Review Mughlai Mercury - Wellington

Jack
I've only recently looked at the reviews and have to say I'm surprised. Of the 5 times I've ordered, I have noted nothing except incredible quality and punctuality. The best onion bhaji ever. The peshwari naan is filling and balanced. 5 stars, for all 5 orders.

I’ve been meaning to post on here but I keep leaving them 5 stars on Uber eats. Honestly these guys come through on a late night! I’ve ordered quite a bit after a hard night on the town or even after a few cheeky cones & they never fail to disappoint. Highly recommend! Flavourful, tasty & perfect amount of spice! Thanks Team. Just wanted to share my appreciation.

MUGHLAI <3 We absolutely LOVE this place, is one of our new favorites, Saw this place in the newspaper so we decided to give it a try. A bit of a walk from the city but an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to walk for their food. The food there is SO Good, One of theee best establishments in the wellington regions. We are huge fans of Indian and we have found one of our new favorites. Went in a week ago, the waiter happily seated us, showed us the menu. We let him decide, 'Arza' Told us his favorite was the Kadai, It is now our favorite. The curry came out Hot and Spicy which tasted so good. The Flavors were rushing through our mouths. The Butter Chicken was also one of the best we have ever tried. It was sweet but at the same time gave us a hint of Masalas and spices, not like the tomato puree based ones the other establishments in wellington serve. The entree came out nice and sizzling on the platter, The Chicken tikka was just WOW! the spices were perfect and the small bite size pieces were easy to eat. The Samosas were out of this world and were perfectly sized. We ordered the Cheese kulcha upon the Waiter's recommendation and we were left wondering why we hadn't dined here before, the Naan was perfect and we enjoyed the meal. Their Board mentioned the Beers were 'as cold, as our ex's heart', The beers came out chilled and cold, Kingfisher and tiger was a perfect addition to the meal. The Prices were nice and even in comparison to the other establishments in Wellington who often overcharge us. We had a Lovely time, and we will be back really soon for the 'Kadai'. We will be recommending to our friends and we really appreciate the Fast and Easy Service given to us. very Polite waiter and easy to deal with. We Will be Back with our friends after Christmas,BOOK OUR TABLE! :) Thanks

The restaurant has a lot of dishes I’ve never seen in any other Indian restaurant in New Zealand before, which is really intriguing. Got the Balti chicken and it was not only tasty but visually stunning. Great variety of naans as well.

Mango beef, new taste but I enjoyed it.

We were really late to be at the restaurant. The owner was so friendly that he called back the chef. Food was really good. They served well and things were tidy around. You may give a try once at Wellington. Happy eating.

Ordered online for pickup, was ready on time and friendly staff. Had the butter chicken, naan, drink combo was great value for money! Would eat here again ☺️

Good food, A little expensive for Indian dishes. Although the same problem, cream in food. I do not understand why that is done, north Indian food tastes totally different in NZ, probably adjusted to gora taste.

I ordered a Butter Chicken, and it honestly was just a vaguely orange coloured soup. It tasted like someone had poured a cup of water into my curry. Would never ever spend any money here again. Couldn't believe that they would have the audacity to put that in front of me in exchange for money.

We order curry all the time and like to try different places. We have tried Muglai MerCury once before and were underwhelmed, but we decided to try again. We received an order last night through Deliver Easy, which we were very disappointed with. Following this, all types of communication to the restaurant have failed, no answer on the phone, no email address, and the online form does not work. Resulting in this public review in a bid to get the message across.<br/><br/>We ordered a butter chicken combo for 2, a beef chicken with a garlic naan, poppadoms and onion bhaji.<br/><br/>Firstly, we ordered a 1.5L of Coke, but received Sprite instead without being consulted. The onion bhaji was literally swimming in oil, and the batter was non existent, it was inedible and extremely disappointing. The photo attached is even after it's been sitting on 3 different paper towels that were left soaked through. The poppadoms were weirdly overcooked in some places and under cooked in other places, again, so caked in oil that they were soggy and inedible. The butter chicken itself arrived stone cold and strange after taste that i can only compare to that of dish washing liquid. The only thing we have been able to eat is the garlic Naan bread. Hardly a meal. Our total bill came to $78.40. What an unfortunate waste of hard earned money.<br/><br/>The most unfortunate part is we tried to contact the restaurant to allow them to rectify before writing a public review, with no luck.<br/> Sad.

Went here years ago and discovered the WORST Indian food ever eaten. Fast forward 7 years and we went back as had forgotten about the last experience. Once again had the WORST India takeaways. No flavour, creamy badness. Threw most of it out. <br/><br/><br/>

Ordered takeaways and disappointed! Korma and Sag were both flavorless, bland and sad. Also the rice was regular long grain not basmati. Will never go again.

Brought a takeaway butter chicken combo for $15.50 + $1.00 for garlic naan. The sauce was horrible and had no flavour whatsoever however, the actual pieces of chicken were nice. The garlic naan was great and was the only redeeming quality. I am a butter chicken lover and it is a great priced combo but I wouldn't purchase from this place again.

Beautiful food - spice and flavour perfect. I had the mushroom and broccoli korma, with a spinach naan. (Heaps of vegetarian options!!! Awesome!!) Would definitely recommend. Good things take time - the meal did take a while to come out, however they compensated with free popadoms. Was nice to have this acknowledged! Service was also great. Cheers!!

