Review Papparich - Wellington

Angela
Good Malaysian food with generously sized portions. PappaRich gets very busy at midday so it’s best to get there a bit earlier or just after the lunch rush as the service can slow down. The egg roti dishes are delicious and the meat very tender.

4pm ...Wandering around the city starving... hesitantly I wandered in, drawn by the modern, bright easy ambience... and the fact it was open. The Malaysian menu looked inviting but dare I admit, I’m not at all adventurous although the menu did look inviting. I was asked to make my selection, fill in my order form then ring the bell when ready. I ordered the Ultimate Chicken sandwich... and it was well worth the wait. Two large pieces of perfectly fried chicken sandwich between the yummiest bread I think I’ve ever had, crisp lettuce, tomato and an egg for good measure. The chips were a meal on there own ... hot crunchy and perfect. The best Sandwich in Wellington 2019-20. WINNER

Dropped in for an early dinner and was pleasantly surprised on quality of Malaysian food and its authorticity. Meal choices from extensive menu were great with many famous Malaysian dishes to choose fron. Excellent service from staff

You get to fill out the dockets yourself and call the wait staff through a buzzer. The food is good, but there are much better Malaysian around. Worth a try, it might suit you.
Shaqtech
Really awesome Malaysian food! Recommend dining in though cause the portion sizes appear to be quite different for takeaway (reason why not 5 stars)

First time tried when me and my hubby went for a trip to Wellington. Had an amazing dinner. Excellent customer service. Highly recommended this place
Krithika Sanjay
Good Malaysian cuisine. Crowded on weekends but excellent service! Would definitely love to come again for some yummy food!

Really big menu with great photos of absolutely everything. Delicious drinks much better drinks selection than any other Malaysia place in town. Although one drink came before the food and one after. The nasi lemak had all the flavour elements and matched picture but chicken was a bit cold. Char kway teow was not bad, bit plain, prefer elsewhere. Steamed bun with butter and kaya was good.

Always go for the chicken curry and roti. Never had a bad one here! I have had several other dishes and they have been great too but nothing beats the go to for a quick and tasty Maylasian curry!
Timmy Toppy
Food tasted average but consistent with the rest of the franchise. Will go back there for Malaysian food fix. Price is on the high side.

This is a chain restaurant so expect consistency. The food is consistently adequate and is not the best Malaysian food in Wellington. It is also reasonably expensive which likely infuriates the aunties from Penang. However like any other PapaRich formula it is consistently tasty, consistently clean and the staff are consistently friendly and fast. Also toilets are consistently tidy for an Asian restaurant. The serving sizes are ok but you leave part satisfied with room wanting more.

Great place for lunch. Nice food. Only comment when ordered a hot the trail, it was not hot. Beside this all ok.

Highly recommended. Love this restaurant so much

Food are great here. Had the opportunity to meet the boss who was of great help with the house recommendation. Service was good as well. Be prepared to wait though.

Nice environment, yummy food, a little bit prizy, very good overall.

One of my regular place for Malaysian food, it is definitely the best at that end of the CBD.

Ordered this during Level 2 lockdown as a takeaway option with Uber eats.

It was made quickly.

I’ve had a few Laksas in my time and this was up there. Tasted authentic, I liked the fried tofu, it was really crispy and not adding the soup to a take away order is genius. Because it lets stay fresh.

Definitely a good idea to put into a larger bowl. Just let’s the noodles break up.

Could maybe have had a little more chicken but that’s a personal preference.

Overall I give it a 4. Was good and I would go back :)

Enjoy the chicken curry laksa, had good portions of chicken + noodles 🍜and the coconut 🥥 curry soup was well seasoned. Loved the curry chicken pieces, glad it was boneless and not overcooked 🙂

Service was friendly and the food was out fairly quickly. Would definitely visit again to try out the dry noodle/roti canal dishes.

If only they had a better manager, our experience could have been better. My chicken skins were stone cold and stretched while chewing. I asked for them to be served hot, imagine eating something fried cold. The waiter who barely understood any English took my place and brought it back in 2-3 minutes. The skins were lukewarm but were even more stretchy now. I have no idea what they had done but they definitely were not a fresh batch. I asked to speak to the manager and informed the issue.

