Review Brooklyn Deli - Wellington

Kalin Soden (Kalin Potato)
Absolutely 10/10 from this place. Went there about a month ago so a bit of a late post, but wowee what an experience! The food was amazing, a great space and the service was impeccable. They were super attentive and even let me have a look at the barbecue! Would wholeheartedly recommend this place for an awesome experience. Constructive feedback: Not too sure how possible this is to fix but I think the acoustics in the restaurant are too good and it can get quite rowdy. It may just boil down the type of building it is though so no minus points for that!

A good place to have a bit. Their pastry are unique and is tasty. The quiche and frittata is average though.

Brooklyn deli started doing Argentinian chimichurri Asado night a couple of months ago. Tonight was the night that we visited and they were amazingly accommodating and did a special platter for us that included dessert. We were just so blown away by the amount of food on offer and the flavours were wonderful. Special nod to the pork neck with BBQ with charcoal for 4 hours and basted with lemon juice and chimichurri, and both their chicken and beef empanadas were just OMG. Definitely rated one of the best dinners we've had and highly recommended to all! They do $79 all you can eat and you must book! Bonus was we got a tour of their kitchen and some of us even flipped some meat!

I recently had dinner at  Chimichurri Argentinian BBQ, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. This restaurant offers an authentic taste of Argentina BBQ. The experience began with a delightful selection of empanadas and an antipasto plate. The empanadas were perfectly crispy and filled with flavourful ingredients, while the antipasto plate was a medley of cured meats, cheeses, and olives. As we moved on to the first meat course, which included chorizo, sweetbreads, and black pudding, I was already impressed by the quality and flavours of the dishes. The chorizo was wonderfully seasoned and had just the right amount of spice, while the sweetbreads were rich and succulent. The vegetable course was a pleasant surprise, offering a refreshing balance to the meat-centric menu. The salad was fresh and crisp, the pumpkin and sweet potato were perfectly roasted, and the delicious chili added a delightful kick of flavour. Of course, the highlight of the evening was the beef course. Argentina is renowned for its beef, and Chimichurri did not disappoint. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour. It truly embodied the essence of Argentinian cuisine, and it's an experience that every meat lover should savour. Throughout the evening, Chef Javier was actively involved, making sure everything was to our satisfaction. His warm and friendly demeanour added a personal touch. The service, in general, was outstanding, with attentive waiter who was eager to make our experience memorable. They have vegetarian offerings, but I will probably never try that. In conclusion, Chimichurri Argentinian BBQ offers a top-notch experience.  I can't recommend this restaurant enough

Food was so good. The menu was descriptive and pretty wholesome. They had plenty to choose from, all with reasonable price tags on em. The food arrived... Wow. The chips were the best. So fluffy, crispy, golden. Yum. The bbq meat had a nice flavour. The house made mayo... Wow. We got a dessert afterwards. Pancake rolled with dulce de leche, whipped cream, banana, cookie. Omg. Wanted more. I'll be back next time I'm in The Whanganui A Tara. Peace!

Brooklyn deli, it's something that you must visit if you are around Wellington. Great food, Argentinian food. We tried the Provoleta (grilled Argentinian cheese), definitely tasteful, your mouth gonna be thankful after eating that. We also get the "Sangui Tucumano" (beef milanesa), which was exquisite, I would like to have it every day, to be honest. Finally, we get empanadas, and yes, really tasty and juicy, how is supposed to be 👏. Variety of options for vegan and gluten-free. Breakfast, lunch, and bakery. All that you need. It is such a great place and great staff. Definitely, we'll come back soon.

Lovely place for a Sunday breakfast. A really nice space. Great coffee.

Had the best brunch I've had in Wellington! I had the desayuno completo, (full breakfast). The chorizo and blood sausage were very high quality and delicious. I ordered gluten free toast, which is made on the premises, it's complex and completely divine! Lovely beans, salsa, fried eggs and bacon. Coffee is very good too. Lovely and helpful staff. My new Welly fave place!

We dined here on a Saturday night and had the Full Asado Experience! Wow, the food was awesome, and the volume of food was eye-popping! You will go home stuffed to the brim and very happy if you eat here. If you want volume and value for money this is your place! The staff were so lovely, generous and accommodating. We will definitely be back.

