Cheap, tasty and generous portions. Really feels like Wellington has forgotten this gem on Cuba st. It can be a little dingy, but the friendly staff and great food makes up for that.

Great food! Portion size, price, quality and flavour are amazing. Great service, friendly and helpful staff, and there's never a long wait for food. I always make the effort to stop in for a Nasi Goreng or Laksa whenever I visit Wellington, 1 of my all time favourite places to eat

A great spot if you are hungry! I had the pad thai and it was delicious. Some of my party struggled to use their chopsticks and made a horrible mess. 5 stars. Im off for a nap now under my desk.

Great price for wellington I thought, the food was delicious. Service was lovely and the food was brought out very quickly. We’ll definitely be back.

This is a truly hidden gem of Cuba! I have come here often to enjoy their cheap meals, always of an amazing quality and a nice central spot that hasnt changed much over the years. A nice hideaway spot if you are looking for something to eat around town that isnt your usual burger! :)

The food and customer service is really good. And the window view after a long day with authentic taste food is what i really wanted. The soup is so good. And would like to visit again.

We went so late but they served us some delicious food ! The staff was so nice ! We definitely recommend to try it ☺️

I go here often, at least once a week. Food is always great, staff are super super friendly and the prices are ok. Highly recommend this place, its nothing flash but better than most of the flash asian restaurants. Great for kids, We bring our 6yr old daughter and she always loves the food.

I recently had an exceptional dining experience at The Oaks. The warm and inviting atmosphere, attentive service, and delectable cuisine made it truly outstanding. From the knowledgeable waitstaff to the unique authentic dishes, each bite was a symphony of flavours. The Nasi Goreng was a revelation, combining curry in a harmonious blend. The nostalgic and charming ambiance added to the overall experience. I highly recommend The Oaks for anyone seeking a nostalgic dining experience. It's a true gem in the city.

The Oaks Satay Noodle House is one of those Wellington staples where you come for the rustic familiarity rather than any overinflated expectation of quality. The food is exactly as you expect, no frills required. I return back up the rickety stairs again and again for their chicken nasi goreng (hot). Is it the fanciest? No. Is it the most authentic? No. Is a main ingredient Watties frozen mixed veg? I suspect yes. But for me this is what my brain recognises as nasi goreng and I have never found a better, tastier version anywhere else.

Always love to visit this hidden gem. The decor is kind of average and nothing fancy but that does not detract from the overall experience. They have a good selection available on the menu, food is well priced with deliciously large portions, topped off with some very friendly and helpful staff.

It’s a very long time since I was last here. I’m pleased it is still here, pleased the food is still delicious and pleased the joy of a window seat looking out over Cuba St is undiminished. Vege curry with roti is pictured. Recommend adding a bowl of rice to go with it

Just randomly chose this place for lunch. It’s legit amazing. The basic chicken soup is mind blowing good. We also had the char keow teow and marinated chicken rice. Both amazing.

Good affordable food, very consistent. Service is very good. Nice and cosy place.

This place hasn't changed in years. They surely could do with a coat of paint and new carpeting at least. Food was acceptable but used to be much better. I ordered sweet & sour pork and the battered pork pieces were a bit burnt, as if they were heated up in a pan before mixing with the source. I truly like this place and used to be my lunch spot back when I worked in town. Since my last visit, I might give it some time before returning, sorry.

Yum yum and yum. Not much of a place to look at but who cares when it taste this good and authentic. Definitely a hidden jem. Don't get suckered by fancy when simple is best! Menu is diverse enough to please most.

I love the simplicity of Oaks. It is quick, filling and cheap. It has been our regular whenever we're around the city looking for a quick bite to eat. We particularly love their nasi goreng, chicken curry and fried chicken.

Real family owned and run business where the food reflects the care and attention.

Unplanned visit to The Oaks Satay Noodle House. Evethough it looked a bit dingy, sometimes these are the best kinds as the food is guaranteed to be authentic and nothing like you’ve ever tasted. But I guess on this occasion this was not the case. We ordered the green curry with rice and tom yum soup with rice. The green curry wasnt all that but all I could taste was the coconut, like the curry had been diluted with water. The tom yum really caught me by surprise, $14.40 for 4-5 shrimps and a whole bunch of sliced celery and sprouts. I did ask for medium spiciness but I dont think that meant less flavour or taste. It tasted like water. I also had to send the shrimps back to be cooked more as they were very greyish and translucent looking. I just needed it more cooked? Anyway, I literally had a few pieces of shrimp and a spoonful of rice and that was my dinner. Sorry but it wasn’t a good experience.

Portion sizes here are great! The staff are lovely and even more so if you become a regular (like me!) The food is good too, some meals are hit and miss depending on your taste but the majority of time I've been here it's been really tasty, hits the spot ~

Great place for you to have lunch or a (really) casual dinner date, watch non-stop Cuba Street while enjoy your meal 🇲🇾

------> My go-to meal is Chicken Pad Thai (extra spicy)
Sheryl
The food was actually quite nice! Totally satisfied cravings!

