/>Saturday brunch time was busy. We got a seat outside luckily which was nice. While ordering I noticed the cake cabinet. The offerings looked delicious, although we didn't get anything.<br/><br/>We ordered:<br/>* (Eggs) Benedict ($14.50)<br/>* (Eggs) Florentine ($16.00)<br/>* Bowl of trim flat white ($5.20)<br/>* Soy hot chocolate ($4.80)<br/><br/>Staff friendly, quick service ad meals arrived in fifteen minutes. The meals were large and presentation was good.<br/><br/>We both felt there was too much hollandaise. We would have preferred it to be on the side as it was quite rich and it covered half the meal so you couldn't get away from it. It was a reasonable hollandaise but lacked depth of flavour. The hash brown felt slightly out of place but it worked.<br/><br/>For me, the salmon was ok, I didn't finish it. Wasn't smoky enough and was a little sloppy. May partner would have preferred the bacon to be a bit crispier.<br/><br/>The eggs were perfect and the thick slice of bread was soft.<br/><br/>In short, the meals were nice, but average.<br/><br/>This is a nice, convenient cafe for us. We will go again but I might choose something more familiar next time.

Since moving to the Burbs I have driven passed this cafe a few times. It's always seems busy and today (mid-morning Saturday) was no exception.<br/><br/>I had breakfast; Special Thyme on gluten free bread. Basically fancy scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon and chives on toast. Needed seasoning and a bit less cheese but was good value at $14.<br/><br/>Service was quick given it was busy. Coffee was not offensive.<br/><br/>I think I missed the atmosphere of an inner city cafe but this was decent for those living in the are that want a coffee and cake catch up.

Excellent cafe, reasonably priced. Can get pretty busy and service can occasionally slip at those times, including the decision to stop cooking certain menu items. But usually very friendly service and the laksa is outstanding.

I'm finding it hard to understand why this place doesn't already have a five star rating,  I have visited this place only once and can't wait to go back,  I ordered a latte to drink while i waited for my meal of pancakes.<br/><br/>whilst chatting away to the sound of birds in their outdoor area (surprisingly you don't really hear the road traffic) i look down and notice i have finished my latte, being that i am not much of a coffee drinker this came as a shock to me, and even more of a shock i ordered another one which is more rare for me than hens with teeth.<br/><br/>When our meals came ........ I was blown away,  perhaps i'm not used to cafe's having such a high level of presentation but the first thing i felt compelled to do was take a snapshot of these marvelous creations before me.<br/><br/>The pancakes were light and fluffy like you wouldn't believe the fruit on top was a nice touch too, very pleasing on the eye,  The sauce was still deliciously warm and complimented the pancakes well. <br/><br/>On our way out we felt compelled to purchase some treats from their cabinet,  Carrot cake was my choice,   They plopped it in a takeaway container for me with some yoghurt and a fork it was decadently delicious and the yoghurt really enhanced the flavor of the cake, kind of made it pop in my mouth.<br/><br/>on top of all this,  we received top service, the staff were warm and friendly, for such a high level of service to be delivered at what i perceived to be a quaint little cafe was refreshing to see.  I can't wait to go back :)

We love this place, the flat whites are always fantastic and the breakfast is delicious and generously portioned, especially considering the low price. The best part for our young family about Cafe Thyme is that the outdoor area is fully fenced! With a kid at that awkward age where he won't sit still at the table but doesn't yet know not to run into the carpark/onto the road we very much appreciate having a place to go where he can play and we can relax!

If you didn't know it was there you would probably never find the place. It isn't very well sign-posted and could be mistaken for a residential house or suburban doctor's surgery. The initial impression is that it's part of the nearby garden centre - but it isn't as such. I had the florentine, my hubby the eggs benny.  It was all beautifully presented but somewhat average, although the portion of salmon on my plate was substantial, as was the hubby's bacon. The spinach on my plate was only slightly blanched - perfect! Still bright green but cooked how it should be. The hubby specifically asked for some chips on his plate, and not a bowl, but a bowl was presented regardless - not a major infraction but it wasn't what was requested. We will most likely go back to try the build your own brekkie (which I think is a great idea, as I don't much like hash browns, and the hubby isn't all that partial to tomato and mushrooms - so we always end up swapping with each other). The build your own brekkie starts at $8.50 for eggs how you want them and toast, then you add what you want from spinach, hash browns, tomato, mushrooms, spaghetti or baked beans at $2.50 each and bacon or kransky at $3.50 each. The pancakes also may be a goer.<br/><br/>Here's the hubby's 10 cents worth:<br/><br/>"We visited here wanting something outside the Hutt Valley, and the fact it seemed to be quite popular on here.<br/><br/>I ordered the Eggs Bennie and a mocha, the missus did her usual Florentine and tea.<br/> Drinks arrived and her tea was very weak and my mocha the same; weak and not warm enough to dissolve a satchet or two of sugar. Not a great start. Food soon followed with the missus getting a generous helping of salmon and she raved about her perfectly-cooked spinach. I was gifted an equally pleasing amount of bacon, however all four poached eggs were overcooked and solid and together with the store-bought Hollandaise sauce left the meal as disappointing as the drinks. I could be more understanding if the place was buzzing and the kitchen run off its feet - anyone can drop the ball under pressure, but apart from two other tables in use the place was empty. Scrabbling to end on a positive note the service was okay and the food was nicely presented."