If I could give 7 stars I would. What I loved about the evening was that it was an experience. It wasn't just night out. It was an experience. They offer this once per week which makes it special. It's a really nice intimate setting with just one waiter and the chef (I think it's Javier?). The food was exceptional and I like that each course was explained (what we were eating and why it was important). The timing of each course was perfect and the food got progressively better. Was funny as we were encouraged to request things again that we liked. After trying everything we had no room left. Then after a great dinner we were invited to go back and check out the BBQ. While Javier explained everything I could just tell how much he missed home and how happy he was to recreate his experience for us. Thanks so much.

I planned to go there already for several month and finally we went there. It was a surprise and like a visit back in Europe. All we had, all dishes where so good. Lovely made amd full of taste.

A great place to drop in for a relaxing coffee or something more substantial from the cabinets or menu. Our coffees were delish, as was the food we chose, which included a breakfast dish of poached eggs, tons of avocado mash and some tasty looking dark bread, and a simple ham and cheese toasted panini. The sweet treats are quite a bit different from what I’ve seen elsewhere, plus they have a variety of organic rye and spelt breads for sale too. The ‘deli’ section is very small, but it contains some fine Italian meats and cheeses, all of which are cut to order. The service is hospitable, and the decor is very pleasant, the highlight for me being the wood feature wall (see photos).

I came here for my birthday with my family and my partner for the Saturday Asado night. Obviously at $80 I was a little apprehensive, but I can say it was well worth it. The chef explained every dish to us, and everything was delicious - everything. As much sauce as you’d like, meats, salads, antipasto, vegetables etc. We ate as much as we could and still walked away with 2 takeaway boxes. Exceeded expectations, highly recommended.

Everything in here is absolutely delicious! Cant wait to come back and try the ASADO with the real og argentinian BBQ! If you have a sweet tooth, highly recomend the pastry creations (the ricota cake is just marvelous! I'd never had anything like it) Thank you Flor & Javi for the nice welcoming and definetively coming back soon!

We recently dined at Chimichurri on one of their new asado nights. It was amazing. The service is friendly, passionate, and engaged. Every dish was explained, and the chef made recommendations and was more than happy to engage in conversation whenever we had questions. The tour of the kitchen was special, and the giant barbecue with stacked glowing coals was wondrous to behold. The variety of the food was exciting. The quality of the cook was fantastic: the meat dishes were juicy and full of flavour. Cooked simply but expertly with just salt and fire, we enjoyed the delicious traditional barbecue flavours. Everything was yummy, but the blood sausage is particularly noteworthy. The chef proudly explained they made it themselves, and wow, is it good! Our table also loved the picanha, which was juicy and tender. After we finished, the chef brought us two takeaway boxes with extra portions of the items we liked the most. We felt well taken care of I highly recommend the asado evening for a night full of expertly prepared meat, warm staff, and a memorable experience. We will definitely come again.

Great to have funky, casual, friendly dining in the neighbourhood.

Super friendly services and great range of pastry choices

Had the Viennese breakfast, one of their stand out dishes, was excellent. Focus was on the quality of the produce, the cheese, the ham, the bread, the soft boiled egg, the butter, the muffin, everything was finely crafted. Excellent! Very impressed, and will definitely be back

Has a nice atmosphere, been there twice knew near the open and then more recently. I find the portion sizes have gone way down and the prices way up. Classic case of open with decent prices, become popular then significantly raise them. The food and atmosphere are good but for the price it's just not justified in my opinion.

Nice food, but has rude uncaring unempathetic staff.<br/><br/>Last time I was there my experience was awful.<br/><br/>I have a severe nut allergy (anaphylaxis) so naturally I asked if my quiche had any nuts in it. The lady checked and said no.<br/><br/>One mouthful of the quiche and I felt a bad allergic reaction coming on. Not just itchy allergic reaction bad but my throat was starting to close up and was having issues breathing and was considering ringing an ambulance (which I did on the end BTW).<br/><br/>Went up to the counter and a staff member and I proceeded to figure out what ingredient was causing this reaction. I mentioned how the staff should really should be informed of these things in the future. He replied by saying you should have asked and it was only partly their fault. No sorry for ruining your afternoon/evening by waiting in Emergency department, no sorry for making me feel like shit, or sorry for possibly killing me.<br/><br/>And guess what's worse? I found out later my best friend ended up paying for my quiche.<br/><br/>I can't believe how the staff here could be so heartless.<br/><br/>

I tend to forget to have coffee/light snack here, but often go to the Penthouse cinema right next. This time we went there as a family and were all happy about the quality of the food. And my coffee was good, too. I just have to remember to drop by here next time for coffee. The danger is that I probably end up over spending here to buy bits of cookies, cakes and other yummy treats to take away. We had Goulage, Pancake etc... I would like to try many of the dishes here. The service was fine. Nice and cozy place.

