Review The Churchill - Wellington

From one chef to another the food was good for what was available on the menu. I loved the blue cheese sauce. The cheeseburger springrolls were different but actually quite yummy. The staff were friendly and efficient. Didnt have to wait long for meals.

Superb British Pub - don't expect more than a warm, cozy public house environment complete with good pub fare. Food on offer varies from classic Cornish pasties to Millennial-friendly avocado on sourdough. Beer choices include a house lager and ale, while local breweries act as guests, like Fortune Favours and Red Reef. So many wine options, beer drinkers are normally a little taken aback. Free venue hire; hot cider, mulled wine and buttered rum on Tuesdays; and, Pies and Pints on Thursdays. Can't get better. A colour interior is very Best of British kitsch, but this adds to the positive atmosphere and good vibes. Go here after work for a pint and enjoy house mates or colleagues at a good stop on the way home.

Great food and great staff! Loved the decor downstairs! Weirdly, the upstairs seemed like a whole other restaurant, and the vibe of the downstairs was much more laid-back and "pub-like," which is exactly what you would expect from the name.

Really good food.. Staff were really friendly. Quite an amazing difference between downstairs and upstairs.. Classic pub feel downstairs and modern vibe upstairs something for everyone (I see a few people comment negatively on that.. I would not change it for the world you can't beat a classic pub vibe)...

My favorite drinking spot in Wellington. A good selection of New Zealand and British beers. The food was pretty good as well...plus free and fast wi-fi which was a life saver.

Nice environment, feels flash but also not too fancy, so a nice place for a drink or two after work. Had an issue with them pouring us a drink incorrectly but they were happy to supply us with a correct drink on the house for the trouble. Excellent service. Gets a tad bit crowded on Friday, but again this is something to expect at these time. Quick and satisfying pub food too which is a welcome sight. All in all, a solid place for drinks and a feed after work.

Booked an area for a function at The Churchill and couldn't be happier! The platters were amazing ... high quality and plenty! And the service was beyond impressive! A number of us stayed for dinner after and the food and service were great again ! Kim who is one of the managers there deserves 100 thank yous for the service she and her team provided. Can't wait for another excuse to have a function there! :)

Good replica of an English pub. Good menu and drinks selection

We had a great lunch here in early Jan 2020. Excellent service from Kelvin, Lola and their lunch crew colleagues. This restaurant has a good range of food and drinks for lunch, a nice upstairs location overlooking the trees in Lambton Quay and is very “kid friendly”. Highly recommended.

First time visit. Staff very engaging. Wide selection of beer. Imaginative decor. Steak best every. Chicken nibble bar snacks just enough. Gotta be right up there as a favorite pub and I don't even know the licensee.

Don’t even bother going here if you’re a walk-in unless you want to be treated like a second class citizen. We went there at 4pm on a Friday afternoon and, despite the top floor being almost deserted when we arrived, it was difficult finding anywhere to sit as literally of all the empty tables were reserved. We sat at one that was reserved from 6pm onwards as we didn’t intend to stay past 5.30. Shortly before 5pm, however, we were unceremoniously booted off our table because the other party had arrived early, and apparently took precedence even though their booking was more than one hour away. We were left with nowhere to sit (or even stand) as by now the bar was crammed. So we left. When raising my concerns in an email to the Churchhill, they offered me a voucher and accused me of lying in the same breath – bizarrely claiming that we hadn’t been booted off until 5.48pm (by which point I was on a train after having briefly taken refuge in a different bar and purchased groceries). When I responded asserting that their claim was wrong, they simply didn’t reply. Radio silence. Which is the equivalent of ‘eff off and go away”. There is something seriously contemptuous about their customer service ethic. There are plenty of welcoming bars in Wellington and they are not one of them.

The pub was great but upstairs was disappointing, some of the staff were good but some need a bit of training. My meal wasn't very nice I had the bangers and mash; my sausages weren't cooked through and everything else on the plate was odd tasting. Hopefully things will improve for the place.

Tops, we had the warm chicken salad, which was outstanding, the Red IPA also really good, both bar staff and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, the place has a good vibe and great location, we'll visit again.

Our waitress lovely but the place so dis organised . Had dinner booked , cutlery delivered seperatly forks first then knives . Got wrong wine had send back, some food not hot . Paying was a mission sorting bill out . So noisy with the band trying watch the rugby . Left 8 pm couldn't talk music so loud . Oh well been there done that 14 of us said won't return

Amazing food!! if you like crunchy chips n fish then best to come here, soo good me and my mate will be back and the drinks n menu looks good and very tidy insde the pub too, love the colours. If you need a break from work or the week go down with mates and enjoy yourself to a meal or a drink. The staff are awesome too and keen to chat and tell you what is what if you needed to ask anything.

It was a busy evening before the rugby, waitress spilt aioli all over my friend, offered to give us a free drink for the inconvenience. Never got it. Went to ask if it was coming, said would bring it over to us. Never got it. Seriously what does a couple of drinks cost? Definitely not a dry cleaning bill.

Fish pie? All milk glop and bit of potato and a fish merely swam through it - and $21. Nice wine and great staff.

Very friendly welcome, helpful staff who noted my elderly mum walking with a stick, offered 2nd floor restaurant as having better seating. Great Fish n Chips. Great wine list.

Have eaten at The Churchill on a couple of occasions now. Great food, friendly staff, all English music, good atmosphere. Brilliant.

Was at Churchill's on Thursday for a couple of drinks after work in the Dungeon. Loved the new fit out and they had a piano in the corner with fantastic live music - played all the classics. Loved the atmosphere. Planning to take a group again soon. Will be a great place for the Lions fans when they visit. Well done!

Went here for lunch today. Poor service, my ginger beer was flat and so was my friends coke. The burger was served missing the onion rings. The watercress on my steak sandwich was extremely wilted and had think storks so not really palatable and the chips on both dishes were soggy. Won't ever go back here again.

We took my father who was visiting from Auckland to The Churchill last night. Sadly this is the worst meal I have had in Wellington for quite a few years. The batter for the fish and chips was greasy and stodgy. Dad thought bangers and mash was not good either. Service was bad - forgot our drinks
Rob McGregor
Great place for drinks after work, good range of beer & wine with exceptional service- well done The Churchill

Pity they advertise on the their website Happy Hours Monday to Friday 4-6pm and yet this week they decide it won't apply so to make more money when the Lions fans are here and screw the locals too. When after the Lions fans have gone so have some of their regulars.

Lovely welcoming and friendly staff. Cleared away finished plates, great overall service. Food was lovely and promptly delivered. I'll be back

Excellent food, great beer, awesome table service. Only slight complaint is the layout near the bar, very difficult to get around when busy. Maybe turn large tables 90 degrees to allow movement across the area as well as around the outside? Otherwise loved it!

I absolutely love this place. Just the atmosphere and environment is somewhere you want to be at. Food was fantastic and at a very good price. I will be back!

Best place in the city to grab a drink! Three levels to choose from to suit your mood. Great staff and some decent brews on tap. Love the wine list, cocktails are awesome and the small plates menu. Definitely recommend!

Located on Lambton Quay close to my work I have been here twice now, and want to go again! First time I had a few sides - the garlic bread and fries with gravy. It was amazing if you like that sort of thing. Next visit I had the soup (even though it was a hot day I couldn't help myself). Comes with some butter and ciabatta, and it was AMAZING. Highly recommend. The restaurant on level 1 is great. You can even go and sit outside in the sun on the balcony if you wish. Great atmosphere, lovely staff. Will be back!!!