Great parking, inside and out seating. Coffee was good though no menu option for those under 8.   Some menu items are done well while others sub par.  Lacks an identity and good front of house service.  A great go to for coffee and cake.

Very good, have been there so many times. Friendly staff, good food.

I'm a regular at Cafe Thyme and 9 times out of 10 its primo. Staff are friendly, meals are great, made one-site and generous. My only criticism is that the muffins/scones sometimes let them down a bit (often a bit dry) but get them heated and put some butter on and they are good to go. They could also have some more interesting counter fare and should provide some gluten free options but Cafe Thyme is a great place to visit, have a coffee with something to eat and have a chat with friends. In summer you can sit outside under large umbrellas in the large patio area and in winter by the cosy fire. Love it.
The Guppy
this was a cosy place to have lunch and a coffee next to a fire on a cold day. when I visited the place was packed, but I still felt we got good customer service and quite fast turnaround on our orders. I had nachos, and they were really good - a generous portion too. <br/>the coffee was also good.

Had a horrible experience, I ordered an iced mocha which came out warm, the owner told me she made it herself and refused to make it again as it would only be the same. When I asked if it could have a bit more ice cream so it was cold she told me she didn't do a special service for one person. She then accused me of being the person who complained about the same drink 6 months ago. I told her that wasn't me and she said yes someone ordered a drink had one sip and left it on the bench. <br/>Very rude and very bad service.

Cafe Thyme was such a cozy buzzing place on a cold, rainy day in June. We scored the last table, right next to the open fire in the quaint cottage, with views out to the garden courtyard. Lovely atmosphere.<br/><br/>I loved my roast pumpkin salad, which was really yum.<br/><br/>There's room for improvement with the menus. I was really confused by the big menu board above the counter, and the little specials board to the left, AND then we helped ourselves to quite a used-looking paper menu (print some new ones?!). But the freshly prepped food from the menu was good. <br/><br/>Parking was easy. Coffee was good.<br/><br/>It's a good little local suburban cafe. It does what it does well.

We had a pleasant brunch at Cafe Thyme this morning. The gas heater makes for an inviting and cosy atmosphere on a cold day. The menu offers good value for money along with a basic selection of counter food. The eggs Benedict was good with delicious bacon and a crisp hash brown. I was glad the Hollandaise sauce came on the side, as requested. My friend and her daughter shared a large 3-egg omelette. We had a reasonable wait for our meals and our coffees arrived first. Afterwards, we were asked if our cups could be cleared before they were finished, then someone came around asking to collect plates that we were still eating off. Other than being rushed to have our plates cleared (possibly in preparation for the lunch hour), this is a good, basic local cafe.

Mother's day and three generations of Mums went in for a coffee/cuppa. We did not order a meal so I can't comment on the quality of that, but the snack food was just awful. My Mother didn't even eat a quarter of the muffin - it was so dry and hard on the outside (there were no other plain options eg scones). The slice had a fridge taste and there was a bit of plastic stuck in the icing. My small cake didn't taste fresh either. The coffee was ok but the tea was very weak. I have been several times before for a coffee and the place has a very congenial atmosphere however on a previous visit the scone was very dry also. If the cafe prefers to do meals etc then just do that. It was such a disappointment and I'm not going to be in a hurry to go back again.

Good place for a bite to eat. Pricing is average for cafe food. But the meals themselves were great. Also good to get away from the city atmosphere and have a browse next door in the garden centre. Will be back for sure

Fabulous feshly cooked onsite food and very nice surroundings. Good price and great outdoor area which is sadly lacking in Cafe's in and around Johnsonville.
