Review Newkor - Wellington

Emily
I've had the Little Devil fried chicken wings, and I enjoyed them! There is plenty of the sauce to coat the wings, and it's definitely spicy! I've tried the garlic and parmesan fried chicken, and I really liked that flavour, probably my favourite out of the options. The Cajun and honey mustard sauce wings were ok. It would have been nice to have more than a quick drizzle of the honey mustard sauce, but other than that, I do like the flavour combo of cajun and honey mustard. I enjoyed the kimchi dumplings. Nice and crispy and crunchy. The filling was tasty! They're really good when dipped in the sauce for the Tteokbokki! I've tried the pork dumplings, which were also crispy (panfried), and they also taste good with the tteokbokki sauce. I've tried the spicy pork on rice, and the flavours were great. I think the spice level was more on the milder side, but you can definitely still tell that there is spice present. I will say that the prices are on the higher side, considering the portion size/how much you get. However, the food tastes good, and I would recommend you come in and decide for yourself.

Delicious fried chicken. Highly recommend the cheese snowing chicken! Service was prompt and friendly :)

Went here back in June, the food was very delicious, great atmosphere and the staff was super friendly and helpful, this is definitely one of the best korean restaurants in Wellington. My favourite dishes that had was the kimchi dumplings, tofu stew and beef ribs, their chicken was also really good full of flavour and very crunchy.

Good food and friendly service. There is a surcharge for credit card payments.

great for a group of people, we all shared some fried chicken which was crispy and tasty. also got individual meals which were the tteokbokki and chicken noodle soup. looooove the tteokbokki, not too spicy and the tteok (rice cakes) is soft and chewy. put some of that tteokbokki sauce in the noodles and its extra yom

Nice food, nice ambience. Japche is a must try for starter because the taste is very solid. In the other hand, my spicy bbq is not really attractive at all, quite salty and lack of the bbq flavour that I love. And if anyone is a fan of fry chicken then please don't even hesitate for once. It is absolutely stunning from the taste of the sauce and the chicken is so so crispy. Coming back is a yes.

Great BBQ. Great food. We love it.

Great place for a group to have some very nice Korean BBQ. Good sized venue with plenty of large tables for bigger groups and this is the best way to enjoy Korean BBQ. Lots of options, meat and vege which you cook on the gas BBQs in the middle of the table. Make sure you try the lettuce to wrap you choice of meat with the bean paste, delicious. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Kimchi pancake is a must try too. 😉👍

Got the bulgogi. $60 and it was enough for 3 people. It was also on par or even better than most of the bulgogi I had when I lived in South Korea. My only criticism would be that it is lacking in the variety and amount of complimentary ingredients. The kimchi was also my favourite kind. Lots of red and a fair amount of spice. The soju is export soju, which sadly means it is packed with sugar. A bit sickly and not worth the $21 price tag. The staff were fine. Not the friendliest, but certainly not rude or anything.

Great food and fantastic portion sizes! Service was fantastic, staff definitely keeps an eye out and was very attentive and kind. Also has karaoke upstairs for those up for a night of food, alcohol, and singing. Will definitely be back 🙌🙌

BBQ beef and shrimp is what I ordered. It's juicy, mild, and mouth-watering. Good selection of their serving beef. 45 nzd for the large set. Served with a small plate of Kimchi, bean sprouts, fishball, steamed potatoes. A dish of rice to eat with those thing is served, too. Don't forget to try Soju - a Korean alcoholic drink. The owners are really friendly and have service mind in running this lovely restaurant business.

We had a blast that evening in the Newkor karaoke bar restaurant. The place offers a great karaoke setup room, where you can enjoy a great evening with friends and family. I really recommend this place to visit and enjoy your time. Cheers

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. My partner and I use to always come here, their food & service is beyond! They are so kind and always ensure you’re satisfied with everything. Bonus that it’s BYO aswell (only wine).

Staff were really helpful and friendly. The food was SO good!! Will definitely go back again the next time I'm in Wellington! And maybe try the Karaoke next time!.

Newkor has a good selection of authentic Korean dishes at a really good price - definitely won't break your bank. The serving sizes are also generous with reasonable turnout times. Friendly service, while still adhering to social distancing amid the Covid-19 havoc. The ambience and decor is sub-par, but honestly it didn't matter too much since their spicy beef stew was enjoyable. The rice that came with it though, felt like it had been reheated as some of the rice had a dry/crunchy texture.<br/>The serving size of their jjajangmyeon was generous and although the black bean sauce was tasty, there wasn't enough for the amount of noodles.<br/>Their kimchi stew wasn't my favourite, small sizes of pork belly and the stew itself lacked in terms of depth of flavour.<br/>Fried chicken is definitely something to look forward to from here - sauces were delicious and the batter was crisp and light!<br/>All in all, a wallet-friendly satisfying meal 😊

