Review Dunshea's Deli - Wellington

This has become our regular place to go for breakfast. An absolute gem which is disarmingly unpretentious whilst serving some of the best cafe food & coffee you are likely to find anywhere.Superb value for money to boot.

Popped in 20 minutes before closing since I was dying for a nice latte. Ordered a steak and cheese pie with a side of salad and it was one of the nicest cafe pies i have tried. Their coffee was so delightfully creamy with the right level of sweetness. Will definitely be back in future.

Great local deli. Good hearty brunch menu, all the usual sweets well executed along with a few special treats every day. Great coffee well served.

Top notch food. Damn nice coffee. Friendly and efficient staff. No complaintd here 😊👍 Pictured is pulled pork on toast. This dish comes with a poached egg but moi does not like dem things, hence the vacancy at the bottom of the plate đŸ˜¶đŸ™ƒ. I now have to figure out how to attach the image to one's review, hmm.

An awesome Cafe! Great food and coffee. The owner/ operator Craig is a friendly guy!

Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and delicious food! The cheese scones are especially tasty. It is a popular spot, so occasionally there aren't enough indoor seats, but there are sheltered tables and chairs outside with blankets and a wee heater.

The food and service is always so consistently good! And the food is reasonably priced too.

Cheese scones are amazing, best I've had anywhere so far

Great food & coffee, in a quiet location in Khandallah of the beaten track.....

Very impressive little cafe and deli in the suburbs. Nice atmosphere, good coffee and yummy treats.

Cosy small café with good, traditional café food. Very nice, extremely friendly staff, although a bit on the pricey side. Would recommend when alone or with a small group :)

Great little cafe. The coffee I don't think could be any better and the food always tasty. I've become a regular here and would highly recommend.

I love this little place.
The food is fab, both the cakes and the menu options. Coffee is consistently great and the service is always really friendly from all members of the team. Feel very lucky to have this place as a part of our neighbourhood.

A favourite. The best meat pies in Wellington - the steak and red wine is excellent - lovely salads and always a good range of delicious naughty delicacies. Very friendly efficient service. Good coffee too!

Although quite small, with just one table seating 8 and a side bar with a few barstools, it's a nice place for a deli/café type meal. Quite a lot of window food and menu for other bits and bobs.

Highly recommended.
A cool, modern little cafe/deli, duck egg blue and grey paintwork give it a nice tasteful aspect - a heated outside seating area and inside a couple of small, and one larger, shared table - it had a Ponsonby feel (in a good way).

Counter cabinet filled with a small (good) but brilliant-looking pastries, pies and a few cakes - all/most? Cooked in-house. Again there was a small but extremely good selection of cheese - Roquefort, Gorgonzola picante ...... with a few meats, black pudding etc.

The walls also displayed a small selection of deli processed goods that weren't necessarily the run of the mill stuff you usually find.

We ordered two flat whites - they were close to perfect - Karamu coffee well made.

Bacon butty with "deli relish" was two slices of toasted sourdough with bacon, fried egg and a warm tomato / onion sauce laced with warm cinnamoney spices. It was great.

Granola came with apple, banana, yoghurt and milk on the side. Perhaps one the nicest granola's I've tasted - delicious.

Service was excellent.

Overall I regret not having found this place earlier - It is seriously good and I personally think its the best Wellington cafe north of Hillside in Thorndon. I'd certainly drive across town for the breakfasts. It's a pity khandallah is so far away - good suburban eateries need to be encouraged.

Foodies; yes
Kids; yes but it is small and no guarantees about seating.

PS. The low rating that this cafe has is weird and frankly silly.

Popped along for brunch with the wife and was very impressed. Had the black pudding hash and it was lovely and the wife had the chorizo and potato Bravas which she really enjoyed. Great flat white too!! Will definitely be back.

Really good flat whites, nice friands and friendly atmosphere. I liked the look of the unique dishes on the brunch menu, including a savoury French goat and fruit salad with lemongrass syrup. Looking forward to going back and having more than just good coffee and cake.

This is a regular and a favourite.

Be it for a coffee, coffee and a treat or one of the main dishes Dunsheas always pleases.

Craig is a great ringmaster here - friendly, efficient and a fine hand on the coffee machine.

Everything is good but favourites on the menu are the black pudding dish and the choritzo dish.

Cabinet food is also lovely.

Writing this makes me want to run there for a coffee and an orange cake!

We decided to do breakfast after having visited for a coffee earlier in the week

The place is small and but we managed to get one end of the large inside table. My wife had eggs on toast with tomato and I had tomato and basil on toast both were very good as were the coffees. The food here is very good if not excellent

I was particularly impressed at how efficient the two staff on were esp. being so busy at the time.

We will return.

The food looks nice here but the owner seems permanently in a bad mood. General cleanliness could do with some attention, dead flies around the place and floor definitely needs a redo. Sorry to say but the coffee is pretty marginal as well.

Very small Deli with good food and interesting mix of flavours and good ingredients. Average rating is due to limited seating inside and out. Placed in a small side street by heavy traffic on main road .There is limited parking and next to an oily garage. It gets full as there is little room for manoevre and probably suited to being just a take out place but the coffee is good and served hot. Guy behind the counter serving who may be the owner and a cook in the background. You can see them preparing the food or cooking it in the ovens etc and the place is clean. Problem for me is the attitude of the guy behind the counter who seems to find customers a bit of a nuisance and I see others have had the same problem with his surly attitude. Food isnt cheap but not overly priced and the guy is obviously doing you a favor serving you as he'd rather be elsewhere.

Great little place, excellent coffee and service. Food good, staff friendly and attentive.

I stopped in here for an iced chocolate while walking the dog on a hot day.
It came out in a tiny glass and was warm. Not nice at all.

Went back recently to visit what was one of my favourite cafes to be greeted with surly service. Took the shine off the whole experience and will think twice before returning.

Dunshea's is a wonderful deli and cafe serving beautifully fresh food and brilliant coffee. The service is excellent and there is a real passion for food quality and an attention to detail second to none. A real find, tucked away in Khandallah.