The manager had a surprising attitude for someone in the service industry. To begin with, he was confrontational, spoke very loudly in an almost intimidating manner and refused to do anything about the situation and began educating us for about 2-3 minutes non-stop. I was in shock, as I had in the past worked in the service industry and was taught high levels of customer service. It was a pathetic experience with a lack of empathy and complete defensiveness, in the end, I had to pack the skins and feed them to my host's dog. A $75 meal wasted all around.

Also, for those thinking this is an authentic restaurant, nope, this is nothing like authentic and all food is just reheated and served(opinion derived from our experience), so STAY AWAY AND LOOK FOR OTHER PLACES WITH A 4+ RATING.

Ordered the milo dinasaur and the beef rendang with roti canai dhal and sambhal. Heard sooooo much about the milo can’t believe it’s taken me this long!! Even though it was iced it was warm at the bottom and was loaded with milo which you can never complain about. The beef rendang was soooo tender and juicy even though it came out quickly that sambhal added a nice spicy element to it. Relatively cheap for what you get

Went today and ordered crispy noodles. Waited nearly an hour for my meal and eventually received what looked like bad tasteless soup which I sent back. Worse meal ever.
Kate.mcpherson123
The food was pretty tasty and quick to come. However, the way the restaurant runs is kind of odd and I personally didn't enjoy writing down my order and pressing a button to have a server come over
Tushar Panchal
Great food. Went here with colleagues for a work lunch and everyone enjoyed their meal. Would definitely visit again soon with family and friends.
Decor of the place is very pleasant too.

Pricing is ridiculously cheap, and the food is pretty good! You had me at deep fried chicken skin. Great place for all occasions, brunch, lunch or dinner. Super quick service!

We have been going to this place since it first opened and honesty the food is not the same anymore 😔. We went there few days back & our chicken skin wasn’t fresh though we got told it was but we were not happy so got it sent back , my mums chicken leg on the plate looked like it was from previous night leftover, dry and flaky & the rice had no taste and was so dry. The drinks were delicious as always and so were the roti’s and dhal. And no we won’t be going back unless we want to eat Roti & drink coconut paradise!! Very unpleasant experience with food sad to say.
Xu Mona
Very tasty food, i had it on new year's eve when all the restaurants on the quay are fully booked. Very impressive place, will go back this week again😀

Best Malaysian restaurant in Welly. Not only the foods but also the drinks are wonderful. Basically each dish that I’ve ordered was delicious, it is difficult for me to take order every time, since I want to eat them all

Was fortunate enough to have the Papparich experience through the recommendation of my boss - awesome choices, love the drink range ( saw the Milo option and know my son will definitely order it the next visit) and who ever knew that peanut butter on toast could be so yummy - looking forward to my next visit but this time with my family. Excellent staff and matching service

Perfect service and delicious food! Ordered the food and just waited for 8mins. Their services are super fast and friendly.
Food was so authentic, exactly the same as what I tasted in Malacca!

Overall is okay, but my husband not liking his crispy egg noodle N14. It’s hard noodle and less taste.
My char koew tuew is good, ordered the sambal paste E08 $1.50 Attached photo(wellington menu) $1.60( Auckland menu).
Funny right, and the Portion is bigger than Auckland outlet😅. sent the photo to show our friends, they were like WTH?!?!

The wait for food was too long, the wait staff indicated a 20 min wait for our order that arrived after 40 mins and that too after repeated requests. The wait staff is ill equipped to handle large volumes and don’t give a straight answer about the order status.
The food itself is quite bland.
Will not recommend this place to anybody.

Had lunch here today before it got packed - there is so many options for lunch it’s fantastic- I got the RO5 (papa special Nasi lemak & prawn sambal ) with a plain roti which had delicious flavour, had a generous portion of everything but it wasn’t as warm / hot (temperature wise) as I would have liked it. Service was good also. Will be back to try a laksa next time.

It was not a good night at PappaRich tonight. Arrived at 6pm, handed our order in at 610 our waiter told us that they had no chicken satay - it was only 610 pm but ok we will take the beef. A half hour later there was no sign of any of our order. We asked and were told it was coming. 10 minutes later they drop our bill to the table - we still had seen nothing of our order. 50 mins after we arrived a piece of toast with peanut butter arrived then the rest of our meal arrived over the course of the next 15 mins. 3 tables (1 a family of 5) sat down after us, ordered, ate and left before we started getting our meal. I won’t tell you about the dessert - we probably deserved to watch our banana split melt on the pass for 10 mins before we actually got to eat it. And the prices are just too expensive. Not a good night at all.

