Review Rubia Express - Wellington

I got some great counter food a while back and always intended to come in for breakfast. A recent visit to the hospital provided the opportunity and I was not disappointed at all. The breakfast was perfect and at a great price, great coffee and amazing service from the team. A good balance of menu and counter food and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Ill definitely be back for more.

Such an inspiring location that the experience disappoints a little. Food looks great (tho we never had any this time). Coffee was good but not great. Service good, but lose a point for not adding the sugar as ordered. Worth the visit though. Thanks.

A small place that exudes coziness and warmth, and I can't help but share my love for it. This cafe has become a go-to spot for me, especially on Sunday mornings when I crave a comforting start to the day. It's the kind of place where you can comfortably spend hours lost in a book or simply enjoying your drink. And speaking of drinks, their Chai Latte with coconut milk is an absolute delight! It's evident that the baristas here take their craft seriously, as they've managed to create a Chai Latte that perfectly matches my preferences. The chai is rich and fragant, and the balance of spices is just right. I can confidently say that it's one of the best Chai Lattes I've had in Wellington. Apart from their Chai Latte, their menu offers a decent selection of pastries and light breakfast options, perfect for a relaxed Sunday morning. The staff is friendly and attentive, which enhances the overall experience. Whether you're a solo visitor seeking solitude or meeting up with friends for a laid-back catch-up session, this place caters to all with its cozy and intimate setting. In conclusion, if you're looking for a small cafe to spend a peaceful Sunday morning, this place is an absolute must-visit.

Cafe is a nice cozy place in Newtown. Very disappointed with the food. The nachos is nothing much apart from beans & nacho chips- Vegetarian nachos, chicken pieces & nachos with 🥑 on the side. The Croissant 🥐 bacon, cheese & egg was really really good. The Belgium & White hot Chocolate was yummy😌 Good chilled out time with my partner & his sister. 🤗🛍️

Ordered long black, latte, eggs benne with bacon and an eggs benne with salmon. The coffees were great, the hollandaise sauce was quite a lot and wasn’t that creamy in flavour and there wasn’t much bacon. The salmon tasted nice and fresh and the poached eggs were done just right. Cafe is in a great building.

The location is cool, inside's not that spacious but cozy. I liked their chips and hot chocolate.

Cute understated corner cafe, perfect for a small bite and coffee. Staff were really sweet and accommodating, my chai was delicious.

Nice food, moist carrot cake, good honey ginger & lemon drink. Hash browns a bit too greasy for me.

Great stop for weekend treats! Make sure you try their scrumptious lemon cake slice!

Such a neat little cafe located on the corner. The coffee is superb! And our breakfast (I had Eggs Benedict) was delicious! A great place to start your day.

Been there twice. Coffee is the main reason I go there. Friendly staff as well.

I ordered Eggs Montreal, The bread had a weird taste to it, and the Salmon looked super Dodgy, the hollandaise tasted like it was factory made or atleast made incorrectly. Despite my ubereats driver taking waaaaay too long the eggs were perfectly cook and the yolks remained a burst of runny goodness. Far to much black pepper on it too. There was also a hair in it.

Coffee and service here are en pointe! Ordered a almond croissant but I mistakenly asked for it heated... I think it was probably heated a bit too long when the corners cooled they were on the dry/hard side. Happy to overlook the accidental over heating due to the pleasant staff and bangin coffee. Recommend this place for your next cuppa joe. ☕

I like this place. It's always clean and the food and coffee is generally good. Was disappointed today when we were the first to arrive for lunch, but the last ones to get our food. Service is always polite and accomodating, but it was slow today and the eggs bene didn't have the hash browns so had to be sent back which made the wait longer.

We had coffee and a muffin.  Staff were fine but they could be a little more friendly. However coffee was very nice so we can give a good score :)

A half-filled wrap for $6.80 is a ‘best seller’? They won’t get another chance to sell it to me. It was tasty, but there are better options nearby

Supremely average- when there are so many great cafes in Newtown I don't see why you'd go here to be honest. And if cheap and cheerful is what you're after there are cheaper bakeries around which will do similar quality food. I got a pot of tea which was small especially for the price (nearly $4) and the fries which slightly had that "old oil" taste. The menu said they came with aioli and tomato sauce but I only got aioli. I think I'll stick to my favourites like Baobab and Black Coffee. I added half a point because the staff seemed friendly enough and the fries were only $4.

I've been meaning to try the food and coffee in this place for quite awhile as I live nearby (moved here recently from Auckland) and finally got the opportunity to today. I love the feel of the place especially the lighting!(hence the photos lol) I came in at just before lunchtime on a weekday so it was fairly quiet. Had soy flat white which had just the right amount of froth, tasted really nice but nothing special. No complaints cause I'm not very fussy with my flat whites. I paired my coffee with a chocolate doughnut which was really good(one of the better ones I've had in awhile as only been eating Dunkin Donuts in Auckland lol) and tasted really nice, soft and chewy and just the right amount of sweetness. It went really well with my coffee. Also, looking out to Riddiford Street and all its interesting characters made for an overall wonderful experience. Would definitely come back here to try some more of the cabinet food which looks lovely. Wednesday morning well spent.

Me and my partner had Eggs Benedict with coffee. Despite them being busy, the staff was really friendly and made my day. Had to wait approximately 5 min for the breakfast to arrive but it was worth waiting for. Thanks Rubia staff for giving me an awesome Sunday breakfast and making such a nice breakfast. Will see you soon, best breakfast in town. 👍👍👍😘👍👍👍

Hands down the Best spinach and feta muffin I've had so far . The green smoothie was yummy too. Very affordable little cafe with great food.

Went there with my wife for breakfast on a weekday (so, not busy). Both got eggs bene, a coffee and a tea. The wife's coffee was 'adequate' she said (but then she'd just had 7 stitches in her leg an hour previously and needed a coffee!). The tea was good (hard to stuff up) but the pot leaked water everywhere and we had to mop the table off. When breakfast arrived I was dissapointed. The eggs were served on a slice of cheap bread with (for some reason) the crusts cut off. The eggs were adequately cooked (a little over done, I like my yolks runny) but they were drowned in at least a cup of Hollandaise sauce... honestly a drizzle is good, but we had to scrape the stuff off!. Underneath lurked a couple of pieces of a dark leather-like stuff... once it might have been bacon but it had spent so long under the warmer it had given up all hope of a better life and expired surrendering all taste and texture but staying as leathery as all hell. I wouldn't eat there again if hordes of zombies were roaming the streets and the only sanctuary was this cafe.

On entry you can spot the worn chairs, tables and stained paint on the walls. The counters and serve over are kinda make shift on tables pushed together. The food was sporadic just on morning tea time and I couldnt spot any gluten free options so just ordered two coffees... the soy milk one was not very nice, the other normal latte was fine. Seemed there was was only person serving, making food and coffee. Probably wouldnt return.
