Review The Innkeeper Johnsonville - Wellington

I CANNOT tell you how good this place is!! Everything is perfect. If you looking for a place that feels like home you've found it. Don't walk, run. I got the steak, it was so amazing 👨‍🍳😘. "Chefs kiss". I have never found a better cooked steak. Just had to buy the chef a drink. Nothing better than a great cooked steak. My husband got a beef and bacon burger, pure bliss. My daughter, as fussy as she is loved her hot dogs and chips.

Fantastic staff, amazing service. Great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and know their customers. Food is excellent, with a good choice on the menu. 100% recommended.

This is a great little place off the main road that tends to miss out on a lot of foot traffic. It’s quiet so you can talk and hear your mates, the foods great, the Guinness is a great pour and the staff are friendly. Had dinner there on Saturday night, and I’ll be back!

To the owner(s)... You have a very short (apology) lady that works for you. She is always friendly and an absolute shining STAR!

Let's start with the coffee (or mocha for the coffee addicts). Delicious. Perfect temp and perfect taste. The food was heavenly. Crunchy hashbrowns, perfectly poached eggs, and not too crispy bacon - just how I like it. I ordered the $10 breakfast which looked more like an $18 Auckland breakie, and my wife the $15 eggs Benedict. Add two $4 coffees and you've got yourself a cheap breakie that won't break the bank. Thanks team! We'll be back.

Lovely people and service, came for the quiz night fundraiser for my best friend Clare who’s going to a bowling competition in Sweden and they were amazing hosts! Thank you!

Great pub.. Authentic feeling once you enter.. Great staff.. Didn't order much food.. The one thing management need to do is.. Turn up the cooling into your keg room.. Tap beers were no where near to cold.. Please.. Look into it..

Reasonably priced big delicious pub meals. Cosy on a winter's night. Live rugby on. Not crowded or noisy. Pork belly 9/10 for the lady, bangers and mash 10/10 from the Scotsman cos of the Yorkshire puds. Salted caramel cheesecake for pudding! Happy little place, should've been to sooner.

Pleasant server/bar man very attentive. Service 100%. He advised early they were low on items from kitchen due to the recent rugby match. We had 2x large chicken salads and a cheese burger. All presented nicely and good value. The burger pattie was a little bland (maybe all it needed was salt?) it was juicy though, but the chips were really good.

I overall an OK place to go during the day. They have quiz nights on Thursdays unfortunately this isn't my local but if it was - I reckon I'd pop back in. Has free WiFi too 👍
I have been to this place 3 times in the last month and its known for its “$10 big brekkie”. Its what you expect from a cheap Irish pub with a large gambling room out the back. You get what you pay for and thats about it. Not everything comes out warm or perfect but for $10 thats OK. Today (Mothers Day)I was surprised to see the menu had changed and the ”$10 big brekkie” was now $19.50 with the inclusion of a very minimal amount of cooked but very dry button mushrooms. I had high hopes thinking maybe there has been some improvement to warrant the price increase but as per previous times not everything on the my or my wifes plate was warm and it was very underwhelming. I could tell that they have been trying to make changes with new black table clothes and paprika sprinkled on the rim of every plate (including my 10 year olds kids menu plate) but nothing has really changed. I went onto the “1841” app and found that their “big breakfast” is $12 and they have nothing on their brunch menu over $17. If I had known about the price change prior to sitting down (their website still hasnt been updated) I would have gone 100 metres up the road to 1841 where the food, service and decor is superior.

On the plus side the staff are friendly and helpful. The kids menu is good value but unfortunately the brunch menu is just so overpriced with their new changes that I will not be going back again. In fact I could go to the Wellington city waterfront and get better value. I think they need to research what other pub/bar in johnsonville is charging and the quality of food as the differences are black and white.

Our group of 6 friends dined at this restaurant last night. On arriving, no-one greeted us or escorted to our reserved table. It's as if no one really cared less.

Eventually we found our table and an kinda unfriendly waiter came over and took our orders. We ordered three entrees and six main courses.
The potato wedges entree was very nice, however we couldn't say the same for the chicken and squid entrĂŠes, which were so undersized that they could almost be termed as a non-event.

