Review Tk Bbq Buffet - Wellington

Emma Garbutt
Me and my partner really like this place, the atmosphere is really nice and warm, the servers leave you alone until you ask for assistance with your BBQ so you can have a conversation. The quality of the food is really nice, the meat is always marinated well and the buffet options always change. It's not 5 star quality food- but it's good, yummy and filling food. If you're after a really good friendly night with good eats and good friends then this is the place to go. $45 is reasonable for the amount of food on offer, you'll always leave full and satisfied. It's a really nice place for a date night!!

Excellent restaurant, only KBBQ place in Wellington! Have been multiple times. Food is delicious, self-service and all-you-can-eat with a good variety of options. Courteous and helpful staff. The karaoke rooms are bookable and always a fun time too. Would highly recommend!

Had a fantastic meal with friends here, the buffet was great. Apart from the bbq meats, we really enjoyed the hot soups and fried chicken as well. The staff were very attentive and we had great service even though they were extremely busy. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, highly recommended.

Went here for date night, atmosphere bright and cheerful, warm welcome where we got shown what to do (had never had Korean bbq before but was very excited) and then seated. Fresh beautiful food - tasty soups, good selection of meat, fresh korean style veg and salads. Fully recommend and we'll be back ❤

I come for the korean bbq buffet. The food price is little bit pricey and not many options for the meat. But over all the taste is good and the drink was fanstastic. If you are looking for place to drink and eat korean bbq also karaoke, don't hasitate to come to this restaurant.

Our stop in Wellington was quick and brief, however, we knew we were hungry. What better way to satisfy that hunger with All You Can Eat, Korean BBQ? This place is legit. When we saw it pop up on yelp we weren't sure if it was really open since it only had 1 review and no pictures. But since the review was pretty fresh we took a chance. When we arrived near by we parked and started following the GPS. It is located in the back of a courtyard area. It's a bit hidden but there a few signs pointing. Also, follow the meat fragrance! When you get inside, they had aluminum foil for you to put on top of the grill. First time, I had seen this technique used, but it makes sense. Instead of replacing the grill, they just replace pieces of aluminum foil. They clean it at the end but at least throughout the meal you don't have to get a new grill. All of their meats was delicious, but our favorite was the pork belly. They also had a wide variety of sides and other traditional dishes on the buffet line. I thoroughly enjoyed their korean fried chicken. They only brought out small batches so when they refilled you had to jump on it. Value was definitely there.

This place can be good, or it can be pretty average. Depending on when you go. The buffet is limited but it's always a good time cooking your own meats on the grills right in front of you. Not sure there are any other Korean BBQ Buffet places around so this might be the place to go if you want all-you-can-eat. update 2018: was definetly good, the fried chicken is also an excellent side option to the regular meats, which are nicely marinated.

TK is our go to for karaoke, so much fun! Thanks for putting up with us Eddie!

Karaoke here is awesome. Lots of songs (with English songs to choose from as well). Staff are great. I cannot comment on the food as I did not eat here, just went for Karaoke. The only issue I have is their Soju drinks are ridiculously priced. A little bottle is about $18, whilst you can buy it at a liquor store for $8. I don't mind paying markup, like I wouldn't mind $12-14, but $18 is ridiculous.

Most recommended Korean restaurant. They don’t have much options but they have the basic food that you are craving to eat. They always refill the food trays so help yourself and enjoy their cuisine. The place is clean and in great location. P.S. Always full on Fridays and Saturdays so better have your table reservations hours before you come.

First time here, and did not know the procedures, we were seated the second we walked in after being asked how many?
Then sat wandering what to do? 5 mins past and went up to the bar and asked what are we supposed ? He apologised and took us around the buffet explaining everything g to us, I tried Suku for the first time and I liked it, the food and whole place I really enjoyed it. So
Did my husband and we will go back

Came here for the ayce bbq. Side dish options were subpar, and the bbq meat selection was limited. Overall though, it is still a very good kbbq place. We had mostly the pork belly and brisket. Both of which went very well with the sesame oil. Will definitely be back.