Newkor has their highlights and letdowns. Dishes like the jjajangmyeon and fried chicken were quite authentic and tasty. But we also ordered a Kimchi stew, dumplings, and tteokbokki which were a bit disappointing.<br/>The jjajangmyeon was of quite a large portion. The noodles were springy. The toppings were well seasoned. It even had egg.<br/>The KFC was boneless and tender, with a sweet and spicy gochujang sauce. However, portions were rather small for the price.<br/>Tteokbokki sauce was very tasty but again the portion was very small.<br/>The dumplings didn't taste very authentic, and fillings included one with curry and one with crabstick, so it seemed a bit cheap.<br/>The Kimchi stew was not aromatic at all, chili was all I could taste really, and had very little pork belly and tofu. It was also too sour.<br/>However the spicy beef stew was much better - I'd recommend that option.

Second time here and it was still awesome 🙂<br/>(My first time was actually so many years ago 😅)<br/>But I recommended to my family to come here for my partners birthday and everyone enjoyed the food.<br/>The service was very attentive and patient with our large group 🙂 also very helpful when picking out extra choices from the menu 😄<br/>The stews are my favourite for a winter fix 😍 lots of spice, flavour and portions are decent.<br/>And the KBBQ is a great larger crowd pleaser.<br/>Also the peach soju is delightful 😍👌🏽<br/>Definitely coming back to make my way through the menu 😁❤️<br/>Thank you!

The authentic and delicious Korean restaurant in Wellington. Although food is served slowly, but the quality is guaranteed. And the Kimchi fried rice here is the best I’ve eaten so far, and they are friendly to help me change the corn cheese to mushroom because it is a little bit too sweet for me. And they are the first restaurant serving Korean Zzang Jang Mian, I’ve never been to Korea, but I know the black bean sauce noodles is popular.

Food was very lovely, friendly staff, good service and very reasonable price for the quality and the amount you get. The only problem I had was that the place was a bit cold but I still had a very good experience. Highly recommended!

Very friendly staff. The manager gave me a discount on karaoke and a free Korean beer on my birthday. Love the upstairs karaoke.<br/>Soju(Korean rice wine) is very good there and comes flavoured. Nice sipped or as a shot.<br/>The food is really good. Korean style BBQ meals, spicy dishes, great sides and every pair of meals comes with a free side dish of Kimchi and other light sides. Most dishes are served on a hot plate or bowl and are still sizzling when they get to the table. Really hot and tasty food.<br/>Highly recommended.

Friendly people. Super tasty korean food. One of the best korean food ive ever tasted. They serve the best kimchi ever in my opinion and one of the best korean bbqs out there in Wellington. Really good place<br/>

I got a voucher for Korean BBQ. The lady at the restaurant spoke minimum English however she was such a lovely lady and there was no problem to communicate. The BBQ was fun to cook by yourself with a hot pan and taste good. Homemade Kimuchi and other side dishes were tasty. We definitely  will go back.

Work function. Meal and karaoke. Helpful staff. There was a few of us. We tried the local spirit. Wow packs a punch. The peach one was nice the traditional one a bit like petrol. Fun though. <br/><br/>Food was disappointing. I ordered the veggie dumplings. That was it, no veg or rice just a few dumplings. They were average. The sauces a little bland too. Never mind the karaoke was great fun. I think that's the draw here.

Excellent drink. Great show. Very nice. Perfect.<br/>When I was a young boy. I discovered my father's stash of whiskey. I broke into it using my brothers skateboard. Neither were very happy. That was not a good night. But it forever inspeired my love of Korean folk. 10/да would bang. Peace.

It is the first time I heard that if want to add some side dishes need to pay extra dollars. Normally in Korean restaurants are free. Unbelievable

Went here for dinner. My partner and I were very impressed with the food. She reckons the kimchi stew (her favourite dish) is the best she's had in Wellington. Bibimbap and pancake also very nice. Good service

Whenever me and the boys go out to eat we always hit up New Kor. The atmosphere is chill and we always feel welcome and comfortable when we visit, we also get the same table too which makes the experience feel intimate. The service is great and the employees are very kind, the food is good for the price with a decent selection of beers and soju. Its not a 5-star restaurant but the vibe is what makes it very enjoyable and relaxing.

저는 이 식당은 너무 좋아해요! This restaurant is so good. Me and my friends try to come here at least once every month. The staff here are lovely people, we are always greeted with a warm welcome and they always make sure we're okay. The food here is amazing. 10/10 would recommend coming here whenever you can!

First time here in a couple of months and the food was very different and not as good as it used to be.  Looks like the ownership has changed, poor service and almost inedible fried chicken.  Would not recommend, worst $50 meal.

