Review Aroy Thai Express - Wellington

Dee O.
Standard fare, but delicious. Quick service. Plenty of seats in the evening, but I've also visited at lunch time & the place was packed. Great location on The Terrace, can be hard to find a car park.

Excellent Thai food. Very convenient for the city lunch crowd on The Terrace. We had the chicken dumpling shrimp soup and a massamaan curry with rice. Delicious! Service is very prompt and staff are friendly and helpful.

Even though Aroy is a chain of restaurants, there seems to be some subtle differences in minor things. In this case, the peanut sauce that accompanied the roti bread was significantly nicer than the equivalent sauce from the Porirua store. Other than that observation, the food was up to the same standard as other Aroy stores.

Food was okay. Wasn't the most flavorsome. Restaurant was busy, and they got orders out to tables very timely.

Great food and friendly staff. Gets busy during lunch time, but its worth the wait. Having said that, takeaways are yummy too ;) Oh, the most importantly it is very reasonably priced. Not being too greedy helps keeping the shop full most of the time. We can just hope that the rest of the retail places in Wellington would follow the same approach ;)

Very good portions and delicious food. Last time I was there I saw everyone get their food before us, despite ordering much earlier, we waited 30 minutes. Except for that, food was good.

I had lunch here with friends two days ago. The food was delicious! I had the yellow curry but everything on the table looked very tempting. Even though the restaurant was full of lunch-time diners the service was fast and friendly. I can't wait to eat there again!

I didn't enjoy my food as much because there was nearly no chicken in my peanut chicken satay dish. However, the overall meal was enough to satisfy both my hunger and the price, plus the staff were polite enough to ask me how my day was going which is actually rare in the hospitality industry with the big bad customer and his mean reviews... (e.g.) however I will return to see if this wasn't just an unlucky dish and may adjust my review.

When you're a typical WLG office worker, time away from the desk grabbing a quick bite (emphasis on the quick) is precious. Popped into Aroy for a quick lunch break today and our meals were with us within 2 minutes of sitting down...now that is express. While it doesn't take the prize for most authentic meal, it is a great alternative to the colonels 11 herbs and that Big Mac secret sauce. Tasty food with clean flavours, not swimming in oils or fats, and a decent size for the $12 I paid. Oh and I didn't feel like having a nap from too much food midway through the arvo...
A Tasty Plate
Had a shared lunch with my work colleagues and got a number of dishes from Aroy for the occasion.

Ordered in advance via the phone and the dishes were ready and waiting at the agreed time.

Split the meals and sides between 7 of us, worked out at $10 per person which I thought was good value.

Everyone enjoyed the dishes. Tasty, Fresh. Full of flavour.

Only down side: they forgot to include the roti we'd ordered, but refunded the cost later when I brought the omission to their attention. I also think the portion you get when eating it (for the same price) may be slightly larger.

Great option for a healthier, vege packed lunch or dinner.

I've eaten at this Aroy a number of times before. Been a while but it was nice to try again. I've always found them to be mostly consistent.

I've tried several dishes here. Previously I have tried the chill chicken, but I found the sauce to be too thick, like curry paste watered down slightly, so it was too much.

However, I mainly order crispy pork with rice and bok choi. I like this dish, yes the pork is a bit fatty but i expect it. Today it wasn't too fatty which was good. A good portion or rice and bok choi too. The bok choi was still firm and there was a good amount of the oyster sauce.

I really enjoyed this dish. It's tasty and a good feed. I do think it is a bit over priced at $13.00 but it's not excessive.

It can get very busy from 12pm which can result in a slight wait. Today there were several people ahead of me, I sat in, and my meal took about 5 mins.

My clothes smelt a little 'foodie' when I left. Noticeable, but not too bad.

They have loads of tempting dishes advertised, I will be back to try some more.

Fast, nice selection and close to my office. Can get busy at peak times.
Portion sizes are good, avg price is $12. I recommend the cashew chicken.

I have tried this restaurant a couple of times and I love the food. They use fresh in season veges and its always hot and quick to come out.

It does get busy during the lunch breaks so you need to pick your times.

I love their green curry and you can alter the heat to suit your taste.

First visit to Aroy Thai. Tried the steamed chicken and rice. Did not meet my expectations. Chicken was dry and chewy, not like steamed chicken I have eaten in Singapore and Indonesia. Not willing to try again.