I totally recommend 17A (the chicken wonton soup) and 38 (Singaporean fried noodles).

Do go and check them out!

Bought 4 lots of takeaway noodle soup for the family and found the noodles and soup were not separated when I got home. The soup had absorbed into the noodles leaving very little soup (75-100mls!) and mushy noodles, the remaining soup had become thick from the noodle starch. Not sure why they don't separate the soup, should be common knowledge for a noodle house and the only place I encountered that doesn't separate takeaway noodle soup. We did ring and request them be remade but they refused, poor customer service. Were looking forward to a hot soup on a winter night instead we wasted $50.

Initially went in for the spicy beef brisket soup but ended up ordering a laksa instead. I wasn't expecting much but the laksa wasn't bad! They let me swap my noodles to thick rice noodles so A+ for service! Food is of a decent size and reflects pricing.

I found the black bean rice meal & laksa to be very bland & average, & not really fresh or that good value for money compared to other options eg capital market
Hanna
I went here with my friend. I had the seafood laksa which I thought was creamy with the perfect amount of heat and they have huge portion, very filling. It reminded me of home. Great place, definitely will be back. Worth your money.

I have been to this place many times and it never fails to amaze me. I usually order the marinated chicken on rice or nasi goreng. Today, me and my friend have decided to go there for dinner and we ordered casserole brisket soup and beef and meatball soup and both dishes were very delicious! You get a good portion for the price you pay for, which is pretty cheap.

I'm addicted to their Nasi Goreng! Very fast good service and friendly staff. A good atmosphere looking out onto Cuba street. Check it out for some good Malaysian food!
Aly
Love the Oaks!! My fave dish is the hawaiian fried rice. Very generous portion sizes. I can never seem to finish the medium sized plate. Also very afforadle, if I could I would eat here all the time but I live 20 mins drive away :(

I regularly visit this restaurant with my workmates or by myself to either dine in or takeout the #36 Lort Cha - Cambodian Noodles with Chicken meal. Delicious and well prepared. A must try for noodles lovers. Meal price is pretty reasonable at approximately $12 a meal and located on Cuba St, it's in the heart of the city. I must rate the service provided here to be one of the best. 5 stars for Service Level - as you'll always be greeted by a genuinely friendly and smiley face.

The Oaks Satay Noodle House has been around for a long time in an otherwise desolate former retail space. This is testament to what they do well: quality cheap and cheerful food. The menu is extensive and features all the usual Malaysian food suspects with some specialty dishes. The pork wonton soup with egg glass noodles is delicious and great value at $11. The portion size is so big that I couldn't finish it for lunch. There is a 4%(!) surcharge if you want to pay by credit card, which is probably their way of saying "bring cash" or just use EFTPOS and don't get caught out.

A colleague made me aware of the existence of this place and I'm glad he did! For the most part, you'll find the usual suspects somewhere between dish #1-#42.

The first time I came here, I had the Nasi Goreng and I've struggled (unsuccessfully) to venture beyond it. It's a seriously big portion. On the most recent visit, I decided to change the spice level from mild to medium. Pretty impressive "bang" you get for your buck. The medium spice was pretty good, enough to leave a slight on-fire feeling but not that I was constantly gulping down water!

Nothing like a cheap and cheerful meal and The Oaks delivers on both those fronts. I popped in before a concert on a Monday evening and was surprised how busy the place was. People from all backgrounds seemed to be enjoying themselves. The decor is a bit dated but the service was quick, staff were friendly, food was quick and tasted good. All in all, for what it is, it was worth the stop.

I got a takeaway Pork, dumpling and noodle soup. It was delicious (great dumplings), cheap and the guy who served me was really nice. It was a good first visit to Oaks, I'll be going back to try more of their menu for sure.

Definitely cheap and cheerful food! Delicious Pad Thai and Red Curry.

My only gripe is not being open on Mondays!

Nice quick service and great portion sizes.

Oaks is known for its cheap and cheerful food. I've been here twice and on both occasions the food itself has tasted nice enough, and I would recommend their marinated chicken on rice. One problem I've had though is that the food has come out lukewarm. If the food came out a bit hotter then I would be a regular customer.

Over looking Cuba St, Oaks is a local favourite for offering big, delicious portions for a good price. Went there on a Thursday evening with a friend, she ordered a portion of roti that arrived when we were half-way eating our mains, but the food was lovely. Sit by window if you enjoy people watching, plus there's always music coming up from the street, it adds a nice touch to the place.
Mel
Sickly wontons, tasted like the meat had been sitting around for days, the same with the meat in the noodle soups and dumplings. Very sub par food.

Ordered Combination Fried Rice, Chicken Nasi Goreng, Roti with Satay, and Chicken Tom Yum. Total price - $33.50.

The main meals came in less than 5 minute and then the soup and the roti a couple of minutes later.