I’ve moved to Wellington for 3 years and this is literally the worst dining experience I’ve had here. They’re clearly understaffed at lunch time - took 10 minutes for someone to take my order after I pressed the calling button about 5 times. Another 40 minutes for my food to arrive. Wait, that's not the worst part. The owner of the place, the old woman, is a big fat RACIST. When she was serving the meals to the kiwi couple sitting next to me, she went with a big smile and a “so sorry for the long wait” apology. When my food was served, it was just a “hi” to call my attention then the plate was dropped on the table, and she simply walked away with a straight face.

Shame on them. They don’t deserve business here. I will never ever step in this place until the day it changes owner, and I will always vote no to any group dinner that considers this place as an option.
Sheryl
The food was extremely bland, the portion was teeny and the food looks totally different to the images displayed. I tried the chicken biryani and red prawn curry
Lily Anne
Love love the drinks. Service is great and the food is amazing although waiting time can be awfully long regardless of how busy/empty it is.

Love the laksa, coffee jelly milk tea, chicken rendang and another noodle dish (cant remember the name) everything was tasty. Staff friendly, polite, accomodating. Place really nice and clean. Menu has lots of photos too.

4.5/5 Taste
4.5/5 Display
3.5/5 Quantity
4/5 Customer Service

Malaysian Restaurant with superb serving system

You write down what you want and ring the bell to hand them in, fast in fast serve fast out, and their desserts are amazing especially the buns.

I definitely enjoyed PappaRich! When you walk in, you are greeted by very friendly staff. We didn’t have to wait long after we ordered our food which is a plus! Although the prices of the food are a bit on the pricey side, they do give it in large portions. It is quite popular during lunch time so it may be a bit of a wait to get a seat if you come in during that time. The service the staff gave was great and the food was even greater. Would highly recommend if you are going with you family or with friends!

Large portion sizes, authentic Asian flavours, one order is normally enough to share between two unless you're extra hungry. I have been here at least 4x in the past 6 months but only reviewed it now after being able to bring my family along and trying their other dishes. They shine best with their Malaysian offerings. The noodles we had (likely Malay-Chinese were alright, but nothing I couldn't have ordered at a Chinese takeaway). But the Beef Rendang, Sambal prawns, Sambal eggplant with the coconut rice is comfort food at its best. Leave room for dessert too, they've got a staple Asian dessert called ABC special (in the Philippines we call it halo halo). Theirs is similarly made with shaved ice and creamed corn and sweet beans, but theirs also has grass jelly, rose syrup, cream/evap milk and you can choose to have a scoop of ice cream with it. They've also got their version of fried bananas with ice cream on the side. Very tasty.
Sally
Busy little place which is always a good sign. The ordering of meals is a bit strange, we watched quite a few people try and place their orders verbally, but you need to write them down on the form at the table. We ordered for lunch the Roti with Beef Rendang and Nasi Goreng with fried chicken. There was 10 minute wait between the first meal arriving and the second meal arriving but they were good meals and enjoyed by both people. Their signature cold drinks are also worth a try.

First time at a Papparich and it is the best Malaysian I have had so far. Fast service. Refreshing drinks. Will definitely be coming back here.

We were here at Boxing Day night around 7:20.
Restaurant was not busy but service was extremely slow.
We were basically sitting there waiting forever.
Manager was very careless; nobody cares customers!
Staff at one moment was cleaning the table then went to kitchen to serve dish straight AWAY next min!!!
Dun’t think will ever came back again.
Inuneko
Went to this restaurant with my family. We shared fried chicken, and then individually ordered our main and dessert. We enjoyed everything. I ordered chicken rice and it tasted good!
Generally they serve value-for-money authentic Malaysian dishes and the waiters/waitresses are very attentive, friendly, and quick to respond.
We liked it and will definitely revisit the place.
Foodie Fables
Over priced for average food. Went for the chicken skin and they were out. Their menu is large , service is strange as you choose your food push a button and a waiter comes. Problem was we went at lunch time and there were only three staff during a full house lunch time rush & everyone was pushing their buttons so it was over riding everyone’s requests , we sat there for 15 minutes & were not attended to because of their button system.

