Review Seoul House - Wellington

Anthony Chung
Had a phenomenal experience from start to finish! My server (I believe her name was Sky) greeted me and everyone with a huge smile. The food here is truly authentic. It was a cold day that day and I knew that I needed the warmth and heat of Korean food and they definitely delivered! The service was without a doubt phenomenal and they definitely delivered! Definitely highly recommend this place and will be coming back next time I'm in Wellington!

Best Korean restaurant in wellington cbd😊 luv the bean paste together with samgyupsal. We can eat here all day 😊

Busy spot which could probably do with extra staff on the day we were there. Bibimbap was great, food quality wasn't hampered by the lack of FOH staff. Will return!

Food was great, service kind of slow, and forgoten, because they were short of staff when we were there. But other then that, os was great, delicious.

Best korean place I've been to so far. The Beef Bulgogi and the sweet and spicy chicken was amazing. Also friendly service with a smile.

We just left and we loved it so much we had to leave a review. We had the BBQ. My partner is still drooling over it and can't wait to go back for more. We also had the Kimchi Jjigae which was so spicy, and comforting for a cold winters night. The waitress was so lovely. I regret not getting her name to say thank you for such a great night. We can't wait to return. Can't recommend this place enough!

Good food and interesting presentation. Lovely selection of small complementary dishes to accompany our mains. Kimchi stew was just great.

This is the best food I've ever had!!! We went twice during our trip because it was so good. Great music and great service. I'm coming back every time I travel here!

Ordered the kimchi jiggae and tteobbokki. It was alright. Thought that the rice cake were cooked too long it wasn’t chewy anymore, and the overall flavour was too mild.

Best Korean fried chicken in Wellington. The soju is very expensive.
Claudia Vaya
Sundubu jiggae is ok, lacking a bit more salt. Average taste for the beef ramen, taste a lot like instant noodle. Understandably so due to short staffing. Staff were still friendly and helpful

Side dish was kind of disappointing, the potatoes we're tasteless. Ordered a dish of spicy squid, also lack of seasonings, good kimichi tho. Place is a bit dark, and empty.

Yum yum ! Beautiful food with valuable prices , good service. Highly recommended

Friendly and fast service, with reasonable pricing and average serving sizes. The tteokbokki (떡볶이) was chewy and delicious, although the sauce seemed to lack depth of flavour, and wasn't spicy enough for my taste! Their fried chicken (양념치킨) is crispy and the sauce is also delicious; would have preferred the sauce spicier as they describe it in a sweet & spicy sauce, but it was more sweet than spicy. The spicy squid stir fry (오징어 뷰음) was also another great dish, also not as spicy but everything was well seasoned and cooked well! Bonus of great classic Korean side dishes 😊
Nice Korean Food, Delicious 😃

Came here with two of my friends, two of us ordered bibimbap and one ordered one of those seafood tofu soup. The bibimbap was just average since the rice was so sticky it didn’t work very well. The seafood tofu soup was straight up bland despite the presentation being good. The service was also not very pleasant. Couldn’t find the waitress for about 10 minutes and when we asked for refill she completely ignored us. Wouldn’t come up again.

A pretty average place for Korean food. I came here with a group of friends and we did order quite a lot. It wasn't convenient considering the numbers we had. it was a little cramped particularly for some of my friends who sat in the inside. Quite full of people in the weekends, and for its space it isn't catered for large groups (10 or more).

The side dishes were not to my standards, portion is a little small and the kimchi was mediocre at best. The soup was good, it did have a lot of ingredients in there and I'm happy with that.

Overall, a little pricey for the portion. I would come here again but only for some occasions or if I'm feeling the need to spend.
7/10

Had the BBQ for two with my husband, it came with kimchi, bean sprouts, rice and potatoes definitely filling. Not a very large menu but still a great meal.