The meals lacked any flavour. The soup tasted worse than the instant Tom Yum you can buy at the supermarket. The roti wasn't fluffy and multilayered. The satay I believe was out of a jar and extremely sweet.

Overall, very bad quality, but cheap and served extremely fast, hence I've scored them a 2.

I'd recommend it to students on a tight budget.

Good cheap eat in Wellington. Char Kwey Teow (35) is consistently good, even my kids enjoy it. Chicken on rice is good too (7) and noodle soups are nice. Friendly staff and good with allergies.

Would go here for lunch quite often when I was working down that end of town.

Massive range of dishes to choose from and all for around the same price.

Service is normally very quick, and portion size good. Can be very busy around midday during the week.

Order beef and meatball soup with thick noodles. Yummy. Service was quick. There's condiment on the table so you can add stuff to your taste. However, my table has a little bit chilli smudge (might be missed by the staff due to peak hour but no biggie though)

Literally the best Pad Thai I have ever had. I dream about this food. Kind of a hole in the wall place, but the food is amazing. Convenient location. Quick service, fresh, delicious food. Big helpings as well and not expensive. If this place ever closed I don't know what I would do.

If I lived downtown I would go here every night (which I did when I used to live there)! My husband is now obsessed as well (everyone has their favorite number to order on the menu). He gets the fried rice and I get the pad Thai, but everything here is great.

It is fun to sit inside and people watch (the restaurant is upstairs so you can see over Cuba Street). You can also get takeaway - either way good is amazing. Staff is friendly. Everything is always hot and fresh. Try the tea with your dinner on a chilly day!

Oaks is a great spot for a cheap lunch or dinner, smack bang in the middle of Wellington CBD. It's cheap and tasty and the service is fast and friendly. You only wait a couple of minutes for your food and it's always hot and delicious! Oaks is like a secret society, each member having their favorite number, battling it out with their friends claiming their choice is the best. Personally, mine's number 7 (it actually is the greatest).

Still a great place to go for lunch. Was introduced to Oaks by a friend last year, and try to get back every so often.
Have varied from the #20 only once, and it was an unmitigated disaster, so now stick with what I know. That said, I've looked at other people's dishes (as you do) and they look just as appetising.

Assuming you can get a seat between 12 and 1pm the food is great, always fresh and too hot to eat at first, and reasonably priced for the CBD.

Highly recommend if you're in a hurry and can get a seat. There's a reason why it's always so busy ..

Really like going to the Oaks. The staff are friendly, the food arrives fast and it is a good price. Usually go to the Oaks most Tuesday's. Order the same thing (41) and the guy remembers every time. He tells me I should try something else, but 41 is so delicious I just cannot resist. I like how the staff remember you!

Good portions for what you pay, pricier than they used to be but still cheap.

Super fast, they still surprise me with how fast the food comes out sometimes.

We took a homeless French dude with us once, he complained that fish was not fish and was disgusted that the main came before his entrée. This was a good memory.

Although it is obvious that most of the meat is pre-cooked I have not found this deters from the fact that the meals usually taste good.

Staff are always nice, and they are happy to modify meals(more veges, more meat, etc) I haven't had any delay to cooking time when this is done either.

For what you pay this place is perfect, it is not fine dining, but it also doesn't cost more than $15 for a meal.

Been going here for the last 5 years since we moved to mt vic. Authentic and cheap. Our favourites are #19, fish curry soup and the kids like the pork won ton soup. Often if I don't feel like cooking we get takeout from here.
Harriet Rowland
I love the Hawaiian fried rice. It is one I keep coming back for. Very reasonably priced.

Pretty good pricing and good food

Still loving the meals here

AWESOME! Oaks Satay noodle house is the place to go if you want a super tasty, great value meal on the go. Service is great. Meals are prepared very quickly. It is VERY cheap and tastes delicious. My partner and I go there often and would recommend it to anyone. It truly is one of the best kept secrets in Wellington!

I use to go here when I was at uni about 5-6 years ago now and use to get the chicken cashew fried rice, always delicious and good value!

Value for money --- very good food at cheap prices. We always come here when we miss that asian homecooking we grew up with. The food here always taste like home!

I had marinated chicken and it was very tasty. Their chicken noodle soup is always a hit when I long for comfort food.

Don't expect anything posh...just very very good asian nosh.

This Oaks Satay Noodle House has to be be the "Best Kept Dining Secret" in WELLINGTON !!!

The food is always TASTY and YUMMY!!!
The service is always FAST !!!
The prices are always LOW !!!

Thats why they are always SO BUSY !!!

I used to frequent Oaks Satay Noodle house nearly 3 times a week and was very happy as a loyal customer. They had affordable pricing and tasty meals.

The food is still tasty however they have continuously increased their prices over the past 2 years and to be honest, I've found other great locations to eat that gives me more value, equally as tasty and is cheaper in cost.

The location is great, very central and they definitely make your meal very quick.
