Review Hotel Bristol - Wellington

We were looking for steak (lunch) in the city, and chanced upon this upon others recommendations and it's the best decision ever. Main Meals were only $20 and had big portions. We ordered (Medium) 250g steak and it was perfect. Not necessary to add the $2 gravy as it was great enough without it anyway. The southern chicken was amazing as well! Great service and ambience was nice. 😊

Great place for a 21st. Function room worked well, and pool tables a big hit. Food was great, bar staff very friendly and professional, both before and during the function.

We were looking for a place for Sunday lunch and came across Hotel Bristol. We ordered the steak, calamari and halloumi fries. The meals were tasty and reasonable prices. The cocktails on tap were surprisingly good as well.

Thank you again for you and your team for all of your work and efforts yesterday as all went very well and I think that everyone had a great time and enjoyed their meals, and the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere made it fun. Once we got there everything was arranged quickly and efficiently and they all enjoyed themselves. Your organisation in arranging this was much appreciated.

Nice beer selection, friendly staff, prices were okay. They got some arcade machines, billard and darts for ~2$ each. An outside balcony for smokers. An atmosphere worthy of a bar.

Staff were awesome and very welcoming from when I first arrived. Squid was great and cooked well. This definitely showed the skill of the chef in the kitchen. Definitely will be returning at some point

A grand old pub, great service. Had couple of drinks and a few games of pool. Pool tables a bit worn and stained, tables needed a wipe but overall spacious and nice open bright feel.

Beautiful pub with a good selection of beer and wine. Some specific NZ branded beer as well. I liked the ambience, the staff were very friendly and greeted with a smile. I will definitely recommend this place. Gorgeous wait staff as well ;) The portion of snack is perfect for a person as well.

Went here for brunch and the food was really good, set in a beautiful old building with a brilliant atmosphere. Staff were wonderful and very accommodating. Through no fault of theirs, the goody app wasn’t working but they still honoured our discount so big thumbs up to the team and I will be back in the future.

This is a pop institution in Wellington. But it was my first visit in this sports bar. Had a meal special , hotdog and it was really good. Otherwise a traditional pub sports bar with a great variety of on tap beers and more bottled. The menu offers good food.

Their $20 lunch menu is so good! Had the fried chicken, mash, and gravy and it was delicious. My partner had the steak and chips, which was also good. Atmosphere is pretty standard for a british(ish) pub, slightly dirty and dingy which is true to the pub vibe.

Went there for the first time today and absolutely loved the burger!! I had the vegan burger and it was flavorful and filling. The burger comes with fries which is amazing! There was only one vegan burger and I wish there were more vegan/vegetarian options.

Had a 60th here last night and it was really lovely! Staff was helpful, food was good and can highly recommend them!

I had the pleasure of having lunch here today with my MIL and daughter, and was delighted to find this gem on Cuba Street. The venue is gorgeous. The service is outstanding. The food is excellent, and their prices are very, very good!! The 3 of us in our party were shocked that they weren’t heaving with clientele being a Massey graduation day!? Do people not know about this yet? Did we slip through a ripple in the space-time continuum?? Whatever happened — the experience from ‘whoa to go’ was exceptional.. We will be back!

We all enjoyed amazing, good sized meals here. Great value for money. Especially loved the Korean Pork Belly bites.

Although it took a long time to get our meal, you can’t go wrong with 2 for 1 burgers. But I’m still salty about the fact that I was was refused entry on state of origin night 4 years ago because the bouncer thought I was too drunk (which I wasn’t) and would only let me in if I told him my drivers licence number. Pretty sure no one even knows that when they’re sober???? Because I still haven’t memorised it

I only come here for one reason: the $12 steak at lunchtime. They are one of the rare places in Wellington that do a really good, juicy rare medium steak, cooked to perfection!

Wednesday 241 burgers, free pool, $5 handles. Cheap and easy get together. The burgers used to be incredible especially for being only $7 but seems to have gone downhill recently. <br/><br/>Had the chicken, bacon, avo tonight - not too great. <br/>Pork belly the first time I had it 2 years ago was incredible. Give it a shot , can't go wrong for $7-8.

Always come here to watch the rugby. Good to come early if youre after a table on those nights. Standard pub grub but at least the wait for food isnt immense
The Food Snob
I like the Bristol for a very affordable jug of beer in the sun, sitting outside watching Cuba St. Their food specials are very reasonable priced, and the food is staple pub grub. The wine selection is good and the price range of wines is very reasonable. This place isn't fancy and that's what I like about it. I've been here tonnes and had many good times with my husband having a few drinks, and many random fun chats with complete strangers and staff alike. It's all good!

Popped in two weeks ago for a quick retreat when I was in town for work. Well situated along Cuba there and you can't expect Michelin food so I can say the bangers and mash was damn good. Actually for the cost of beverages you can never expect to go into the night cheaply in town but for less than ten dollars for a large jug of whatever I can happily say it was well worth ducking in for.

Came here for the 2 for 1 burger night on a Wednesday - highly recommend as it was quick and a great portion! I had the beef burger with avocado - was impressed with the amount of avocado given, however the beef patty did seem pretty cheapy/processed. Would go for chicken next time!

Friendly service and good food! If you go between 11am and 4pm the lunch specials are very reasonably priced and decent portions. Also a wide selection of tap beer! We will definitely be back!

