Review The Realm Tavern And Grill - Wellington

Awesome live music with Funkadelic! Great burgers, pizza and chicken, plus a mac and cheeses for a little one which was delicious đŸ™đŸŒ and super attentive staff!

Best steak ever! My husband and I had the steak, eggs and chips and it was delicious. I wanted my steak a little more cooked up and it was no problem at all...the chef did it with a big smile and added another egg (I had already eaten the two and they were yummy). Great options on the menu and staff obviously happy to be working there. Thanks guys. (we were the first to arrive for dinner so the restaurant was a little cold...I am sure it would warm up as other people arrived).

Came in to support local and try the new menu tonight and it was amazing! My sister and I both loved the food (chicken burger and Mac n Cheese, holy heck) and we received great service while sitting by the big open fire. We really needed a pick me up today, and we got it. So stoked for The Realm to begin its new chapter and they’re off to a great start. Thank you so much, keep it up!

Service is always great here. I really must learn the main hosts name, as he's super friendly and makes it a real pleasure to visit. We often go a bit early to have dinner with the kids so for us the food is always quite quick to be served. Well priced and enjoyable. We shared the lava cake as a treat, and although a bit too runny, was still delicious. Main meals were very enjoyable too. Added bones there are a few screens around showing the current sport, which is nice, not too overbearing. Also a small lay area off the the side for families with toddlers, as well as some seating outside for a nice afternoon drink.

I loved it. Was going to go to the restaurant part but ended up just eating and staying in the bar area so this review is only for the bar. This is just your down the road and very down to earth local but with friendly and warm staff, great burgers, good prices and a good drinks range. I didn't use the restrooms but everything else seemed clean. And great little outdoor spot for some people watching with a ciggie and a drink. Go early to catch sun!

Enjoyed the brekkie this morning, while watching the Springboks vs Ireland game. The Bailey shots and Coffee were delicious at 7:30am - just what we needed🎉🎉 When next visiting Wellington we will be back.

We got ubereats from this place. The food was amazing. Pizza was tasty and not soggy. Wings cooked perfect and fries seasoned great. Priced reasonable as well.

Cozy spot for some good drinks and dinner. The staff were very friendly, and the restaurant out back is nice. They have local tap and usually have weekday specials. The lamb was tender with very creamy mashed potatoes. The fish and chips had the option of being battered or breaded, and the breaded option was nice and crispy.

Come here often as its my favorite spot for brunch. The big breakfast is really good, especially the creamy mushrooms. Also not a bad price

Good food, fantastic staff. Excellent music as part of the wellington jazz festival

Wait staff didn’t come over very inattentive nice atmosphere but ended up leaving over it.

A great feed and friendly service. A good place to go for a couple of beers and a feed. The chicken schnitzel is a huge meal while the salmon is full of flavour. Sorry no pics this time. Will be back.

We dined here for my brothers birthday. We were sat upstairs as it was their weekly Quiz night. We requested a high chair and it was very clean and a great chair for my 5 month old. Service was quick and food was yummy! Only downfall was, though my brother was advised of the quiz night, the quiz master was quite loud so we couldn’t really hear each other :/ but otherwise a great experience!

Good place for a few beers in the sun but would recommend the food
Service in the front bar is great and friendly and laid back
Back bar not so much. Just felt like staff didn't want to be there
The food was ok for a pub but wished we had just stayed in your front bar

It does what you imagine. The staff seem pretty cool. Food offerings standard. Beer offering perplexingly terrible. If you can't offer even a small number of genuine craft beers in Wellington you can't score highly with me. The owners of the one pub in Hataitai are doing the suburb a disservice with this place.

Quiz and 2 pizzas for $25 = 1 good night.

So its not the decor that brings people to the Realm... it isn't the food (though its not bad)... it can't be the quiz (Welly has a lot of quiz night)... it isn't the service (think slow but friendly). I think its the combination of all these things that make for a good night with friends.

There were six of us, and we each ordered a pizza. I am a thin crust girl, but its think crust here. But its pretty tasty and there are sone nice options to choose from.

Greek pizza with olives, sun dried tomatos, artichokes, red peppers and feta is the popular at our table. Its nice and salty with a hint of sweetness.

Next is the steak slam with steak, blue cheese, and basil pesto. I personally would have enjoyed more blue cheese. It is not everyday that something over powers blue cheese, but all I tasted was pesto.