Top 3 asian restaurant in wellington, if not the best, great service too! Superb congee, delicious crispy chicken skin, awesome crispy egg noodle, incredible chicken rice, and amazing tofu dessert!👍🏼👌🏼

Went here this weekend and everything was well worth it! We got chicken skin for entree which was very crispy and tasty, nasi goreng with fried chicken for main, lychee which was very refreshing, and their kacang with black sesame ice cream for dessert. I eat big but their servings are bigger. At the end of the meal, I was so full I couldn't finish the dessert although it was good. I would totally recommend and come back here again
Sally
Interesting coffees. Lakes was huge, and tasty. Fried Banana is absolutely delicious!! Get in early to this place coz it fills up super fast at lunch time or dinner. Be prepared to wait otherwise.

I LOVED it and MY tummy LOVED it.
Highly Recommended Iced KOPI, Must Have!
BE Prepare for 45mins long wait for a table during weekend for dine in (yes, is crazy and I don't like it).
:: store visit 1/10/17 | Sunday | 7:15PM | WLG

Really disappointed with the service and communication/usefulness of the staff here. I came tonight with my partner and it was quite busy despite it being a Thursday at 7.30pm, but we managed to get seated by staff after about 5 minutes.

We sat down, ordered our food which was communicated to the staff and they took the order off to the kitchen. They came back 10 minutes later and said that they were all out of laksa (which is the main reason we came to this restaurant tbh). So we reluctantly ordered something else off the menu, they took the order and went to the kitchen. Another 10 minutes passed and again the server came back and said they were out of both dishes that we had ordered.

What was disappointing was not that they were out of the multiple dishes we had ordered, but the fact that they failed to mention that they were out of laksa when we first arrived at the restaurant - arguably one of the most sought-after dishes, and again the fact that multiple times they failed to mention to us that they didn't have the dishes that we ordered, and that the servers didn't seem to know what the kitchen did and didn't have.

Although what was strange was that multiple other patrons around us arrived maybe 30-40 minutes after us, and the staff obviously knew that they were out of quite a few dishes, but still let the patrons sit down and order, and then again only returned to the table to inform the patrons that they were out of the dishes. Very strange and disappointing service - quite obvious that they were trying to get people in the door and make them order and only inform them that they are out of dishes after they have already ordered other dishes.

The overall service was quite slow, our drinks and food were left sitting on the counter for 10+ minutes until they came to our table. The staff were quite stingy with the bill - they had a promotion where if you spent over $30 on your meal, you could pick out an envelope and win something free on the menu. The people in front of us ordered around $58 worth of food between the 2 of them, quite clearly over the $30 threshold, but because they split the bill between 2, their totals came out to under $30 each and the staff were very adamant that they weren't eligible for a free item. We got a free drink because our bill came to $60, but it seemed a bit stingy that they didn't want to give a free drink promotion (the equivalent of $7.90 most likely) to these people who spent the same amount.

Overall was a disappointing experience, and I ended up hating the dish that I ate (my 3rd choice out of a limited remainder left on the menu that they still had available) and probably had a few mouthfuls before heading to McDonald's to find something more worthwhile. Wouldn't recommend and definitely would not rush to go back.

Heart eye emoji!!! 😍😍😍

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! Massive as portions. Recommend the R01 chicken rice with steamed chicken if you're a big eater. You'll need to loosen that belt a few notches if you want to try and eat it all! Ladies - If you're wearing a bodycon dress be prepared for a 5 month "food baby". 😝

Second time I dined I had the C01 roti canai with sauce. Amayzo! It comes with Dahl, curry sauce and sambal. The roti must be made in house as they're crispy on the outside and "fluffy" on the inside. (can't stand stodgy doughy ones!) As for The MF25 drink, (Teh Tarek with coffee jelly) if you like the taste of original flavour bubble tea - this one's for you (request it strong ✊). Big ups to Ben the drinks maker this evening your jelly ratio was en pointe!

Ordering is quite unique - write down your codes and press a button for service. Our waiter this evening spotted it was cheaper for me to order a roti meal than my individual roti and sauces. What a nice guy! Will definitely be back, I cannot wait to eat my way round the menu!!!
Jaffa
Amazing find in wellington city! Quick, fast and authentic tasting... I would highly recommend!
The roti was one of the best I have ever had with Dahl, sambal and rendang! Definitely keen to eat her again soon!

