Place is awesome, always a good spot to go after drinking too much the night before. Food is reasonably priced and of good quality, coffee is consistent as always, staff are always on form. For a cafe in mitre 10 mega this place shits on alot of cafés on Jackson St, Petone.

What has happened - is it under new ownership? Food now is barely palatable. The custard slice was tasteless, the savoury cream cheese muffins terrible, the staff less than enthusiastic

I like this cafe. The food is consistently good and the staff are lovely. The even let us share a breakfast! Not fancy but reasonably priced.

Popped in for lunch during a recent Mitre 10 expedition and was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience.

The service was good. The lady serving was lovely to talk to and it appeared that everyone working there would be as nice.

The cabinet and menu selections were both decent. We ordered from the cabinet and while there was a wee wait for the food to be heated (it was busy at lunch) the food itself was good.

The coffee was above average. It wasn't the worst I have had so that was a real bonus. Not the best, but I enjoyed it.

Definitely happy to go back during my next DIY expedition.

I love coming to this Cafe, It's a bit out of our way and we actually (sometimes) only come here so I can get a Date Scone and a Flat White to take back home again - they make the best Flat Whites (I always get Large in a takeaway cup), they make the BIGGEST most delicious Date Scones on this Planet, as well as HUGE Savoury & Sweet Muffins. Their Carrot Cake is Mediocre, not sure if the one I had was fresh that morning or from the previous day as the Cream Cheese icing was quite hard and fell off the Cake! The Man Child always get a Gooey Caramel Slice, it's not that big, however it's very rich, so the portion size is perfect!
If we're in the mood, we'll come here for Brunch and I can definitely recommend the Chicken Salad and the Lazy Sunday Breakfast and of course I get a Date Scone to take away with me :)
The Staff are smiley, pleasant and efficient. The food prices are very good, not over-priced and you definitely get your moneys worth of food here, you won't leave feeling hungry, at all!

We visited last weekend for the first time and will definitely be back!
The good score is for the food - fantastic. So fresh, delicious and well portioned. We did not expect much being in Mitre 10, but it was truly very nice.
The downside is the noise and it's very busy. If you can wait, and tolerate the noise kids enjoying the playground, then go for it, as the food is worth it.

Come here whenever we stop at mitre 10 as they sometimes do gluten free muffins (the white choc raspberry is delicious). Coffee is decent, and is probably the best hardware store café coffee I've had.

Extremely disappointed after eating here today.
The size of the :Lazy Sunday has shrunk since our last visit.
The meals were warm certainly not hot as you would expect.
I believe the meals were microwaved rather than being cooked fresh.
This used to be a delicious cafe but not any more.
My husband and I shall not be back again. It was a waste of $46.
:(

First thing we noticed was the massive selection of delicious looking sweet and savoury treats in the well presented cabinet. My ham ficelle was really nice and my brother enjoyed his chicken sammy in turkish bread. His caramel slice and mum's date scone were both ok as were our coffees. The cafe itself was nice and spacious with a good number of patrons. Handy for spending a bit of time in the garden centre.

We, 2 kiwis and an overseas visitor, went to the cafe for lunch. We paid for three orders. One meal was delivered with a dirty knife. The second meal arrived a couple of minutes later with a dirty fork. The third meal didn't arrive. After waiting some 10 minutes more I had to go and ask. It had been overlooked. Our visitor ordered a chicken roti with salad. The wrap was too hard to cut with knife and fork. Our friend picked it up to bite it but found that impossible too. She has plenty of strength! She ate the contents. On complaining, the crust was taken to the kitchen where, we were told, the manager said that is how they are supposed to be. He had apparently eaten one for lunch himself and said there was nothing wrong with it. No apology. Very poor impression.

Upon heading into Wgtn we decided to call in Mitre 10 Mega for breakfast. We ordered French Brioche and said we wanted to share this meal having half each with a coffee order as well and paid $14.00.Looking forward to this breakfast was exciting as have had this at Mitre 10 Mega in Upper Hutt and thoroughly enjoyed it. What we received was outrageous! It was literally half a piece of toast with burnt bacon and shrivelled banana and no cream whatsoever! The presentation speaks for itself.
These people need to take a leaf from Upper Hutt Mitre 10 Mega Café as they have an exceptional menu that is appetising as the staff are very professional.

Lunched here today with 2 other adults and 3 kids. Mega was pretty busy being the lead-up to Xmas and Cafe did have a line forming out of cafe which did worry me at first, however delivery to tables and ordering was Fast.
All the food looks tasty in the chilled cabinet, I had Eggs Benidict w/ bacon & the hollandaise sauce was the best I have ever tasted!!

My Dad, who owns and runs a very successful restaurant in Coolangatta Beach 'Bella Kai' said all the food on offer in cabinet was worthy of his palate, he chose the smoked chicken roll and no complaints, My wife had the bagel, again no complaints. Kids all had Pizza which disappeared leaving clean plates washed down with Lollie cake.

If my mocca had have been hotter and bacon cooked more evenly would have been 5 stars easy.

Nice work..

We had a mid-week lunch at Espresso Garden Cafe. I used to frequently pick up coffee and a bite to eat while we were shopping at Mitre 10 Mega in the past but agree with other reviewers that the standard has slipped in recent times. Several tables had dirty dishes left of them so we chose one of the few clean, empty tables available. It wasn't easy finding a clean water glass, either. I've noticed the price of counter food has gone up significantly over time, perhaps matching the prices charged in other Petone cafes but the general standard of food here is pretty average. I had a toasted ham, cheese and tomato ficelle which was nice and my partner had a breakfast bagel. The triple chocolate brownie was a bit dry but whipped cream helped with that. The coffee was fine, albeit spilled over my saucer. Overall, I would grab a quick coffee here when shopping at Mitre 10 in future but this is not a cafe I would make a special trip to visit.