I ordered bibimbap. It served with lots of veggies and there is a rice below. The taste is absolutely so good. The beef is not too sticky and it is on point. The veggie in the bowl also taste nice and go well with this dish.My friend ordered kimchi soup with korean spicy but it still to mild for us.The taste of kimchi soup is brilliant. We also ordered tok-bokki but we think that it is too sweet. The side dishes are kimchi, bean sprout and potato. They look simple but they are actually taste great.I think it is a little bit expensive for me compare to other restaurant.Overall if I have chance I would definitely go back.

When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the staff. The service was okay, although it could improve. The food came out pretty fast and they looked amazing, most of which were still sizzling in their bowl.

The price of the food were a bit on the expensive side but the portions were fairly large. I didn’t really enjoy the taste of the bibimpap but their steaks and the bbq we had were amazing.

I’m not sure if I would go again any time soon but I did enjoy it quite a bit enough to refer it to some friends. Overall the experience and food were okay.

Although still a mile away from Auckland Korean food options, this perphas is the best in welly. Good selection of choices and licensed. My spicy beef soup was tasty. Side dishes were limited (you get at least 5 sides in Auckland and free top ups) but better than others in welly.

Bulgogi (Marinated Beef) was dry and tasteless. I would have preferred to take the $19 I spent on the dish to eat at maccas or dominos pizza

Great restaurant! I have been to many Korean restaurants in Seoul, and the food here is just as good! The waiter is a very nice man and our food (up to five people were at the table) came out super quickly, sizzling hot and tasted delicious! The interior design is very authentic and has lots of Korean posters/pictures/news etc. The panfried dumplings are particularly delicious. This is my favourite Korean restaurant in Wellington!

Was craving Korean cuisine for dinner and stopped by Seoul House, which is one of my top picks for Korean food in the city.

The restaurant is larger than most Korean ones in Wellington so it feels more roomy and comfortable. There was only 1 waitress but there wasn't a big crowd so I got served relatively quickly.

I picked the new item on the menu which was bulgogi stew, served with rice and side dishes. It arrived bubbling deliciously in its stone pot. The taste was also absolutely phenomenal. Bulgogi is normally thicker and served with rice on the side, but watering it down slightly and making it a stew is perfection for a cold evening. Portion was also more than enough and I had to pack some home. Totally recommend it, even though it is a tad pricier than the other stews on the menu.

The side dishes though, were disappointing. The bean sprouts was quite bland and frankly, tasted like they had been refrigerated for too long. The kimchi wasn't to my taste, although that is my personal opinion because every restaurant has a different kimchi recipe. It obviously could be very yummy to someone else so even though I couldn't finish mine, I wouldn't discount it completely.

Showstopper: Bulgogi stew...soooo good!!

Overall grade: B+

My friends who are regulars at Seoul House took me here for dinner for the first time. Very friendly and fast service. The waitress was accomodating and refilled our appetizers as soon as we finished them. The food was amazing. Bulgogi and kim chi fried rice are the best out of all the dishes that we ordered. Will definitely be back!

Had a lovely lunch of Kim chi stew with pork and tofu. Piping hot, which was great on a cold winter day. The stew was spicy and sour, with lots of cabbage Kim chi complemented nicely with the tofu. There wasn't much pork and to be honest, it would have been fine without it. The meal also came with the complimentary Kim chi, cabbage, bean sprouts and a sweet potato. Service was friendly and being early for lunch hour, the meal was served within 10 mins of ordering.

Have visited Seoul house numerous times, absolutely adore the pork bulgogi it is the best in town. It comes out on sizzling plate with vermicelli and cabbage and bowl of rice. Also comes with shared dishes for the table, the kim chi is lovely (we always finish ours and they keep refilling it) the shares bbq are great if you are with a group (i am often to impatient to watch it cook in front of me so order the pork bulgogi)

the restaurant is nice and spacious. The side dishes are bonus when having dinner/ lunch. Kimchi and potato kimchi is good but the seaweed is quite chewy and taste a bit weird. We ordered BBQ for 2, with spicy pork, spicy squid and bulgogi marinated beef. The taste is good and the presentation is OK. The customer service is Ok but the toilet is quite dirty.