This is the closest you can come to experiencing the truly amazing and unique Malaysian cuisine. I had to come here a few times just to try everything I wanted to, and there are still many more things on the menu I want to try! The service is standard but definitely not slow. The staff are very available with a call button on each table. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to experience Malaysian cuisine.
Coco
Love this place! Food was absolutely delish. Decent price and decent portions! Drinks are very different from ones I've had around. Dessert here is a must try. The shaved ice with green tea would be divine on a hot day!

Arrived papparich at around 12ish and the store was nearly full. Fortunately we found the last table to sit down.
I ordered a curry egg noodles with streamed chicken. The chicken was so tasty and proportion was fairly good. The milky tea was perfect.
Really enjoyed our meals and it was definitely one of my favorite Malaysia restaurants
Kjanpants
Great value for money. Large portions, very tasty food and friendly staff. Food came out quickly despite a lot of people at the restaurant. The only downside was that the heating was up quite high. Felt super hot inside. Would definitely go back for another meal!
FoodieLady
Loved everything! Staff was friendly and good decor. Bathrooms could be cleaner, they just looked old too. Priced reasonably.

Food was amazing (had curry laksa as my main), I would recommend taking advantage of the combo so you can try a bit of everything.

Lunched here today at the PapaRich in Wellington. The place was packed with predominantly young Asian diners as we arrived. Waited at the door for approximately 10 minutes before we were directed to our table right by the front door.

Anyway the four courses that we ordered I have to say was really delicious and a real taste treat. Each course had its own distinctive taste. I have to say the best Malaysian food in Wellington or if not even better than the food I tasted in KL when we were there a couple years ago.

We ordered a Chicken Curry Laksa, an Assam Laksa, a Fry Kwei Dow, and a Har Mein.
Service was brisk, friendly, and courteous.

We look forward to doing here again soon and have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful Malaysian restaurant to everyone else.
Dguangquan1982
have been a regular customer to paparich. At the begining , it felt good to see there are so much drinks selection and also the dishes tasted good. However, they added some new dishes which said "available soon", it took like more than 2months and the new dishes still unavailable. We felt quite disappointed as we were hoping to try sth new there, but it seems like it will take forever.if the new products are not coming soon, it is better that you didnt list them so early?

This is fast becoming a favourite spot for me when im in Wellington. The Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry with Prawn is absolutely delicious, the flavour and aroma is sheer perfection. The portion sizes are very generous and at $53 for two mains with a juice each , very affordable. I like the ordering system, you tick what you want on a form and push a buzzer for the waitron to collect when you are ready to order which is nice as i like to peruse menus.
Anant
Has to be one of the best Malaysian restaurants I have been in too. Roti canai was excellent. The chicken gravy on the side could have better but wasnt bad. The elderly lady host was forthcoming and very friendly. Ambience is pleasing and subtle.
Banana split was pleasantly surprising. A must recommend for someone looking for some gold Malaysian restaurants in town.
Anton Geikie
I ate Nasi Lemak with chicken curry and prawn sambal and overall it was tasty, but the food wasn't hot, the rice was lacking coconut and the chilli was very toned down.

I will be going back though.
Rachael Trudgeon
Very authentic Malaysian food. Busy and noisy atmosphere but that makes it work so well. Ordering is a treat. Good place that will always be busy I imagine!

While my first time at PappaRich was enjoyable, the second time was anything but. The food was good enough, but it was the service that really let the place down.

My partner and I decided to go for lunch and upon arrival, a male waiter ushered us to a table that was still dirty, even though there were plenty of other clean tables available. He took the time to explain the ordering process to my partner and I, but that's pretty much where the good ended.

It took 15 minutes for anyone to come to the table, which was a little confounding considering all they have to do is pick up a slip. Bear in mind this was at quarter to two, so well after the lunch rush and the restaurant was fairly quiet.

After that it was a waiting game. I had ordered the jasmine rice special and a drink for my partner, but after thirty minutes only my food had arrived, even though the next table over who had arrived after us were served at the same time. I mentioned that we were still waiting for a drink to the waiter, who merely smiled and walked away.