I had the all you can eat buffet yesterday. Food is great, not much choices for the meat though. We pretty much only had the pork belly. Not complaining though as it was superb. I do feel a little bad for the waiter though. He seemed to be the only one working there managing tables, refilling buffet items, and manning the cashier. There were 2 others on duty but I saw them having beer in the corner and not doing anything. No complaints on the service though since the lone guy seemed to be doing a great job considering the circumstances. Would come back if I am ever in town again
TK has been around for many years with recent owners changing the style and menu.

The current set up offers low powered camp BBQs that take a while to get up to heat, especially with the type of hotplate and tin foil they use here. The BBQ menu range is very limited compared to other BBQ restaurant’s I have been to, but the side dishes and flavours are good.

The set price is a little high for the range on offer, but overall a good place for a meal.

This place is satisfying and tasty. You get what you pay for for the $28 buffet and the meat is nice enough. I like the sweet and sour pork and fries, they are quite yummy. Will come here often when ravenously hungry.

A group of 8 of us recently visited this restaurant. What a mistake that was. Apart from the fact that there are signs absolutely everywhere on how much they are going to charge you extra if you do this, or do that, or do the other, sitting at a cramped table with two poxy and revolting looking camping-type grill burners to cook my own meal was just a joke. The food was average at best and the service way less than average. But the best was yet to come. When we were leaving, I paid last for my wife and I and what was left to pay was what we thought would be left. However, they over-charged me by $4 on the “corkage”, making my totoal bill $68 instead of $64. I let that slide as I just wanted to leave. I paid cash but they didn’t offer a receipt. The 8 of us were standing outside having a chat about which bar we were going on to when they came running out saying someone hadn’t paid for two buffets and one corkage. That was mine and my wife’s. We all marched back in and had a huge argument with the owners. I vocally explained how I handed over $70 and got $2 in change (showing them the $2 coin) and being ripped off by $4 and now you push your luck and want to rip me off a second time. Then it dawned on me – chances are the person who took my payment pocketed the money. No wonder she didn’t give me a receipt! Unless you want to be treated like dirt topped off by being ripped off – then DON’T GO THERE. EVER!!!

It's criminal that there aren't more Korean BBQ joints in Wellington. Given this, it's mind boggling that the Taste of Korea has so many negative reviews.

I think reviewers need to understand the proper culture of Korean BBQ. It's essentially self-service BBQ where the autonomy is given to the diners. This means that it's up to the diners to be creative and decide how to eat their dishes.
Criterion to determine a successful Korean BBQ are as follows:

- The cut, freshness and variety of meat.
- Authenticity and taste of its side dishes.
- How the Korean Fried chicken is.

In terms of the variety of meat, TK is very limited, but I found the meat to be quite fresh and the cut of meat to be quite good in terms of the pork and bulgogi.

The side dishes are awesome-- they have deokbokki, pretty good kimchi and raddish.

During my time in Wellingon I have often searched fruitlessly around for authentic Korean fried chicken. Even now, as I'm working in Auckland, I find it difficult to find a place that serves that crispy unique taste. TK delivers with excellent fried chicken that is fried to be supremely crunchy, with a dash of sweet chilli spice and tender cooked chicken inside.

Showstopper; Best Korean fried chicken hands down in Wellington. Also, the cut of pork is excellent.

Overall Grade: A

My friend like Korean barbecue very much, but there are not many good restaurants in wellington. I doubt whether I should go to this restaurant because of the low rating in zomato. However, I feel the food here is very delicious, and the korean girl and boy stuff are very helpful and nice, they help us to change seat several times after we requested. My wife and I like the Roast streaky pork very much. They replenish the food quickly after it is not enough, so we eat a lot.
Besides the meat, the fried pumpkin is also my favorite, this is my first time to eat this, my friends also agree with me on this.

After the meal we went to the South Asian Night Market in the waterfront, it's a lovely night.

I went here 5 years ago and didn’t have a good experience. 5 years later nothing much had changed.

1. The prices on the website are not the same as the prices on the menu in store. Would be good if they could update this.
2. It’s a bit confronting seeing posters saying they’ll charge you $30 if you have any leftovers.
3. The menu food was bland and too expensive for what you get.

