Review Cinta Malaysian Kitchen - Wellington

Daniel William
Where else could you get an entree, main, leftovers for the next day, plus corkage for your BYO wine for less than $30? The food is delicious and of pretty high quality, the staff are friendly. Sure, it's not a pretty set-up - but it's simple and honest. And frankly I'd much rather have good food and good prices over good decor. Highly recommend.

The food here is absolutely fantastic. Found this place originally when I was picking up a DoorDash order. Came in on Friday with some of my mates before rush hour and service was prompt. Highly recommend the stir fried noodles and the chicken rice. Makes macro friendly good bulking foods. Portion size is generous. If the waitress from Friday is reading this, I go to WC please hit me up.

Unpretentious Malaysian food. I had the Been Hun, rice noodles with tofu. Big portion sizes and flavorful. My friend had the lamb curry rich they mentioned was one of the best they have ever had. Place was buzzing indicative of it being popular in Wellington.

I came here a few years back and since returning to Wellington, I thought I'd pop in again yesterday (28/12/2022). Got a chicken char kway teow - the highest spiciest level was not a disappointment. Very delicious! I didn't take a photo of the menu this time, but for the CKT, the price is $18 as of this date and the portion makes it well worth it! A few other dishes on the menu are still yet to be tried by me, so maybe next time. Keep up the great work!

The best Malaysian dishes in New Zealand. The chef so generous. The food so good n big portions n so authentic and the price is very reasonable and I willing to travel from Hamilton to Wellington for this restaurant..as a gift n treat for myself. It's worth while!!!

If you haven't been here, you need to! Great place to go with a group, prices are very reasonable and food is consistently good with decent portions. The owners are super lovely, and they go above and beyond to rectify an issue (which are far & few between). Im a regular here and love supporting local. Best Hinanese Chicken Rice & Mee Goreng I've had in Welly. The garlic broccolli, samosa and curry is really good too!! Thanks for making my heart & tummy so happy ♥️

You can enjoy eating delicious Malaysian cuisine at this restaurant. Good size portions of food & nice customer service. We had curry laksa and char kueh teow during lunch time.

Am a Singaporean who tried a few Malaysian/Singaporean dishes around nz. We ordered roasted chicken rice and char kway teow for delivery. The roasted chicken rice was yummy and usually not easy to find as most place has the white hainanese chicken. Chilli was yummy too. The kway teow felt a little too soft and did not have wokhei taste which I was hoping for.

Always nice food love going there. The service is ok Atmosphere is so loud when there not a good place to go on a date 😂

My family and I have been going to Cinta for years and I have never had a bad meal here. Reminds me of dining in Singapore. The Pad Thai is the best in town in my opinion. Thank you.

First time trying it, really good food definitely recommended.

The food, price and portions are all phenomenal, compared to other Malaysian restaurants. Just too bad they're not as busy as the rest of them. I would definitely recommend to anyone. My goto!

Love this spot, we are regular visitors! Char kway teow is our favourite in Wellington. Also love the nasi lemak 😋

This place is a hidden gem - I walked past for years before giving it a chance and now I'm a regular. The owner is so kind and courteous (and welcoming of small children). The food is fresh and delicious, great vegetarian options and an unbeatable lunch special. Huge portions. Love Cinta! Support Wellington's small eateries, we are lucky to have them.

The Hainese Chicken is the best I've ever had...and not just in Wellington. It's a simple restaurant, family run I think, comfy and the service is always great.
Lee Heang
One of my favourite Malay place in Wellington. We always get the Hainanese chicken and rice super tender and yummy. Great value for money.

The curry laksa was fairly average overall. However, the roti was good—great texture and taste. Would give it another try sometime.

My first time here. I am always on the search for a good beef rendang and this place didn’t disappoint. One the best rendangs I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend 👍👍👍

Great location, easy to find. The environment was clean and the service was acceptable. Most dishes are under $15 so the price is quite cheap. We ordered a curry laksa and wat tan ngau hor, unfortunately both taste pretty average. The wat tan ngau hor was a bit too salty, and contained a bit too much of spring onions and ginger.

I LOVED it and MY tummy LOVED it.
Highly Recommended! BE Prepare for 20mins long wait but worth it. Well Done & Thank You.
Last, Bravo to the customer service @ Sunday 20/8/17 / 1:20pm (Asian Skinny Uncle)

We came for my friends birthday looking for cheap food and a byo. To be honest, thoroughly enjoyed the food but was a little spicy for my liking. Points off for atmosphere and toilet facilities. Seats arent the comfiest. Beef Rendang was amazing and would buy again (whilst asking for less spice). Perfect for students looking for cheap group meal whilst drinking cheap wine.