Two of the group including myself ordered the Scotch fillet steak mains. We both especially requested our steaks to be cooked medium-rare but what came out was really so much well-done that it felt like we cutting into an old piece of leather.
When we mentioned it to the unfriendly waiter, he just more or less shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
Our four other friends however felt their mains were quite nice and passable. Their only real complaint being their mixed vegetables were obviously of the frozen variety, rather than the fresh varieties.

Summing up, because of its inconsistent food quality and its very poor service, I cannot therefore personally recommend the lnnkeepers pub restaurant.
Our favorite pub. Great bar staff and friendly locals. Generous sized meals and good selection of beers. Especially enjoy Friday night raffles and draws, few beers and the Guiness burger for dinner.

Don't walk past this place!! Great food and friendly staff. Good drink selections also.
The food was tasty and huge portions.
The salads were fresh with a unique chilli balsamic dressing. (Amazing)
Definitely worth trying and we will be back.

I was with a cpl of my friends and the Barman that served a customer at 1.15pm on the 29th of October was extremely rude and arrogant! The customer asked for a coffee in a takeaway cup and the Barmen said why? are you leaving now? the customer said no, but would be leaving shortly after he put $2 in the poki. The Barmen replied.... you know it costs me money for those cups and it will be a waste.

I have been a loyal patron here...but after that outburst will no longer spend my money with them....nor will my friends. The barmen of which I wont name in here nees a reality check and learn manners....after all it is us that pays his wages. STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!
It took me a long time before I ventured into the Innkeeper. I'm glad I did. It’s a friendly, popular pub, with honest charm. Everything a good local should be.

The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming. And best of all it is one of the few pubs, and by 'few' I mean pretty much the only pub I've found which offers a decent pint of Guinness.

Today we popped in for a drink and a bite to eat. I was heading for the Guinness tap when I spotted they had Emerson's Bookbinder on tap. Sweet!

We ordered.
* Sausage, egg and chips w/ coleslaw ($12.00)
* Chicken schnitzel burger w/ brie, pepper and apricot salsa and chips ($15.00)
* Emerson’s Bookbinder ($8.00)
* Lindauer fraise 200ml ($9.00)

First up the portions are huge.

Chicken burger:
The burger bun was the size of a small plate. The burger was tasty with the chicken cooked well. They put loads of brie on it, as well as normal cheese. It also came with an apricot and capsicum salsa, nice and chunky. The chips were seasoned nicely too.

Sausage and chips:
The sausages were huge. I wasn't that hungry which is why I ordered this meal, but it was a feed. Plenty of chips and a good amount of coleslaw. The sausages were processed. Not my preferred kind but they were tasty enough. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The chips were a fraction on the cool side but not an issue. I enjoyed the meal.

The food isn't fancy here, but they are not pretending to be. It's pub food. It's basic, honest and done well. We enjoyed it. Considering a sandwich in the CBD can cost you $12, it's good value.

I am looking forward to going back and trying a steak sometime or one of their pies... and of course some of their Guinness!

A solid 3.5
FOOD Wars
Nothing to rave about, but the food was definately ok and edible. It's your average pub food with nothing spectacular. Had the fish and only wish the proportion between the fish and the chips had been better thought of, there was just soo much chips with only 3 pieces of fish - definately not fresh fish. Salad was fresh and with great flavour. $17.00. Dessert was home made apple pie. This was yum, pastry was great and there is definately alot of apple - maybe a bit too much, but it was good. $6.00. Would go here again if other preferred restaurants in the area are fully booked, but wouldn't be my first preference due to my taste and expectations. Would be happy to go around the corner and spend a bit more for better quality. Great service though definately friendly enough and the place has a 'regular/local' feel about it.

So disappointed, i was the first time we went, but 6 months later decided to give it another guy when my family visited. Friendly staff but the food is boring plan basic pub food, that is bland and nothing to rave about. My mother and I had the pork belly and I usually don't complain but it was horrible, the veggies were raw, the pork belly was so fatty and gross and the mash tasted like it was from a packet, i was so sick after and vomited! Partner had the chicken he said was pleasant, but very dry. Will never return!