Unexpected pleasure to find Austrian / German restaurant. Tiny but good deli. Good dining room, warm and pleasant with big windows. Food was nicely done and presented.

Love this Austrian bakery cafe. They have really nice bread you can buy to take home and delicious pastries, and their brunch and lunch menu is also solid. It's a nice and relaxed atmosphere where you can sit and work or read, and their staff is always friendly.

I've always really enjoyed my experiences at The Brooklyn Deli! The staff are always lovely, and the food always fantastic.<br/><br/>The Ladies Breakfast is especially amazing! So many things! And the bubbles make a delicious, relaxing treat.

Having stopped in here for a quick coffee before, I decided I wanted to come back to try the food. The menu is European inspired with lots of cold plates and cheeses featured. <br/>I eventually decided on a big vegetarian breakfast, which had the most delicious hollandaise  sauce.

Beetroot salad :(<br/>Small portions :( <br/>Disappointed much <br/>Good raps in local rag not warranted in my view did I mention very very small portions

Went here for what I thought would be a quick coffee on Sunday morning. Not very busy, only two other tables occupied. My partner's mocha came quick enough, and seemed nice - shame it had to be taken stone cold. It took 15 minutes after he received his to get me the vienna coffee I ordered.<br/>During this time, I was glancing at the wait staff to check if my order was approaching. One of them caught my eye on one approached, scowled, and ducked away to the back shop.<br/>The table next to ours, meanwhile, hammered desolately at rock-hard $20 poached eggs, audibly grumbling.<br/>There was a disclaimer on the menu for the wait time on one item. Maybe they should put that on some of their other menu options.

Having lived in Austria, I was pleased to find the Deli. The people are friendly and the food is very good - makes me feel I'm back in Austria! I recommend it.

Was in the area and stopped for a coffee and brunch. The coffee was disappointing, but the scrambled eggs were great – a generous helping, deliciously fluffy and lite. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall impression: good, but not great

An ok deli/bakery with Austrian theme.<br/><br/>Presumably the fitout is Austrian mountain hut meets 1930s commercial interior - but not entirely sure - wood seems to figure quite a bit and red and white check uniforms.<br/><br/>On Saturday the breads are primarily non-Austrian which was disappointing. An organic sourdough, farmers loaf, spelt loaf, sunflower loaf, baguette and salzstengel. No pretzel or laugen bread, which is what we went for. <br/><br/>Teas were from t2 and the only black tea was a caramel flavoured "Melbourne breakfast tea" which was a surprising deficiency.<br/><br/>I ordered the Tiroler Groestl - thinly sliced potatoes fried with speck, herbs and an overcooked egg. This was rather boring the potatoes being unrelieved by anything other than the dry egg. I ended up buying a tube of mustard from the deli and adding this which was an improvement. The best one of these I've had was in Innsbruck where the meat and potato was in larger more rustic pieces and it came as well with a juicy roast tomato - one of the most delicious dishes I've had in the past few years.<br/><br/>My partner had the Viennese breakfast - ham, cheese, jam, soft boiled egg, and liptauer. This was crammed into such a small dish it was almost impossible to manoeuvre anything. <br/><br/>Quite noisy interior.<br/><br/>Delightful Czech waitress<br/><br/>Few Austrian deli foods except for the mustard, vanilla sugar and cans of almdueller - which from memory could be mimicked by half L&P and the rest ginger ale and soda water.<br/><br/>Suggest adding at least one unflavoured black tea and increasing the Austrian component of the deli as well as bread section.

Could be better. The pros are the coffee is yum, the food is good and the staff are friendly. On the downside, service is pretty loose, with long wait times and forgotten items. And it's cold in winter!

Had a perfect Havana coffee and some fruit and nut bread. Sugar free. Delicious. Love the place. Nice staff. Will be back for a meal soon. The menu looks good. The atmosphere was cosy on a cold miserable evening. <br/>