I have been to this place many times now. They make the best hainanese chicken and beef rendang! Today, me and my friend have decided to eat there for dinner. We decided to order fried tofu, beef cashew nuts, and lamb curry and they were delicious! Also, this place is pretty cheap, serving sizes are big, and food always arrive fast! The waitress who served us tonight was very friendly and accomodating the whole time. The only thing I don't like about this restaurant is the atmosphere and you have to go through the kitchen to use the toilet.

Will recommend their phad Thai and Haninanese chicken. Top notch

Place? Okay. A big darker than other places. Only has one waitress so on busy days don't expect a quick clean table straight away. Although they serve customers very well.

This place offers affordable but very tasty food. My fave is definitely the Roasted Hainanese Chicken, we always get it every time we go there!!

Cinta is a cheap and cheerful place to enjoy BYO but unfortunately the food was average. We had an early booking (or so we thought) but when we arrived at 6pm they had no record of our reservation. The restaurant was about 1/3 full so there was no lively atmosphere. I ordered the Gongbao chicken which I was looking forward to and while the sauce was delicious, the chicken tasted as if it had been reheated. My friend enjoyed her roti channai but did not receive the rice that comes with that dish as a main. Turns out they thought she ordered it as an entree hence it did not come with rice. My other friend liked the cashew chicken but the rice that came with that dish and my Gongbao was quite dry.

Great place for BYO, super cheap and cheerful. Food comes out quickly - but all at different times. Only criticism is that if there's a big group of people you will not be able to hear anything, and the bathroom is through the kitchen meaning that it's very slippery and I personally have fallen over which isn't fun. Not great for vegetarians unless you have a rice stir fry dish.

Great place for delicious affordable food! points were taken off by atmosphere and bathroom facilities, but it after all it is a small restaurant. good place for BYO, but not if you're after an intimate dinner date as it can get quite loud, especially on weekends. Friendly and attentive service by staff. We asked for all meals to be extra spicy, and they didn't hold back on the chillies. Chose dishes marked with house specials logo and they did not disappoint. Will definitely go back for more chilli prawns!

Came here for a byo last night! Was looking for a nicer version of Oriental Kingdom that was still affordable. Food was very good value for money and portion sizes were generous. Was nice your usual noisy byo environment which was what we were after!
Food was probably 3/5. Decent tasting and affordable. Nowhere near traditional, but still decently tasty. The highlight was the satay skewers. Would return if wasn't too fussed on food and wanted a fun place to drink.

Absolutely love this place, friendly service, great food AND very reasonable prices. It's one of my favourite places to dine (mind you i'am a very fussy eater). I take all my friends there as well, now they all addicted to it as well.

Cinta has been our favourite Malaysian restaurant since its days at Courtney Place. We continue to dine at Cinta after its relocation to Manners Street. We understand that this family owner operates diner has been offerring Malaysian food in Wellington since the early 90s. The dishes here are less oily (no animal fat is used), reasonably priced (cheap indeed), delicious and served in generous portion. The waitering staff who is normally working alone is efficient and courteous. Strongly recommend: Char Kuey Teow, Hainanese chicken rice (oh, you must try their homemade chilli sauce and sesame oil rice) and Wat Dan beef rice noodle.

Went there with a group of friends for a farewell. Highly recommend the Roasted Hainanese Chicken very delicious and it's super cheap at $13!! only downside is it is a very small restaurant and when it's full it's
very squashed and LOUD I couldn't hear the other people on my table.

Cinta Malaysian is my daughter's favourite place for a quick, tasty yummy meal often before we head to the Movies on Courtney place as its just down the road.

Walking in there for the first time, you wonder maybe what on earth it's going to be like, it's long and skinny and not the flashest place on the block.

But, our food has always been really tasty, the staff we have encountered friendly and it's always busy with people flooding in and out all the time.

They serve quick and the two of us can eat there really fairly cheaply also which is helpful when you are on a budget.

Cinta Malaysian we will be back to see you many more times in future no doubt as you are our go-to place for a quick, low priced easy meal out that tastes good still.