On tap there is a small but sufficient number of beers. I always go for the black.

I will be back again, but only for quiz night...

Miss the realm heaps!! I lived in Hataitai so it was my local. Best dinners and breakfasts, plus a good place to watch the rugby by the fireplace â˜șđŸ”„

These guys are my local and are always a great go to. Dinners are always quality and they do two for ones a couple of nights a week, the quiz night is always a laugh and such a nice vibe within.

They do a awesome little $6 brunch, they even let you get two of them on one plate etc. With $3-4 add ons it's a sure fire way to get a really great feed in when you need it most! (Recovering from the previous nights festivities) Or even just a good place to get a mean brekkie!

They have the bar out front and the dining/bar out the back. Out front the bar is a great place to get amongst the locals who frequent there, playing pool drinking pints. The t.a.b and pokies are there for the gamblers, and outside seating area for the summer nights. They're always showing the games too which is a must for any good pub.

Out back the service is usually very good, food is fantastic and they can actually put a good coffee on too! Any local in the area will tell you that the realm is the place to go within Hataitai for just about anything you wanna do, With it also the only drinking hole in the village we're lucky they hold such high standards.

A personal fave of mine and close to the heart.
I Love Food
Been here a couple of times for breakfast on the weekends. For just $6 you can get eggs, toast, hash brown and bacon and add ons only $2-3! Great brunch (especially when hungover) for such a great price! Never too busy and food comes out within a decent amount of time. Definitely a bit of a hidden gem. Would recommend!

Came here on Wednesday night for 2 for 1 mains. Dining here is like being in a cosy cabin in the woods. With the fire roaring and candle-lit tables, this place has a nice atmosphere. The staff here are really friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, I can't be so complimentary about the food. I ordered the vegetarian lasagne which came with fries and salad. My friend ordered the steak with 3 types of mustard, potato hash and onion rings. The base of my lasagne was completely burnt and inedible. The lasagne was very bland and I couldn't taste any pine nuts or sun-dried tomato. The salad and fries were good. My friend said the steak was really good but she didn't like the accompaniments. I agreed that three types of mustard was slightly excessive. We shared an orange cheesecake for dessert. It was pretty good but not amazing. I thought that the orange flavour was an original choice but that the flavour itself wasn't intense enough. If your going to give me citrus... give me citrus! I would not have been happy at all paying regular prices for these meals. It's a great shame that the food wasn't so good, because this restaurant is doing everything right when it comes to service and decor.

Epic little $6 breakfast menu where you can add extra items for $2-3. Perfect on a Saturday or Sunday morning when you're feeling a little worse for wear. Good sized portions and everything else on the menu seems reasonably priced. Difficult to look past again once you've been and are feeling a cooked breaky.

My family and I came here on Wednesday evening as it was 2 for 1 mains. It was also the first Wednesday of the month so we were lucky enough to have a jazz band playing some really terrific music.

The menu is different now to what's listed above as I ordered the lamb shank. The meat itself was good and I particularly enjoyed the sauce/gravy. I did feel though that something else was needed (maybe some more veges?). The same went for my dad's steak meal. It also seemed like they may have been a bit short staffed as our request for wine glasses took a while to be dealt with.

That said it was busy (2 for 1 + jazz) and we did have a pleasant evening. I'd like to come back to try the chicken schnitzel.

Last Sunday (Fathers Day) a small group of us decided to go to the Realm for their Sunday roast and to celebrate our friends first fathers day. The food was excellent. There were 3 adults and we had roast chicken and roast pork respectively with roast veges. Jessica (aged 11) has the half sized platter and it was absolutely enormous and very much enjoyed by her. Ice cream sundaes to finish off and everyone was happy. The only disappointing part of the evening was the service. There were only 2 staff on that night and they did their very best however they just couldn't keep up with demand. So our meals were slow to arrive and then we had to go up to the bar to order our desserts which took ages to come.

What a fabulous restaurant! I had no idea that the Realm had a restaurant out the back; we made this discovery on Friday night and boy did we have a fantastic night out!!

There was a deal for two for one mains which was a huge bonus! The group I was with had a variety of mains and everyone was happy with their meals
My ‘Surf’n'Turf’ Steak was cooked perfectly!! They also had a very nice selection of wines which managed to please everyone in our group.