10 minutes later we asked another waiter where it was, they said it was being made. It still hadn't come by the time I had finished my meal. I don't think I've ever been anywhere that takes an hour to make a drink, never going back.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
There is an odd dearth of mid week mid-range dinner dining options in town and the only eating places I came across were fast food joints or European fine diners. Just when I thought I'd have to resort to a microwave meal from Countdown, I happened upon PappaRich so enjoyed the dry curry egg noodle with steamed chicken. I appreciate how the curry is served on the side as I quite like the noodles without it.

I would have rated the restaurant higher but found it odd that despite the restaurant being more or less empty, was asked to move to a table ensconced between the only other three tables with people dining, apart from a group of four in the middle of the restaurant. Admittedly, I was a solo diner seated at a table of four but there were plenty other tables of four available and no other people arrived to dine while I was there. Sometimes, staff need to use their discretion. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable meal, and service was attentive.
Heather Ngamanu
Hubby and I both had the chicken laksa and we found it pretty meh. Good flavour but could have done with more chicken and there was no hard boiled egg. I'm not sure if the hard boiled egg is a standard ingredient, but I've always had one in all my previous laksa' s. I still consider The Long Bar laksa the best
Roti was also very different as it kinda tasted and resembled a bread like panini.
Sago pudding was nice 😊
Went to see what the fuss was all about. Pretty much the Mcdonalds of malaysian food. Tried their Laksa as I find this tends to be the benchmark of malaysian food. Was OK nothing to justify the $15 plus price tag and I have tried most Laksa's in Wellington. Lucky for me Wellington has a lot of Malaysian eateries and I know a few that would cream this place.
Vicki Wong
Great malaysian eatery! After seeing PappaRich's foodgasm photos all over social media a friend and I made an effort to try it out. When we arrived we were overwhelmed with the choices with over 160 items on the menu we didnt know where to start?! In the end we ordered the Ipoh Kuay Teow Steam Chic and the Dry Kuay Teow Steam Chic. Both had heaps of flavour and massive portions! We probably vould have just ordered one between us. We also had a side of the crispy chicken skin after seeing it online. Guilty pleasure. I also hear the curry laksa is good too. I will be back to try out the extensive drinks menu and also the Tau fu Fa.

Been here multiple times and you know Paparich will not fail you - we have tried Laksa, roti, chicken rice, stir fried noddles, various drinks

Atmosphere: Busy and bustling place especially during meal time. Child friendly with high chair
Service: Fast service and food comes out really quick
Food: Full of flavour for all the dishes. Authentic Malaysian food with standard across it's chain stores. Wide selection of drinks.
Price / Portion: Cheap for its portion size

Verdict: Will always be back and it is always a safe choice and know you won't be disappointed
Jimon007
Have tried Malaysian and heard about this place. So have been there 3 times. This place is busy and food taste was good. There are good selection of drink. Watch out as you may end up spend more money than you intend to do. To sum up, a good place to try Malysian cuisine

Followed my nose to an authentic(ish) chicken rice place.

Hainan chicken rice is in my top ten favourite dishes of all time list. I will go out of my way (one drove for over an hour) for a good chicken rice meal!

When I saw the reviews for a new Malaysian in Welly with fresh made roti chanai and a featured chicken rice, I knew it had to be my next stop. 🤗

I dragged my partner (he had already eaten) to Papparich today for lunch. He was only going to have a coffee, but upon viewing the menu ordered a full meal.

The restaurant was not full, but was still lively and felt like I was back in Kualu Lumpur or my favourite Malay back in Vancouver. I loved it!

I glazed over the menu (I already knew my order wpuld be chicken rice). But I also added a freshly made roti chanai served with three sauces (chutney, curry, dahl). My partner had the sambal chicken.

The ordering system is efficient but not very personable. You write your order on the order pad and push a call button to have it picked up.

The chicken rice came out first and it looked good (except for the fact it was breast meat). The rice was lovely and fluffy with a nice chicken stock flavour. The chicken itself was only okay. I expect certain things:
1. Cold chicken = The chicken was warm.
2. Tight and chewy skin = The skin was slightly mushy.
3. Dark meat = I got the less flavourful white meat.
4. A sweet soy sauce and sesamw oil with a ginger hot chili sauce = It came with a think soy glaze on the side and a perfect chili sauce. I would have bought a bottle of the chili sauce.
If my score was based solely on the chicken, it would be a 3.