Thanks for having us! x

Love the roasted chicken rice! It makes me full for sure! (might have to wait around 15- 20 mins but i usually do takeaways or ordered it through phone in advance)

Cheap, fast service and a casual atmosphere. Cinta is known for it's cheap menu that helps keep us university students coming back for more. As said before your paying for what you get but it's enjoyable

Cinta was probably the worst dining experience I have had all year. The staff were very subdued, and our food took far long to come out. When going to an asian restaurant on a friday night for a BYO all you really expect is cheap, cheerful and fast service. Though the food was cheap it was far below the standard I expected and no where near as good as other asian byo restaurants in Wellington. My roti bread was dry and my 'mild' curry laksa tasted only of spiciness. On a friday night you think a place like this would anticipate being busy, especially as we booked for our big group days in advance. When I walked through the kitchen to the bathroom I saw that there was only one chef cooking. This was clearly represented in the sporadic delivery of meals. It seemed like the chef would cook one batch of a particular meal at a time, then it would be given to whoever ordered it in the restaurant. This as opposed to actually cooking all the meals for one table together. This meant that my food came out 40 minutes after I ordered, but my friends didn't receive their meals until an hour after that. My friend's green curry had a strange pasty consistency, as if it was water thickened with corn flour. They were clearly very stingy with the coconut milk. A few people in our group were considering walking out without paying. When I proceeded to the counter to pay for my meal, I told the waiter that we were disappointed that we had to wait so long, and asked why they didn't have more staff on a friday night. He told me that they always have that many on a friday and that it was up to the managers not him. There was not attempt at an apology, and he seemed very uninterested. In hindsight I wish I had walked out without paying. Will definitely not be going back to Cinta Malaysia.

Cheap and in edible unfortunately! My beef was too fatty to actually eat and my husbands nasi goreng was made with frozen vege. We didn't expect much more at 13 bucks a pop, but I was hoping to be able to eat it. Disappointed.

"Cheap and cheerful" totally sums Cinta up.

They provide great, friendly service every time. Huge portions that I can never finish but give it a good shot. Their standards and quality are consistent.

My favourite lunchtime treat!

My family and I have been regulars at Cinta for a few years now. My personal favourite is the seafood mee goreng, Hot! Cinta is perfect every single time. Friendly, fast, cheap, great portions, and incredibly delicious! It's one of my favourite restaurants in Wellington and I bring friends here all the time. Love love love!

Great little place. Wonderful food at fantastic prices. We recently moved to Wellington and will certainly be back. It was a great discovery with welcoming surroundings -not flash but definitely a place to go back to with a bottle of wine and friends.

While I can't top 20 years, I can say 14 years.

I too have followed them around, from when they were down Courtenay Place (opposite the BNZ) to where they are now.

I sat on one menu item, Chicken Meegoreng Hot with a piece of Roti. It has not changed in the WHOLE time I've been there, and it's consistently amazing.

I have now stretched out to Pad Thai (even after trying about 10 others in town), they are the best for that too.

If you're not one for the Pad Thai, the Singapore Fried Noodles is a must.

Can't beat for price, or quality.

Have been a regular at Cinta for years - the experience is always consistently great.

Chilled out atmosphere with great food at reasonable prices (tummy full of food at around $10 a plate cant go wrong) - love the char kuay teow, wat tan hor and hainanese chicken rice.

Have been working through the menu with a different "usual" each season and the friendly guy in Cinta always remembers our "usual" when we walk in which is a really nice touch.

Will be returning for more good food very soon :)

Best Malaysian around, best hinnanese chicken and cha quaw teow. Great service, reasonable prices and can always get a seat.
Highly recommend.
Haven't had any bad experiences, all good all round great.

We've been going here regularly for over 20 years, at the various locations Cinta has inhabited, and it has remained our absolutely favourite place to eat.

The food and service and prices haven't varied in their excellence over all those years.

Our top favourites are the curry laksa, lamb curry, chicken mee goreng, and roti -- all of these are the best examples in town (and if the Cinta folk are reading this, they can probably guess who we are!)

Occasionally we branch out into other menu items, and these are always delicious also. I particularly like the tofu entree.

It's affordable enough that we can take the kids regularly (they have mild mee goreng ... when they were very little we'd just get plain rice for them and supplement with a few lunchbox snacks), and, although the decor is never a joy, WHO CARES -- we always feel at home and leave feeling very satisfied. (If maybe a little over-full as we're not mature enough to leave food on our plates!)

A great place to eat with any number, from alone or in large groups. Fast, friendly, and delicious.

GO CINTA!

the best food i have ever tried . its the best food with so reasonable price .. a must try

The best teh tarik in town is in Cinta! Food there is the standard Malaysian fare, with pretty generous portions. The Nasi Lemak with beef rendang is pretty good as well! Quaint little place to have a quick meal or just hang out with some mates for tea. Friendly and prompt service, although the decor needs some sprucing up a bit.
