Review Korean Country House - Wellington

Hine Porou
Small and cosy Korean restaurant with order at counter style service. Food was brought to our table and was hot and delicious. We ordered tangsuyuk (like sweet and sour pork), kimchi pancake, seafood pancake, chicken bokkeum, kimchi jigae (perfect spice level) and extra rice portions, 3 side dishes were complimentary (kimchi, mung beans and honey potato). Takeaway option was available.

The food we received was really good! For people that just want somewhere quiet and sensory friendly, this be a good place for you. The portion sizes are very good for the price, and if you’re wanting a solid traditional Korean meal with no frills and surprises. It’s a regular dining spot for me I leave satisfied every time.

This Korean restaurant is such a hidden gem and I'm glad I discovered it soon enough! I have enjoyed few meals here so far - it gives off a very authentic Korean eatery vibe, and its slightly secluded location rendered some wonderful privacy, a special factor to my liking. I love the chicken bokkum, Korean pancakes, kimchi stew! The kimchi tastes well when it is served cold, quite complementary with other hot dishes. The lady boss is a very kind and friendly person where I saw her giving a free gift to a kid before the family leaves the store, bringing smiles to people's faces.

Best Korean restaurant in Wellington. I have tried Korean food everywhere in New Zealand but this is the only place I felt like authentic Korean food. Amazing taste and I can have this food everyday. Hope more people will visit this place. I’m so glad I tried there food.

One of Wellington hidden gems. Tucked away at the end of a corridor off Manners street it’s a true delight for your taste buds. The chicken bokkum it’s superb and my go to dish however everything else I have tried on the menu didn’t disappoint and it was as delicious.

Places that do well in Wellington have one thing in common, they are consistent with what they deliver. Country House is that type of place, came here for the first time around 9+ years ago and the only thing that has changed is the price (fair enough). Flavour and portion sizes are exactly how I remembered it and is still my favourite Korean restaurant for "hot & spicy pork", #6 on the menu. Side dishes were as good as always, bean sprouts are definitely my favourite still. Must try!

Food was beautiful to look at and to eat. Friendly hosts made sure we felt welcome and well fed. We had no idea what to order but all 3 of us were very happy and the sizzling plates added a nice surprise. We added a plate of fried chicken to share and this was a hit.

My Korean experience today was an unexpected explosion of excitement! 🎆

It came out in a clay pot sizzling n bubbling! For those that enjoy a bit of theatre this tofu and spicy soup number will have you smiling.
The additionally amazing side dishes on offer today were; Kimchi, beansprouts, and potato! There are also condiments on the table such as chilli, vinegar, and soy sauce.

For a sizzling, bubbling, warming good time get yo-self a Sundubu!

Jjangmyeon was delicious!!!I really enjoyed the flavour and wish that they sold this everyday! Had the right amount of spice and I completely demolished the dish!
I have always enjoyed their Bulgogi and the side dishes. This is one of the authentic Korean restaurants (I know -- the couple in the kitchen are Koreans and I had known them for some time, but that doesn't make this review biased, haha!) in Welly. Good value with great taste, and located in a very private nook along Manner's Street. I think their location is a bit of a disadvantage for them since they're not visible from the sidewalk. This time, I dined with a good friend from Peru and she enjoyed the experience, saying she liked the kimchi!

Was craving a hot Korean meal during a cold evening and stopped by Country House. This is one of my more frequented Korean restaurants in Wellington central, and you'll see why.

I got a bibimbap and it came with a bottle of gochujang for me to add in, as usual. The mixed rice was just what I needed: it had protein, lots of veggies, rice, and a generous portion of gochujang. I was also pleasantly surprised when one of the complimentary side dishes turned out to be kimchi pancake. I adore Korean pancakes and having this on the side totally made my meal complete. All the times I've been here, the food has always been well made and it has quick service, which is a massive bonus.

On Fridays or Saturdays (can't remember which one), they also have jjajangmyeon. As far as I know, Country House is the only place that does this dish in town. So it's definitely a place to hit up if you want some of that goodness!

My only gripe I have with this place is that it doesn't offer as much variety as the other Korean places in the city. If it had a wider range of food, I would give it a 4.5.

Showstopper: Authentic food and warm service

Overall grade: A

The most authentic Korean I have had in wellington, absolutely delicious, fast and cheap. The service here is always great. I recommend the squid if you like spicy food, or bulgogi if you want something sweeter. The side dishes are lovely, especially sesame mung bean sprouts.

I was craving Korean one night so I decided to go to Korean Country House on Manners. I ordered bibimbap which is one of my favourite Korean dishes. It was okay but I felt like the serving was tiny. I also was not a fan of their side dishes.

I was taken here by my Korean friend and was told this one is best in town. We ordered most of the dishes as we were a big group and everything was delicious. Price is good, only down side is they close quite early.
I would definitely recommend this place if you want some authentic Korean food.

I went there for lunch because my office is just next to the restaurant.

Disappointing food quality and poor service quality. I am not going back.

By far the best Korean restaurant in town. Authentic taste with no msg and you feel great afterwards, unlike other places where the after taste stays all night. Some may find the flavor a bit light (as they dont use msg or heavy flavorings), but for those who like a light healthy dish with balanced taste, then this place is for you.

Ho hum to say the least. Visited this place with my colleagues as a team lunch, who rated it quite high. But then he is no foodie.

I must have walked past this place so many times without stopping to look at the menu, and there must be a reason for this.

I ordered this spicy pork dish based on the recommendation from the waitress who informed me that this is fairly spicy. I personally did not find the dish spicy at all. It lacked the oomph that I was seeking.

I have had better Korean food elsewhere.

Please visit my website for an indepth review.

Great food, very tasty, well presented, very good value. Basic sort of set up but very nice atmosphere and efficient service. Good range for vegetarians. Best Bulgogi in Wellington!

I reckon this is the best Korean in town. This place is very small and tucked in the mall. Therefore it is hard to find it. However for people who like Korean, this place is everyone's favourite. Great food and reasonable price! Totally recommend it.

Korean Country House is a lovely restaurant with a homely atmosphere, great service, and fantastic food in decent sized portions. The owners are Korean and add a real authenticity and big smile to the experience. We've been to all the Korean restaurants in Wellington and this place is by far the best. Recommend Bulgogi or Chicken Bokkum.

I've been here a few times. I 'd recommend the jae-yuk(spicy pork) and I've heard from my friends that the bibimbap is good too.The seafood stew isn't that good as I find it too lightly seasoned. The meals here are fairly priced and the restaurant is rather clean.
