Review Electric Avenue - Wellington

Always a great night here. The crowds are always a good sort, heaps of dancing, and is the place that I know will be going off during the week not just on the weekend.

(now called Danger Danger) Went here for dinner. The chicken wings are AMAZING! Very polite and friendly staff. Clean and well presented when in "restaurant mode"

Great service, we experienced quite a delay in getting our food and we had to leave before we could eat it, however the manager sorted us out with a credit and when we returned he went the extra mile to make sure we were well looked after. Definitely will be back again!

Visited here a few times after Grabone (I think) promotions, food + movie tickets, was a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Awesome music and cheap drinks! The only catch is it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get food.
Alison Knight
$10 jugs of beer & a big pizza for $15 in a cool bar with good music.
Michael Morrison
Good drinks. Waited a bit for food but had a good party atmosphere.

Now called "Danger Danger". Small good dance floor. Upstairs and downstairs bar. DJ.

Fun place to get down and dirty on a Friday/Saturday night.

Loved the music, atmosphere, service and the place. It's not too big so it can get difficult to move around especially when crowded, despite that it's a great place to hang out with friends.

Nothing amazing and a little bit expensive for what you got however cheap drinks which was great. The service was very average- the people were too busy to come and make sure everything was okay and overall they weren't overly friendly. I got a pizza to share with my partner and there wasn't a lot of chicken on it and the "bacon" was just ham from a supermarket. Would only really go back for drinks.

Piece of dirt bouncer kicked out my friend who was showing no signs of drunkenness. Never go there. My friend explained that his finance was there and had to get her. Bouncer's response was, 'I'm not asking you, I'm telling you.' Nasty bar.

We popped in for 2-for-1 pizzas (Tuesday night) - highly recommend the New York Yankee pizza. Second pizza we ordered was quite a different style which we hadn't expected, but ok. Great service

My mother gave my partner and I a $50 voucher for electric avenue- how kind of her- so we decided to dine here tonight. We had a pretty good time here. Although I've had many a grotty Saturday night here, during its dinner service it didn't feel like the same atmosphere- felt more like a friendly local pub, sans the stale alcohol smell. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive without feeling overbearing. We managed to grab two (alcoholic) drinks, calamari, curly fries, a hash beef burger and a pizza and only had to pay $6 out of pocket, which was great. The food all seemed suspiciously soggy except the fries, which was weird, but probably just came from the fact that the calamari, hash brown in my burger, buns, pizza etc needed a bit more time to crisp up. The flavours themselves were your usual pub food tastes. Not great, but still good and tasty, and for $6 I wouldn't dare complain. I'd like to especially note that the pizza base flavor was super on point in terms of flavor and texture- perfect cheese to base ratio and good bready flavour. Would recommend for good pub food flavours :-)

Rocked up to Electric Ave on Tuesday night for a quick meal (my son enjoys the curly fries) - little did we know it was their busiest meal nights of the week. So we had a 40 minute wait but we were told this - so all good. We had a couple of rounds of drinks before our meal arrived - and they were generally very good - non greasy pizza and the burgers were great - that's one spicy chicken burger! A lot of people go one about the decor and uncleanliness but it really is a night venue not a classy restaurant - get over it. Wellington needs more of these grungy alternative venues - like in its heyday - keep it up!

My boyfriend and I went here on a date night with a Grab One voucher I had. We had a pizza and garlic bread. It was difficult to find a seat as there wasn't many places to sit :/ However the pizza we had was great!

Sometimes head here when they run the Grabone deals. The pizzas are ok, but I wouldn't fork out full price for them as I don't think they're worth it. Also, the atmosphere turns pretty raucous quickly.. so if you're not out for a boozy one may pay to head somewhere else to dine! It is a student/backpacker bar after all.

The pizzas here are delicious, and the kitchen staff is too. I just want to eat them up. Seriously. I will devour you, Jessie.
Also, this review needs to be 140 characters. So, there's that.

Came here as we had a movie/pizza deal. Was really good value for money in this case but would not pay for the pizza at full price. Pizza base was burnt and had to have it re-made as it was inedible but somehow didn't notice until we showed the waitress who was in all fairness incredibly sorry.

Having brought a voucher and then read the reviews I was unsure what to expect. As described by previous reviewers it was dark, though clean. The staff were attentive and soon we had our drinks and orders placed. Out came the Curly Fries and they were lovely, cooked to perfection. Our pizza - The Rockerfella, was OK. shaved ham on a pizza does not work for me and the chicken lacked a bit of a bite as described in hte menu. Would I come back - Yes

We came here to eat a late lunch. Electric Avenue presents itself as an 80s wonderland. We did not get that impression during our visit. This venue must work better at night time under subdued lighting. Under those conditions, the stickiness underfoot, several week old deposits of spilled god-knows-what on the floors and the ingrained stench of sweat, stale beer and a broad variety of other (mostly bodily) excretions must go inexplicably unnoticed. The few unwelcome cracks of light that manage to penetrate the unwashed windows at 4 o'clock in the afternoon in December only serve to illuminate the unwashed surfaces within. Which perhaps explains why they only open at 4 o'clock and seem to regard external light with such circumspection.
The food was inedible. We tried but failed. The prawns were not sweet, but slightly acidic and fishy. The curly fries were swimming in oil. That's as far as we dared go.
I had a bottled drink so can't comment on that aspect of the bar.
To wind up, in my opinion one of the best ways to judge a restaurant / cafe / bar is by their toilets. They offer an honest reflection on the hygiene standards of the establishment. And it is here that Electric Avenue really stands out in a class of its own!
I can only describe the toilets at Electric Avenue as a dark discoloured dungeon, that smells worse than any other place on earth. The gents is genuinely shocking. There were several squadrons of flies doing battle in the toilets, lured from all over New Zealand by the smell. The poor lighting only made it look more like the set of an Irvine Welsh novel. Having just eaten, it was a stomach churning experience that I hope never to repeat.
We will never go there again. We will never eat there. My advice to others: safe yourselves.

Went here for dinner on a Friday night! The garlic bread is really strange, tasted very odd. Has a weird paste on the top. We ate 2 pieces of the 8 pieces that were there. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. The pizza was ok but I have had better elsewhere. The fries also came out way before our pizza and garlic bread which was odd. They did seem very understaffed for how busy it was!

I wasn't to impressed with Electric Avenue. We went there for a early dinner before a movie. We ordered the Chicken skewers, Curly Fries and the Cheese Supreme Pizza.
The chicken skewers were a total let down, it was advertised as marinated chicken thighs and were priced at $15 and it was 3 skewers with 4 small pieces of chicken that had no taste at all and it was covered in a very sweet sauce. I was shocked that I paid $15 for this dish, it looked to be no more than 1/2 a thigh of chicken on all 3 skewers & I'm seriously not kidding.
The pizza was OK, it was cheesy like it said but was very slim on the blue cheese that you couldn't really taste it.
I think I would go back for pizza but I wouldn't order any of the snacks/starters as you may be disappointed with what you pay for...

We taken advantage of the deals they often have in conjunction with the movies - offering $20 of food plus two movie tickets for only $25! There pizzas are reasonably basic, but very good. A great place to go when you want to be around people, but enjoy a nice relaxed environment. It has a very unpretentious feel to it, and seems popular with people from all walks of life. Perfect place for pizza and a beer.