But the sambal chicken was so tasty. It came with a biryani style rice and spicy eggplant. Delicious!

The roti chanai took a while to come out, but was worth the wait. Made fresh in house it was perfect. Fluffy, crispy, layered, and slightly chewy. The sauces were equally as good. I will be back for this dish many times! This dish is a 5 in itself.

Next time I'm trying the laksa.

Christian
I have been to the one in Auckland so this was the first time visiting Wellington branch. The shop deco was light and welcoming. Staff were really friendly and good was really good too. The price was more expensive than that in Auckland but this seems to be the case for most Wellington restaurants.
Daisy Smith
A neat place to catch up with friends! Ordered the vegetarian sweet and sour (soy) chicken, and was really impressed by how much it tasted like actual chicken! Food was tasty but I felt there wasn't enough of it to justify the price, and drinks weren't terribly big either. Not sure if I would come again.
EpiCurious
Damn good laksa! The chicken was a little light - but the flavour and noodles were fantastic, as were the generous chunks of fresh eggplant and tofu. The service is quick and friendly. Would like to see an alternate dip than sweet chilli for the deep fried chicken skin but that's probably me not being authentic.
Linshiqin829
The food is nice, the price is reasonable. Umm, it's a lovely place. The food is coming quick, and the service is nice too. I really love the banana rotti, wow~~~~
BethHolden
Came in for lunch and we were all really pleased with the range in the menu.
However the food was very heavy and left us all feeling uncomfortably full for the whole afternoon and service was a little confusing, the ordering system is great but I had to ask three different people to have the leftovers put into a takeaway container before I was presented with a plastic container to put the food in myself.
Not sure if I'd go back, it doesn't necessarily seem worthwhile for the queue you'll probably have to wait in.

Popped in for lunch during the weekend. Was very busy but not a long wait, only 5 mins! Love the ordering system. Ordered 2 iced beverages - the Pappa cham with coffee jelly was sooo good!! Had the biryani rice special, the roti telur with beef rendang and the roti bom. The roti were crispy and freshly made. A bit on the pricy side but would definitely go again!!

Have been to Papparich four times since it opened and have been impressed each time. The friends I've been with have been equally impressed. The service is warm friendly and efficient. The food is great, very authentic. Could do with more ingredients though, but good regardless. Will definitely be back.

Great atmosphere and very central. Great service too which is not typical for many asian restaurants. Had the char kuwey tiaw. The looks was wrong already- reddish colour instead of brown. The sauce as expected was NOT char kuwey tiaw at all. Worst were the noodles which were dry and obviously not fresh. Huge dissapointment.

The location is great for lunch during working days, the restaurant looks very clean, bright and chic. Always came during busy times but still got impressed by how quick the staff responded on waiting list. There are more than enough options on entrée, main, soup and drinks. The food was served very quickly and the taste are above average. My favourite is the Nasi Lemak with chicken curry and chilli prawn. Less favourite? Biryani, just because there are tiny bits and pieces of strong flavoured herbs in the rice that would make a great difference if they weren't there. The place as a whole is a great joy. Recommended for lunch ;)

Actually ate twice today. The food is good. I quite like Roti especially telur bawang. Interesting thing happened. They forgot to serve one of our dish. Since my wife/daughter finished their dishes was in no mood to hang. I was leaving without a fuss but obviously disappointed. But the apology was genuine and they didn't charge for the coffee and one main. That was good gesture. I would hv given a 4 but cannot ignore the fact they forgot about my dish. But I will come back again as there are lots of variety especially the half boiled eggs and congee.

Do I recommend? Yes, definitely.

Stopped in today for a lunch with two friends. The lady (I think an owner) showed us to our seats, advised on how to order using the ticket and bell system and flipped us through the menus - already outstanding service, good start. The decor is nice, different from most other asian restaurants, the fitout looks high end and tasteful. Around the table we had a range of different dishes including ipoh koay teow, pappa char koay teow, biryani rice, roti and a few drinks. Everything came out pretty fast and was presented really well. The char koay teow was ok, a little less flavour than I expected but pretty authentic I was advised... (I compared this dish to little penang). Its a good location, good decor and I would happily return. I think its a little pricey but for this end of the city and its location it is to be expected.