The service was fantastic; a lovely man served us, he was very efficient, knowledgeable and friendly!

We will definitely be back again! Thanks for a great night out the Realm!

Brunch is always good. Pizzas are great with a beer watching sport. Service is friendly and fairly priced.

Love this place for brunch :)

Very nice food. Service is ok.

I traveled to this restaurant after reading the good reviews. All I can say is I was dissapointed. Not really what I would consider a family friendly restaurant. Felt more like a pub with a giant TV my kids couldn't stop staring at. Went on a sunday, very limited menu but the biggest dissapointment was the kids food, I have to say frozen pizza, frozen chicken nuggets, frozen chips. You dont need a chef for this. We make homemade pizza and homemade nuggets and cut real chips out of potatoes its not so hard!!! I know you see much of this kids menu around but I cant help wishing someone would make a better effort at healthy interesting kids food. Why would you pay restaurant prices for this. Its not cooking its opening packets and placing in the oven. I'll stay in next sun. The adult meals were ok. The Apple pie also tasted and looked like it came from the freezer section of the supermarket. The red wine was nice!

Awesome food and service with a smile everytime. The kiwianna big boy breakfast is the best value for money anywhere. Highly recommended.

Me and four friends dined at THE REALM in Hataitai last night.

The food was fabulous!!
I ordered the Fish Of The Day mains......it was really tasty and well presented.

My four friends all ordered the Scotch Fillet Steak mains with gravy, french fries, saute mushroom, egg, and mesclun salad .........they looked magnificent and well presented and needless to say ........."SO YUMMY"!!!

The desserts were all so absolutely delicious and free on Mondays when mains were ordered as well.

It was a really enjoyable evening at THE REALM !!!

Louise our waitress was "great"......she was very friendly and made us all felt so welcomed!!!

The food at the Realm is SO DELICIOUS!!!

My wife and I tried it out last Saturday night.

The T-Bone Steak course with saute mushroom, fried eggs and roast vegetables was simply YUMMY!!!

My wife's CHICKEN CARBONARA was equally as YUMMY!!!

The restaurant was nice and warm inside with a big gas fire burning.

And you can watch live sports on the BIG SCREEN while you are eating!!

The meals were excellent value.
Apparently we noticed that they have two mains for the price of one currently on Wednesdays and Fridays!!

The waiter we had that night however seemed rather grumpy and unfriendly. He also spilt my drink as he was placing it on the table and never brothered to return and wipe it up.

Nevertheless, we would have no hestitation in going back to the REALM again some other time.

Too expensive for a local pub style venue.

Weird Wonderful and Delicious!

An experience to remember, locals that I encountered were delightful, funny and entertaining, challenging on occasions but delightful and friendly

Matt the manager and staff are great in all areas, and of course we all know that great staff is a reflection of a great manager, though visiting Wellington again for a few weeks over the Christmas period it was bitter sweet to know that such a charismatic barman such as Dougie had left to pursue greener pastures as his enthusiastic, up, bright, happy to serve demeanor made an obvious difference lifting the energy of 'The Realm' when i was there a year ago Christmas season. However, Asha gorgeous girl that she is has now stepped in to fill Dougies magic shoes, filling them with excellence in her own unique way so thank God for that, 'The Realm' staff are accommodating, kind, friendly and professional creating an excellent balance of hospitality which sadly lacks in a number of venues hence 'The Realm' I have to say is a role model for many venues

The seafood platters which we ordered in abundance provided quantity and quality and beats the Gas works in Miramar hands down where it comes to food, service and atmosphere. For those travelling from over seas or from other towns or cities you must visit and have a drink at the most friendliest, welcoming down to earth charming local venue that Wellington provides in the heart of Hataitai . It's real, genuine, colorful and friendly

You are all fantastic!, Wellingtonians, locals, management and staff don't change a thing, keep being who you are and doing what you do it definitely works! Go The Realm!

I've been to the Realm a number of times, most of which were for drinks after work... which normally include a platter. We've never struggled to get a table, and never waited long for drinks or food. The platters are massive, mostly fried type food - but that's the perfect addition to an after work drink right? I've also tried their pizzas - which I enjoyed. It feels a lot like a pub, the food is pub food... it's a good solid pub.
