Review Centennial Coffee House - Wellington

Mitchell Bidois
I always appreciate somewhere that offers some different options than your stock standard brunch choices, so I had to leap at the chance to try the Centennial Coffee House’s Lebanese eggs. The halloumi, tomato and sumac all worked exceptionally well together. If this is an indication of the other items on the menu I’ll definitely be back for more.

Lovely little cafe with exceptional service, great food and very reasonable pricing

Good food which seemed to fit the theme. A shame they didn't have everything on the menu available to order.

Cozy, relaxed spot not far from the beach. Handful of tables, a high bench, and a couple couches.
Ollie Pooley
Really nice place, great breakfast and coffee, kind staff and quick service

A little pricey like most cafés but definitely worth it, had the buttermilk pancakes with bacon and banana. Absolutely recommend this place if you're wanting a lovely breakfast. Don't forget to bring your vaccine pass.
Neil Beckett
Not a bad option, as the other cafes in the area are usually really busy.

Always great coffee at Centennial Coffee House. Today I had a coffee and Centennial’s version of Eggs Benedict with spinach instead of bread. The eggs were perfectly poached, the bacon crispy and the sauce tasty. I sat outside with my dogs and chatted with another friendly diner.

Slightly hidden from the beach, but well worth the 1-minute walk. Service was great, as was the food, and there's plenty of outdoor space. Since we were heading to the beach with a puppy, the outdoor space is an absolute must-have. Centennial ticked all the boxes.

Great breakfast, been in New Zealand for 3 years in Wellington and no other cafe has beaten such a tasty full breakfast. Ingredients were superb too!

Amazing food, good place for kids with a very good selection of kids meals (Not just chips and nuggets) and toys and books, excellent atmosphere, highly recommend the eggs bene. Hollandaise to die for. Love this little local gem, we will definitely be back

Great coffee and food, the large flat white filled the hole in my back tooth ,but what there was ,was good

Thanks to the friendly staff who looked after our motorcycle group of 12 yesterday. The food and coffee were both great - the pies were a big hit, and there was plenty of room for us and parking for the bikes. We'll be back :-) Ulysses Motorcycle Club of Kapiti (Zimmer riders ):-)

Husband and I were there this morning, we each had poached eggs on toast and a flat white. Excellent eggs, excellent, fluffy toast (pre-buttered! Why does no-one else do this?) and smooth, delicious coffee. Lovely, friendly waitress with a French (?) accent. Bit of a change from some places in the CBD where the staff look as if they'd rather be elsewhere and they serve little frozen cubes of butter which destroy your toast if you're not very careful. Centennial also provides a water cooler for lovely cold water, instead of those glass bottles of lukewarm water sitting around for hours. Excellent!

Great atmosphere, very chilled and relaxing place to dine. I usually get big breakfasts from cafe’s, And I can confidently hands down say, Centennial Coffee House make the ‘best’ big breakfast by a wide margin. No bland and plenty of flavour. Great coffee too.

Love the food and coffee here
My wife had the mince on toast and I had the big breakfast
Will definitely come back
It gets very busy with a few gyms in the area
Friendly staff

Great place to go for breakfast. Consistant good food, friendly and welcoming staff. Very busy place with great coffee and the hot chocolate in my opinion is the best I've had.

Purchased two take away rolls, the bread was stale. Small wonder they wanted to toast these instead of providing them naturally. Not exactly value for money.

On arrival the cabinet food looked very good. We went for items off the menu though, roast vege salad, pancakes and bubble and squeak. Minimal interaction from staff throughout. Vege salad was pronounced very good as were the pancakes - both slightly different variation than last visit apparently. The bubble and squeak looked and smelt delicious (minus the long blonde hair sticking out) kind of lost my enthusiasm after that. Big letdown as I hardly ever go out to a 'sit down' lunch. Second one arrived and it was indeed tasty.

🙌🙌🙌 These guys know how to do an Americano!!! It's now my go to coffee place in lyall Bay. Their cabinet food is quite inviting, I couldn't say no to their caramel slice. Definitely coming back for a post gym feed!

Good was great and really good value.we had poached eggs and toast which where the best in town and only $9. My friend had a fancy version which we loved. The coffee is great and the service was excellent. Comfortable surroundings and no wait time. Convenient to pop info the many shops close by in lyall bay.

Very nice staff and accommodating. I asked for muesli and fruit which originally came in apple juice. Instead they put it in soy milk for me and made it takeaway. So nice :)

Not a bad spot. Friendly staff especially for regulars. Coffee is ok, doesn't seem strong to me but not bad and would try it again. They have an outdoor seating spot but given the location if its a good day opt for a takeaway and head to lyall bay.

Food was great, coffee was great.. Service was ok I think it would have been a nicer visit for me if they had been a little more friendly when I engaged in small talk - as a first time visitor to the coffee shop. I loved the surroundings and eclectic items and music was good.

Sitting in lyall bay between Bunnings and Sue Dassler pottery - two useful places to know - this little cafe takes its name from the site of the 1940 centennial exhibition. The low budget, brutalist fit-out also tries to take its theme from the exhibition, with posters and photographs. Unfortunately the dominant colour scheme - black - is depressingly out of keeping with theme and overall I found the ambience depressingly unpleasant.
The coffee was variable - well made and good flavour to the flat white but the trim cap was not so pleasant - acidic on the tongue.
A Louise slice was gooey, jammy and perfectly balanced with thin shortcake base.
Other cabinet food looked OK.
Ambience is the main deterrent to returning, although perhaps in summer the lack of cosy warmth would not be so noticeable. A new paint job wouldn't go amiss.

Enjoyed my visit yesterday and would def. go back when I'm in the area. Good selection on the menu and at 11.10am on a Saturday, cabinets full with fresh, appealing-looking food. Esp enjoyed the white chocolate afghan and it was a good size for a nice treat for one (super-huge biscuits and slices annoy me!) ; plenty else I'd like to try too. V good flat white and a good selection of cold drinks.

What a find. Great place to grab a coffee on the way to Bunnings or chill out in quiet surroundings. Only tried the cabinet food to date, keen to try the menu as it looks pretty good. Good coffee, fast service. Like this place.

Always reliable. Good value. Nice people. Keep going back.

We went there yesterday for lunch. the facilities are basic, but That's not a big deal for us, though table was dirty and so were our saucers. however...
We were enjoying our lunch until my partner found a big hunk of metal in his corn fritters. Kind of put us off.
We approached the counter who whisked it away to the kitchen. And that was that. No apology, no offer of a refund, no offer of replacement food.
Have to say I'm unimpressed by that, and needless to say we wont be going there again.

What a find!!!Anyone heading out to Lyall Bay should definately call in to The Centennial Coffee House....this cafe has such a relaxed easy atmosphere, loads of quick options from the cabinet....like their incredibly tasty range of pies!!!I had the beef Thai red curry pie!sooooo good!

Greeted with friendly faces on arrival i instantly felt like a regular...just a stroll from the beach and somewhere to tie my dog up while i sat and ate at the tables outside.Coffee was really good and the meals i saw taken out were HUGE!!Busting with history on the area from the 1930's and loads of retro memorabilia this place is such a cool place to visit!