We ordered bibimbap for dinner. They served it pretty quickly. The heart shape egg was cute. Personally, I like my stone bowl to be super hot so the rice at the bottom would burn a little. This bowl is hot but it didn't feel like it was hot enough. Sauce was fine, as a whole it's okay. Only one waitress working so she was a bit busy and we had to help ourselves and remind her to get our drinks. Food and service we had is okay.

I have read good reviews about this place before I went in today, so I gotta say my expectation was quite high. The atmosphere seemed nice and tidy. I ordered Yuk-gae-jang and Hae-jang-guk, and they were both really disappointing... It wasn't like the service was particularly good either. One of the side dishes - kimchi was good though, but that was all. Maybe I picked the wrong food from menu, but I wouldn't like to go back there for second time.

I've been craving to have Korean have ever since I moved to Wellington a year ago. There are heaps of Korean restaurants in Auckland but there aren't that much in Wellington. I went to Seoul House for dinner and I had my favourite - kimchi jjigae. I was not disappointed! Even my friends (who were trying Korean for the first time) were pleased with their bulgogi and bibimbap. I know now where to go whenever I start craving for some Korean food!

This is a korean restaurant that I always say yes when I visit wellington.
Food are always warm and delicious! I tried several different dishes
and I recommend spicy pork on hot plate and the tofu soup.
If you are a vegetarian, try ask the staff to substitute the beef to tofu on the top of the bibimbap (hot pot rice with various vegetables).
They are always good with some beers and also with the rice wine! :)
Best Korean restaurant in Wellington!

Went for dinner for two. The place looked quite from outside but I've seen good ratings about this place so we dared to try it.

I ordered chicken dubbab and my partner had beef steak and seafood pancake. The food came very shortly after we ordered and it was delicious!
My chicken dubbab was cooked perfectly and full with flavours. I was loving the seafood pancake too, it was massive! Too much that we had to take it for takeaway.
The beef steak is relatively small and was just okay.. needs improvement.

The restaurant itself was comfortable and welcoming.. It was warm and the staff were so lovely and welcoming. It gave you a great feeling and wanna stay longer :)

Definitely come back to try other menus! Few misses here and there but completely out of what good things they served :)

Went here for date night last night. We were greeted by a perfectly nice server. We ordered the BBQ pork for two with rice and the beef noodle soup. We were given a big plate on a little gas stove and out soup came out boiling, very cool. Everything seemed quite unassuming and simple, but put together it tasted amazing. We were given little pots of red soybean paste and sesame oil which when we dipped the pork into, really brought out the gorgeous flavor of the pork. The noodle soup was the epitome of comfort food- really meaty, and warm and wholesome tasting. Also. The free side dish of kimchi was awesome, extremely authentic and quite fresh tasting so you know they make it on site. Will definitely be back again, I has a fantastic time.

The music is good, the food comes fast, and the taste is perfect!!! Excellent Korean Cuisine. The service is good. Would definitely recommend this place for group of friends or workmates to go for lunch :D

Love the dishes that can be shared :)

What a lovely place. Very laid back style where u can basically walkin no reservation needed! I ordered the seafood noodle soup with prawns muscles and veges for $18. It was a very large bowl a beautiful seafood broth for sure but the noodles were flavourless and there was minimal veges. They had a bbq meal for which was very delicious and cheap. The beef with clear noodles and spicy chicken with noodles hot plates were full of flavour and tasted amazing. I would be cautious with prices there and take the menu up when paying for ur meal. My meal alone was $18 + $42 for my hubbys bbq which should have come to a total of $60 but we and the other diners with us were charged $75 for our meals. Very questionable with that. But the food was great! Service was ok they spoke very little english which could be better as they have been in Wellington for awhile and should at least employ basic communication skills in English. I guess it may just be their culture to not talk at all to ur diners?