It was a dreary,  rainy day in Wellington, and my son and I thought it best to take shelter for a bit and try their $12.00 Express Lunch. We both had Aged Sirloin Steak (200 gms) topped with a dollop of garlic butter and served with fries and fresh green salad. It was prepared the way we wanted it -- medium rare, and it was just right -- caramelized on the outside, pink and juicy on the inside. All in all, it was a hearty, satisfying lunch that exceeded my expectations. The restaurant/pub was relatively quiet and about half-full, with a good ambiance. Staff were nice and quick to tidy up the tables as soon as their patrons left. I'd seriously consider going back.

I love their food. Service is fast. Food is the only thing that makes me go there. Staff not so friendly. Overall good. I would definitely recommend this place.

Hotel Bristol is a multi-level English-style pub in Cuba Street. Lunch is a quiet time for this otherwise loud and boisterous bar. There are lots of deals on offer, including 2-4-1 meals on certain days so check out their specials in advance. They are also in the Entertainment Book. There's no table service so you pick a table, share a menu and then order at the bar. I had the crispy chicken salad with bacon, avocado and tomato and creamy dressing on the side. My partner's steak burger with caramelised onions, mushrooms and fries was big but lacking in flavour, bordering on overcooked (steak and burger buns). Not bad but nothing special either. An average pub meal.

One of the most disgraceful meals I have ever had the misfortune to come across. I ordered the chicken burger which came with a tiny sliver of chicken which would have been lucky to have been 2mm thick. It had minimal toppings so I may as well have just eaten a bread roll and saved myself $15.50. Maybe they should put their prices up a few dollars and serve something that the bar staff would be proud of. Embarrassing.

Worst Pub service I've ever had in my life. It was very quiet and it still took them almost an hour to get us a very simple order of two spanish eggs and two chips, chips were soggy with no sauce. The bargirl couldn't remember what drinks we had ordered from the time we ordered them to her pouring the drinks. She had to repour several times before getting us the 2 ciders and 2 pilsners we ordered. Left feeling ripped off and the staff weren't very enjoyable to deal with at all. Would not recommend or return.

Went here for xmas function meals were very sub standard some of our party that ordered steak most of us ask for med rare we got all well done when you pay $27.50 for  a steak you should get it cooked to order plus no dressing on my salad.

We came here on a chilly windy Welly day for a business lunch. Nice and toastie by the open fireplace. I had the vege burittos, of which you get two large ones served with salad. Succulent and flavoursome! Everyone left full and satisfied. Be warned, even the snack menu plates are large - no complaints from me about that. Nice customer service albeit a tiny bit slow, but that's a very minor issue and really just being nitpicky on my side.<br/><br/>And of course, don't forget two-for-one Mondays!!

My husband and I took advantage of the 2 for 1 gourmet burgers on a Wednesday.I wish we had eaten somewhere else!!!!!<br/>Within an hour we both feeling bloated and queasy.Within 4 hours we were vomiting uncontrollably followed by bouts of diarrhoea this lasted all through the night to the early hours of the morning.<br/>Do not eat or drink here!! Food hygiene is obviously not a priority.<br/>(I have only rated 1 because it would not let submit otherwise)

A while ago I gave these clowns a pretty good review. But last time I went in, really crap service. They brought out the wrong order, wouldnt take it back or refund me. The manager was "unavailable" apparently. So I wrote a letter of complaint to be given to the manager. Never heard back. Either it was never given to the manager or the manager ignored it. I followed up with a complaint email. This was ignored.<br/><br/>Seriously, the hell with this place.
FOOD Wars
We took up the opportunity for 2-4-1 meals on Monday. I ordered the half cooked chicken. This was thin and dry which made it unenjoyable to eat, would definately never order again. You can probably tell this by the photo. Hubby had steak, no real complaints there, happy with his meal. Garlic bread is ok, no wow factor and not smothered in garlic flavour. I'd probably dine here again (avoiding the chicken) but only on the 2-4-1 Monday's. The place was a bit untidy as there were chips and scrunched up serviettes on the floor. No table side service, we had to order at the bar. Youve got a view into kichen and chef looked a bit uninterested - so I knew my chicken was going to be dry.

Ok. Average food average service average atmosphere all in all average

My favourite pub in Wellington. Nice cheap weekend brunch especially the $10 jugs on Sundays.

Great for a pint and some chips, meals are average pub food though

I have an allergy to canola oil. The chef really had trouble dealing with this as Canola is the base of their recipes. The only thing available was an omelet which was very tasty. Thank you for you effort.

$10 lunch - ours was amazing, I had the pork loin with mash and salad, so much food for $10, the quality was superb, I would have paid $30 for this as a main anywhere else. My husband had the Chicken pot pie and the flavours where delicious. We will definitely be back. We have tried several $10 lunches in Wellington and this was by far the best.
Catherine
mmmm $10 breakfast is awesome, drinks a little over priced but hey its a bar. Free pool on a wednesday night and special drinks this place has it all
Jenny
I went there for a quick lunch and had Vegetarian Burritos from the $10 lunch menu. Very disappointing. Two tortillas with lumpy tinned tomatoes and a few chopped olives inside, and some barely detectable melted cheese on the outside. No beans, no flavour. The side salad was the best bit.

Great casual atomsphere, with good prices and descent food. OK if you have a kid or two tagging along for an evening meal in Central Wellington. We ate here every night while in Wellington as it provided a comfortable place to go and have a good meal at a good price. Staff were friendly and helpful and I would go again when in Wellington next. If you are an average person or family who wants doesn't want to sit in an up tight place, then go here!
Swizzle Stick
This bar offers everything, great pub grub, great range of beer and a relaxed atmosphere! I highly recommend the Bristol to everyone!
Lance
The atmosphere service and food quality was brilliant, I went in expecting some down to earth well priced food, and left feeling very happy to have found a new home away from home...will recommend to all and be back soon