<br/>We got takeaway (navratan korma and chana pindhi) but were sad to find the meal had no flavor and the naan was flat like a bad tortilla. We ended up eating leftovers and not finishing the meal. The place was cute and I was hoping it could become a regular spot but alas we won't be back.

Absolutely disappointed by the ambience and food. Their sink / hand wash was also their kitchen sink. Kitchen was dirty and food was not good. Had ordered Hyderabadi Mutton Biryani but it did not taste like biryani at all. Ordered curd rice to finish off but were given sweetened curd with rice although we had ordered for plain curd. Total rip of price wise. Would not go to this place again...

My new favourite Indian food take out place. The food is cooked with love and you can taste it. You know it's good when it reminds you of home.

We had just moved to the neighbourhood and thought we'd try out the local Indian restaurant. It did not disappoint! We had a very flavoursome, creamy beef pasanda and the meat was reasonably tender. The staff were very friendly. Looking forward to going back to try more dishes!

Ordered Takeaways last night and they were absolutely FANTASTIC!
Had to leave a review. This is a small indian restaurant downtown on Willis St next to the Italian Pizza place. Now this place has been open for ages yet its just done the restaurant upgrade. Seeing the place headed in and ordered some takeaways, the regular white person meal, Chicken tikka Masala and Butter Chicken, I was absolutely blown away. Never have I tasted anything quite like it, the flavours were running through my mouth. Either this place is Magical or the other places are scamming you. Definitely Worth the money I paid and will most definitely return. <br/>Good Work Guys

I first discovered this place when I first moved to the area about eight or nine years ago. I've gone there about once a week (sometimes multiple times a week) ever since.<br/>Fantastic friendly service. Exceptional Dahl Makani. <br/>Really strongly recommend.

In our travels today visiting restaurants, we popped into this little restaurant. I visited this venue 3 years ago and it was a small takeaway serving good wholesome meals. WOW – what a change! A lovely little restaurant, very quaint, pleasant ambience, great service and Yes a Fantastic Meal. This Restaurant specialises in Biryani. I had the Lamb Biryani, accompanied with a Garlic Naan and yoghurt. The Lamb was so tender and moist and the Chefs combination of rice, spices and mixed fruit and nuts is “I must say” a pleasant surprise. Compared to many Biryanis, being bland and lacking in flavour, this is the Best Biryani I have had in years. We also had a Lamb Saagwala which was flavoursome and tasty. A big compliment to the Chef’s and I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy an excellent meal in Wellington.

TLDR; tasty takeaway if you're in the neighbourhood<br/><br/>'Twas a rainy Wellington night when we decided to try Mughlai Mer Curries. Partly out of convenience (it's three minutes from our house) and partly out of curiosity. And I'm so glad we did! <br/><br/>We got a chicken tikka masala, half tandoori chicken, onion bhaji and garlic naans. The price was about $45 - standard for our typical order. However, the quality was above average. The rice had a really nice flavour and the naans were HUGE. Our chicken masala had chunky pieces of capsicum and onion through it. It was very flavoursome. The tandoori chicken came with a nice little salad on the bottom. <br/><br/>I can't speak of the dining in experience because we got takeaway. However the guy who took our order and gave us our meal was very friendly and polite. <br/><br/>Doesn't quite overtake Indus as my number one Indian restaurant but I'll definitely revisit!<br/>

my fiance and I decided to this resturaunt 1 week before our wedding and really enjoyed our experience. The food was fantastic, the service was attentive without being overbearing and the restaurant setting was intimate so we decided to get mughlai to catering for our wedding.I would gladly go back for the food and service because it has the best butter chicken in the world.

The butter chicken is so tasty. I get that every time. I also like the various Lamb dishes they have too (my flatmate loves them). The food is prepared relatively fast and the customer service is always great.

Came in on Saturday with a few friends and the food was just stupendous. We enjoyed every single bit. The Service was friendly and very welcoming. Would highly recommend the Mumtaz Chicken, its fantastic. Will be Back.

Ordered a delivery last night, food arrived promptly on time and was nice and hot. The food was extraordinary when we compared it to other Indian restaurants around wellington. We really enjoyed the butter chicken, and the thing we loved the most is the vindaloo. For the first time we got to try it as all the other places offer the vindaloo very spicy but Mughlai offered it mild so we could actually taste it. Will order again for sure. Highly recommended.

Ordered a wonderful meal last night. It was delivered promptly and oh so delicious! Each dish was very distinct - packed with a lot of flavours, veges really evident. The paneer tikka masala was to die for! Dishes were mild as we ordered, and just really exceptional. My Indian partner loved it :) The balti, butter chicken and pakhoras were hits too. Really excellent. I'm so glad we've got lots of leftovers! Will be ordering quite often I am sure!

The service and setting is absolutely amazing, but the butter chicken is not on par with other establishments in Wellington. They have great deals, though.

“Hidden treasure”……….that’s what I think about this place. I agree that the staff are fantastic and friendly. Guys, If you truly want to pamper your tastebuds this is the place to be. Mughlai (The Real Magic of Authentic Indian cuisine) truly stands by its name. We went for a quick lunch but were truly overwhelmed with the service and food it had to offer. We felt the difference between this one and the other Indian restaurants in town. Will surely will visit more than once. Kudos to the Chefs and the management. A great dining experience. I strongly recommend “Butter chicken” and Laccha Paratha”… n healthy Mango Lassi... would highly reccomend!!