I have always wanted to try Korean cuisine and this place was a surprise. Not knowing what to order, I selected the shall I say bluntly infallible Asian dish, the Fried Rice with pork. My partner ordered the pork omelette with rice. We tried each other's dishes and both shared a particularly sweet/ honey taste. The portions were good, the service was good, and it was a good evening. There was no Gangnam Style to be heard, and that is all.

Great food with very generous servings and fast, efficient service. I'm also prompted to provide my thoughts after reading the other ignorant post talking about Korean Mafia etc... not helpful and, yes, Hwajangshil is toilet (or literally makeup room) in Korean but doesn't non-perfect English just add to the experience???!!!

I typically have a think before selecting a Korean restaurant (as does my wife, who is Korean) but we always end up at Seoul House and don't leave disappointed.

Went there for lunch today.
Had, beef hot plate, mandu, bim, and a kimchi tofu dish. They were all really good. Good value for money too.

Service was a bit crap. Had to get our own menus, sit ourselves down, and also get our own utensils. There was only one waitress and it was really busy. Probably busier than they expected it to be for a Monday lunch time.

Food was real good though, lots for your money. Would love to try dinner there and see if service is any better.

went there for dinner tonight.
i am glad to find that there is a decent korean restaurant in wellington. i had a dolsot bibimbap for my main, the vegetables used were fresh and the portion size was very generous the beef was seasoned well and the gochujang was particularly good (the only thing that wasnt to my preference was that the egg was served fryed, while i prefer raw egg in my bibimbap).

a standard selection of banchan was provided with the meal (unlike some places in the area that charge extra for them?!?), the banchan was quite nice and the kimchi was very much to my taste, quite sweet and not too bitter.

there was a selection of local wines available on the menu as well as a nice selection of soju. howevery what stood out for me was the bokbunjajaoo, a delicious dark raspberry wine, that i hadnt seen anywhere since i moved to wellington. i would highly reccomend sampling some if you have never had it before.

the prices were very reasonable (my main cost $13, i cant recall what the drinks cost.) and the service was very good. the wait staff were korean (but also very fluent in english). i didnt wait at all to be seated or have my order taken and the food was delivered promptly. i will definently be returning for another meal soon, i will be trying their bulgogi next.

i highly reccomend this place if you like korean. there are not many korean places in wellington and this one deserves our patronage.

kamsahamnida seoul house!

The hot and spicy squid is really good! Very economical too. You can basically make about four meals from it as a takeaway. Really like the side dishes too, esp. the seaweed stem. Mmmmm. The Korean pizza pancake thing is really yummy too.

Hey Guys
I just visited this bank and i think you guys should zone the place, security is tight but there's big money for us if we get in... wait hold up, who is this? Who am I? This isn't a restaurant review...
Sorry about that, I don't know what happened there...
The restaurant Seoul House is mighty fine and the waiter who served us had a lot of soul - if you'll excuse my pun there - he spoke in a deep Yorkshire accent and could have passed for an aging rockstar if it wasn't for a very gay looking-handle bar moustache that sat perched on his top lip. But all I wanted to know was why he was wearing a Colonel Gaddafi mask.
In an effort to boost morale (and to shut us up), our waiter sent us all some fantastic mandu (korean dumpling). Happy days!
All in all the food was great and i the Hite Beer was fantastic.

Seoul House is a large-ish restaurant, which can feel a little cold and impersonal at times. The same can certainly not be said for the food. Think Korean, think hot! hot! hot! I tend to play it safe and order bibim bap, a tasty rice hotpot with veges and beef, or their delicious seafood pancake.. I like chilli but have had too many disappointing experiences at Korean restaurants where the mind was willing but the tastebuds were shrieking "no, no, no, we can't take any more...". Food aside, the other big drawcard of this restaurant is the reasonable prices, particularly given the generous size of the servings.

Service: 3/5
Ambience: 3/5
Food: 4/5
Value for Money: 4/5
