Review Hey Ramen - Wellington

Lovely Ramen place. Cosy, authentic & good pricing. I would suggest to apply caution with the Jigoku Ramen - very spicy. Well-recommended Japanese ramen shop in Wellington.

Had the tan tan ramen for the lunch special, what a deal! Nice peanut broth and noodles

This place is normally packed at lunch time but the service is very fast. Shio ramen is tasty. Good place for a quick work lunch.

Good flavour to the ramen broth. Soft and really strong flavour to tonkatsu. But since they put in everything cold into the broth you have to make sure to dunk! Tried side dishes of Karaage (chicken) - super soft and tender and also the raw octopus - pretty fresh. Not many options for ramen in the city. This is a solid affordable option.

Excellent and flavourful Ramen. Got the spicy ramen and it didn't disappoint. Delicious well balanced broth and great pale yellow noodles show the chef knows what they are doing. Many varieties of Ramen to choose from including the epic Kimchi Ramen. There are plenty of other delicious things to have it Ramen is not your thing.... Yet. Staff are really friendly and helpful and know all the menu items well enough to explain the differences. This help when a group of tourists wants to try something different. So take a chance and give this place a chance before it becomes too famous.

Shop hours and location are excellent. Service is quick. Picture is of a half-finished bowl of miso ramen. I have come here 3 times and each time I left feeling underwhelmed by the ramen. Everything one expects in a bowl of ramen is here, but the experience is not entirely fulfilling: the broth is not hot enough, the noodles aren't cooked enough, the soft boiled egg is cold from the fridge. I recommend to someone who has never had good ramen before but not to someone who has had ramen in Japan before.

Pretty tasty ramen broth with many different broth options on the menu. I like that they have many different toppings to keep it interesting too. They only downside is that the noodles were slightly undercooked. It’s good ramen but not the best, good for a quick lunch

Had the Jigoku Ramen. It was pretty spicy but I really like spicy food, so that was all good! There was a good mix of things in the soup, charshu pork, mushrooms, greens and a egg. Service was good too! Would recommend.

Looking for a place for light(er) meal just after work I was delighted to see they are open until 8pm. Staff is drier and happy to explain the dish if required and recommend a spicy ones when I asked for those. Serving is quite large but it does not feel heavy. Also, is was delivered to my table quickly. My sanshou ramen was spicy and made my lips tingle. I will be back there again.

Chicken katsu (no mayo) tastes good and is made to order. Service is quick and staffs are friendly. You can even choose your own donburi topping. Other than donburi, there’s also ramen, udon, fried rice options available.

Great ramen, good variety on offer. Only criticism is the lack of cleanliness

Very affordable and very delicious. I ordered a big bowl of ramen and it is was only $17 and a great portion with lots of veg/meat. I was a little disappointed with a cold egg, as it cooled the ramen broth down, but it was not worth marking the place down for. I’m amazed this doesn’t have a higher rating!

Nothing beats a hot bowel of ramen on a windy Wellington evening. Catching up with a friend, we were actually suppose to go to Dumplin’d but it was closed so we opted for Hey Ramen.

Nice atmosphere, as expected of a Japanese casual restaurant there was plenty of visuals in regards to the meals, making ordering simple.

I ordered a tonkatsu ramen. The broth was amazing, deep flavored and the springiness of the noodles was a winning combination. My only complaint was that the portion size was quite small.

Showstopper: The broth has some serious depth in terms of flavor.

Overall Grade: B

I have tried a soup and several noodle and rice dishes from Hey Ramen.
I really enjoy the Chicken Katusdon. The chicken is delicious and the sauce they use is really good.
The Bento bowl meals are quite good, it's where you choose between rice and noodles, a good selection of veges and 1 or 2 meats depending on the bowl size you paid for. Towards the end of the day when they're getting ready to close up they pack leftover Bento ingredients into bowls and sell them cheap. This is nice however you don't get to choose the ingredients. I picked one that had these beans in it that taste like licorice. I've been told they're quite healthy but the taste and texture did not go with the food and I had to pick them out.
I would recommend for the Chicken Katsudon alone, nice place to go for a nice filling meal.