Went there for lunch, it was very busy but we got seated relatively quickly. Service was good, food was also good. Love the variety of drinks. A bit on the pricier side for one dish meals.

Service was poor and very unwelcoming. After sitting for quit a while I had to get up and ask for water.....then they brought a dirty cup so had to get up and find a clean one! The food was average and for the price I expected something better than a chop and fry.

Not recommended at all and I will not be returning.

We came on a Wednesday evening and arrived at 5:15, when we left just over an hour later it was packed so it's still a good idea to come early to this newly opened restaurant. We really liked the ordering system, writing the number of each item on the paper and pressing the buzzer to hand it over to the waitress, it gave us plenty of time to mull over the very large menu. We had delicious fruity drinks, tropical lime and lychee soda. The roti was light and crispy, definitely recommended. Our mains were dry noodles with curry chicken and biryani rice, beef rendang and fried chicken. The curry chicken was spicier than expected but overall a really nice dish. We also wanted to try the sweet dishes so we ordered a banana split, roti bom, and toast with sweetened condensed milk. The breads were delicious, the banana split was nothing special but exactly as expected. I would love to go back, only two complaints - no knives are provided, only forks, spoons, and chopsticks. Also because of the ordering method you have to order separately if you want distinct entree, mains, dessert as otherwise everything arrives at the same time.

Arrived for a spot of brunch on a Saturday morning just after their opening hours. We managed to get a table right away, however if we had left it 30 mins later, we would have been queuing outside.

We ordered a few dishes to share and taste. Some of the dishes were delicious, while others were not so.

Service was good, but not great. We had ordered a banana roti to come after our mains, and the waiter came back several times to confirm a few things. Water was only provided upon request.

Quite a family oriented restaurant where they have more than a couple of high chairs available.

Recommended dishes that I have tried, Laksa, chicken curry nasi lemak and banana roti.

Please check out my website for an indepth review.

Went there for lunch. Food was cold so we had to return plates and had to wait 15 more minutes for new food. This was not a pleasant experience.

Just a few days ago, PappaRich opened its door in Wellington for the first time. It is a Malaysian restaurant chain that aims at recreating authentic Malaysian cuisine using age-old recipes. PappaRich, with over 125 restaurants around the world, drew out the Asian community from the darkest corners and my oh my, did it deliver or what!

Checked out this place this noon as friends strongly recommended. It was packed and we had to wait outside for a while. We put down what we would go for by ourselves, but the service was prompt. We ordered nasi lemak with fried chicken. I quite like it cuz it was not dry and skin was a bit crispy. The other dish were special nasi lemak and curry lakasa with chicken. It has a wide range of drinks. We also had milk tea which was good too. The price was a bit higher than others maybe because of the brand. I will definitely come back again and try more dishes.

With a vibrant atmosphere, PapaRich was packed out when we arrived on their opening Saturday night.

Coming in with a group of 6, we ordered the Assam Laksa, Seafood Curry Laksa, Ipoy Kway Teow noodle soup and some curry chicken Nasi Lemaks. We had our orders promptly taken and although they were super busy, our waitress was kind enough to go through the menu for some members of our group. Our orders took around 10-15 minutes to arrive and in terms of presentation, our food looked stupendous.

In terms of taste, however, PapaRich left a lot to be desired. My friend commented that the Ipoh Kway Teow broth was bland with barely any taste. The Curry Laksa had generous amounts of seafood which was fantastic and my friend said he would order the dish again. The Nasi Lemak was decent; their chicken was tender and had a strong curry flavour. However their Assam Laksa was rubbish, apologise for the gauche wording but honestly the worst Assam Laksa I’ve tasted in Wellington. There was a distinct lack of flavour and the dish came out rather cold.

There are some strong positives about PapaRich nonetheless: they have a wonderful selection of drinks that you wouldn’t normally get: we ordered a Bandung and a Barley which weren’t the most authentic but well tasting enough.

Overall I think PapaRich will definitely appeal to the Wellington market as they have quite an extensive selection of meals and the ambience is fantastic.

But if you are after some real authentic Malaysian food, then I would suggest you turn your attention to Little Penang or Satay Palace.

Showstopper: Flashy store and extensive menu.

Overall Grade: B