Used to come here a lot with a group of friends for a cheap and cheerful dinner followed by karaoke. I really like the BBQ chicken dish here, it’s really flavoursome and moreish. The little side dishes that accompany the mains are great. However, I haven’t really enjoyed the other dishes I have tried on the menu. Their kimchee pancake is terrible and the squid is very stringy. If you find a favourite dish here and stick to it, it’s worth popping in now and then to get it. But overall, this definitely isn’t the best Korean restaurant in town.

Came here with work colleagues for lunch and it was great! To those new to Korean food would recommend coming as a group and getting the DIY BBQ to share along with a "soup" and hot plate each, to share amongst your group FAMILY STYLE. Spice wise, it wasn't as hot as I thought it would be but it was deffinately tasty! And I DIDN'T walk away bloated and ready for a sleep!

Yum!! This soup reminded me of a place called tomato that was down in Christchurch!! Brings back memories and plus it was freezing today and I love Korean food!!!

The food here was great! I had the Spicy BBQ Pork and the Stir Fry Glass Noodles. The Spicy BBQ Pork was one of the best dishes I have had out in awhile. I highly recommend eating out here. Also the price of the dishes were great.

Love the Karaoke here

Ordered the spicy soup hot pot and also the beef, pork and seafood hot plate bbq ( two of the most expensive meals on the menu ) was disappointed over the outcome. Firstly, the portion of meals was way too little and the meats were sparse to say the least. Lighting at night was pretty dark as well. Probably wont dine there until a change of ownership.

My husband and I ate at Newkor for our wedding anniversary. I ordered the Spicy Chicken at $16 and my husband ordered the BBQ Marinated Seafood at $18. They came at different times, but we shared my Spicy Chicken and half way through the meal, my husband's BBQ Marinated Seafood arrived. <br/><br/>Both were accompanied by 4 little dishes and a bowl of rice each. Lovely and hot dishes which is excellent. We both loved the spicy chicken, but the BBQ Marinated Seafood had too much squid. It also had mussels and 3 prawns (how to eat these with chopsticks?)<br/><br/>I would certainly recommend this restaurant to the rest of the family. Decor not wonderful, but meals fab.

Went here for dinner with two other friends.<br/>Really decent sized meals. Fed two big men and female... however, we still had room to have dessert at Strawberry Fare.<br/><br/>Very good price. We ordered the DIY spicy chicken dish and an extra beef hot plate. It wasn't as DIY as we thought, but I think that's because we hadn't been there before and he didn't want us giving ourselves food poisoning. But there was a couple at a table next to us who were cooking their own food (meat in a big hot wok of soup). <br/><br/>The atmosphere is really good and the staff are very polite. <br/>I gave it four stars because it was really delish, very cheap, very good amount of food. They refill the side dishes. Wish I tried Mando though! <br/>Deducted 1 star coz of some of the things in the place, plastic water jug for our table with a picture of a Korean girl on it, TINY plastic water cups, and ugly pink princess pillows on the couch side of the table. But hey, that's just my inner snob talking.<br/>Highly recommended for good Korean food experience.

My friend and I came in for lunch and were totally blown away by how good the food was. I ordered korean bbq and my dish came with a four korean condiments, one of which was kimchi, making the whole dish quite a big meal!<br/><br/>My korean chicken bbq was excellent, and just the right degree of spiciness for me(one has the option ordering mild to very hot spiciness). The portions were huge but we easily finished the dish because it was just yum! Best korean food I've ever tasted. Very highly recommended!

My friends and I went to Newkor for a birthday dinner. The restaurant seated a table of 14 with no difficulty. The waitresses were attentive and friendly, and didn't seem to mind our rather loud presence. The food was great - I think more than half our table ordered the $13 BBQ chicken - and everyone enjoyed their meals. There were complimentary side dishes as well (kimchi, seaweed, potato and mung beans). The meals were reasonably inexpensive for such a large size as well. Afterwards we went up to the noraebang which are very clean and spacious and have a good selection of music (and the good backing tracks). The proprieters were kind enough to allow us to stay after closing time, only closing the restaurant when we left. Overall a very good experience and highly recommended! Good if you are on a budget too as the meals won't break the bank.

We had a birthday party there last saturady and it was superb. By far the best Korean restaurant I've been to in Wellington. If you ask the menu to be changed they do that for you, and give you little side dishes with your meal for free and refil it for you. <br/><br/>The hot pot with the beef and noodles, and their BBQ spicy chicken and pork were great. The alc they serve there; the plum korean wine and the raspberry black wine were really sweet and the girls loved it.<br/><br/>After we went up for karaoke, and the rooms were superb. Definitely the best we've seen. They were clean and had really nice leather sofas and LCD screen TVS and flashing lights and shiny microphones it was great.<br/><br/>They gave us free tea and free fruits after our meal as well and sang us happy birthday. We found that really nice and cute.<br/><br/>Anyway. The prices were really good, the food was superb and the service was great and the karaoke was a blast,<br/><br/>Thankyou NewKor for such a good time<br/><br/>cheers:)