I’m not giving a bad review out of pettiness but I really am disappointed and felt so uncomfortable in there.

Went here for a friends birthday BYO and probably wouldn't go back. So many other nice places in WGTN to spend my money!

Food was over priced, service was pretty good but food was average.

Karaoke is quite expensive, though we still did it but they don't even have the proper music videos, just pictures of mountains etc with the lyrics written on the screen, that very fun at all!

This is the worst Korean restaurant I have ever been to! Food is over priced and not really tasty. The owner/manager of the restaurant can hardly communicates in English. Their customer service was poor. Both of the microphones in our karaoke room are not working at all, they replied: ” there is nothing we can do about it!”
We will never go back there again for sure.

Sick of doing the same old a group of us decided to go somewhere new! We weren’t sure what to expect but we all had a fantastic time. We were the only people there and loved the old school Karaoke music in the background. I ordered the BBQ chicken and it was barbequed on a grill on the table. Very little smoke and delicious aromas really built up our appetite! Karaoke was surprisingly fun, the room was kitted out in glow in the dark neon colours and with the lights down low we all let lose a little.
Perfect for a BYO catch up with a difference B++

The Taste of Korea gave the impression that Korea is a pretty bland and dry country. This was my first time eating Korean, and I honestly was expecting a whole lot better for the price I was paying. The restaurants main attractions are the fact it offers karaoke and the opportunity to BQQ your own food, it’s pretty tacky. Usually though with Asian cuisine, the more nick-nacs and flashing signs the restaurant has, the better the food is. This was not the case at all with the Taste of Korea though, I felt a bit robbed of my money at the end of the night, with no satisfaction from my meal what-so-ever.

The $23 set main allows you to BBQ your own Beef, Chicken and Pork. That pretty much sums up the meal; the meat is not seasoned and is dull, characterless and shrivelled. For what seems like an eternity before you even get this though, a variety of side dishes are presented to you, accompanied with a bowl of dry, unadorned rice. If you're hungry for your meal these are all long gone before the meat even arrives and starts cooking, so you miss the opportunity to actually mix and match the dishes. The quality of the meat is also pretty meagre. It's stringy and does not entreaty much to the eye.

A rather strong smell is given off by the coal that is used to heat the BQQs also. This clogs up every inch of the restaurant and also sticks to your clothes and hair for the remainder of the night, not exactly an alluring smell. Better ventilation of the place would probably do the ambience of the restaurant a heap of good. The wait staff was reasonably attentive, but seemed to focus all their attention on one table for extended periods of time; understandable as the process of waiting and cooking the groups’ meals requires the given attention, but it meant long gaps in the order taking process.

Overall, only go here if you wish to sing karaoke while drunk, it’s basically the only good that can come from an evening at the Taste of Korea. What’s certain that anything of actual taste won’t.

First time I went there, I ordered kimchi jiggye... I've spent a LOT of time in korea and didn't appreciate the TOMATO taste in a dish, that served IN Korea does NOT have tomato in.... Will try again and post another review....

Went along with a group to this restaurant the food and atmosphere were great. The BBQ option and cooking/boiling the food at the table is fun, and makes for a good group activity.

The only let down for me was the fumes from all the cookers. I'm not sure when the fuel was, but the fumes were a little over powering when the restaurant was full.

We all had too much wine and ended up in one of the Karaoke Rooms!

Dear Toby,
I went to a smashing Korean restaurant the other day called "TASTE OF KOREA RESTAURANT," damn it was tasty! I had some awesome kimchi (Chinese pickled cabbage) and what not, the service was wonderful and i enjoyed every moment i spent there. I had a really comfortable chair and I was as happy as a pig in muck.
I thought everything was perfect till some fat oaf seated near us was constantly passing wind, i was totally disgusted, i could taste it in my mouth then my eyes started to water and everything. Other then that minor inconvenience everything was wonderful and there was real Koreans there. well i hope you enjoy it if you go - HAENG UNUL PIROYO!
